My visit yesterday just showed it's hit or miss when it comes to the quality of the BBQ. Very disappointed in the quality of the BBQ we ordered at 5PM. It tasted like it had been sitting around being kept warm since earlier in the day. The ribs and pulled chicken were dry like a bone. The fries were not cooked and crispy line I've had in the past. I don't think it a good idea to go there so early in the evening. Next time, everything gets sent back or we just leave without eating what was served and refuse to pay. It's definitely not competition BBQ. I'll try a different BBQ joint next time. read more

My husband and I who are both nurses enjoyed free pork big deals today in recognition of nurses week. We're very appreciative that Sonny's shows nurses some love! I've never eaten inside a Sonny's before and it's got really nice decor that has a lot of natural wood and iron details as well as a picture of the founder and a plaque marking his table, which is really cool. It was obvious that they were short staffed, but our waitress did a great job while being in a stressful situation. We started with the pulled pork egg rolls and smoking ranch which were savory, crispy and delicious! I hot the pulled pork, garlic bread on the side and baked beans. My husband got the pulled pork on garlic bread and fries. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, was hot, and delicious. There were 4 different BBQ sauces on the table and you could get Caroline golf sauce if you asked for it. We finished our meal with the banana pudding. It's apparently made to order and it was beautifully prepared and a simple, delicious dessert. Rating from a F to A+++ we give it an A++. We will definitely be coming back! read more

I freaking love this Sonny's location!! Stopped in for lunch twice in 2 weeks. First time for the all-you-can-eat ribs. I got the dry rubbed variety and they are to die for. Second time for the all-you-can-eat chicken....also very good, but those RIBS!!! MMMMM-MMMMMM!! I only got one serving both visits, Sonny's gives you plenty (for me, anyways) on the first go round. Great food but terrible service. We just went there on a Monday at 3:45PM and sat at the bar for about 5-10 min without a single person even coming to the bar. At that point, we decided we'd just place our order at the kiosk; kiosk didn't work. We waited at the window to place our order to go, and not a single person came to the window. At that point, we just decided that we waited long enough and left. As we were leaving, we look to the outside patio area, and there were the employees, all 3 of them sitting outside chatting. This BBQ joint is a big chain in these parts. They specialize in all BBQ meats and sauces. They have been around since 1968. The restaurant is pretty big and modern. It can be good for group dinners. Service was friendly and good. We had Blue moon on tap. We ordered their Sonny's sampler platter which can accommodate two people. The corn bread was dry. The ribs was too chewy but had good seasoning. The brisket was ok but needed seasoning or sauce. The chicken was moist but needed seasoning or sauce. My hubby does like their sweet BBQ sauce though. The fries was different. It was not deep fried but baked maybe? It was so dry and tasteless. It actually tastes old?! I had their Beef brisket BBQ sandwich. The garlic butter toast was good. The beef brisket was good but definitely needs sauce or seasoning. My favorite sauce there was their Sizzling BBQ sauce. The food and prices were ok. I give it more a 2.5 stars. We live just down the street from the Apopka Sonny's location and eat there at least once a month, often more. The wife loves the half-chicken meal with sides (she loves the mac n cheese) , I choose their brisket, steak burger, or BBQ salad. All choices are excellent. The food is delivered quickly, and service is generally outstanding, friendly, etc. We love the place and the value in this day and age is off the charts, where can you get two great dinners for under $30???? read more

Sonny's was surprisingly good! Service was good, food was good and the margaritas were....okay (I'm a self proclaimed Elite Margarita Critic). I ordered the ribs and wings and Hubby ordered the brisket dinner. All of our meats were delicious. Sonny's is a very popular BBQ chain, and you can't argue with their all you can eat meals! I came in for lunch with my wife as we had missed breakfast and had an appetite. I got the all you can eat ribs, and got the all you can eat pulled pork. Each come with an order of two sides, and garlic bread or corn bread. Sonny's has good garlic bread, but the ribs are my favorite. The sides are all you can eat too, so you can reorder them as much as you want. If you love sweet tea, Sonny's makes a great batch daily! The catch on the all you can eat is that the portions get smaller for the entree's. You'll start with 6 ribs, then get 3-4 ribs afterwards per order. The trick is to order twice! Something that has my curiosity on Sonny's is their alcoholic beverages, I never would've thought Sonny's would serve liquor, so maybe next I'll have a adult sweet tea. read more

