I ordered a ton of food here and asked for ketchup and ocean water. Neither one of those things showed up. On top of those necessary things being excluded from my order was my mozzarella sticks that I paid a over-the-top $4.30 for. The CARHOP was a complete jerk and gave me attitude when I asked where my missing items were. At this point I was unaware of the missing mozzarella sticks. I've been going to this Sonic since it opened. It's had its ups and downs - originally the shakes tasted of chemicals (artificial flavor) but a couple of years ago they improved. The burgers were always adequate - in a "fast food" sense - but the last couple of times they've been downgraded; first the flavor was off, and the last time I went, they were not only tasteless, but tough. I mean seriously - TOUGH HAMBURGER?!?! It's supposed to be ground beef - what the heck are they grinding up in there to make for a tough burger? I've scratched this place off my list - when I'm going to settle for fast food, there are now better choices within a block or two. read more

Always friendly and great service here. Yes, the place does get busy and sometimes orders take a while to arrive, but I always feel like everyone there is truly doing their best. And that means more than having to wait a few minutes. Understaffing seems to be the reason for delays when they occur. read more

This is a drive n chill spot for the teens. Food is fast. Service friendly. Menu is the same as all Sonic's.. American comfort food. If Sonic is going to compete with Dairy Queens I would like to see them add the steak finger baskets. Can't decide on it's meat, but I sure like 'em. read more

Every single time I come here there are hardly any cars and it always takes 20 mins to answer the button, normally having to press it multiple times because eventually it turns off. Once sat there waiting and then 25 mins later they finally tell me their system is down. read more

The sonic in Lakeway does a great job of getting you food to you quickly and hit. The customer service has been great the few times I've gone there over the last 7 years. I've never had a bad meal although I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of sonic. read more

I've been eating at Sonic since the late 60s. I've eaten at this one for the last 7 years. I won't be doing that again. I ordered the featured "Swiss cheese, mushroom, onion, on Texas Toast burger" that they were featuring. It was horrible. There was, maybe, one half of a one inch mushroom cap sliced up on the thing. There were a half-dozen transparent onion flakes. The "Texas Toast" that wrapped the dry processed meat product was soft from the microwave and contained what looked like cheese. There was no determinable slice of cheese, just a sort of "cheese stain". I also ordered a "Frito Pie". When I ordered it I asked for jalapenos to be added. They weren't. It consisted of a cardboard hot dog tray with Fritos and perhaps a tablespoon-full of the hot dog chili. A very few onion flakes and a half-tablespoon of cheese finished it off. I've been eating at Sonic since they had aluminum trays that hung on your window and true "foot-long-cheese-coneys". I'm done. This meal truly sucked. read more

Not only am I an unhappy customer of this Sonic location, but I am also a disgruntled X-employee. As a customer, this location has taken over 30 minutes just to prepare a Sprite and a Sonic Blast. I had hoped it was a "one time problem," but it happened over and over, ever time I went. Eventually, I gave up and stopped going. As an X-employee, I am even more upset. When I was hired, I was not given specific training hours, but rather was asked to show up at 7am one day and stay as long as I could. On that day, when I walked in at 7:00am, the manager who was there hadn't even been told I would be there. He was completelly unprepared. And the uniform he gave me? He pulled it from an un-washed box of old, unfolded shirts and hats. The shirt he have me had mustard and oil stains all over the front, but it was the only one that was my size, so I had to wear it. Throughout the day, I was not trained as much as thrown in the middle of a pool and told to swim. Taking orders was almost impossible because you CAN NOT hear worth a damn through the Sonic headsets. The static was louder than the customer's voices, and I had to ask customers to repeat themselves over and over. Several times I just walked out to the car and took the orders by hand. The intercom system is a joke. No wonder orders are sent out wrong ALL the time at this location. I ended up just being put on the drink-machine, where I finally got the hang of things. And I'll admit, Sonic drinks and slushies and Blasts are all made just fine. No gross, moldy cups or nasty ice or anything. That all checked out. Not to say the inside of the Sonic was nice, because it wasn't. It was gross, and the air conditioning was broke for several days. But the drinks are fine. My first day of training, I worked a 5 hour shift: the second day of training, I worked a 10 hour shift. On that second day, I was supposed to be taught how to be a carhop, the position I was HIRED for. That, of course, never happened. Instead, I spent 10 hours making drinks so that the other carhops could take orders out to customers and make their tips, which would ONLY belong to them. Before I left that evening, I was given my schedule for the next 5 days. Training was over, and it was time to actually work-- even though I had YET to be trained for the job I was hired for. What was worse is that over those 5 days, I was schedueled for 50 hours. And not evenly spread out. One day I was expected to work a 7 hour shift, and the next I was expected to work 15 hours, and so on. Being paid minimum wage, with NO tips, was not worth the stress. So I quit. This Sonic is so disorganized that I was never formally put into the system. I had to write my hours down on a sticky note for the manager. When pay day came the week after I quit, I never recieved my pay check. It took me two weeks of brush-off phone calls and not-so-happy face-to-face confrontations to get them to pay me for the work I did. Not to mention that the manager who hired me walked out, too, the weekend after I quit. So it really wasn't just me. Then, once tax season came around, I never recieved my W2. I called them, they told me to call Corporate, and when I asked for the number, the manager rudely told me to "google it." I did, called Corporate, had to fight with the automated machine, was on wait for a LONG time, and finally got through. They then told me I did NOT need to talk to Corporate, but to the Austin Headquarters. They told me to call me store and ask for the number. I told them that Lakeway Sonic told me they didn't HAVE the number, and so they tried to find the number for me-- but they, COPORATE, wasn't even able to find it. They told me to look for a number on my check stubs, but there wasn't one. Just an address. When I googled the address, it said the location was PERMANENTLY CLOSED and the number assigned didn't even work. So I called Lakeway back and demanded a number, which they promtly gave me THIS time. Then I had to drive down to the location and pick up my W2 physically. All-in-all, this Sonic location is terrible. The management is bad, the building is a mess, the intercom system causes too much miscomunication, and they take FOREVER to get food out because they REQUIRE that orders go out in the order they were recieved, no matter how large or small the order was. Plus, being right on 620 and having the drive-way angled up makes this a trap when trying to get out. I would not reccommend this Sonic loacation as both a customer and an X-employee. read more

