Without even needing to stop and think he knew my appliances inside and out, and was able to offer the lowest cost repair. He has always been very trustworthy, straightforward, and fair. My maytag dryer stopped working, and when we looked up the code it said we needed a main control board. To be sure we called around. Sos told us that sometimes that code can mean a simpler problem, so we made an appointment. When he got to my house he looked up the code on his cell phone (as did I) he said the code ment we needed a new drain hose....for a dryer. We reminded him that the unit was a DRYER not a washer. He then told us what we told him before he came out, it needed a new control board. He did not look at the dryer, he only looked at his phone, using the dryer to prop his elbow on so he could hold his head up while he did it. Never pushed a botton, never used a tool, never opened the dryer door, nothing! He then told me that the part would take weeks to get in, and it would cost hundreds. That I should just get a new dryer, he also added that I shouldn't worry about it matching my washer because he was sure my guests were not going to see them and nobody cares if they match. Total time spent in my house was no more than 10 minutes, he literally did nothing and charged me $70 for the service call. That same day I ordered the part and had it overnighted, total cost $144.84. I installed the part myself in 15 minutes and my dryer works! read more

I've been using them for over 13 years with excellent service. John has now retired and his son Dan has now taken over the business. I had an emergency on Friday and had to call them twice because they had not called me back.. Fast forward to later in the day "bad news.. refrigerator can't be fixed, but I have a guy that has freon and that should solve the problem.. He'll call you when he's on his way.. Unfortunately i didn't get that repair person's phone number and he never showed up... I called Dan between 3-5 with NO response.. Now looking for a new repair service. The freon guy shows up now and showed me when he got my information.. I was told they sent it on Friday but the text shows this morning at 7.... I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!!! Do not use this company first thing tech said is he hates to work on our type of refrigerator. Then he went on to say if it's anything other than a relay we would have to call someone else. Would be nice that they disclose this on the front end so I wouldn't have to pay a service call charge on 2 companies instead of one. Owner/ Operator Dan Mesna, responded very promptly to repair our Dryer which was making bad noises. He was professional and knowledgeable regarding our LG Dryer. He turned it on diagnosed the problem in a matter of minutes. He made a list of the needed parts secured the parts at a local parts warehouse. He gave us a reasonable estimate for repair, came back the next day disassembled the Dryer in just a few minutes, replaced the broken parts had it reassembled and working perfectly in less than 20 minutes. My wife and I are very happy with his work. He gave us a years warranty on the parts he replaced. We recommend him and will use him again. read more

Dan took over the business from his dad John 5 or 6 years ago. John was great; Dan not so much. I scheduled Dan for an 8 am service call. He called me the afternoon before and cancelled due to "family emergency". I had done some research and Dan had confirmed the most likely problem during an earlier conversation so I ordered the part. A few days later, I spoke with Dan and scheduled him for 8 am the day after the part was due to arrive. At 7:27 I received the following text: "Hey this is dan from sos I'm stuck in a accident and traffic is not moving. I'm not going to make to are scheduled time. So we need to reschedule for this afternoon or Monday or you can call someone else. The call is yours. Let me know thanks". So I immediately called Dan. No answer. So I texted asking for the soonest available time to reschedule. No reply. So I looked at the map to see the problem with the less than 30 minute drive and all the lines were green. I reluctantly gave Dan the benefit of the doubt on the first cancellation but the fake stuck in traffic and then not responding is inexcusable. I do not recommend Dan / SOS read more

Can I give 6 stars ? I was so impressed with SOS and owner John ! He was at my house the next morning , right on time! We were about to purchase a brand new refrigerator for $1200, but , we decided to give them a try because he came so highly recommended .... We asked him to let us know if it was fixable and/ or needed to be replaced... He actually troubleshot the problem over the phone and gave me an estimate of $110. 00 , which included his $70 visit... Much to my amazement, he had the necessary part in his truck and the problem was solved and it only cost us $110 total, refrigerator and freezer working great... He was very punctual, clean and honest ! I would definitely recommend SOS Appliance ! read more

We were sure we were going to have to buy a new refrigerator. My husband called SOS after reading the other Yelp reviews. John and his son came out and diagnosed the problem. They had to order the part and were able to get it and come back the next day. Our house is not easy to get to, but John only charged us for the part and a single service charge, even though he had to come out twice. John and his son were prompt, courteous, and friendly. We will definitely call SOS if we need repairs on any of our other appliances. read more

