The best matcha ever. Literally no other words, just perfection. Ambiance is beautiful, if in nyc I recommend making the time to visit Sorate.
Was there to buy matcha powder, they all were sold out. So got myself a yuzu matcha. Refreshing I believe they have a matcha tasting inside. They also have some sweets you can have with your matcha beverages. There's a bench outside to sit while enjoying your drinks.
I got the iced matcha latte here, with a $2 upgrade for superior matcha, and asked for it to be sweetened. The matcha latte was smooth and delicious, and it was sweetened to the perfect degree. The interior of the store is on the smaller end with only three chairs at the counter, but it was decorated to be very calm and peaceful, a perfect place to go in the morning before the rush of work. This might be my favorite matcha latte yet in NY!
I had been looking forward to trying Sorate after seeing it all over social media and finally got to stop by the SoHo location. This is a small tea shop located on Sullivan street. They have a few seats along the bar inside and a bench outside. Both employees were very kind. One of them took my order and explained some of the items on the menu, and the other prepared the drinks. This was one of the best matchas I've had in a while and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a good quality matcha. They even sell their matcha powders in store which is great.
I was unimpressed for a couple of reasons. The space is super tiny, in particular, it is very narrow. Upon entering you order and then head to the back but then to get out of the store is hard because you have to get past those ordering. Got the matcha latte with oat and an extra shot...it was $15 which is super high. I do think the matcha itself is of high quality but not worth it. I really liked the paper cups and the biodegradable lids. If you don't want a drink, they have some desserts, including ice cream.
I would recommend Sorate to matcha enthusiasts and connoisseurs! I enjoy matcha very casually and I think Im not the person that can appreciate the quality and simplicity of this matcha, haha! I do love strong tea flavors and did enjoy that this matcha was very earthy and strong, though I found drinking it to be dry or granular on the tongue. Maybe I can blame my bf for ordering it unsweetened. Watching them make the latte was a fun experience and the interior is very minimalistic and calming.
Sorate was an amazing experience. If you are a Matcha lover please do visit. It was a small place with bar seating so if you get a seat at the bar that's great. It's well maintained and clean. They have a few matcha options and I enjoyed my option and the cookies. They service was great and staff were really friendly. I also ordered the Genmaicha green tea to go. It is very authentic green tea so please prepare your taste buds. lol. I would return.
Honestly a bit disappointed because I've been so excited to try the matcha at sorate. They had a seasonal special called the Sakura matcha latte which was cherry blossom flavored. Was a bit disappointed with the presentation of this one because we thought we would be able to see a pink cold foam as advertised. But as you can see in the pictures, all the lattes looked the same. Taste wise, this was floral and a bit sweet. The floral taste overpowered the matcha and it really tasted more like a rose milk drink. Would give that drink a 4/10. I got the iced matcha with whole milk and was genuinely so sad. It tasted creamy but barely of matcha. I prefer stronger lattes so this was almost like drinking plain milk. Would give it a 3.5/10. I would like to go back to see if this was a one off experience since I've heard wonderful things about nutty earthy taste of the matcha here. About the place, it's a small cute shop but not much place to sit. The service was quick, no complaints there :)
There was a long line and my hojicha latte took a lot longer than expected, but they were very communicative about it and gave me the matcha tiramisu bite on the house (which was shockingly good). Both their drinks and service were excellent and I'd definitely return.
Small store with limited seats. You can see the process of making the tea from the window. Staff is friendly and helpful in making the decision to pick the matcha. I picked the premium matcha, which is the most expensive but it's worth it. Just matcha in water, no frills, no sugar served in a small sturdy bowl . It's smooth and not bitter, vibrant color. Very small storefront in SoHo - there are only 4 seats if you want to dine in. I got the hojicha latte and it was perfectly nutty and aromatic. The service was quite fast and the staff were friendly. I saw lots of people come in and out for takeout drinks too- so that'll definitely be an option for me in the future! that's all from me ty :^)
I came here as I was in the neighborhood and wanted a matcha. I've had this place bookmarked for a while, and finally got the chance to check it out. The space itself is tiny and narrow with only a few bar seats, and no other real places to stand around. It is definitely more of a takeaway spot. They have a pretty extensive menu of matcha and other drinks and some pastries and sweets to choose from. I wanted to try the matcha hot chocolate, but they had run out of it, so I went with a regular matcha instead. The server at the counter was a bit brisk and the woman who made my matcha was very nice. The matcha was delicious and I would definitely come back here again!
It was yummy. I appreciate the customizability of this place. They had multiple different sweetener options (agave, honey, and maple) which I feel like you don't see at too many matcha places. They charged $1.25 for oat milk that made me so sad. This place was TINY though. The store is basically laid out in a skinny hallway. They have 4 seats in the back along the "bar."
DRINKS We ordered the Soku matcha latte without sweetener. While the drink was enjoyable, I didn't find it worth the price. That said, watching the staff prepare and serve the matcha was the highlight, and the ambient music inside the store added to the overall experience. The atmosphere stood out more than the beverage itself. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly. AMBIANCE There is limited seating (about 5 chairs) inside the store that is occasionally reserved for an event, etc. and therefore not open to guests. However, there is seating available under umbrellas outside the store. PARKING Street parking is available at a limited capacity. read more
Finally got to try this cute speciality matcha shop on a busy Saturday afternoon. I ordered the matcha latte with oat milk & the matcha wagashi. The matcha latte was up to its expectations however it felt like it was slightly watered down with some minor clumps of powder. Despite that, the drink itself was smooth and nutty. It was very good even when it wasn't unsweetened. The matcha wagashi was quite delightful & a wonderful snack to pair w the drink. The staff is also very pleasant & accommodating. I'm intrigued to try their ice cream as it sounds refreshing on a hot summer day. read more
I must admit this is one of the best matchas I have ever had in a cafe. even as a person that has been to Japan and lives in LA, I still think about this matcha latte and wait for the next time I can visit. we did not have to wait mid-morning on a weekday, so I cannot speak to the wait on a weekend and if it is worth it. not really a lot of space to hang out. fun to watch the baristas (tea-ristas?) make your matcha! read more
Overall decent, but the price and wait time did not make me think it was worth it. The shop was extremely tiny and wait times were long, even after ordering. As for the matcha, I got their house matcha. It was good but not great. It felt like their matcha latte was somewhat watered down in a way where the matcha didn't taste all that strong. Had one of the nicest matcha experiences in NYC at this spot. They focus on traditional matcha, and you can really tell they care about quality and process. I originally wanted to try their Soku, which is the most popular, but it was sold out--so I went with the Superior, and it still absolutely delivered. The flavor was rich, earthy, and smooth, with that classic matcha bitterness that isn't masked by sugar or syrups. Just clean, premium matcha at its best. Heads up--the store is very small, and the line can get pretty long, especially on weekends or during peak hours. Definitely worth the wait though if you're a true matcha fan. if you're ready to have a real tea and matcha experience- make your way to Sorate. I went on a rainy day and got lucky that there was a quick 5 min wait to get seated at the bar. It is a very small space and it can get crowded quickly, and I'm sure that would have changed my experience. We got the Soku and Hojicha - the Soku was earthy, fresh, and full-bodied. it wasn't bitter and getting it straight without the latte allowed the leaves to shine even more. The Hojicha was definitely more bitter, and an acquired taste for sure, would come back to indulge in that. We also got some sweets and it was a fun bite. They also have matcha and tools to take home and make your own! read more
Sorate has some of the better matcha lattes that I've had in Manhattan. It is on the pricier side, but the quality of the matcha was good. I opted for the maple syrup sweetener and the basic matcha latte and I was satisfied. Service was quick and ambiance was cute and quaint. The place is small though, so expect to have a bit of a wait. The shop is a cozy space with bar seating inside and outdoor seating outside the shop; their house matcha had a slight bitterness to it, but was very smooth and not too rich, and the hojicha had a nice toasty nutty flavor profile. Had Hojicha and match latte. Delicious. But I don't really have a good standard of what good matcha latte is. So I am just gonna say, drinks are refreshing. Had all the small bite. Each is $5. Pricy. But all are delicious. We love all the bites. We will come back to try the gelato! read more

