I'm sorry fellow Yelpers, I tried with all my heart to love and cherish Sonic just as much as you do, but I can't bring myself to lie. It was gross. I had a grilled cheese which was not particularly tasty. Hashbrowns with cheese which literally had a plastic-looking, melted, Kraft single-esque piece of cheese on them so they all stuck together, disgusting. I tried my hubby's fries, they were cold, mushy and foul. My sister got onion rings lacked any flavor except cold onion. The one redeeming item ordered was the cherry limeade. Fun, but not enough to save this meal. If I order stuff this greasy and bad for me, I want to love it and feel like the calorie expenditure meant something. I'm in the nova area, but FFX county. No sonic close, the closest is Dumfries. I always stop by, when I go to Kings Dominion. The different selection of food and drink is pretty awesome. A lot of stuff I've never thought off. I'm a fan of the coneys, and poppers. Their slush selection is HUGE. I tried the one with the nerds in it, the "Game Changer". The chili-cheese coney was ok, but you get your moneys worth. It reminds me of my childhood as a kid in Texas (they had one in Arlington, TX). Everything there is pretty good, at least everything I tried. Pros - huge selection, and everything is pretty tasty Cons - None really, can't think of any. read more

I really love the Chicago Style Dogs. They are delicious. I love the tenders, but when I want a dog like the Chicago style, I head for the place. Heck I walk to this one. The only draw back is I don't have a car, so the atmosphere is different when you dine outside and some employee brings out your food and stands there waiting for a tip. He waits a while as well and then he leaves empty handed. I know they only make minimum wage, but servers generally only make 2.13 an hour and I feel I don't need to give more money to a teen ager vs. a mature adult who is actually busting tale to work for a tip. read more

Almost-American dream right here. Sit in your car, have your food delivered to you and eat in the car. It would be perfect if we didn't need to get out of the car to toss the trash (although, if you were a jerk, you could just toss it out the window). Anyway, Sonic is awesome. The price is very affordable. After splitting the price, someone in my car had a meal for $3. Awesome. The tater tots with chili and cheese is epic. Also had a corn dog, which was not bad, but I knew what I was getting myself into. The hot dogs can be ordered with crazy amounts of stuff on top. Someone in my car got the Chicago hot dog, which seemed pretty loaded, but she said the hot dog was only warm (as opposed to hot). There's something for everyone here. My favorite thing about Sonic is the breakfast burrito that has the jalapeno's on it. Such a nice flavor, combined with the onions, tater tots and salsa. The popcorn chicken is pretty good too. I should also give kudos to the shakes. Sonic's not really worth driving 100 miles for, but if there's one close by, it is a very nice thing. Tots were warm, not hot, coney was warm, not hot, boyfriend's burger was hot. Fries were warm, not hot. Today I was searching for a breakfast spot and almost gave up until I saw sonic. I ordered tater tots and French Toast sticks- it was one of those days. I forgot to ask for no salt on my tots, because I hate salt, but to my present surprise they had only a sprinkle on them! My French today sticks were perfectly crisp on the outside and hot and delicious throughout! The syrup was super runny, which I didn't love,and it was extra sweet, which I also didn't love. Hello, I have lived within 5 miles of this location for the last two years. I say that to say I have frequently bought meals here throughout the year. They have messed up meals in the past, but tonight was the last straw. I'm in the drive thru for at least 10 minutes with no other traffic. It takes another 10 minutes for them to prepare a Sonic Burger with no tomatoes with tater tots instead of fries. 10 minutes later I get fries and a burger with tomatoes. My first Sonic experience happened tonight! Glad I finally got to knock that one off the bucket list, I was beginning to worry... Since there was 4 of us piled into one vehicle, we decided to pull up to one of those fancy-schmancy menu boards with the red button linked to the fast food gods. That way we could figure out what we all wanted (thanks to the quick run-down of favorites by the experienced Jodi C.) and order with some sort of efficiency. Except that failed. Uh.... How many times does it take one to press the red button linked to the fast food gods without a response before getting frustrated? 5. I put my truck in reverse and headed for another fancy schmancy menu board with yet another red button linked to the fast food gods. One right in front of the open drive-thru window. I think saying (very loudly) "MAYBE IF THEY SEEEEEE ME THEY WONT IGNOREEEEE ME!" helped. Well, it kinda did. Except this fancy schmancy menu board's almighty speaker was malfunctioning. The fast food god could barely hear our screamed order & we had to put an ear to the box to hear his jumbled responses. It really helped that Sonic likes to play their outdoor music on volume 982625272940 for background noise. Good thing the fast food god was pretty smart - we only had to repeat the order back to each other 3 times. After that ordeal was over, I began to wonder how long our order would take to process and if it was even possible to get it completed correctly. Have no fear... it is possible! Just not with our luck. Although our order came out rather quickly (almost scary fast for $40 worth of food) we didn't get everything. One lone crispy chicken soldier got left behind. Alas, the Sonic prophet speedily returned with both our change and the last of the Mohicans (aka my chicken sammich). As for my food, it was what you would expect - decent, greasy, fast food. The corn dog, crispy chicken sammich and tater tots all did a delicious dance towards my belly, thus expanding my waist line. It all tasted good in a standard way, but no socks blown off this girl. However, I will commend Sonic for their various menu offerings that you can't get anywhere else. That, combined with the ever-refreshing Cherry Limeade slusher drink, I will return again someday to push the red button once more! read more

