Usually when I do these these reviews, I base it on three things: The place (location, cleanliness, etc), The people (friendliness, etc), and the product. Upon walking toward the inside of the building, I noticed the parking lot was completely littered with trash, including a dead bird. Inside the guy behind the counter was friendly enough, took my order. It take awhile for me to get my coke and sundae, being served by a guy who felt it was absolutely important to blast his music on a speaker, which was kind of obnoxious. The sundae was made with the wrong ice cream, but I wasn't too bothered with that. What I was bothered with was the fact that my Coke was actually a root beer. After bringing it to the counter, the guy behind the counter was quick to apologize and set me up with the Coke. Overall, this visit was very underwhelming. I don't come here often, but hopefully it will be much better and cleaner the next time I go. The quality of the food overall was good. read more

I want to start out by saying that every other time I have ever gone to sonic it has been a terrible experience; either because of a long wait, employees with no customer service skills and almost always something wrong with my order. Usually I just drive home, realize the problem and forget about it even though it is a huge inconvenience and a waste of money. But this time was even worse than the status quo that is sonic. This time someone who works there literally put an empty box and two marinara sauces in my bag which I assume is because they were too lazy to tell me they were out of mozzarella sticks and refund me my money. I am so sick of going there and seeing people who don't care at all about their jobs. This is one of the only places that is open late at night which is why I keep going back and expecting something different from them. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed every time. Sonic Drive-In - Burgers Near Me - Peabody, Massachusetts

I was excited to learn that sonic would be selling the new Chicago dog since there is nothing better than a true chicago dog! I made the trek, ordered the dog and was EXTREMELY disappointed when I opened the bag. The commercial and website says it comes on a poppy bun with celery salt. Well mine came on a standard hot dog bun with no celery salt. Would have been better off grilling up a hot dog at home. read more

Went to the Wilmington, MA Sonic and ordered a steak and cheese sub and a sundae. The sundae was fine, but the steak and cheese sub was inedible. It came in a hot dog style roll and tasted bad as in spoiled. I took one bite and tossed it. Haven't eaten there since. read more

Will NEVER patronize this location again. I placed an order at the drive-thru for two hot dogs, a medium mozzarella stick, and a shake. I pulled in the parking lot to eat. The two hot dogs were lukewarm and should have been way hotter. The mozzarella sticks were cold and tasted like they had been made a long time ago. After eating two mozzarella sticks I decided that they were so bad, that I needed to bring them back! At this time I was fine with just getting a new one (anyone else would have been a lot madded). This time I had to wait a long time at the drive-thru line. The young kid at the window said they would make them over for me. Since I was there waiting in line once again I decided to order another hot dog. The manager apparently decided to accommodate my cold mozzarella sticks by replacing my medium with a small, "since I ate two" according to her. I realized this when I went to open my bag the second time. Thinking this was a mistake I got back in the drive-thru line again and told the kid at the window that they gave me the wrong size. He called over the manager lady who was very rude. She proceeded to tell me that because I ate two cold ones they were only replacing what I brought back. When I told her that this was appalling she stated that "this is what the owner would do". After telling her how appalled I was that they couldn't spare two mozzarella sticks to a customer that was just served less than satisfactory food, to the point that the food was returned, she tried to tell me that she didn't just tell me what I heard and that I misunderstood and that she thought I had ordered a small. I told her, I heard you tell the kid at the window the first time I came back to "just give her a small". Being treated this way after buying terrible food is not how you treat customers that you want to return. Not once did the manager apologize. She just continued to argue with me. I do not need to spend any of my time or money at a place like this. They get a ZERO in customer service. And for this owner, if what the manager said is true, that "this is what the owner would do", then they are a disgrace to the SONIC franchise. Shame on them for representing SONIC so poorly! I showed up about quarter of 2am and after i got my food and started eating in the booth a group of black men pulled me out of the car and brutally assaulted me and left me on the pavement and not 1 sonic employee called for the police. so all i could do was pull myself back into my vandalized vehicle and make it to the nearest hospital. read more

I am currently waiting on my order. Placed it about 15 plus minutes ago. The bathroom is disgusting and the toilet doesn't flush apparently due to the numerous people that tried prior to me going in there. The young girl is trying to keep up with customer orders as well as bringing plastic ware and other items to dining patrons. Only this girl is taking orders in dining room. The booths outside and drive thru line is extensive. Bad choice for stopping here. read more