Wow.... these guys came recommended, but this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had. They showed up and took $203.18 for a new part they had to order plus $60 for the service call. While they said it might take a few weeks for the part to come in, they would not return a single call of the many we made (about 6) to inquire as the weeks wore on (actually, they returned one call to say they'd check, but never followed up). My wife spoke to a "Danny" who said he'd look into it each time and have someone call back, but we never got a single reply. I had to fake a call as a potential new customer to get them to call me back...............which they did on Monday (apparently looking for a new victim) Then, a "Danny" called me back.......I was told, "oh yes, the part will be in Wednesday afternoon and the "technician will pick it up." We scheduled an install for Thursday Morning. then for some reason, he called me again on Tuesday to tell me he confirmed the part was already in and the technician had already picked it up...and that we were still on for Thursday morning. Now, the Thursday morning appointment has come and gone, and Danny called my wife to ask what part we needed , what brand refrigerator was, and that he'd have to check to see if his technician had the part....... and he said he'd call back, ha ha.. Well he didn't call back. So I called him back and he didn't know anything about the part, if it was in, where the technician was, etc etc. and that he'd check and see and call back.......... he did acknowledge that they we had a Thursday morning appointment. I'm not trying to slam anyone here, but I don't think I've ever experienced a more bizarre situation. For anyone who's interested, I'll keep you posted as to whether our fridge is ever prepared or if were out the total of $297.92 (part, tax, service call)............... I guess all I can say is caveat emptor (buyer beware). read more

John is no longer at SOS Appliance. His son Dan Mesna has taken over his father's once honest appliance repair company. He came out to our home last week, opened our refrigerator door, stuck his head in it for 5 seconds. Told us we needed a new circuit board... Then proceeded to tell us for 15 minutes what an honest repair man he was. He put the part in, said you're all set, working great. The refrigerator never got cold. Last thing he said to us on the way out the door with our $318.00, was, "Any problems give me a call I'll be right up." That was 5 days ago. We've called him numerous times on all his numbers, and emailed him. He has refused to call us back, cashed our check, and stole our money. We just had a real "Honest" repair man look at our refrigerator. He said Dan Mesna misdiagnosed our refrigerator. It was the fan that was out not the circuit board. He also told us he has heard terrible things about this Dan Mesna. People make mistakes. This is not that. Shame on you Dan Mesna. We will be filling a report with the BBB. P.S. We still haven't had our issue resolved with SOS and he will not call us back to resolve it. Since he didn't have a stated return policy he has to return parts he sold us (CA Law). We are involving the appropriate state bureaus and have spoken with an attorney friend on how to get a refund. This has been going on now for over 6 months, talk about a poor customer experience. I'd still be happy to work this out with the owner but he disappeared the second we asked for a refund. read more

These guys really came through. I called SOS when my tenant complained the dishwasher wasn't draining. I wasn't sure if I needed a new dishwasher or if it could be fixed. John showed up on time, was able to get the dishwasher working, but also found problems with the line. He "claims" he was late or something so comped me the visit. No charge. Pretty nice! A few weeks later I ordered a new dishwasher and install from Home D. When HD installers called to say they couldn't install it because it required hardwiring, I called SO. John showed up and installed it (hardwire and all), repaired old lines and hauled the old one away. All for LESS than what Home Depot charges. I called SOS about a error on my washer F1. Which from I read on the internet is a common problem. He said he would come out for $70. and repair. Plus any parts needed. He knew what the error was before he came out. He came out stood in front of my washer and said yep you have a f1 error alright. You will need a whole new panel. Didn't even open his tool box once. I showed him a video on utube where someone opened up back and repaired. He didnt even try it. Charged me the full $70, which I think was way too much considering what he did. I think $70. bucks for not even attempting was a rip off. Needless to say I won't be calling him again. After reading the previous post from the woman in Colfax below me, I'm now wondering if this guy is even a repair man at all. Will be calling BBB. read more

SOS has recently been sold to a new owner. It is not the same business that it has been over the years. I had a microwave and dishwasher installed by the new owner, Dan. I am disappointed in Dan's communication. It took several phone calls to get an appointment set up. Since then I have had a problem and cannot seem to make contact. read more

My ancient dryer began to sound like a jet plane. I thought about buying new, used, and finally called SOS. Dan, son of SOS (John) came right out, knew what was wrong, got the part from Sacramento and had the dyrer running within a couple of hours. Same great service John gave me ten plus years ago. The fruit doesn't far from the tree. Call Dan before you replace. Older appliances are better than the new ones. And the repair was an extensive replacement, cheaper than a used dryer, and the service call was reasonable. read more
