I've been coming here the last couple of years, and I always have an amazing experience every time. Anytime I'm back in the Roseville area where my parents live. I love coming here they always have the freshest meats, cheeses and produce. The staff there are super friendly. They really know how to pack a sandwich as well so you get your moneys worth. They have lots of bread, options and drink and chips options even dessert sometimes too. I really wanted to like this deli after seeing a social media thread but after trying it I have to give an honest 3 stars. The bread tasted like wonder bread. Nothing against wonder bread but if you are going to have a classic deli sandwich the bread needs to have a fresh taste. The meat quality tasted like it had been in a container for a few days. Not bad but not fresh. Small tip to the staff, don't just stand there and stare at customers while they are trying to make decisions. Been on my radar for a while, I finally swung by! It's tucked away off Douglas with a small worn down sign. I've always yelped it and never been in. So when I walked in I was immediately hit with the fantastic deli smell so you know it's authentic! Walked in and they have a very simple menu. I went with the BFD with smoked turkey, salami, mortadella, and pastrami and then the cheese was Monterey Jack and smoked cheddar. It was absolutely phenomenal. I saw a review saying their sandwich was dry but mine was just the opposite. Dripping with deli dressing, it was just loaded with meat and the bread was a super soft sweet roll. This was a disappointment. Visited for Sunday lunch based on all the great Yelp reviews. Well, either the reviews are spurious or the place was having a really off day. Pros: - Staff was friendly and helpful. - Quality of the sandwich ingredients was pretty good. The produce seemed fresh, the meats were good. German potato salad was good but I'm pretty sure it is not made in-house. Cons: - We ordered two sandwiches, and both were very, very skimpy on the meat (and the fixings as well, actually). Pastrami tasted OK but there was not enough meat for a half sandwich, much less a full size one. Same with my wife's sandwich (mortadella, I think?). - Both sandwiches were served with no condiment (mayo, mustard, etc) on the top half of the roll at all and just a small amount on the bottom half. So there was little added flavor and the whole thing was just too dry. The rolls were large, so with such a tiny amount of filling and almost no spreads, it was basically like just a bread sandwich. - Macaroni salad was lacking; it needed more dressing, veggies, something. I've been looking for a deli since we moved here in 2017. And I finally found one. My wife got egg salad on sour dough and enjoyed it. I asked for the best sandwich they have to earn my business and they did with flying colors. The ingredients are fresh and plentiful. My only knock would be do not go in during a giants game. The door was open early and I wandered in not realizing they had not yet opened. They were happy to help me anyway. The smell - so yummy. I wanted to eat the smell! As another yelper said, just like a deli should smell. I've lived in Roseville seven years and had never tried this place. It was amazing. I had the antipasto (I saved it for lunch) and it was perfect. I also got some of the antipasto salad and a couple of devlied eggs. The antipasto is perfect, and I went back the next week just to buy some of that. Not overly oily and seasoned exactly right. This place also has great Giants memorbilia and fun. I placed a phone order today & at first I was very pleased with my experience. I didn't catch their name, but whoever answered the phone was super nice & very accommodating. When I arrived to pick up the sandwiches, I saw they were still finishing up which wasnt a problem at all. My issue was that I witnessed their staff making sandwiches & picking up different kinds of meat with their bare hands. I didnt see one person wearing gloves or wash their hands in between tasks. The person who made my order of sandwiches finished making them & then rung me up on the POS system. After he was finished, he went directly back to making more sandwiches (DID NOT WASH HANDS). This is an issue for me for multiple reasons. I truly wish this wasnt the case because they are such kind people & their deli is located close to my office, but I will not be back. read more

