NOT A JUICE BAR. Advertising juice bar and fresh pressed but everything is pre-bottled and you can not order fresh pressed juice. Tried to get a celery juice with no ice, couldn't do it. Tried to get a kale and apple, couldn't do it. It's an açaí bowl place with CVS smoothies on the side. Açaí bowl is dank tho. read more

My wife and I have now been to this South Block location twice in the past month, and we love it! There is usually a bit of a line, but it makes sense such they make delicious acai bowls and smoothies. We have tried the warrior bowl and the PB bowl. The warrior bowl includes fresh cut strawberries and has a very fresh/crisp flavor and the PB bowl has peanut butter mixed with the açaí giving it a creamer feel. I love seeing that all the fruit is cut fresh as they make the bowls (which they make fast!). Also of note, the granola here is delicious which is what I believe separates this place from other places, so sweet and crunchy. Can't wait till we go back for our third trip :) read more

South Block is inside the Union Market and is located near the back of the building. I got the SuperGreen smoothie with ginger. Awesome flavor and the service was great. I like the idea of them putting the drinks in the cooler for pickup orders so they stay at the ideal temperature. The price is $8 for a smoothie, which is standard for the DC area. I would come again and try their other flavors if I am at Union market again. read more

I always stop by this South Block when I venture into the Union Market! They have my all-time two favorites on their menu: the super green smoothie and the warrior bowl. While it's a little pricer than your average Smoothie King smoothie, you can really taste the difference in the freshness of their ingredients. They pack it FULL of fresh fruity goodness and it is surprisingly very filling. No artificial sweeteners needed, this stuff tastes amazing. Also, extra points for instagram worthy bowls. read more

This was my first time trying an Açaí bowl and I was not disappointed! The shop is located in union market and it very cute and clean. Due to the location in the market there isn't much seating right by the restaurant stall, but if you walk around the market you will eventually find a seat. The açaí bowl itself was very good and refreshing! The fruit was very fresh, and seemed like it was very good quality. I got the warrior bowl, and the price for the bowl was about $11. It's very vegetarian and vegan friendly, and they had three different options for the açaí bowl as well as smoothies. One thing to keep in mind is that they are a CASHLESS OPERATION! So remember to bring your card. I would definitely go there again! read more

My first acai bowl and it was pretty good. I have heard a lot of hype about the greatness of acai bowls. I agree that the acai bowl was very refreshing and healthy, but it seems like something that I could have made at home. I got the California bowl made with Strawberry Banana smoothie, which comes with Strawberry, Banana, and Blueberry toppings and granola. I think the toppings and granola help with the texture of the bowl because the smoothie seemed a little too runny for my liking. Another thing was that the smoothie was soooooo cold! Making it difficult to eat. The toppings were the lifesaver! In the end, I like that South Block has a bottle of chia seeds that you can add as many chia seeds as you like. Can't forget those omega 3's! read more

Tried a PBJ bowl for pick-up and it was pretty tasty, lots of banana, granola, and blueberry but what was weird was the acai mix was very watery and icey-tasting. Gave my sensitive teeth a hard time. Maybe something to do with my order timing, but I probably won't try again with many other good options in town. read more

The acai bowls are good, but they are overpriced. If they were the most amazing acai bowls I've ever had, then I wouldn't mind paying the higher price. Since they are just average (and still highly priced) I will probably not come back. read more

I haven't been to union market since it was open. Made it my way here last week for some acai bowl fix. So glad I came. I got the California bowl with goji berry, and I love it, though it's on a liquid-y side for a bowl. It's probably best acai bowl I've had in DC, as an avid acai bowl chaser who's always looking for good acai bowls while traveling. The location has a limited menu and toppings (ie: bee pollen), but def worth coming if in the area. And the very friendly staff is a plus too!! read more

There's nothing more refreshing than a delicious açaí bowl on a hot summer day! South Block makes the best açaí bowls in the city. The staff here is wonderful and professional. The provide excellent customer service. This time, I got the PBJ Bowl. It is rich in texture and packed with flavor. The bowls are also very nutritious. For example, the mermaid bowl has an ingredient called blue majik. This ingredient is helpful to those suffering from joint pain. Love this spot. Used to be a regular when I lived up the street and came back for a visit so I thought I'd stop for a quick bowl. Great service and they have done an excellent way of adapting to covid regulations. Lou helped me out and was very kind and helpful. The man deserves a raise. Each of the bowls are delicious and I would highly recommend them. The only problem with South Block are their wait time is too long when you order online. I ordered online on a Saturday at 1:47 PM and selected for pick up. It took about 25 minutes for them to make it. Feels like a fruit bowl should take less time than that. read more