This place is a Damn nightmare! I was so excited to try it but as intimidating as it seems with all the windows and not really knowing what the easiest way to order is when someone finally comes on the speaker they don't speak English!!! Like at all!! I was trying to explain that I wanted melted cheese on my hotdog and the girl told me "she had things to do" after I ordered fe my whole family she told me to come inside and reorder. She was as rude as they come and when I asked to speak to the manager yet sent out a guy who wasn't a manager. I asked him to send the real manager out and demanded the girls name that took my order and her name was supposedly Brenda. They offered 10% off of my order like that was any kind of help considering the aggravation and time wasted! The place is a mess and as a restaurant manager myself corporate needs to make some serious changes or else this key location will surely fail. Get better staff and please make sure they are old enough to run a business. read more

The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because of the slushes. The service is absolutely awful, let alone the food, which is always served cold and takes a long time to prepare. One time they even forgot about my order waiting in the stalls! We waited for over an hour for our food! Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very poorly run and managed. read more

I've eaten at Sonic Drive-In restaurants in Arizona and Virginia (where I first discovered them). The food was delicious but standard for any fast food fare but still good. Part of it's appeal is the diverse menu, which is American fast food but I think all will be able to find something they'll like from tater tots to cheeseburgers to grilled cheese sandwiches to a lot of dessert treats. The service is done drive-in style in which you drive in, look at your menu, make your choice and do the order through the intercom with a server who comes out to greet you. However, having gone to the Peabody location twice, as this is only 1 of 2 Sonics in the area, I have to say that service is terrible. Twice, my food orders weren't put in and twice, I was dumb enough to wait a substantial amount of time from 30-40 minutes for a simple order of grilled cheese, tater tots and a coke. Apparently their excuse is they forgot to put in my order but yet had no problem filling in the orders of the people ordering after me. Both times, I've gone to two different drive in kiosks and twice this has happened. I was very frustrated and during this second visit, I kept buzzing them and basically got ignored. When they finally sent someone out, they claimed that their system went out of whack and they lost 40 receipts in the process of 3 hours. Somehow, I have a hard time believing that when they're able to fill in the orders before and after my order. I guess it's really, really difficult to fill an order of grilled cheese, tater tots and a small coke. I went next door to Wendy's and had my order filled within five minutes a the drive thru and when I told the employee at the drive thru about how Wendy's was way more efficient than Sonic in filling the order, he said they were short staffed two people that night and still cranking out the orders. Go to the other dime a dozen fast food restaurants over Sonic, the service sucks, their intercom system never seems to work (twice I've experienced communication and technical problems with it) and they don't know how to fill an order or have any kind of efficient time system. Fine, I'm not going to wait any longer i'll just hit the drive-thru. I pull up and over the intercom I hear "Please pull in to a car-port, we are not taking drive through orders. This is at 11pm. This place has horrible service. After I ordered it took about 25 minutes for them to come out with the order (an order that was under $25 so not huge). I gave them the money, but for some reason they took one of the bags back with them (two hamburgers and fries I assume). The boneless chicken that they did deliver was without the ranch or utensils that we asked for. After they had not returned w/ the change or bag of hamburgers within 20 minutes, I went in to follow up. There was no one behind the counter to help me, but a worker on break approached me and asked me what I needed. She went to the back and said that she had fixed it. Then I waited more, and finally someone came out with the bag and returned to the back. When I opened the bag, it was missing a hamburger. At that point I had to peak back into the back to get their attention (no one was up front helping people still) and asked them for the missing burger. Finally, I told them I would be in the car (after being yelled at by someone who I assume is a manager for peaking back -- not sure how else I was going to communicate with them, seeing as all eight workers were loitering in the back goofing off). After about 15 minutes inside, and an additional 10 minutes, I finally had my completed orders. 70 minutes of waiting total. Mind you the restaurant was not busy (there were three cars in the lot), there was more employees than customers, and this was 7 pm at night. The food they finally provided was decent, so that is why I'm rating it 2 stars, despite their 0 star service. read more