Came here for the $5 Big Deal special BBQ Day. People lined up out the door OUTSIDE in 95F temperatures. Drive Thru wrapped around and throughout the parking lot, a separate line out the door to take out orders. I never seen this Sonny's location this massively busy. It was significantly faster to do Take Out than Drive Thru. We realized this as people where coming to cars in Drive Thru with Bags from Take Out and driving off. The food was great and the service was fast once we went in. In and out in under 15 minutes. Of course we waiting in drive thru for 30 minutes before going in and moved about 7 car links . Mild sauce is a pain to get. Other than that an all out great experience. read more

The food is overpriced and the portion sizes are very weak for the price. The brisket sandwich was so dry it tasted like I was eating wood chips. The fries were underwhelming and not seasoned. I also asked for light ice in my drink and the filled it to the top with ice. Don't go here unless you want bad and overpriced food. read more

Food and table service is always good but the last two times I've been there I had to ask to be seated after waiting up front. Apparently the hostess doesn't pay attention to people coming in and seemed inconvenienced when the carry-out girl went back to tell her someone was waiting to be seated. Then she came out slowly acting like she was being inconvenienced. I would also think that other staff would alert the hostess when they saw someone standing there for a few minutes. My first time going here, I was told that sometimes it's hit and miss but today seem like it was a bit of both. I ordered the macaroni and cheese, and baked beans which was really good and then I ordered the all you can eat ribs and those were really hit and miss. The first set was really good, and then the second set wasn't so great. I will come back though and try some other things on the menu. Happy ending. We placed a catering order on Monday to be picked up on Friday. When we arrive for pick up we were told that they had no order for us. It was confirmed that we called the right location but somehow the ball got dropped. We were in a bit of a panic with 12 people expected for dinner but the catering group told us if we could wait 20 minutes they would put everything together. They actually accomplished it in 15 minutes. We got two meats, three sides, cornbread, and 2 gallons of drink for about $150. The food was delicious and there were plenty of leftovers for everyone. Today was a good day at Sonny's BBQ. However, you can't say that about every visit. This franchise BBQ joint is fairly prices with a cool hipster atmosphere and friendly service staff. As it is often the case with BBQ joints, consistencies can be somewhat illusive. Sadly, that's been our experience at Sonny's. Like I said, today was a great day at Sonny's :) Today, the meat, service and overall experience was top notch! The ribs were oh so delicious. Caramelized and smoked just right. A generous amount sauce made it obsolete for me to even try to use the sauces on the side, yes they were that delicious. The sides were great, except for the coleslaw which was under seasoned for me. My server brought me a sweet baked potato with cinnamon butter. First time I tried it and I loved it. Will come again and hope it will be another great day at Sonny's! read more

Great prices and great barbecue! Oh yes and we were a huge group about 20 and our waitress did great! Brisket was on point nice and tender their sweet and a bit of spicy barbecue sauce took it over the edge for taste. In our group everyone tried something different and everyone was happy. Great variety from ribs, to brisket, pulled pork all very flavorful. Main dishes were savory tender and perfectly done. The side dishes were a hit amongst our favorite was the Mac and cheese and salad bar. Mac and cheese at these places can taste box ready but this was not the case nice and cheesy. I've been going to Sonny's for years. It can be hit or miss depending on the location when it comes to service but I honestly don't remember ever having a bad meal at any location. The service has always been great at this one. I haven't been here in a bit & I guess they have a full bar now. The happy hour starts at 3:00 pm daily! Not sure when it ends. They have a fairly reasonable lunch menu with some great selections. We ordered the Redneck egg rolls appetizer, the Pulled Pork lunch platter & the Smokin' Gun sandwich. The Redneck egg rolls came out quickly. They are stuffed with pulled pork, a bit of coleslaw & cheese. They were crispy, tasty & really stuffed with pulled pork. I liked that the server gave us a chance to enjoy our appetizer before starting the rest of our order. I always get the pulled pork platter & the meat was good as usual. The beans were a bit bland this time but otherwise everything was good. My husband had the Smokin' Gun which has hot Links, chopped beef brisket, banana peppers and red onion topped with a sweet & smokey sauce on either a bun or garlic bread. You can get just the sandwich or for an additional $2 make it a meal with a side & a drink. I didn't try it but he said it was pretty good. Let me start by saying we normally have a great dining experience at this location. Lesa, Denise, and Britny are fantastic servers (unfortunately their sections were full by the time we got there.) We are regular customers as we come once a week. Three out five plates came out cold. Tonight we were seated with Levi and his customer service skills are very poor. The bill was wrong and when we tried to get it corrected he wanted to argue and had the audacity to say "I didn't know you worked here." He was extremely rude to my family and even threw the bill down on our table twice. The second time he threw the bill down he also threw down the card we paid with without the customer and merchant copy to sign. The manager on duty Devin tried his best to rectify the issue but tensions were already high due to the rude service and lack of people wanting to listen to our concerns. It is always hit and miss with this place. I ordered a cheeseburger with mayo, tomato and lettuce. The server was really flighty and brought me a burger with cheese on the platter, lettuce and wet lettuce and no bun. They had put two pieces of bread on the meal. I asked where the bun was and the server said she didn't know why they did that. She returned from the kitchen and said they did it because they were out of buns. I asked if it would be possible to get some A1 Sauce and I would eat it without bread. She came back and said they didn't have A1 Sauce. This time she was quite short with me. Very consistent, very fast. I have been to this Sonny's quite a few times and you know what you are going to get every time. Good food and great service Update: the food this visit was still great, however the service not so much. So no joke here our food came out and I asked the server what was wrong with this picture.... after he puts the food down on the table he stands there thinking for a minute and then finally realizes he still hasn't brought us our drinks! And no the food did not come out lightning quick but still quicker than the drinks were slower. Our food reorders took incredibly long as well. read more

