I had a GREAT experience at South Bay Pre-Owned. I'm an older guy, and I have bought a lot of cars, and I have never said that before. Ever! I was looking for a very specific van on-line, and they had one. It's a popular van, there are lots of 2018's out there, so it was easy to compare prices and miles. The one they had was low miles and priced competitively. It looked just like the one I test drove in Burbank the day before. Exactly the same - same features, same racks, same color and everything - but - for less money. So I called to confirm the van was there and the price was what I saw on-line. They confirmed it was. I even asked for a total price including tax, dealer fees and all charges so I would know everything before I arrived, and I was given that information over the phone. I wanted to know that in case there was a discrepancy later. That made me more comfortable, so I made the long trip from Glendale down to Torrence by ride share. When I got there I was greeted right away. I took the van for a test drive, and it was just as described. I liked it. I decided I was going to buy it. We get back to the show room, and I sit down with Peter G. and I show him the pre-approval letter from my bank and who we need to call if there are any problems. Now I am expecting the usual hard sell; for warranties, Gap Insurance, undercoating, over coating, inner coating, winter coating - the usual. But no, nothing. Instead we are having a nice chat about this and that while Peter fills out the paper work. He doesn't try to sell me a thing. He is just getting the paper work ready while my van is being prepped, and we are having a pleasant time. I was waiting for the other shoe, but it never dropped. I read, I sign, I initial, I get the key and I am off. It all went very quickly. I was pleasantly surprised. This has never ever happened to me before. And when they emailed the paperwork to my bank, like they said they would, they Cc'd me so I'd have a copy. The van is great, and my experience with Peter, Gumby and Jules was really great. I can't speak to all the other reviews I saw here. I was hesitant to come all the way down to Torrance because of some of them, but I took a risk. I thought if the van is there, and it's as described, then it is just what I want, and I was prepared to deal with some BS. But there was NO BS, NO problems, and no hassles. Just the van I wanted and a great experience. I'm probably going to drive this van for the next ten years or more, so I don't know when I'm going to buy another vehicle, but when I do, if I am still in LA, the first thing I'll do will be to call South Bay Pre-Owned. Here is another place that if again, I could put zero stars I would. Bad reviews really are like cleaning a toilet. It's not fun but it has to be done. Here we go... I saw this car online, it fit the bill for what I was looking for. I called in to inquire about it. Spoke for several minutes with a man named Peter. Peter stated at the end of the call that he wanted to help me, I just had to come up with x amount of dollars for the down-payment and take care of the insurance and we would be good to go. I told him it was going go take some time to save that amount of money, and it did. In the meantime he texted me on at least 3 different occasions afterward, asking me if I had the money yet. I told him no, not yet. Finally I was able to save the money, and was ready to look at the car and possibly buy it. Pete tells me it's at a storage location in long Beach and that I could go look at it "they wouldn't give me any problem". I go over there, there is no staff to show Me the car. He says to talk to someone named "Mr martin". Instead I get a call/text from someone named Jules. I later learn that Mr Martin and Jules are the same person. I miss the call and Jules martin doesn't call back. We kept trying to get a hold of these guys to see the car but they didn't respond. We left and followed up the next day (saturday). They told me they wouldn't be in that day but to try setting up an appointment for Sunday. At this point I'm mainly speaking to Peter because Jules wasn't responding other than asking for a copy of my id. When texting Peter he says I probably won't get financed (forgetting our conversation a month ago). He also seemed to want me to deal with mr martin to make the deal. Later that night for some reason i got a group text. It was between peter and mr martin but i dont think he realized he had attached my number. In the text he told Mr martin to help me the next day and that I just needed proof of income. Mr martin responds with a derogatory, s.exist text calling me a disgusting bug because of my credit and saying they would drag me by the hair if needs be. (See attached image). Well...im pretty shocked. And disgusted. If this is how these people feel, do not do business with them. Mr martin is a crude individual that will take your money, talk trash and laugh while doing it. It is so sleazy. Makes you want to take a shower. Horrible. This guy really shouldn't have a job after this. Apparently he thinks it's funny to hurt women. It's really disgusting laughing about abuse. Fire that guy. read more

I was trying to sell my Tesla Model 3. I placed an ad on FB Marketplace, contacted Vroom.com, and took the car to Carmax for an appraisal. The best offer came from someone who works at South Bay Pre-Owned. The person that messaged me was not there that day, but I got to talk to Paul Ebener. In the beginning, Paul was a bit abrasive and distrustful. An old timer. Eventually, when he realized that I was playing with an open deck, he relaxed and wrote up the deal just as the guy who messaged me had offered. I did not buy a car from them as I was not looking to replace my Tesla, but they had gorgeous cars there, and they priced my Tesla at around 10% higher than they paid me for it. In my opinion, that's a very low markup, and if that's how they normally price their vehicles, a buyer can get a great deal on one. I would rate them as extremely honest and upfront, no gimmicks, no BS. As soon as I was able to get the title of my car to them, they mailed the check to me. read more

