The full amount of the oil delivery is shown on the slip left by the driver but only 40% is billed to my credit card. I would suggest they make note of that on the slip. read more

We ran out of oil over the weekend. This was the first time dealing with the situation as we bought the house in July. We called a couple places and thought Sound Oil would be the most affordable and efficient. The Sales Manager initially mentioned that he would take care of our no heat situation the same day. Then we told him we were considering moving to an electric heat pump in the summer so we were not sure about setting automatic refills. He said we couldn't take the promotion but we could still get a refill. We agreed. Then he said he couldn't fill us the same day because we were not doing automatic refills so we dealt with it until Monday. The sales manager said the price would be about $5 per gallon. We purchase 200 gallons, so it should have been $1,000 but they charged us $1,200. When the guy arrived to fill the tank he said I was in your neighborhood all day Saturday and could have filled your tank. It's cold out. I was annoyed but at that point I was just happy to be warm again. The sales guy was so pissed we were considering moving to an electric heat pump that he lied to us, over charged us, and made us sleep in the cold. I do not know if we'll move to an electric heat pump this year, but what I do know is that I will NEVER buy anything from Sound Oil again. read more

Last night my furnace stopped working. I called Sound Oil first thing this morning. They got someone out to fix it today. This is what they do. The few times we've had the furnace quit over the years (it's a really old furnace) they send someone out the same day. My grandma, aunt, and now me have all been customers of Sound Oil. They are the best. Technician Ron is always so helpful and explains the system and what's going on with it. I wouldn't use another company. Why do I have heating oil? Because I'm a renter and don't really have a choice if I want to stay warm during the winter months. I have this little game I play where I set the thermostat at 50 degrees and see how long I can go without heat. After that, it's time to run the furnace which means...heating oil. I've used a number of different companies over the years, trying to find the best price with the lowest minimums. Today, I called Sound Oil to order 150 gallons of oil and don't even get me started on how much that cost (but they don't set the prices)! I've been so busy at work that I lost track of how much oil was in the tank. I frantically called Sound Oil this morning and placed my order. They did a bit of checking and told me they could deliver before Thanksgiving. That was a surprise I wasn't expecting. Win! I feel really horrible that my follow-up review did not post earlier and I am just finding out now as I was reaching out for estimates from several different plumbers. Very shortly after I had posted my unhappy and disappointing service with Sound Oil back in November of 2019, Jordan, the Sales Manager, contacted me through yelp and sent a private follow-up message apologizing for the bad service that I had received. We had a nice phone conversation the following day and to my surprise the day after that this nice arrangement was at my door step. I hope since my review and conversation with Jordan that the service with the receptionist have improved, since that is where the business begins, so that the company is not having to follow-up and make amends to repair the damages that has already taken place. I have had our oil furnace tuned every year for 20 years . Basic oil filter measure and adjust the burner and check everything out. Cost every year $150-200 . These guys tuned same service and somehow turned a basic service which always took maximum 30 minutes into a $659.00 bill. Clearly took advantage or worked like a sloth. I changed the filter myself in the past in 5 minutes. This is the end of Sound Oil for us. read more

We've been a customer of Sound Oil since we bought our house in 2013. We didn't have a lot of experience with oil furnaces before then and the Sound Oil team was fantastic in explaining how the system worked, what we could expect, and how they would help us maintain our vintage system. They suggested the annual service agreement which paid off almost immediately when the annual inspection found issues. The technicians that performed the annual service were experienced, friendly, and always took the time to walk through all of our questions. They always responded quickly when we had questions or concerns. And the oil delivery scheduling tracks historic usage and outside temps to ensure that we don't get too low on fuel oil. The delivery truck drivers are always very careful and considerate of our property. They are a fantastic group - everyone from the service and delivery techs to the office staff. read more