It appears the issue with this store is the manager. We went today and the person taking the order was rude. I explained what condiments we wanted off the burger and she replied with attitude that we tell her what to put on the burger. The sign clearly stated condiments they put on the burger and I explained that is why I was telling her what to leave off. She again replied with a snarky attitude. The little girl that came out to deliver was sweet. There was an issue with the system taking the gift card I had and she went inside to speak with the manager. The manager came out and to make a long story short I paid without the gift card. I did tell her that the person taking the order was rude, only to find out she was the one taking my order. I showed her the menu so she could see where I was coming from and her response was "Well, you got what you wanted anyway. Really? You aren't even going to really listen to the customer or admit where there may have been an misunderstanding? Sonic is not cheap fast food by any means, and to expect people to deal with attitude from the manager is crazy! read more

This sucks. I love sonic. Went to the one in Bastrop and they were unbelievably amazing. The food came out fast and the staff was phenomenal and catered to my every need. I wrote them an awesome yelp review. This one, unfortunately, is the exact opposite. A week ago i came on 3 different days to this location. The same thing happened each day. I waited patiently for 6 min and moved to 3 different stalls and waited about 10 min at each one. I got out to see what the hold up was and 3 different cars were talking to each other having the same issue of no one available to take orders. About 6 cars ended up leaving after waiting for so long. Another time i came for what i love and they didn't have that and i had already paid and then they told me i could get wings which i couldn't care less for. And the poor staff here is hanging on for dear life trying there best. This message is to management and upper management. You guys are so so bad. Someone higher up needs to be sent to oversee this location and/or your regional management. Lakeway is a very up class area and we shouldn't have to experience such horrid service for a restaurant we otherwise love. I mean look at these horrible reviews they date so far back; you guys have been given ample opportunity to fix this. If u have to raise ur hourly wage to get good workers then do it. Furthermore i don't see any attempt from management to reach out to me and others on here who have had bad experiences. It really says a lot about management. Too many times recently, I press the red button without no response for several minutes and multiple attempts. The other day I FINALLY got my single cherry slush ordered. If I could select a blank star, I would. My family has been to this sonic at least 20x since we've moved to Lakeway. They have got to be the slowest place ever! It happens every time so I am the dumb one for returning. However, today will be my last. I sat at two different spots to get no reply after a total of 15min. I finally called via my cell home and she answered and I asked if they were open and she yes but they were extremely backed up. She said I will be with you in a sec. she then hung up and she never knew which spot I was at. I would have gotten out by I had a baby sleeping in his car seat. Not the brainiest bunch working there and the manager could care less so guess that's why they're the worst. I've been going to this Sonic 3-4 times a week for 20 years. Back in the day, I would have given this Sonic 5 stars, but lately, the service has gotten so slow that I bail out and leave sometime. I love Sonic's food, and service has always been slow here, but I've tolerated that because of the food. Three times in the past eight days, service was so slow that I left. Twice after ordering and having to wait 10+ minutes for my food, and today I left after I pressed the red button and waited at least five minutes with no response. At that point, a woman pulled in to the next stall, pressed her red button, and someone responded timely, and she placed her order. I thought I'd be next in a jiffy, but NO, I waited another five minutes with no response from the disembodied voice over the speaker. I left. I called Sonic Headquarters in OKC, and a helpful person listened to my woes and promised that someone would get back to me to review my complaints. I hope it's not the dude or dudette at this Sonic location. I'll never get a call-back. I estimate that I spend about $1250 a year at this Sonic and this is not the service I expect. On a positive note, the carhops are all friendly and sweet (mostly girls) and often sheepishly apologize about the wait. I tip generously because I know these girls need money and I have more than my share. Ironically, this location might be a really great place to go if you want free food. Several times I've been comped for my meal due to the extensive wait I had to endure. read more
