We have eaten here 3 times in the last year or so and each time was excellent. Then...we went to lunch today with their incredible ayce smoked chicken. I had asked for all white meat($2 upcharge). Our food came and our server said they had given me dark which they had to fix. Three out of four sidekicks were wrong. French fries were soggy and room temperature. Only one of us ordered baked beans which were room temperature. Ear of corn was room temperature. All four pieces of smoked chicken were room temperature. Darn..... We looked at one another and asked if we dared to risk the wrath of the kitchen in asking for a massive redo. We decided not and left after expecting an incredible meal. Ice tea was good. read more

Called in for a to-go order and spoke with a girl who rattled off a rapid fire greeting, asked me to hold, did not wait for an answer and then hung up on me. Did this twice. Finally called back and got to actually speak with her and she was less than thrilled and enthusiastic in speaking to me. Asked for he supervisor, thinking I could communicate with someone of intelligence and longevity there. My mistake. On hold for almost ten minutes, then Cheryl got on the phone. Made some excuse that they are busy. Look, I get it, however why am I treated less than someone sitting in their restaurant, waiting for their order to be taken? I could hear Cheryl cupping the phone and having a conversation with someone in the immediate area. If you are not laser focused on someone who is experiencing a problem with your service and give them a half-assed listen, why are you even in your position. Hung up, cooked a better dinner myself. Followed this experience up with an email to the GM and over 10 days later, still have not heard a peep from Sonny's. Will never, ever get another drop of my money. read more

Sonny's Apopka catered the food for my daughter's rehearsal dinner that we held at Sweetwater Clubhouse. We opted for the servers to set up, serve, and break down. We had over 50 people at the dinner and everyone raved about the food as well as the helpful, polite Sonny's staff members. There was so much leftover food, it really helped out with all the out of town family who came for lunch on Sunday after the wedding. I've had Sonny's catering for many events over the years and it has never disappointed us. Our event was 2 weeks before the Covid shut down, so I can't say what's available now. But the next time I need great food and an exceptionally reasonable price from soup to nuts, I'll call Sonny's Apopka first! read more

As we all know, Sonny's BBQ is a chain restaurant. It has a drive through, a outside patio area to eat at, and a small bar area when you first walk in. This particular restaurant has been updated and has a very modern feel to it. My husband and I were immediately greeted and sat. We ordered the wings and pulled pork platter. Absolutely love the new decor and feel of Sonny's now. Not to mention the dry rub ribs are the best in town. Ask for the North Carolina sauce. We arrived shortly before closing time, and the restaurant was fairly quiet, but everyone was welcoming. Our server Mike was very attentive and very friendly. He gladly brought us extra packets of BBQ sauces for us to sample (It was our first time at Sonny's). I manage a restaurant, and I am very picky about where I eat and the quality of service I receive. And I can easily say my expectations were exceeded especially considering this is a franchise chain. I already had a problem with Sonny's on OBT so I decided to go to this one since I really enjoy this restaurant. I go and order my food and bring it home and realize that I never was given my fries. I live very far from this Sonny's so I decided to call and see if there was anything I could do about this. I called and the woman on the phone told me she had processed my refund for the fries I was missing. I assumed that I had solved the problem and waited 7-10 business days to receive my refund. It has been over 10 business days and I still have not received a refund. I do not understand why whenever I come to Sonny's I cannot have an enjoyable experience. read more