I have been an oil customer of Sound Oil since 2014 when I moved into this house in NE Seattle. They always show up within 24 hours, usually closer to 4-12 hours though. I recently needed service on my oil furnace after another service company flaked out on me. It was two days before Xmas and they arrived in less than 24 hours as promised. The issue was fixed within 15 minutes for $150. The previous company was about to charge me $1300 for parts and labor for something completely unnecessary. Will from Sound Oil educated me on the issue and repair, and gave me some tips for optimal performance from my oil/heat pump dual-fuel HVAC system. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. He also arrived masked and with shoe covers which was much appreciated. The woman who answers/dispatches calls is also very nice and has accurately forecasted the oil/service deliveries reliably. Sound Oil only provides service for their oil customers, just a heads up. Like I said though, the oil delivery service is prompt and reliable. I'm so grateful to the team at Sound Oil. My parents have been customers since 2007 & I have been for 2 years. The staff was very friendly & knowledgeable about their system. Home ownership is very new to me & I have been on a learning curve, but heating is one that I don't have any problems with because they are reliable and trustworthy. It's funny because in January, I was freaking out that my furnace might be broken since I had to fill up again so soon. I forgot who helped me outside business hours but I found out that they're the very same person who installed my parent's furnace back in 2007! Glen arrived on time, if not a few minutes early. He was able to assess the problem and had the tools, parts, and know-how to fix the problem right away (the other 2 people that came and charged a fee just to look my furnace quickly diagnosed something, which were not the problem in the end, and didn't fix anything and just wanted me to replace the whole system $$$). I really liked the company at first, they are responsive and easy to get a hold of. However, more recent interactions have not been pleasant. I asked to not have automatic fill-ups so I could better plan for having large bills due, they filled up whenever they wanted anyway. They wanted to come for an annual inspection, but weren't willing to accommodate my work schedule. I ended up not scheduling and the next time I called for a fill-up was given snide remarks about not being available. During that call I was told they'd come by b/w Mon-Weds. On Saturday when I still hadn't gotten oil, I called and was told my fill was scheduled for Fri-Mon. Clearly not what had been communicated to me. read more

Do not use Sound Oil if you have a choice- I did not. Having moved from a rental, I am so happy to not have to deal with this company anymore. They are expensive (as oil heat is I suppose) and entirely rude and unhelpful. Somehow it was a huge ordeal simply arranging a payment plan for a large unexpected bill for my yearly tank filling; where I basically get an unrequested tank filling and unexpected bill in the mail for $1000. As I recall I made the same phone call three or four times but they kept sending me the same unadjusted bill... I just wanted to give them money in the plan we had agreed to verbally and have the agreement in writing for my records. After getting nowhere and asking a sequence of people "....may I speak with your higher-up please?" I discovered that the new 'boss' over there is a huge tool and should not be allowed to talk on the phone. He literally demanded: "Well I want my money now!!!" like some idiot thug from a bad movie. Other people seem to have a different experience with this company than I did. Maybe it's a "whoever answers the phone" kind of thing. Anyway, we recently moved into a new house that has a large shop heated with oil. Sound Oil had sent a promotional flyer to us so I called them when the tank ran out a couple weeks in to living here. We're certainly not the most lucrative client since the house itself is on an electric furnace and the tank for the shop is quite small, but despite that, Jordan was super helpful and came up with a reasonable plan for keeping it filled moving forward (which didn't require any sort of commitment or schedule). I spoke to him on a Monday, he had someone out on Tuesday to do the fill, and then he connected me with a technician over the phone who helped me get the furnace reset and back in order. Basically in 24 hours he had orchestrated the entire first sale and service. Nice. If you call and get someone rude on the other end, maybe look past that and wait until you talk to the sales team. I've been a Sound Oil customer for the past 7 years and I can't say enough about how great they have consistently been to work with. We have maintained a service contract to keep our furnace in tip top shape and all of their maintenace/repair team members have always been prompt, efficient, thorough, and provided high quality work. The folks on the phone are lovely and super helpful. They have easy payment plans to help manage billing. They've been really helpful with periodic phone calls to check in on oil levels to see if we need a fill - it's so easy to forget how your oil tank is doing - the check ins are really appreciated as I'd hate to run out of heat! Deliveries have consistently been on time and done super efficiently. Finally, they went above and beyond to help provide last minute support when we were closing on the sale of our house. First off, Aidan really is very attentive and helpful, and I actually like the customer service people a lot--they may seem a little brusque but they're very straightforward and get the job done. That said, I think the way the company's structured their service contracts is deliberately abstruse. For example their "Automatic Delivery Service", the schedule for which is based on your "past consumption", is aggressively pushed on customers and disingenuous. I had to opt out as they were turning up randomly, frequently and unannounced to top up tiny portions of oil in the heat of summer. For many people this could create an serious hardship--people who have to budget aren't necessarily going to be thinking about that sort of thing in July. It's also very inconvenient to have to get such frequent invoices. I understand that it distributes the work of the delivery people out over the course of the year which could be helpful to them, but it came as a shock to me. It would be nice if they phoned or emailed customers ahead of time so we could decline the refill if we didn't need it. They advertise a "free" annual furnace inspection, yet your contract comes with a $200 annual service fee. If I'm already paying for the oil, it's not really a free inspection if there's a $200 fee tacked on, is it? It's a $200 inspection. When I was renting my house out the renters had allowed the lid to the furnace to get covered up with soil. I was living abroad so Aidan, who really does go above-and-beyond, actually personally came out to my house to find it. That man is a saint and I'm truly grateful to him for doing that. However, the delivery people trash my garden every single time. They trod all over the plants. read more