I had high expectations for Sorate since I love matcha. I walked into the shop and was surprised by how small the shop was- there was just enough space for like 5-6 people to squeeze in, but it was really cute still. I got the soku iced matcha which was $1 extra with whole milk and maple syrup. The drink was super smooth and the maple syrup added just the right amount of sweetness! Will definitely come back whenever I'm in NYC. read more
Probably the BEST hot matcha latte I've had in a while! I ordered a hot matcha latte with Kusui, which is the highest grade matcha there. It was strong and really creamy. Adding honey helped balance the savoriness. It was the perfect drink for a cold rainy day in NYC. I also tried the Hojicha Tiramisu and it was delightful. The Hojicha filling was roasty, nutty, and had a creamy texture. The crust was thin and crunchy. I want to try more of their drinks and little bites the next time I visit! read more
As a matcha lover, I take my matcha very seriously. I ordered a matcha latte w whole milk and sweetened with maple syrup. To me personally, there wasn't not a strong matcha flavor and I could only taste sweetened milk. I wish there was a stronger matcha flavor in general, rather than just tasting like sweet milk. As a matcha lover, this was a must go for some high quality ceremonial grade matcha. I came on a Wednesday afternoon and there was no line. I ordered their house matcha latte, iced, and sweetened with agave. The girl making my drink ladled some water into the sifted matcha and whisked away before adding it into my cup of milk and ice. I liked how each drink is hand whisked unlike most places who batch their matcha. The matcha was so vibrantly green with a nice earthiness and nuttiness. You can really taste the matcha and you could tell it's good quality. Honestly my favorite matcha latte in nyc right now! I will def be back! read more
One of the best iced matcha's I've ever had both across LA and NY. There was a line out the door, but I can honestly say it was worth it. The matcha had the perfect consistency, color, and taste. It was something you savored, and not chugged. I highly recommend using a straw (unpopular opinion), as the paper taste of cup interferes with the taste of the matcha. A must go-to for any matcha lovers. read more
I've heard good things about this place from my dear friend in the east coast! Apparently Sorate is her fav place in NYC to get matcha lattes. I do appreciate how green the match is, but I wish it was a little bit sweeter! Overall, the cafe was decorated nicely but it could get cramped inside (especially when it's raining)! read more