Needed dinner. Have always had good cherry limeades before so stopped here. Went inside cuz we knew carhop could be slow and wanted to sit down. Tables dirty. Tryed to decipher the cryptic menu. Food came out slow. What looked like $10 worth of not so fast food was $25. Med tots? Looks like 6 of them, 6 total tots for $4ish. Limeaides bitter. Kids ate OK so ordered them a banana split. I was so excited to finally have a Sonic near us cause their commercials always look so good! This one has failed majorly. I have already complained to corporate once but they gave us a free meal and they messed it up when we went back. The drive in is just a bad idea because if they forget something or mess something up, which they have every time, they can just never bring the thing to you. You can't do anything besides just keep pushing the button because there is no inside! Extremely slow service at drive in no matter how slow or busy they are and I have to say that their 2nd biggest problem is consistency. I'm dieting so when I splurge on something, I expect it to be correct. I order a diet coke and add chocolate to it. Such a good idea that stemmed from Johnny Rockets. Sometimes it fills the cup, sometimes you can't taste anything at all, sometimes there is just a bit. This is clearly a training issue. Also splurged on a jr breakfast burrito which is supposed to be scrambled egg, cheese sauce and sausage going by what I always get delivered. The other day it was a fried egg, a cheese slice, and some type if meat mix that was burned to a crisp that someone scraped off the grill! Sonic, why do you continue to disappoint??? :( read more

Have always wanted to try Sonic, I see the commercials all the time. So recently after seeing Bon Jovi at the Garden (oh yeah!!) we were driving back to Maine. It was around midnight, and we were starving. So we hit Sonic and I was so excited to finally get to try it! We were going to do the drive thru, but decided to park and order since we wanted time to look at the menu. It was not very crowded, perhaps 8 other cars and 1 or 2 at the drive thru. We looked over the menu, and finally ordered. This is supposed to be fast food right? Am I wrong? 25 painful minutes later our order came out. We drove away opting to eat and drive as we were exhausted. Took out the french fries and....ICE COLD! Not to mention flavorless. Such a big disappointment! The burgers were pretty good, but not good enough to make me ever want to go back. My question is, if we waited 25 minutes for curbside delivery, how long must cars in the drive thru wait????? Sonic has improved quite a bit since opening. I have only gone about three times since they opened because it is quite a distance; first time we had issues with order and amount of time we waited for our food but the two times I went since then (most recently this past weekend) the food was nice and hot and served quickly; in fact I said lets see how long it takes, looked at the time we placed the order and to our surprise they were at our window in five minutes. The car hop Ryan was very friendly and courteous. I do agree that it doesn't have the same novelty as the ones we ate at in Florida and I do not understand why it is so far out in Massachusetts. read more

Terrible service. Have any of these employees been trained? My drive-in experience happened at about 2:45 PM on a Monday, so it was not busy at all. The wait in the drive through line was about 8 minutes (there were only two cars ahead of me). When I finally got to the window, I watched as nobody seemed to have a clue. When the window finally opened, he asked me what I had ordered. I then handed in a $20-nothing for another 5 minutes: no change, no food. The employees all seemed to be colliding with each other, trying to figure out who had ordered what. The cashier was bringing food out to cars that had not even come up to the window to pay yet. Also, during my wait at the window, the cashier realized that he had forgotten something for the customer who was now pulling out onto Rt. 1. So I finally got my food; I had to ask for my $12.00 change from the $20.00 I gave him five minutes prior. All this for average take out burger & fries? Don't think so, especially with a Wendy's about 1/4 mile down Rt. 1 (who is offering better pricing like some of the other "burger wars" chains. Sonic is not.) Quality of this Sonic has gone down from what it was a couple of years ago. I see no reason to return. Obviously, management does not care. read more

After seeing Sonic commercials for years, we were so excited when we found out that a sonic was coming to massachusetts. The hubby and I made a special side trip to go there in the convertible. It was really cool to pull up into your own little stall and place your order. The carhop who brought out our order was very nice. However, the food was TERRIBLE!!!!! The cherry limeade was so sickly sweet. I got a western chili burger, the chili wasn't bad, but the burger looked and tasted like it had been sitting around all day. The tater tots were luke warm at best. My husband got a burger on texas toast, fries (that were luke warm as well) and onion rings. After eating one ring he threw the rest away. Also, after we left there, we pulled over about a mile down the street because he thought he was going to throw up. SUCH A DISAPOINTMENT! Needless to say, we will not be returning! read more

I've never gone through the drive-thru cause the line seems too long. The times I've been in my car to order have been horrible. I've had to wait upwards of 35 minutes for someone to even take my order. Almost everytime I order a slush or a shake they give me a random flavor. (Asked for peanut butter but I got strawberry) The one time I went inside to order, there was no one working the register and it took 40 minutes for me to order 1 slush. Workers were going in and out, clearly seeing me waiting to order. When I stopped them to get someone to take my order they looked at me confused and said they would look. The lady behind me got her shake before mine and I had to tell them I was still waiting for my slush I had ordered 40 minutes ago. Horrible, I don't think I'll ever come back. read more

The patio ordering process doesn't work. You speak into a sign to a guy who's inside the building (15 feet away from you behind the glass) and you have to keep repeating yourself because the patio has plenty of other people talking and there is music playing while you eat. Just a mess. read more

Best coffee on the North Shore at only $1.00 for a large if you're there before 10am. It puts Dunkins and Starbucks to shame.