Lost a customer- They were not concerned Had an interesting drive thru visit today and still scratching my head as to why they handled it the way they did. I placed an order for the ribs and hot links meal. I read it off the drive thru menu as this is how I decided what to order. Long story short, I didn't get what I ordered. Got charged more money for what they gave me (ribs and chicken wings) and realized I didn't get an itemized receipt or the usual re-verify of my order once I reviewed the experience mentally at home upon realizing I didn't get what I ordered. Once I got home and realized my order was not correct, I immediately called them. I was given to a female manager and she proceeded to say "Ohh, that's why she was confused. We don't have that on our menu." To which I corrected her that Yes they indeed DID have it on their menu as I had ordered it before AND no one even told me their was an issue at the drive thru. When I first ordered, I did also notice they didn't ask me what type of ribs I wanted but since I eat both, no biggie. But, sounds like they just gave me whatever they wanted. Hot links and chicken does not sound anything alike. Yet, still, why not clarify when you took my money. The hotlinks and ribs also cost less than the ribs and chicken wings so that was another strike! I was the only person at the drive thru. She took my payment right away but then it seemed to take forever to get my food. I brushed it off. When I got home is when I realized the hot links were instead small chicken wings. That is when I called back and was sent to the manager who tried to offer me a $5 coupon since I didn't want to drive all the way back. It's about a 16 mile RT drive. When I realized I was also charged more and not getting what I wanted, I decided to just take the order back and drive another 16 miles RT. I came in thru the back driveway and was caught off guard when I saw who turned out to be the manager at the drive thru menu with the glass open. She closed it and went back inside. Later when I talked to her she mentioned she had went to look at the menu and that item wasn't on there, basically acting like I lied. I know what I read and I actually brought a copy of the menu off the website with me that showed the hot links and ribs and was also shown it is on the printed and laminated menu on the inside. Once again, why go through all of this trouble for an incorrect order? Since when do you have to open the glass just to 'view" your drive thru menu? When the manager came up front, I asked her why I was told they don't have that item on the menu. She said at first, she had looked and it wasn't on there. I told her I saw her back there. Didn't mention that I also saw her with the glass open. THEN she proceeded to tell me she went back to the employee and she this time said she thought I ordered wings and ribs. She also said she had asked me what kind of ribs. Never heard it. I would have liked to know what she said my answer was since that never came up. Whatever reason they handled this situation the way they did, I have no idea. What they did do is lose a customer and I even told her I know they don't care. She tried to then say they did care. She was just so non-chalant. I have better things to do with my time but decided to write this anyway in hopes that someone will address this. I will never set foot in another Sonny's again as a result of this. I have dealt with inconsistencies in food and slow service before but this took the cake. Sonny's in Apopka, you truly dropped the ball today and instead of trying to correct it, you chose to lie and try to cover it up. Why? That's truly sad. I hope this never happens to anyone else and next time you think about how you would like to be treated. One thing I do not do is lie. Just own your mistake and correct it next time. Who are you and what did you do with the Sonny's I grew up with? The Sonny's chain is certainly stepping their game up when it comes to décor and overall establishment appeal! I stopped by with family for a little birthday celebratory luncheon and I almost didn't recognize the place! Sonny's is clearing trying to compete with some of the local competition like 4 Rivers and Smoky Bones. I'm pleased to report not much has changed in the food arena. Sonny's still has the same consistent flavor and presentation. The deals are considerably better than before as well. There is something comforting about consistency and I applaud Sonny's for that alone. Although the restaurant was packed the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful with our large party. Surprisingly good. The special was a Full rack of ribs and 2 sides. It was allot of food and ribs fell off bone with nice smoke flavor. We waited almost an hour for a table (we were told 25 mins, so we expected a wait) but when table after table were seated by customers that arrived after us we got no help as to why our wait was taking so long. At one point the hostess told us we couldn't take the table that seats 10 when we needed a table for 8. So the table for 10, that waited approx 15 mins were seated. Well, first off we should start out by saying that we liked the new decor in this Sonny's. It seems to be more modern, and when we walked in we were excited as we have always loved Sonny's but we were disappointed last night. Our waitress was rude and not very attentive. We even had to ask to have more water. When we asked for things, we felt like we were bugging her. When our food arrived, we felt like the servers just ran off, instead of asking us what they could get for us. Then, we had to ask someone else to bring us those wet naps to clean our hands. She rolled her eyes, and she didn't seem very excited to help us. The food was less than average. We had ribs, 1/2 chicken, and a brisket sandwich. The main course was okay, but the sides were gross! The corn tasted rotten, the cornbread was dry, the fries were average, and the beans were gross! We were not pleased, by then again we are big bbq fans. I'm sad and sorry to say that we will not be back to Sonny's anytime soon. read more