Being a NOVA resident, there are no Sonic locations close to me--yet they're advertised on TV ALL. THE. TIME. What gives? Haha anyway, been wanting to eat at Sonic for ages, and I finally got my chance to last week. It was Tuesday afternoon, about 3-ish or so. Busy! Not like a zoo where everyone's running into everyone and being annoying, though. Just busy! This, however, was no problem at all, as the place was... well, HOPPING! Ha, get it? Carhop... Hopping... Okay, I'll stop now. But yeah, it wasn't even five minutes before a woman skated out with napkins and condiments, meanwhile our food was cooking. Then our food was ready, not even five minutes after that! Was really impressed. My order: #1, no onion, no mustard. Fries. Frozen lemonade to drink. Tried a grilled cheese as well, because I'm a pig. :p My order came out exactly as I asked, and was really delicious! Hot too! There was so much cheeeese ~ As a cheese lover, I was very happy! :) imo needed a bit more of each condiment, but that burger was damn tasty regardless ahaha. Not gonna knock it! ;p Yum yum! The fries were okay, nothing special, but good. Definitely go for the tots instead--stole a few from my mama, and instantly regretted my side choice lol. Crispy on the outside, and soooo sooooft on the inside ~ The frozen lemonade was really good and super sweet. It lasted all throughout the next two hours I was on the road, all that sweetness keeping my drink drinkable down to the last drop (as opposed to becoming watered down/yucky haha). The grilled cheese was okay. A bit dry, but was still good! Was delighted to see that employees bringing out food to customers were legit on roller skates, btw! I knew this chain was an old-school drive-in, yes, but wow! Major credit for that. If that were my job, I'd be TERRIFIED of high fiving the concrete with my face while simultaneously taking the customer's food down with me. Came back again just last night for dinner (Sunday, early evening, about 6-ish. Was so pleased with my first experience that I just haaaad to eat there again. Got the same burger, this time with no tomato or onion instead. Chili cheese tots for the side, rootbeer to drink. Once again, food was hot, order correct. My burger was a little less cheesy, and still in need of a bit more condiment-wise. The tots were less crispy, more just soft. No complaints, I'm only specifying ;) Had to try dessert this time, so after I inhaled my burger and tots, I ordered a brownie/cookie dough blast. I ended up getting just a cookie dough blast. Didn't mention the error, because there was no sense in wasting perfectly good ice cream! First time at this location. Stopped during my travels. ordered two dogs with sauerkraut, onions and chili and a chocolate shake...thin...so I can drink it through a straw while eating. The buns for the hotdogs were wet and soggy in the center. I had a hard time even holding them. I would guess that either the hot dogs were wet or it was from the sauerkraut.