Ordered an assortment of desserts to try; Matcha Latte Kusui Iced whole milk maple syrup, hojicha gelato, and a black sesame gelato.The Matcha Latte is a great choice if you're undecided, it sets a great example of that they have to offer. The matcha here is made well, not overly strong nor light. The gelatos were very pleasant with strong notes of hojicha and black sesame in each. I had a personal preference toward the black sesame. There is a line at peak afternoon hours that can be over 20 minutes long. There is very limited indoor seating so it's definitely advised to keep your hangout elsewhere so there is more room for people to wait for orders. There is also a short outdoor seating area on the street. Staff here are very professional and methodical in preparation of the food. The interior has very simple delicate displays of their desserts and matcha. read more
Good service very handmade drink. There was no wait when we came in so we got our drinks immediately which are made one by one. The storefront is really small and there's only about four seats. They're not sweetened and might look at you weird if you ask for more. I didn't love my drink but I might've just ordered the wrong thing. Me and my three friends didn't like our drinks. I came on a Tuesday morning and there was no wait at all. They unfortunately did not have any of their premium matches available but I was able to try their house matcha. A STELLAR tea experience in everything from ambiance to decor to staff to taste and quality!!!!! Wow just wow. We ordered the premium matcha and it came in two beautiful chawan so pretty I almost cried. Amazing staff very attentive and friendly and the dessert we got to try was amazing. Went on a Tuesday around noon and not much of a wait time. Limited seating area inside (5 seats) but couple seats outside too. They usually have a line out the door on weekends. I got the matcha for here and was served with a glass cup :)) I got an iced matcha latte shibui superior with honey sweetener and whole milk. It was on the stronger side, but nonetheless very enjoyable. read more
Came here for the hot hojicha, which was pretty good. You can choose what type of sweetener you like for example maple syrup, honey, etc. There was a long line even on a random weekday early afternoon, so be prepared to wait. There's very minimal seating inside - only about 4 spots so don't really expect any seating if you do go. Inside, they have a great woody tea house vibe. read more

I stumbled upon Sorate one day and was excited to find out they serve gelato now. It has three flavors: matcha, hojicha and black sesame. You can choose two to three flavors for your cup. I have tried their matcha shot before and was pleasantly surprised by how premium their matcha taste like. It topped over other japanese teahouse in NYC given how delicate their drinks are. We all know how rare it is to find good hojicha ice cream in NYC. I was impressed by the richness and the intense roasted notes of the hojicha scoop. While for the matcha side, it was more earthy than sweet. $13 after tax is reasonable given that you can taste authentic and rich tea flavored gelato without paying for flight ticket to Japan lol (girl's math). Give their gelato a try before it is gone for the season. read more

Was very excited to try this place , seen it pop up a few times and it looked amazing. Today I went in to try it but was very dissatisfied and disappointed . My drink just taste very watery even though I asked for light ice. Maybe I just got a bad drink. Was really looking forward to it. read more

Solid matcha spot in SoHo! I found this through social media and so likes were quite busy and the shop is small so just be aware you may have to wait outside as to not crowd the place. The workers were very diligent and concentrated in making the drinks. Amazing service with great decor, delicious drinks and gelato! We got the HEKISHO 碧霄 - House Matcha latte and Hojicha latte (both iced, with whole milk and agave). The matcha is very light, a hint of umami and bitterness at the end, could use a bit more sweetener. The hojicha is aromatic, smoky, and nutty, could also use a bit more sweetener. I think I would get oat milk next time just see if there's a difference plus I don't have to take a lactaid pill for it iykyk. We also got the 3 scoops gelato set, since they were out of yuzu, we opt'd for 2 matcha and 1 hojicha. Matcha flavor is on the mild side, creamy, and vibrant green. The hojicha one is my favorite, not chalky or grainy and very creamy. Would have to return soon to try their other 2 tiers of matcha to make the final judgement of their matcha. read more

I was really excited to try this place after seeing it on social media but ended up being disappointed. I ordered the Soku matcha latte and it tasted very grassy with an aftertaste of like I just ate pancakes because their only sweetener is maple syrup. I wish they offered simple syrup instead. There was a long line and the workers there don't look like they enjoy their jobs. You can't even hear your number be called when waiting outside cause the workers don't have a loud voice. This place is overhyped and I won't be coming back. Go to Kettl instead. read more
