It's a little past the 10AM opening time, Saturday, June 29, 2024, and I've arrived at Sourdough and Company.
    Eric R.

The Granite Bay - Roseville - location of Sourdough and Co. is the second location in the City of Roseville, and one of several dozen of stores located in California. The Granite Bay location is the newest store in Roseville and has quickly achieved a reputation as a go-to restaurant when you're in the mood for a fine sandwich. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a friendly staff member, and you'll notice the menu on the wall, where you make your selection. The restaurant operates in what I call the "taqueria format" in that you make your selection from the menu, pay for it, choose the seat of your choice, and when your order is ready, a friendly staff member will bring it to you, with a smile. Like most casual restaurants in 2024, the majority orders seemed to be to-go. Me... I'm "old school," as I prefer to enjoy my meal in the dining room, or outside on a patio. "Clam Chowder" soup is on the menu every day - it's one of my favorite soups - and it seemed to be the ideal soup for this late Friday morning. "Fire Roasted Vegetable," along with "Chili," were also available, but the clam chowder won out. When you order soup at Sourdough and Co., do yourself a favor, and go with the "Bread Bowl" as the freshly baked bread is simply divine. The bowl of bread started out with a roll about the size of a small head of cabbage, kind of squashed flat on the ends and not perfectly round like a ball. Like all the sourdough bread served at the restaurant, the bowl was freshly baked to a perfect golden brown and offered a satisfying "crunch" on the outside, yet was tender on the inside. All lovers of sourdough bread should take note, as this bread was simply delicious! The roll was hollowed out in the center to make a bowl for the soup, and the hollowed out portion was served on the side, along with a couple packages of butter. The soup was thick, rich with flavor and included lots of potatoes, clams and a touch of bacon. It was delicious, especially when enjoyed inside the inside the sourdough bread bowl. Soup is made in advance and heated in a large soup pot, which is works to made delicious soup! You don't have to leave Roseville and drive to the east coast to enjoy delicious "New England Clam Chowder," as you simply visit Sourdough and Company, and you'll enjoy a cup, bowl of a "Bread Bowl" of clam chowder as good as it gets... From the "Sandwiches" section of the menu, I went with an 8-inch "Roast Beef," with all everything on it. My choice of mustard was Dijon, and, for a change, I went with sliced Cheddar cheese. With the mustard, you choose between yellow or Dijon, and there are six varieties of cheese to choose from. All six cheeses are delicious, but on this Friday morning, Cheddar seemed to be my cheese of choice. As a wonderful addition, a slice of dill pickle was included on the side. The sandwich began with an 8-inch, amazingly delicious sourdough "Dutch Crunch" roll, freshly baked in the restaurant's kitchen. Sourdough bread is what the restaurant is famous for, and this roll didn't disappoint, as it was fresh, sweet and sour, and soft on the inside and crusty on the outside, complete with grill marks! The freshly baked rolls at Sourdough and Co. are simply amazing, and the rolls alone make a trip to the restaurant a worthwhile experience. Chilled "Roast Beef" was my choice of meat today, and my sandwich arrived with a generous helping of deli-style roast beef, which made the bread even better. The roast beef was your typical premium deli meat, which was thinly sliced and simply delicious. When it came to garnishes I requested everything, so I received their "House Spread" - similar to Thousand Island dressing - spread on both sides of the roll, lettuce, tomato and onion. As I mentioned earlier, my choice of mustard was Dijon and Cheddar was my choice of cheese. The chilled Cheddar cheese blended perfectly with the "House Spread" to add a smooth, creamy touch to this delicious sandwich. My only regret, and I realized it after enjoying my sandwich is that I would have preferred horseradish sauce rather than "House Spread," as I'm simply a sucker when it comes to horseradish sauce. One bite into this sandwich and I was rewarded with a taste sensation! You first get a lot of "crunch" as you bite into the roll, thanks to the "Dutch Crunch" sourdough bread, and the deliciousness of the roast beef, the veggies and the sauce kick in. The sandwich had the perfect bread-to-meat ratio, and the spread, the cheese and the veggies combined to make this a delicious, and well-balanced sandwich. This sandwich is for Placer County "foodies!" Friendly service and a simply amazing "Bread Bowl" of clam chowder, along with a sandwich that you could sink your teeth into. Five star dining in the Granite Bay district of Roseville, CA!

Ada is helped us today Service with a smile! We ordered 3 clam chowder bread bowls to go $34 Bread bowls were toasty and warm Clam chowder was full of potatoes and clam, nice texture Ada even offered us a water cup while we waited and brought us our order to the table. Nice music, clean environment. The wraps and sandwiches looked delicious, a must try next time around.

I previously ordered 1-2 sandwiches weekly, for myself and for our staff, but over the last 4-5 months their sandwiches have declined in quality, in the sense that every sandwich has fat or barely any meat. During my last visit I encountered the same problem. I let it go. But today I have decided that I am tired of this issue. I won't be returning.

