TOO SALTY! Went in for my first time and ordered wings, mac and cheese and collard greens. They changed their hours and now closed at 6pm on a Friday. Arrived at 5:45 and felt like id better hurry and order. When I ordered my food, the cashier/helper was annoyed that I can in so late and rolled her eyes and said "what you want"? When I got home I couldn't even eat. Then food was soooooo salty! I threw it out. Went to the store and made my own fried chicken. My fried chicken was much better. I wont be returning. This was not pot roast. It was bits of meat swimming in liquid like a soup. I picked this up as a carry out and paid. Opened up at counter and asked for a manager for refund or exchange for another item. I was refused by cashier who said she is the manager. All sales final. Showed it to her and she still refused. Tried Soul Central for the first time today - I was very impressed with both the taste of the food and also the customer service received from Chef David. I read from a previous review that Chef David is the same chef who cooked at Lola's and I was already a huge Lola's fan before they closed so I knew I would not be disappointed. It is a great place for some grab and go soul food! Seasoned just right. I am sure Chef David will eventually know me by name in no time as I plan on eating here at least once a week! Tonight I have to work late and decided to actually pay for delivery. I've never eaten at Soul Central and their menu looked delicious. Bottom line, I should have just got dressed and drove myself to get a burger. I can't even eat this. The "macaroni & cheese" is the wateriest, greasiest, mushiest, pile of carbs, which is unfortunate. I eat just about anything in pasta form but I couldn't get to bite two. The yams have no flavor unless sweet counts. Your bite is either sweet or not but there's no flavor letting me know these are yams if I couldn't see them. BUT THIS. The collard greens are dry or whatever but there is sand or some grainy texture in them. To bring that little bonus ingredient to the next level, I found what I think could be glass in them. Now, I could be wrong. It's very small and a little larger than a grain of salt. However, the way I found it is that I cannot chew it and it cut me...it also looks like glass. I would call instead of leaving a review giving them a chance to redeem themselves since people seem to like this place, but they're closed. Went in today for a late lunch - hadn't been here in quite awhile. What a difference. Looks like they changed ownership. What a shame. Miss the prior owners from Trinidad. New customer service left much to be desired. They had 2 or 3 signs that said No Mask, No Service. Yet, none of the workers had on masks. One put one on just before taking our order. Another customer was in there and had his mask under his chin. When I asked the worker about that (after all they had two signs with No Mask, No Service in big letters) she rolled her eyes, asked the man to pull up his mask because I was bothered by it. We arrived at Soul Central at 7:20pm on a Wednesday. Per the sign on the door they closed at 8pm. There was someone in line in front of us that ordered and she got her food and left. Then we wanted the fried chicken and fried fish platters, but we were told they close at 8 so the fryers are being shut down??? So they close in 30+ minutes but yet we can't order food. So my 1 star isn't for the food because we never got any, but for the service or lack of....I could understand if was 5 mins to closing but they where still really opened. read more

Was excited to try this place based on reviews. I made sure to wait till Wednesday when they had the pot roast, however by the time my fiancé got there to order my food they were out. Was disappointed but I told him to get me the fried chicken and meatloaf. The chicken was really good but the meatloaf was just ok. I also tried the Mac and cheese, and the dressing. The Mac and cheese was pretty good but the dressing wasn't that good. Wanted to try the dirty rice but they were out of that too. My meal came with cornbread which was ok but I'm not really a cornbread gal. (I prefer rolls). Overall, some of the food was good, some not so much.
