We sat outside & half expected to be forgotten about. We were wrong. the servers were so attentive, even after we had finished our meal & paid! They were so friendly, like really friendly. They brought out anything that we could possibly need for our meal - we didn't even have to ask for anything. My family is really into steak. The filet was really flavorful & tender. If I could eat dairy, I would've eaten all my husband's garlic noodles! I ordered the pho with brisket, which was good. The highlight was the broth, not too salty but full of flavor. I didn't realize I need to stir the pho around to cook the meat so I ended up taking that part home. Speaking of protein, there was SO much. They were very generous with that. Stumbled upon this place when looking for something brothy on Saturday night. It was pretty packed but they have plenty of outdoor seating and despite it being a little chilly it was pretty comfortable due to the heaters! In particular I loved that the heaters were on the ceiling so you had just enough heat to feel comfy but not so much that you're dying from heat stroke (which is usually how I feel if I'm sat near an outdoor heater). Service was excellent, they had an big influx of customers but they handled the rush well and we got our food pretty fast. Honey jasmine green tea with salted cream: 1000/5. I could have had 2 more of these. Easily. It was so refreshingly floral and sweet but the cream offset it with that pinch of salty. Ugh, so good! Popcorn chicken: 3/5. We got the golden bao, which had the filling of a traditional Banh bao but it was crispy/fried on the outside. 5/5. Also tried their egg roll and these were pretty standard however the egg roll wrapper was deliciously crunchy and flakey. Also 4/5. I saw the Yelp reviews and was a little worried that Soup Shop wouldn't live up to the high rating. I have to say that it definitely delivered! We got a Pho Brisket and Pho Chicken. The restaurant was busy but the food came out fast! The portions were pretty sizable, with a generous amount of protein compared to other restaurants. The brisket, which is cooked for three hours, was one of the best briskets I've had at a pho shop. The broth is flavorful. You can also get free refills of pho noodles when you dine in though - unlike that other pho shop with a similar name - they give you a good sized portion so you're not desperate to refill your bowl. Service was great! They came by constantly to check to see if we needed anything and to refill water. We heard a lot of hype about Soup Shop so we had to check it out on a recent couples' date night sans kids. FYI - this restaurant can be found in a busy plaza anchored by a Whole Foods and located at the corner of Irvine Center Drive and Research Drive, so parking may be scarce during peak hours. Servers were friendly in greeting us and efficient as they were able to seat us quickly without a reservation. The meal started off on a good note with the Sautéed Scallion Corn and Golden Popcorn Chicken appetizers. There was even a hint of spice in the corn app which I appreciated. Between the four of us, we put both dishes away. I had a challenging time deciding on my entree, but I finally settled on the combination pho and added a side of rib bone. It's been a minute since I had pho, so I really wanted to love it but IMO it was good not great. The meat was not fall off the bone tender and the noodles and broth were not memorable. I've had better pho in a few other restaurants nearby but outside of Irvine. Still, it's always nice to get out and enjoy a nice meal with friends. As someone who is an absolute fanatic for a PHO-nomenal bowl of pho, I'm sure ecstatic that Soup Shop has opened in Irvine to join the nearby Phoholic (in South Coast) and Sup Noodle Bar. This spot offers quite an excellent selection of mainly beef pho noodle soups (although they also have chicken), as well as Vietnamese garlic noodles, rice plates, and vermicelli. We ordered the Combination Pho, which comes with a generous portion of meatballs, brisket, tendon, tripe, as well as an optional add-on of a giant beef short rib. All of the meats were very high quality, especially the short rib, which was cooked to tender perfection and contained a lot of meat. All of their pho noodle soups also have unlimited free noodle refills, but honestly, the original bowl comes with a lot, and none of us ordered more noodles. We also ordered the fried chicken rice plate, which came with a perfectly fried, juicy cut of chicken, jasmine rice, and salad. I personally like the taste of pho broth but don't love the actual beef taste, so this was nice. PARKING: it's a busy plaza, but you can usually find parking without issues. SERVICE: My main gripe about this place was my experience with the bowls. They messed up our orders, brought our bowls to another table, then brought the same bowls back to us. I asked to make sure that the other table didn't eat it, and they said for sure they didn't. I asked if it was possible to remake the bowl, and they brought out the same exact bowl, the orientation of the meat was the same as the photo I had taken before they brought it back. I can't speak for their other food but we tried their pho and it's definitely made very well. The broth is not as rich as other places (like sup noodle bar), so if you prefer a lighter taste, this might be up your alley. The portion size is actually pretty large and you also get unlimited noodles. We got the pho rib eye and pho brisket which are $16.45 each. Pretty good value in my opinion. TL;DR: they raised their prices and also took away complimentary noodle refills. The soup is good and the other food is pretty good. Our experiences lately here have been declining in quality. We didn't have small plates for our appetizers, and didn't have soup spoons in the caddy, really some pretty basic things. The workers are overwhelmed and it's hard to track down people to help you when you need it. While I can put up with some of the things above for some good food, what changed today is we were charged a higher price for the appetizer than what was stated on the menu. The menu also states complimentary refills for noodles while dining in, and we were charged for this as well (and not informed by the server). We didn't notice these changes until after we left. Please update your menus to reflect the correct prices and policies and do better. We will reconsider our go to pho place. read more