We have been with sound oil for 14 years and was recently reminded of how great their service has been over the years. From day 1 when we transferred the relationship for the prior buyer to us, throughout the years with annual maintenance they have been on top of their game. The deliveries are discrete and efficient, no mess, never had any issues. We have the annual maintenance contract and they have made our already old furnace last all those years. Unfortunately, nothing worked, so they said they'd send someone out to fix it today. Today! After a three-day weekend! I was flabergasted! The service guy came out, did his magic, and I am now peeling off the four layers of clothing I had on as the house warms up. From regular oil delivery, to annually servicing my furnace, to the rare times that I have inadvertently run out of oil (the first snow of the year), they reassure me that someone will be out to deliver oil as soon as possible, and they do! I was out of oil this morning, and their driver was out early in the afternoon. He was so kind and professional. My daughter has this company and has 2 children under the age of 2 years old that are both really sick right now. She can't work due to this and is behind on her oil bill. She has made repeated calls to set up payment arrangements and nobody has called back. Today she got a call from a very rude woman, while she was on her way to the hospital with her son. The woman proceeded to berate my daughter on the phone while she cried and told her what had happened and that she had been trying to call and make arrangements. The woman told her that the lady that makes payment arrangements has been out of the office and won't be back until August. My daughter asked to speak to someone else and she said "no". She asked what had to be paid now to keep the service on and the woman said $300. She said she didn't have it and the woman said the final bill will be sent out. I am appalled that this is how she was treated and shame on this company for not at least attempting to work with someone trying to pay their bill. Are you really gonna turn off the oil for a mom with 2 sick kids! read more

They are very proactive and prompt with oil delivery, but for maintenance, we've had issues. Had our furnace serviced last fall -- said everything was a-okay. Also, previous owner had stickers indicating annual maintenance by Sound Oil. Had friends house sit that winter and they were concerned about smoke coming out of the vents and an oil smell, so they had a Sound Oil tech come. They said that the vents are too dirty to do any maintenance (still charged us). After getting the vents cleaned, they come back again, replaced part of the motor and the photocell. This year, try to fire up the furnace again and soot build up is so bad that the photocell was blocked. They've come 3 times in a year, bilked me nearly $1k and the furnace is clearly still not operating effectively, generating way too much soot. read more

Sound Oil (and their tech Sim, especially today) has consistently served our address with competence and kind respect. I am too shy of dark spaces with spiders to go into the cellar, and Sim has been willing to navigate the underbelly of our house on my behalf without complaint. Our particular furnace has also posed its own unique troubles, and each of these (a busted pump, a clogged filter, a loose piece of insulation that fell and was burning on the furnace) has been quickly handled. Today, Sim even built a cage for the top portion of the furnace to prevent any other falling debris from reaching it. It was clear that he was not going to call the job done until ALL the details were attended. The techs sent to fill the tank are also courteous and helpful. We needed to delay our next fill-up due to finances, and were helped by both the field techs and the customer service folks to figure out the best fill date to avoid an empty tank but also manage to pick up on the desired billing cycle. When you sell a product that a customer can not actually see, and service an appliance that is so necessary for the well-being of a household, how you deal with people is enormously important. We're very happy with the folks at Sound Oil. read more

