Not using my real name for privacy reasons During my time at Soulfire, I made lifelong friendships that continued to prosper after I stepped away from the studio. However, the relationships I formed with the instructors were vastly different from those I had made with my peers. My main ballet instructor was a perfectionist and expected everyone to live up to her standards. While it's important to be self-aware during a ballet class, the corrections I received were sometimes unhelpful and repetitive with no further feedback or details as to what she wanted me to fix. In addition to this, she would often bring her small dog into the studio. He was a distraction and a danger. He caused various injuries to those dancing. While small, my classmates and I should not have had to deal with that. The dog would also pee on the floor in the studio which took around 10-15 minutes out of our class time so that the instructor could clean the floor. This was unfair to us because we had paid for class and were not getting the value in the price we had paid. In my acro classes, the instructor would often bring her own children into the dance studio to supposedly watch the class. But, because the children were so young, they were a complete distraction to the rest of the class as well as a hazard to those dancing. They would repeatedly run around the room and get in the way of those attempting the tricks we had been working on and they often required great amounts of attention from the instructor. The studio was also unable to keep instructors for long period of time. In the span of two years, I had four different instructors for my modern class. Sometimes, the class would be cancelled or combined with a lower level class because there was simply nobody to teach it. Many instructors left the studio due to the lack of respect and pay they were receiving. The studio would also hire the dancers who were 15+ to teach younger classes. These dancers were not fully compensated for their work and some were not paid at all. The studio was also so understaffed that the students would often have to set up the tea parties, birthday parties, or other special events that were happening at the studio. While it is important to help out, these set-ups would take place during our class time which we had paid for. The studio required that everyone in the ballet program joined the "company" when they reached a certain level. This entailed dancing for 6+ hours on Saturdays with minimal breaks. Also, every company member was required to compete in at least 3 competitions every year or risk being released from the company, therefore no longer being able to do ballet at a higher level. These competitions were very financially difficult and embarrassing to the dancers. The level of the ensembles that were entered in the competitions were much higher and skilled than the pieces we had entered. Often, dancers from previous competitions would recognize the studio because of the amateur repertoire we were notorious for performing. This was not only harmful to the self esteem of the dancers, but also harmful to the reputation of the studio. When we would attend the awards ceremonies for these competitions, we would always come in last place or receive no awards at all. The ballet training at the studio is nowhere near where it should be considering the age of the dancers. The dancers are often placed into levels far below their skill level and criticized when they bring up that they are not being challenged. Additionally, most of the "advanced" classes are combined with the lower levels simply due to the lack of instructors. This is especially apparent when attending the required competitions. On a positive note, after leaving the studio, I noticed that the technique itself that I had learned at the studio was above most of my current peers'. But, the level of actual dancing was not. I had to work extra hard to achieve the same level as my classmates at my current studio just because I had been given poor training in years prior. This should not have been the case. The classes are simply unhelpful after reaching the age of 8. While it is noticeable that the studio tries to cater to all ages, the sole targeted audience is the younger students who are just discovering the art. Also, the monthly tuition is not equivalent to the value of the training I received at the studio. The classes were not challenging and often had a different instructor by the week. This is also due to the fact that many of the students are scholarships students and need to charge paying families more money to cover the cost of the scholarships. To close, I would like to note that the studio is wonderful for younger students who are discovering the art of dance. On the other hand, older students who would like to pursue a career of dance may want to consider other training options as they progress. read more

After looking at plenty of studios in the city, I decided to go with Soulfire, not only because it's a family friendly environment but many word of mouth reviews from other parents about how they have loved this studio. The staff is so happy and everyone greets you when you walk in. Someone is always there to help with purchasing, signing up or general questions about the classes. Offering trail classes has been super helpful and if needed makeup classes are always available. The instructors are easy to talk to and all have a GREAT approach with the children. My daughter loved attending her first primary ballet class that we decided to sign her up for the more advanced primary class. Having been in this ABT class for sometime my daughter has socially opened up, made great friends and can now nurture her strong desire to do ballet professionally. As a parent of a pre-teen I appreciate the the leadership and development classes to mold a great independent, strong and focused dancer. The conservatory dress code and expectations is such a great way to groom a tiny professional. Soulfire is. AWESOME choice for anyones professional ballet dreams. read more

Wonderful place to take your little one for introduction to dance and at $60/mo, its very affordable. The staff is so super sweet and helpful, the teachers are all patient and very kind and talented. My 3 yr old is in the Once Upon a Dance class. They do a new storybook and costume every week to keep the classes fun. The costumes are so cute and make such a wonderful experience. We've had Miss Ashley, Miss Lisa, and Miss Rachel and my daughter absolutely loves them all. I also take adult dance classes here in the evenings with Tori and a few times with Vanessa, and it is such a joy. The entire studio is just so positive, supportive, fun, and all-inclusive of everyone's abilities and varying experience levels, and everyone seems to have such a passion for sharing their experience with dance. I have signed my daughter up for another season and will continue to do so here as long as she enjoys dance, and I will certainly be continuing the adult classes as long as my legs will let me :) Soulfire is absolutely the right name for this place, would absolutely recommend this positive and uplifting studio for anyone. read more

My diamond loves going to dance, it's the only time I don't have to fight with her to get ready to go. We joined late in the season but she was welcomed and happily included into the class where she has thoroughly enjoyed herself. Very relaxed atmosphere which helps both her and me.