Decided to give what I hoped was a new and improved Sonny's another shot after not eating at one in over 10 years and stopped by for take-out. The remodeled building is very nice and upscale. The roadsign reminds me of Smokey Bones and the building of 4 Rivers. Pros: Dry rub ribs looked good and were tasty. Fried okra. Corn muffin. Sweet BBQ sauce. Cons: Chicken skin remains soggy and inedible. They have got to learn how to finish chicken. Chicken and Brisket had mild flavor. Black takeout containers had very greasy finger marks all over them. I did find a disconnect between the new branding/contemporary building appearance and the traditional diner appearance of the staff. I'd go back for the ribs and okra. They are improving. read more

We came here for lunch with my husband's aunt and her friends. We were told (as we were walking up "this place used to be better", and all I can think is "used to be better like Olive Garden used to be better, like Red Lobster used to be better, like Outback used to be better??" Panic sets in.) All I can say is if this placed USED to be better.... I don't know if I could handle the before, because this place was dy-no-mite in my book. We ordered lunch, and our aunt and the friends around the table ordered lunch to be brought out at the end to take to their hubbies at home. The server (can't remember her name but I think it was Connie) was happy to do that for them all (there were 3 of them) and the check was split and I didn't sense any problem from the server. I was told that this is their favorite server, and I can understand why. She went above and beyond, all with a smile on her face. The food was amazing. I tried my daughter brisket and fries, tried the Redneck Egg Rolls and the Corn Fritters and everything was de-lish. I was told that the salad bar was not as good as it used to be, but I wasn't having salad, so that wasn't an issue for me. I had the pulled pork on garlic bread with cole slaw and I was one happy camper. The slaw cabbage was diced small and had shredded carrots and was sweet, just the way I like it. The meat was smokey and tender, nice flavor. The garlic bread put the sandwich over the top. The bread was thick and crunchy, had that nice buttery garlic snap to it, then you just sink into soft bread and meat heaven. Yum indeed. I made a point of trying all the sauces: Mild: Was pretty much a nice BBQ sauce with a signature flare to it. Sweet: A very nice sweet BBQ sauce, always a safe bet, and this one was perfect, not too sweet, just the right amount to take some of the tang out of the regular mild sauce. Mustard: A little watery, and very vinegary, if you like that sort of flavor, you'll like this sauce. Smokey: Very strong flavors and a touch of heat that was quite nice. Sizzling: I thought the sweet was the flavor winner until I tried Sizzling. I found the spice level on Smokey to be hotter than Sizzling. Sizzling was this perfect marriage of sweet and spicy, with almost no heat to blow out your taste buds. Perfection. The Corn Fritters were the perfect size for just popping in your mouth, and were dusted with cheese to really make the flavors sing in your mouth. These were really good. And the Redneck Egg Rolls were fantastic. The crispness of the wrap lended itself perfectly to holding the pulled pork and cabbage combo inside. I loved the textures of both, I liked the way they played off of each other. The sauce the egg rolls came with paired perfectly with these treats, so I really enjoyed those. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, I enjoyed lunch at Sonny's and hope to be back very soon. read more