These guys are the embodiment of used car salesman. They're sleazy and dishonest. Here's my backstory: Went to cars.com to list my used car. I got four offers that came in, all around the same price. Then I got a fifth offer from South Bay Pre-Owned that was $1k over everyone else. Even though I already had taken the car to CarMax and had an offer in writing, I owed it to myself to go check out this offer. Drove 30 mins there, and sure enough, what I thought would happen did happen. The extra $1k offer was just a ruse to get to come to them. I met with Pete Guerrero, who was the one who made the offer. He barely walked around the car before he was offering $100 over what CarMax offered. Thanks Pete! Keep in mind too that I had a dozen photos of the car on cars.com, so this wasn't a surprise for him to see. A couple of cosmetic problems with the car that were also noted on my post on cars.com. Basically, they told me they would give me $1k over everyone else to get me to show up, only to low ball in person with the hope that I'd just cave and sell. I'm going to CarMax instead. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS DEALERSHIP BEFORE READING THIS. These guys are real scam artists. I go in and ask about a car. Take it for a test drive. It's totally screwed up. Then I'm told to look at a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe with 146,000 miles on it. Take it for a test drive. Like it. Start the buying process and take it to my mechanic. My mechanic confirms what they told me, the top end was rebuilt and the case should make it to Arkansas. Guess what? 40 miles outside of Albuquerque NM, the car overheats. I shut it down, to wait for it to cool down. I try to start it again. It doesn't. I call triple A for a tow that cost nearly $300. The next day the shop calls me to tell me that epoxy was used to seal the radiator and when that went, the engine seized. I called Pete and explained the situation. He tells me to wait for Paul to call me. Paul calls me, and when I explain what happened, his response was, "It went that soon!" When I tell this to Pete, he tells me to bring the car back and he might buy it back. All I was asking of them is to meet me halfway, about $2,000. Now Pete stopped responding. I'm stuck in NM waiting on an engine so I can get to Arkansas. I've filed a BBB complaint as well as to the bureau of automotive repair. Even if these avenues fail, then off to small claims. By the way, I'm recently disabled and on a fixed income, so having to foot this bill on my own is not a happy thought I'm hoping they'll come around, but it doesn't look like it. (1) I personally know a mechanic who does inspection and maintenance of their fleet of new arrivals. He says they always tell him to use lower standards so the cars will pass inspection. For example, let's say the brakes need to be replaced if worn down to 15%. The mechanic is NOT allowed to replace them unless it's at least 10%. (2) Another time I posted a car ad on Craigslist ad. Next day I got a call from their slimey fast-talking sales guy, telling me he had a buyer interested in my car and wanted me to bring the car to him ASAP but would not give me a price quote on the phone or anything about this alleged 'buyer'. What a total scam! Their fleet of used luxury cars are nice, but you know the old saying -- ALL that glitter is not Gold. Avoid this place like the plague! read more

Just got off the phone with Paul. He's a great guy, as he was able to save me some travel time to check out one of their their internet posted deals. He told me about some of the issues the car had. I then asked some more questions on 3 additional separate calls and each time he promptly called me back to explain everything in detail! It was great that Paul was so upfront about the car. He saved me about 2 hours travel time of heading out there. And another 2 hours of disappointment if I did, because the information about the car didn't meet my expectations. Just very unprofessional. I went in to buy a car (ALL CASH) no financing. We offered a price, they accepted our terms and made a deal on a car. I put down a deposit for them to sell the car to me the next day because they do not take debit cards as a form of payment. I had to go to my bank and get a cashier's check with the agreed upon amount. The next day arrives and I call to just confirm that my car is ready for pickup (fresh wash and dry, tire pressure good, documents ready to go) but instead I'm thrown into left field when I'm being told the car I test drove and fell in love with is gone! They sold my car to someone who came to their shop once I left for the ticket value. Whether someone wanted the car or not, it was my car! We were told that the car wouldn't be shown off or sold with that deposit I put down. I was furious because as a salesman, your word is your bond! This is completely unacceptable and just a terrible way of conducting business. This "dealership" is more like a circus run by clown. Hands down one of the most unprofessional experiences I've have ever had! Purchased a car through Paul (who was friendly enough *at the time) everything after this purchase has been a complete nightmare... 1. They estimated that the DMV registration would be around $190 however it ended up being almost double that due to negligence. 2. They somehow didn't realize that the vehicle only had one license plate due to negligence. I called and left multiple messages and then wrote emails requesting more information as well as information regarding that status of the license plate....I waiting 8 days and no one returned my email or call.... I then called again and spoke to the owner who was extremely condescending, unprofessional, aggressive, childish and rude! When I started to ask why the registration was double the estimate and why no one checked the status the vehicle or the fact that it didn't come with both license plates, he became instantly defensive and frantic...then told me "we are horrible human being!" I said "what!? I don't know why you are getting so worked and becoming aggressive with me, I am just trying to understand what's going on please just tell Paul to call me..." he then said again his semi-broken English "we are horrible human being, If makes you feel better" and hung up on me! I am absolutely shocked and appalled by the behavior and lack of customer service provided. I would not recommended this "dealership" to anyone. Before you buy from them, just know that they are negligent, forgetful and very unprofessional....I recommend finding a creditable dealership not some man child's used car lot. The only helpful person they have is Carmen, she was at least able to provide assistance with getting the registration sent to me and the forms I will need to purchase a license plate. read more

I knew I could get more from a private buyer, but I didn't want the hassle or potential scams. I posted the car online, and got some interest from a few dealers.