We decided to dine at this Sonny's location today July 4th 2022. We requested a booth and a pleasant hostess honored our request. We ordered sweet tea with lemon. So far so good. Upon reviewing the menu we noticed that it seemed prices had increased since we had been there last. To begin with my wife ordered fried okra ($5.29) which she does every time. Her order consisted of small pieces of many things that looked like just breading and very few whole pieces of actual okra. She commented that it looked like what was left of the bag of frozen okra. Disappointing. Usually a little stick is included for spearing the okra to dip into the included sauce. But no. Her sweet potato used to include a pc of cinnamon butter but now comes with a little pc of margarine and a small ramekin of cinnamon. My large pulled pork sandwich on garlic toast (now it comes in 2 sizes) was fine except that the pork was different than before, not as flavorful and somewhat stringy. As we were finishing, a male manager came by checking on us ( to his credit) but never returned with our request for to go boxes and iced tea to go cups. Our server Betty eventually did return with our requested items. Overall a disappointing visit and we may think twice before returning to any Sonny's. read more

Very bland bbq. I ordered the salad bar + a cut of the jalapeño sausage and some kind of beef stew. I was very disappointed with the salad bar selection and expected a spicy and flavorful sausage. The sausage was pretty bland especially for being jalapeño flavored. The soup was so off-tasting, even a dollop of sour cream didn't help. Sonny's had a middling crowd so no reason for the slow service. The waitress told me the salad bar couldn't be substituted for a side - not even for an up charge. My wife and I ate here at 2:30 on a Thursday and had "lunch portions". Note that lunch portions are definitely small but Ok for a normal person - just don't expect to bring any home with you Meat was fantastic. Had the sliced brisket and sliced turkey. Sauces were all "smokey" and also excellent. Cornbread was excellent. Green beans were pretty bad. Tasted over-cooked. Beans were bland an seasoning was bad. Sweet potato was also pretty terrible. I don't know how it would even be possible, but it tasted "watered down" - like half the flavor had been extracted somehow. Corn on the cob was pretty good. I'm giving 4 stars because you don't go to BBQ for the sides and the meat and sauce were excellent. Also there are a lot of other sides we didn't try. read more

However, the entire experience was overshadowed by the extremely LOUD music playing overhead. We could not carry on a conversation during our meal because we couldn't hear each other. The food and service at this location is always spot on with a few minor exceptions. I have experienced a couple of missteps with the folks doing the seating. I have always had very good service. The servers are very attentive and always pleasant. The ribs, pork sandwiches, and all their sides are excellent. I have a kitchen being remodeled during this thanksgiving week. No sink and no counters. I ordered the thanksgiving smoked Turkey package with 3 sides to feed 10 people. I showed up to pick it a half hour before they opened and they were kind enough to let me in early to pick it up. I requested it cold so I could heat it on thanksgiving day. The turkey had to be four pounds heavier than advertised at 10 to 12 pounds. I followed the instructions and heated everything. Rave reviews from all my guest! I'll add that I am in the restaurant business myself and a retired chef. My family was not happy when I told them I couldn't cook this year. Now I don't think they will remember me over the fantastic food from Sonnys. read more

Brittany's service was on point. She helped me decide to have the all you can eat ribs for $15.99 cause you can swap for various types of meets. I also tried the punch with moonshine in it- I forgot the name but it was yummy!!! I added the salad bar for $3.99 like I wouldn't have enough food to eat and everything was fresh and yummy. The young man stocking it up told me everything is hand made...potato salad, seafood salad, etc..nothing comes out of the cans. So service salad bar 5 stars. Restroom was okay but not as clean as should be and smelling like lemon so 3 stars there. The ribs were okay..not fatty but just lukewarm and kind of dry ...this was for both types..sweet and saucy and dry rub. They were okay but nothing stellar I would give them 2 stars. I was wanting a wing..so Brittney got me a taste of the smoked wings- now there would be my next entree. It was amazing!!! I would go back for that..so overall...3.5 stars and I give the benefit of the doubt if service is great so Brittney scored them 4 stars!! read more
