I had been looking forward to trying Sorate after seeing it all over social media and finally got to stop by the SoHo location. This is a small tea shop located on Sullivan street. They have a few seats along the bar inside and a bench outside. Both employees were very kind. One of them took my order and explained some of the items on the menu, and the other prepared the drinks. This was one of the best matchas I've had in a while and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a good quality matcha. They even sell their matcha powders in store which is great.

Sorate was an amazing experience. If you are a Matcha lover please do visit. It was a small place with bar seating so if you get a seat at the bar that's great. It's well maintained and clean. They have a few matcha options and I enjoyed my option and the cookies. They service was great and staff were really friendly. I also ordered the Genmaicha green tea to go. It is very authentic green tea so please prepare your taste buds. lol. I would return.

Honestly a bit disappointed because I've been so excited to try the matcha at sorate. They had a seasonal special called the Sakura matcha latte which was cherry blossom flavored. Was a bit disappointed with the presentation of this one because we thought we would be able to see a pink cold foam as advertised. But as you can see in the pictures, all the lattes looked the same. Taste wise, this was floral and a bit sweet. The floral taste overpowered the matcha and it really tasted more like a rose milk drink. Would give that drink a 4/10. I got the iced matcha with whole milk and was genuinely so sad. It tasted creamy but barely of matcha. I prefer stronger lattes so this was almost like drinking plain milk. Would give it a 3.5/10. I would like to go back to see if this was a one off experience since I've heard wonderful things about nutty earthy taste of the matcha here. About the place, it's a small cute shop but not much place to sit. The service was quick, no complaints there :)

Small store with limited seats. You can see the process of making the tea from the window. Staff is friendly and helpful in making the decision to pick the matcha. I picked the premium matcha, which is the most expensive but it's worth it. Just matcha in water, no frills, no sugar served in a small sturdy bowl . It's smooth and not bitter, vibrant color. You can feel the Japanese ambiance

Very small storefront in SoHo - there are only 4 seats if you want to dine in. I got the hojicha latte and it was perfectly nutty and aromatic. The service was quite fast and the staff were friendly. I saw lots of people come in and out for takeout drinks too- so that'll definitely be an option for me in the future! that's all from me ty :^)

I came here as I was in the neighborhood and wanted a matcha. I've had this place bookmarked for a while, and finally got the chance to check it out. The space itself is tiny and narrow with only a few bar seats, and no other real places to stand around. It is definitely more of a takeaway spot. They have a pretty extensive menu of matcha and other drinks and some pastries and sweets to choose from. I wanted to try the matcha hot chocolate, but they had run out of it, so I went with a regular matcha instead. The server at the counter was a bit brisk and the woman who made my matcha was very nice. The matcha was delicious and I would definitely come back here again!

It was yummy. I appreciate the customizability of this place. They had multiple different sweetener options (agave, honey, and maple) which I feel like you don't see at too many matcha places. They charged $1.25 for oat milk that made me so sad. This place was TINY though. The store is basically laid out in a skinny hallway. They have 4 seats in the back along the "bar."

Sadly disappointed. I heard so many good things about this place but when I went my experience was nothing like what I heard about. The person making matcha didn't smile at all the whole time and looked unhappy to be there. It's very small and cramped in the store and we watched him make our drinks and he didn't even sift the matcha! We paid so much for high quality matcha and then had the most grainy, watery, not good tasting drinks. We also got a hojicha which had the same problem and tasted like it had absolutely 0 sweetener which was undrinkable. Should have probably asked for more sweetener to be added but it wouldn't have solved the graininess or watery taste. We couldn't take more than a couple sips of our three drinks without tossing it. Would never recommend or go back unless they improved their process or had friendlier service. Guess we got unlucky. It does look nice inside.

I got a Soku Superior Matcha with whole milk and agave and it was nothing special. It's definitely something you can make at home. But I have to say the space inside was aesthetic and authentic

A high quality matcha/hojicha spot with zen like vibe tucked in a small shop in the west village. Service was fast and friendly. There are a few high chairs for staying in but I feel like this place is more for to-go. They make each order on site and you can see the process. Would recommend!

got the soku superior matcha with oat milk, and I have to say it was delicious. it's hand-picked and was quite creamy and earthy. however it was also $11.16 after tax which is a bit too steep for a regular daily drink

I ordered an iced matcha latte and a wagashi, and with tip it came out to about $21, which honestly feels a bit wild for such a small order. That said, the matcha was excellent! smooth, rich, and clearly high quality. I also really love the calm, minimal vibe of the space. Price aside, it's still my number one matcha spot in SoHo.

I had a wonderful experience at Sorate! There was a seat available at the bar so I was able to sit in for an hour or so. I ordered a round of the petit cookies and the iced matcha latte. I had to the option to add honey or agave and chose agave. The matcha was not bitter at all, smooth, had the smallest amount of sweetness and was such a neat experience. This is how matcha should taste like. Thank goodness for the cold because I found my absolute fav tea after being here. I ordered a genmaicha tea (hot) also with agave. It was INCREDIBLE. The aroma is nutty and at first sniff it may not be everyone's cup of tea. But man when I tell you it was the richest green tea in the best way possible. I wanted to walk out with a few grams to make at home. You're able to get 3 rounds of the tea in total which is nice given the price. I came solo which really helped seating wise because I think it makes the experience 10x better. I would recommend this location to anyone wanting to try quality matcha, need something in cold or looking to try something new. There's also a Flatiron location too!

Do they serve matcha in glass cups as well?

Not anymore, the production process has changed, and they started to sell already packaged gelato in a paper cup with lid.

And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! FYI - there are two unisex restrooms in the rear for customers to use with really cute wallpapers too.

We ordered potted rose milk tea to share, Dubai affogato and Brown Sugar Boba Mille Crêpes Cake. We came on a Friday around 4pm. Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.

The cafe is right on the front corner of Korea Way, making it easy to add to my route. The interior is a very modern and a little cold, so it doesn't seem like the sort of place that beckons you in and asks you to stay a while. However, the cafe is incredibly spacious and had ample seating around mid-day. There are three kiosks to order from at the front of the shop where you can easily browse the menu and edit your order. I opted for an iced, unsweetened matcha latte. After placing your order, you receive a number and wait for it to pick it up at the counter. After a few minutes, my order was ready. The latte was great without any sweetener, really letting the flavor of the matcha shine through. Although I'm no expert, the flavor, color, and consistency of the matcha all indicated to me that it was made with a good quality powder. It seems Nana's specializes in green tea, so I'd totally stop here for a more authentic experience than getting matcha from places that focus on coffee or are simply trendy matcha spots. Aside from lattes, there are many parfait and soft serve options with a matcha or hojicha bases, so hopefully I'll have the opportunity to come back and try their other offerings!

We got cold hojicha latte with oat milk and matcha mochi parfait with matcha basque, red beans paste and matcha ice cream. I can taste the roasted tea, it is light yet nutty, mellow yet slightly smokey. It tastes refreshing after a brisk walk to quench the thirst. The portion of the parfait was a bit bigger than I thought. There were some cereal pieces in the middle layer so it gave our taste buds a break from the sweetness. The matcha basque was tough to bite on, not sure if it is supposed to be like that. There were also matcha jelly pieces toward the bottom of the parfait. My friend ordered coffee latte and she said it was one of the good ones she had (she is from another country, came here to visit). I recommend to share the parfait if you don't want to get sweetness overload or if you are not a big eater! There is a restroom for customers to use, however, you need to enter a code to enter. The code is on the receipt.