Very small parking lot and building is deceivingly small from outside but they manage to fit a lot of seating inside (even though I don't imagine a lot of people dine in) doesn't really feel inviting, but food is good. At first I got confused and thought it was just a meat market / buy stuff a la carte by the ounce or pound, cuz when you walk in it literally is just a counter on the left with some foods on display like macaroni salad, potato salad, meat and cheese cuts....then to the right side there are a few shelves of various brands of chips and drink coolers filled with bottled sodas, waters, lemonade, energy drinks etc. It had a gas station store vibe. Lots of sports memorabilia as decor so that's cool. Also had a mediocre TV in the left corner and was playing a football game. Especially liked all the SF Giants stuff. The woman who greeted us seemed like she was having a tough day and was not very chipper, but eventually she warmed up a little. I asked if they had salad and she pointed out the pasta and macaroni salad in the display counter...but said she didn't have any green salad. So I opted for minestrone soup instead (large). Friend ordered a Rueben sandwich. They had a couple shelves dedicated to Kettle brand chips and had some interesting flavors. So decided to try some Korean BBQ flavored chips. Also got a bottled flavored water drink (Bai- coconut). Total came out to $12 and some change. I was gonna pay with card but they charge 75 cent transaction fee (understandable for small mom and pop shop). They asked if we were eating in or taking to go and we were eating in so that basically meant they gave us trays and didn't wrap the sandwich but still gave me my soup in a Styrofoam container. I'm not one to usually judge on this but these are hard to eat out of and just presentation wise I think they could easily have a stack of bowls (even if thicker paper material bowls) for the few folks that decide to eat there- maybe? There was a couple eating there and another person waiting for a to go order. Other parties came in while we were eating as well so I know they offer a decent product (probably specialize in sandwiches, as Friend said her Reuben sandwich was good) (minestrone was ok- not what I am used to)...but the experience for me was meh and I wouldn't go rushing back- in fact probably would try elsewhere. read more

This review is long overdue but today I knew it had to be done! First of all, I've enjoyed every single time I've been here; the sandwiches are top tier and the service is consistently excellent and feels very personal. It's a family run business and feels that way the second you walk in or even call. Today I called in with a special request... I'm doing keto but craving their sandwiches so I asked for all the inside and no bread and they made me a beautiful bowl that was insanely good. When I eat at a deli and am not leaving out of town, I usually always stay in the Sacramento area. Very rarely do I venture up to Roseville unless I am shopping at the Galleria Mall or visiting friends. Well this time, I try out one of Roseville's finest old school no-frills deli. Which brings me to "Better Foods Deli". Located on the older part of Roseville and directly on Douglas Blvd. (west of I-80), this place has been delivering sandwiches ever since the early 1970's. And when you first walk into this place, it doesn't look as if the decor has changed that much since then. The one noticeable thing is there is a considering amount of San Francisco Giants memorabilia in here! And with me being a diehard Giants fan, this already is an added bonus. The menu has all the fixins that includes every sandwich with various cheese and bread choices to truly customize the perfect sandwich. You will also find a wide range of salads and pastas to pair up with your sandwich. I come here with my lovely fiancée on a Saturday afternoon as we are in need for a hearty lunch. As we see how well proportioned the size of these sandwiches are, we decide on splitting the "Smoked Turkey" sandwich (for $6.95) on a sweet French roll. This comes with all the produce as well as sliced Provolone cheese, mayo, and mustard. As for our side of choice, I try their homemade potato salad. Even though they were busy with hungry customers, our sandwich is ready in about 5 short minutes. Everything tasted fresh and was of high quality. They definitely did not skimp on the meat. And the sweet French roll bread had the perfect consistency while it held the meat, cheese, and veggies snug with each bite. I particularly enjoyed their potato salad as it is very close to how my homemade recipe comes out. It was way better than any store bought potato salad so I do have to give them props on that one. Service however was a bit on the plain Jane side as many employees seemed a little bit too serious. I do think that they get a lot of the regulars that come in frequently which is what I noticed when I was there. And its in a great location in the older part of Roseville that has way more character and charm than the newer, cookie cutter areas. Overall, this is a very good deli and for the locals that reside in Roseville, I would definitely give this place a try. read more

It's Sunday and I'm working on my yard while a couple of guys paint inside and I didn't realize I was starved till it was almost 3:00pm. Not many spots were open and I'm new to the area so wasn't sure where to go. Better Foods popped up on my Yelp search so I called in an order for three sandwiches and headed over. They were closing in less than 30 minutes but they were super nice on the phone, had my sandwiches ready in less than the 10 minutes they quoted, and I was in and out in just a few minutes. They have a wall full of cold drink options, tons of chips, and an array of sandwiches and sides. I would have taken a pic of my BLT but it was gone too fast. DE-LICIOUS! First time coming here but prob last time. Customer service is excellent but cleanliness isn't. Staff here do not wear gloves when preparing your food. I saw my server pick stuff off the floor and then touched numerous surfaces without washing their hands. Just gross!!!! Food prep gloves are cheap so why don't they have any.