My sister said it gets very busy at dinner time and the wait time can be over an hour. For lunch, it was quite a good deal. AYCE Hotpot, sushi and BBQ for about $30. If you only choose one of the AYCE options, it is about $25 but seems worth it to get the all 3 combo for $30. It does seem that everybody at the table has to choose the same option. Hot pot - You each get your own individual hot pot. There had a pretty good variety of broth flavors to choose from. There is a menu that you can order the meat from. There were 5 of us and we were told we can order 4 meats to share per round. There is a separate area for to grab a tray/bowl and choose your veggies. All in all, I enjoyed the Tonkatsu broth and like the variety of meats and veggies available. Korean BBQ - A bit different in that you do not order at the table. There is an area with small trays of meat available for you to grab and bring back to your table. Good variety. Pork Jowl was my favorite and it's not as common. The only issue is that if your party doesn't communicate, you some how end up grabbing all of the same items! So discuss amongst yourselves or else it might be an overkill. Didn't try the sushi simply because I had some good quality sushi the night before so no need for buffet style sushi. The staff was VERY friendly and efficient. They came by often to check on us, take away dirty plates and to change the grill. There is plenty of parking in the parking lot.

i don't usually have high expectations for restaurants that serve such a wide variety of items…read more.. but i was recommended ktown by several people, so i gave it a try. it wasn't very busy when we came on a friday night. the interior was decorated with neon lights, and it was spacious. i thought the seats and table felt a bit sticky, and the rest of the restaurant didn't feel too clean either. we were seated quickly, and service was friendly. our server explained the menu - essentially, the soups and meats for hot pot could be ordered off the menu, and everything else could be grabbed at the bar. there were a lot of options, and i was excited to try everything. i ordered the szechuan mala broth, which i thought was so mediocre. it was pretty spicy but otherwise bland, like there wasn't any real flavor. i usually like to drink my hot pot broth, but i didn't think it was good enough to sip a lot of. the thai tom yum was a better soup, but it still wasn't super flavorful. it tasted like a watered down tom yum - not super tangy. i also typically like to dip my meats in sauce, and ktown offered a sauce bar with all of the basics, including sesame sauce, soy sauce, ponzu, cilantro, garlic, and other things. there were also sauces for kbbq here, like brisket sauce. there was a lot of variety for meat options, but they were all just a lot thicker and tougher than i expected. our server explained that the ones on the menu were really just for hot pot, but we used some of them for kbbq anyway because we wanted more unmarinated meats. most of the meats at the bar were marinated. i would recommend avoiding this with the beef tongue. it was so thick and extremely chewy, although it was better when cooked in the hot pot broth. the beef belly is usually my favorite cut, but it was also chewy. the black angus brisket was okay; it was on the tougher and drier side. the us kobe beef was my favorite cut of beef because it was the least chewy. the pork shoulder and pork belly were also just okay; i liked that the pork belly was a thinner cut. i probably enjoyed it the most. the australian wagyu was just too dry. the new zealand lamb was right there with the beef tongue as the worst cut because again, it was very chewy, even in the hot pot broth... the broth kind of masked the texture of the meats, but it was so bland that i needed a lot of sauce. at the bar, there was a variety of seafood for the hot pot, including clams, mussels, fish, shrimp, and crawfish. they also offered a good selection of vegetables, like enoki mushrooms, peppers, cabbage, spinach, and onions. there were also quail eggs, roe pockets, fish balls, and dumplings, among other things. there were a lot of meats at the bar for kbbq, but they weren't labeled nor set out in any particular pattern. the spicy pork bulgogi was overmarinated, but it was one of my favorites (of the meats on the menu and the ones set out) because the sauce masked the low quality of meat. it was the typical korean spicy pork marinade - not too spicy and slightly sweet. we also tried the bulgogi, and it was also typical - sweet as expected. they set out thicker cuts of pork belly here, which were super heavy and fatty. almost all of the meats were marinated in some kind of sauce. there were some steaks that were just seasoned with salt and pepper, but they were so tough. there were a lot of other appetizers and hot dishes too, although everything looked like it was left out for a while. i saw kimchi, beansprout salads, cold potato salads, cucumbers, seaweed salads, fried dumplings, tempura, and some other things. i tried the wings, which were plain and kind of dry, and the skin wasn't crispy anymore. the japchae was okay, but there wasn't a lot of flavor. there were some mussels that were covered in cheese and a creamy sauce, which made them pretty heavy. the seafood boil was lukewarm, but the seasoning was okay. it was just a little oily. i did enjoy their corn cheese, which we heated up ourselves over the kbbq grill. i liked that it was slightly sweet. on the side of the bar, there was a variety of nigiri, sashimi, and sushi rolls - all poor quality. the salmon nigiri and sashimi weren't tender nor soft, and neither were the tuna or yellowtail. they were kind of mushy and slightly rubbery. the rolls were better, although they were almost all variations of california rolls doused in sauce - most of them had spicy mayo and a sweet glaze. the sauce at least masked the quality of the fish. overall, ktown was a jack of all trades and master of none. while i was impressed by the extensive variety of options, i got full very quickly because the quality of food wasn't the best. if someone ever needed a restaurant with options for everyone, then i might suggest ktown, but i wouldn't really be able to say i liked the hot pot, sushi, or kbbq. since i would rather have tasty food over lots of options, i wouldn't come back.
