I've been a fan of this place for many years, and yet, I feel terrible for not giving them enough credits they deserve. Their açaí bowls have been perfect for the summer season. Be warned: the menu may change. Yesterday, I came for my favorite treat: Almond Bowl. The bowl consisted of açaí puree as a base, almond butter atop of it, granola, cuts of banana, and finally, generous scoops of blueberries. Of course, I'd thrown in the generous amount of honey. Oh lawd, it never failed to satisfy my sweet tooth craving, and it's healthy! The invigorating effect left my body brimming with energy. Their service was very accommodating too, which earned my commendation. Once they become aware of my hearing loss, they quickly adapt to an alternative mode of communication, so they could notify me once my order was completed. I am allergic to pineapple and they only have one green smoothie on the menu here unlike other locations that have non-pineapple green smoothies. My wife and I have now been to this South Block location twice in the past month, and we love it! There is usually a bit of a line, but it makes sense such they make delicious acai bowls and smoothies. We have tried the warrior bowl and the PB bowl. The warrior bowl includes fresh cut strawberries and has a very fresh/crisp flavor and the PB bowl has peanut butter mixed with the açaí giving it a creamer feel. I love seeing that all the fruit is cut fresh as they make the bowls (which they make fast!). Also of note, the granola here is delicious which is what I believe separates this place from other places, so sweet and crunchy. Can't wait till we go back for our third trip :) read more

I like the idea of them putting the drinks in the cooler for pickup orders so they stay at the ideal temperature. The price is $8 for a smoothie, which is standard for the DC area. This was my first time trying an Açaí bowl and I was not disappointed! The shop is located in union market and it very cute and clean. Due to the location in the market there isn't much seating right by the restaurant stall, but if you walk around the market you will eventually find a seat. The açaí bowl itself was very good and refreshing! The fruit was very fresh, and seemed like it was very good quality. I got the warrior bowl, and the price for the bowl was about $11. It's very vegetarian and vegan friendly, and they had three different options for the açaí bowl as well as smoothies. One thing to keep in mind is that they are a CASHLESS OPERATION! My first acai bowl and it was pretty good. I have heard a lot of hype about the greatness of acai bowls. I agree that the acai bowl was very refreshing and healthy, but it seems like something that I could have made at home. I got the California bowl made with Strawberry Banana smoothie, which comes with Strawberry, Banana, and Blueberry toppings and granola. I think the toppings and granola help with the texture of the bowl because the smoothie seemed a little too runny for my liking. Another thing was that the smoothie was soooooo cold! Making it difficult to eat. The toppings were the lifesaver! In the end, I like that South Block has a bottle of chia seeds that you can add as many chia seeds as you like. The cashier took several orders and the workers completed the orders out of turn. I saw people who ordered after me receive their orders before me. I love love love the warrior bowl (+coconut). I sometimes stop by Union Market after my weekend long runs with my boyfriend and get one. Yes, it's usually crowded but that's a good sign! If the stand is crowded it must mean they are on to something good. I highly recommend stopping by.
