Note: basic breakfast items are provided, major restaurants and groceries are in Sooke which is 30 mins drive from Shirley, so you can bring your own groceries etc beforehand for convenience, fully equipped kitchen with bbq available.

Waitresses walked by us and even made eye contact but no one took a moment to welcome us or to acknowledge us. The atmosphere was very loud. My husband and I could barely have a conversation. The food looked and tasted delicious however I unfortunately ended up with food poisoning just a few hours later. Was very disappointing from beginning to end of the experience there.

There is a small kitchen that had everything we needed and a cozy livingroom with a beautiful view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. There are Adirondack chairs on the deck and a 4 person hot tub that we enjoyed every day. The picture on the website of this cabin shows different furniture and a pretty fireplace with a mantel. Unfortunately they have a couple worn leather chairs with cracked leather arms and the couch is a hide-a-bed with cushions that were hard to keep in place. They kept working their way out and over the edge of the couch. What I was sad about was they have had to change the fireplace to bring it up to code. Instead of keeping the rustic feel with stone and a pretty mantle, they put up a couple bit shiny pieces of metal and screwed it in. They didn't use long enough screws and it is pulling away from the fireboard behind. It looks like a cheap fix and doesn't fit with the rustic cabin feel. We did enjoy having a fire, however, and they replenished our wood supply, including kindling and paper every day. We were there for a birthday and would have loved to eat at the restaurant there but the menu didn't appeal to us enough to pay the high price of a meal. We loved walking private guest only paths on the property that lead to a beach with a shelter with fireplace and chairs. Another leads over a pretty red bridge that leads to rocks overlooking the wild surf. We were there early May and loved enjoying the flora waking up in the spring. There are a few references to the staff being rude so we decided to tread lightly. Nobody was rude but there was definitely one woman who was curt. The staff in general lacked warmth and were not overly welcoming. But we didn't have any issues that needed addressing. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would go back.

We already knew no wifi/cell service but don't care! We went to be off grid and reset. The weather cooperated with our plan by raining steadily and mama nature treated us with some gorgeous powerful waves to watch from the hottub on our deck. We used up our firewood and utilized our kitchen with some pre-made entrees from Hob Fine Foods-so barely cooked! Love it there so much we decided on a week next time.

We booked 3 cottages at Chito Beach Resort in Sekiu, Washington. My brother and his wife stayed in The Birdhouse (whose deck officially became our favorite hangout spot) We spent many memorable hours there, enjoying the ever changing views of the sea, wildlife, and spectacular sunsets. My sister stayed in The Wolf Den. I stayed in the cottage adjacent to hers, The Lighthouse.  I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the Lighthouse Cottage. The bed was soooo comfy. Water pressure was great. So much attention was paid to every charming little detail. Nothing was overlooked.  And that view!  On Saturday night the owners, Tamara and Matt had a little get together around the bonfire with all of the guests at Chito Beach. (There are a total of 6 cottages) They were wonderful and gracious hosts who served us beverages and DELICIOUS appetizers. They made us feel very welcome there.  After I got back home, I sorted through the MANY photos that I'd taken, and decided which ones to post on Facebook.  As gorgeous as some of them are, I think some of the pictures of the sunsets at Chito Beach are even more stunning than my photos of the Cape.  Especially on our last night there. Truly magical and almost otherworldly Our time there was an experience that our family will treasure forever.

If you want to stay in what my husband and I can only describe as the most peaceful, beautiful, spiritual and breath taking view, we highly encourage you to visit the Quillayute River Resort. We fell in love with our room at the end of the inn. Then we met the Keen's and engaged in conversation with the sweetest kindest people you ever want to know. We finally sold our lake property in Sequim, WA and moved to Europe for retirement. These cabins and resort are perfect for quiet getaway from the cities hustle and bustle. Pure Heaven. Loved the people, the ease to walk out of cabin straight to beach, starry nights and the smell of the huge cedars. The sunsets are amazing, the birds are beauty singing every morning. I will be back every year. In fact sooner than a year if I can find vacancy. The staff was wonderful. We accidently left somethings and were contacted immediately to pick them up. Thank goodness we were still on the island. Thanks Beach Haven for the rest.

Check-in was done at the lobby. At the lobby one will also find a store and a coffee shop. Complimentary movies and games can also be checked out at the lobby to enjoy back at your lodging. The store offers a little bit of everything, from clothing to snacks. Complimentary ice machines are available. Bagged ice can be purchased though. Lower-level parking is limited and was completely full in the evenings. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot every time we returned from playing. Wheel barrel type carts located at the gate make transporting luggage effortless to rooms. Adirondack chairs are scattered about the edge of the property to enjoy sipping a beverage, reading or admiring the view. A fire-pit, community BBQ, picnic area and kids play area help pass the time while on-site. The paly area is at the lobby end for those who do not wish to have quarters near noise. The cabin we were given was number 10, a handicap unit. The very first cabin upon entrance and the furthest from the lobby and play area. Our cabin was clean and well equipped. Snug Harbor provided us the peace that we were seeking at the time. My one suggestion would be to offer fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby to establish a more personal touch.