We have used Sound Oil for about the past 20 years or so and have no complaints. I mean, you can't get too excited on Yelp about an oil company but we have had very good experiences with them. I actually have had more contact with them from my years of dealing with them for clients in my real estate practice. They have always been very prompt & polite, and all of my clients have seemed to like them as they had used them for years. (Some over 50 years I believe). They offer very competitive pricing. I would recommend getting on a contract type of fill up with them as you get tank insurance that comes along as well. If you have a tank leak, you will be VERY happy you have the insurance. They have always been fast when we needed meter readings for homes selling, and whenever I call and leave a message, i ALWAYS hear back the same day. Like I said, doing a Yelp review for an oil company isn't as sexy as a restaurant, but I think it is just as warranted. I have seen a few reviews that are sounding like they may be disgruntled customers with non payment issues. I can't comment on that, but our experience has always been very positive and professional. The main reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I don't want it flagged and I am a valid customer and client. read more

Became a customer of Sound Oil when I bought my home 3 years ago. The prior owner was with them for a long time and the relatively new furnace was installed by them. When you move into a home with oil heat and you aren't familiar with it, you have some things to learn. All during the relationship, never had any significant issues. Ran out of oil a couple times and they were quick to get me back on track again. The last winter, I kept tabs on the oil usage and it seemed to help a bit on consumption. I would call when I needed fuel and they would come out. I appreciate their payment plan on their services. Getting heating oil stings about 5x worse or more than gassing up your car. Sound Oil allows you to pay off your bill over 5 months or so without any extra fee. Unfortunately, after tracking what I paid for oil over the past 3 years, it was shocking how much I spent and I realized I needed to get switched over to natural gas. If I'd done this when I moved in, the new furnace would probably be paid off. My only complaint is when I ran out of oil and knew I was going to be switching over, I found myself needed a bit of oil to get me thru till the conversion. Sound Oil would only deliver an amount that was beyond what I needed (150-200 gal I think). I would think they could be creative and drop off a lesser amount when they are in my neighborhood anyway, but was told they couldn't do that. A disappointing way to end the relationship with this company. If you're stuck using oil to heat your place, I'd recommend Sound Oil. read more

Good customer service, Aidan follows up and does what he can to help. My previous comments regarding price reflect the fact that their pricing includes a maintenance contract on the fuel tank and the furnace. Unfortunately, at this time, they don't have separate pricing for fuel only vs. fuel and the included warranty. If I was a homeowner, paying a bit extra per gallon could be a really good deal when it includes a warranty on the tank and the furnace. Actually, a pretty fair way to pay in a sort of "per mile" way based on consumption vs. a yearly warranty charge. Not so great for a renter, such as myself, who would not be the one to pay for the tank replacement nor a furnace repair as those are the duty of a landlord in the state of Washington. Would be great if they broke it out, such as $4.00 per gallon for fuel, $.79 per gallon for maintenance contract, $4.79 total, plus tax. Then we could properly allocate what portion is the responsibility of the landlord vs. the tenant---or maybe even bill the landlord directly for their portion. Fortunately, Aidan understands this problem with the setup and is willing to offer discounts to tenants in my situation. Really though it would be better if the company would create separate pricing rather than just giving "me" something for free (ie: something my landlord should be paying for he is getting for free). read more

I called customer service for wrong billing. After the representative agree that the bill is wrong I asked if a new invoice can be issued so I can see the new amount and pay. The representative started laughing over the phone. I asked 'is there something funny' and he reply 'ya because they don't have what to do over there'. After I asked to speak to a manager the representative reply 'those managers won' t sit in the office just to talk to you'.