This location is the worst Sonic I've ever been to. I've gone there 3 times, each time I ordered a strawberry lemonade. Each time, when they brought my drink out, they brought me the wrong drink. The service takes forever and when we went today, we were the only customers there. The carhops are not friendly and when I told them my drink order was wrong, each time they just looked at me like 'is this MY problem?!' I grew up on Sonic and love their food/drinks, but I wont be going back to this location. I'm sorry, but their food is actually pretty gross. I think I was more excited to actually be eating by the time we waited 40 minutes to order than the fact that it was good. Well I went to Sonic last night, and it was disgusting! Just to preface this, I am NOT a person who normally eats fast food-I take my kids once in a while and have some of their fries, take a bite of their burger or chicken and that is about it. But with all the hoopla about Sonic, I thought I'd give them a try. First off, we waited in a line of cars for 20 minutes (and that was at 4:30 pm on a Sat. and we were the 3rd car in line!), to pull into basically a parking place. While we were waiting in line it was a bit chaotic. There were cars trying to get in and around that place, trying to squeeze by, not being able to squeeze by because there weren't any directions about where to go, where to wait, or what to do. There was only one arrow on the ground pointing to where you go to park in a parking stall and order food, and one arrow that said "bypass", which BTW, was a lane for the drive thru (that I never knew they had, as there isn't any sign that SAYS there is a drive thru), and the lane next to the drive thru lane does actually go 3/4 around the building so you can park and walk up to basically a patio with tables and benches, to push a button and order your food and eat outside. When we finally pulled into our parking stall, after about 10 minutes of trying to decide what to order and how to order, we pushed the big red button and ordered. With the music playing over head, and the voices of the people in the 2 cars on either side of us, it was very difficult to hear the person I was speaking to about my order. So we finished ordering and hoped they were going to get it right. Our food came in about 6-7 minutes, by a person on skates, with our food piled on a tray. But you don't get to use that tray (like the old A &W's-NOW I am dating myself!), to hold your food in the car. Just as I predicted, they did not get the order right, and we had to send one burger back. Luckily we looked at the food BEFORE our skater left, otherwise, I guess you would have to push the button and wait to have someone come back to pick up the food, return it to be remade and wait again for it. We got the new burger about 4 minutes later, and then we had to ask for salt and yellow mustard, which meant we had to wait again for them to go and get it and come back with it before we could start eating. The buns were soggy, the small flat burgers were tasteless, the very small portions of fries and tots were soggy and undercooked, and the rings tasted like there was sugar in the coating. We paid $30 for 3 burgers, one hot dog on a stick, 2 fries, 1 order of tots, one ring, 2 sodas and one shake. BTW the shake was just okay, and the medium size was very small. Their drink menu looked interesting, a lot of limeaids, slushes and other frozen drinks-but since I will never go to a Sonic again, I guess I will never get to taste them. There was NOTHING that I or my family ate that we ever would crave so much that we would ever want to go back there again. So I guess you pay for the novelty-it was basically a fast food place, that you can't see into the windows, there is a door in the building that leads to two bathrooms, and that is about it. It may be a fun place to get a cool drink in the summer if you are a teenager, but that is about it. And on a hot summer night how long will cars stay there and eat and "hang out"?"? BTW, at first I couldn't figure out how they make any money at all, due to the limited parking places and lack of any type of flow of traffic-but when I paid the bill I figured it out. Too bad, because it sounds like a cool idea-but IMO is NOT worth the wait, the aggravation and price. read more

Eh... The food wasn't anything great. I ordered a grilled cheese and it was merely two pieces of lightly toasted bread with cheese and it was cold. The only redeeming quality to Sonic is the drinks. I got a peanut butter shake and that was very good. However, Wendy's is right next door and has much better food. read more