Delicious açaí bowls. I usually go to the location in Del Ray Alexandria, and I was disappointed that there were not as many bowls to choose from at this location. Anyway, I had a warrior bowl and like always, it was awesome. I will definitely go to my regular location though if I wanted to try something out of the ordinary with more options. Best granola ever here with the blend of different seeds and nuts. These açaí bowls are a great health conscious substitute for breakfast. Very filling. read more

Best acai bowls in 5th st by far. They have great service , they make them on the spot. Don't have to wait a long line to get the bowl and their constantly busy . South Block has the best bowls , plus they have a very good granola , very crispy and yummy . So I'm a huge granola girl but I was super impressed. I try going in the afternoon , to replace it for my lunch . Is very filling and the blueberries, bananas, are everything. The cashier gave my drink away. She didn't even call my name for it like she said that she would. She said oh, the other worker can just make me another one as if it was no big deal. I had been waiting 10 mins for my drink and she rings someone up and gives them my drink. So infuriating! First time experience too! Please tell her to get off her cellphone while she's interacting with customers. The customer service was awful as a previous customer before me had her order screwed up. She has a nut and granola allergy and specifically asked to not have it all. Other than that, I can say that I do like the smoothie. read more

Worse experience ever! Did not take long to take my order, but took entirely too long to complete my order. It was very unorganized!!! The cashier took several orders and the workers completed the orders out of turn. I saw people who ordered after me receive their orders before me. It was one lady that walked up and kept touching everyone order that was placed in the refrigerator, so I asked her why was she touching everyone's stuff during this pandemic. I also notified the staff of what she was doing. There were three employees working and the forth one that joined was not wearing gloves while preparing orders. After waiting 30 minutes, I asked to be refunded! They need some structure at this location! read more

The gem salad, the carrots and the steak fries were all very "meh," and the bisques seemed like small ciabatta buns rather than actual biscuits. All that aside, the biggest disappointment was unfortunately the ax ribeye - it wasn't cooked properly (despite asking for med-rate, depending on the bite, it ranged from medium to very rare), and it was really stringy and fatty - a major disappointment for a steakhouse. Deserts were delicious, I really enjoyed the ice cream cake and thought the peanut butter pie was good. Service was great, prompt and friendly. So I definitely wouldn't recommend this place as a statehouse based on my experience, but would consider coming for the salmon.

More surprisingly, it was one of the toughest steaks I have ever eaten. At $49, that is unacceptable. The mashed potatoes were equally disappointing: bland, not buttery, and nothing like the rich French pommes purée I expected. We also ordered the carrots, but they never arrived. At least we were not charged for them. The crème brûlée was good, but a good crème brûlée could not redeem the meal. The service was attentive and polished. The restaurant was also nearly empty at 5 p.m. on a Friday, with only one other table occupied inside and a few people outside, which in hindsight may have been a warning sign. Beautiful room, decent service, deeply disappointing food. I would not return.

I have been on a mission to find the best smoothie bowl in DC, and after trying several places over the past few weeks, I can officially say that South Block has taken the crown. I ordered the Mango Smoothie Bowl through Uber Eats, and from the moment I opened the bag, I knew I was in for a treat. The bowl arrived perfectly packaged, looked incredibly fresh, and was just as beautiful as if I had ordered it in the café. I customized my bowl with pistachio butter and chia seeds, and it was hands down one of the best combinations I have had. The mango base was thick, creamy, and bursting with fresh tropical flavor without being overly sweet. The pistachio butter added a rich, nutty finish that paired perfectly with the fruit, while the chia seeds provided the perfect amount of texture. What really impressed me, though, was the customization. One of my biggest pet peeves with smoothie bowl shops is getting charged every time you want to add something simple like chia seeds, agave, or honey. Those little charges add up fast! South Block offers several complimentary ways to customize your bowl, which made the entire experience feel much more customer friendly. It is nice to enjoy a place that focuses on giving guests options instead of nickel and diming them for every topping. Another thing worth mentioning is the portion size.
