We approached this business with a sincere inclination to support it and extended that goodwill across three separate visits: an oil change, a second opinion on a purported carburettor issue (which proved entirely unfounded), and a subsequent diagnostic. On each occasion, we were instructed to deliver the vehicle at 8:00 a.m. with the assurance of an update within a few hours, or by midday at the latest. On each occasion, no communication was forthcoming. By mid-afternoon--only after initiating contact ourselves--we were informed that the vehicle had yet to be inspected. An isolated oversight might be overlooked; a pattern of this consistency cannot. More troubling still, these representations were made by the owner directly. Precision in communication and stewardship of a client's time are not aspirational virtues in a professional setting--they are the baseline. To repeatedly offer assurances so detached from operational reality reflects a standard of practice that is, at best, indifferent. We extended ample latitude in the expectation that the experience would right itself. It did not. Accordingly, we cannot recommend this business and will not be returning. read more

Yikes! I usually drive 25 min to Centennial for my mechanic but thought I would save time & give South Denver Automotive a try since they are 5 min from my house. I was looking for a closer, trustworthy mechanic but this was not it! I was looking for someone to change my radio fuse, and the guy on the phone quoted me $125 which was the same quote that I received at my trusted mechanic so I gave them a chance. When I picked up my car, my invoice was $200. The guy on the phone may have mistakenly given me a low estimate but definitely wasn't prepared to pay $200 to pop in a radio fuse. I let the guy who invoiced me know that and his response was like "What's the problem?" and my response was like "That's really expensive for a fuse, and I was quoted over the phone something lower." So I got overpriced for a fuse, I chalked it up to "City" Pricing. I can move on. However, about 7 months later, my car stalled on a mtn pass at night!! I took it to my trusted mechanic, and they said my battery, alternator, etc was fine...but they did notice that my connector was loose!! They didn't want to point any fingers and neither will I however, it's just too close of a coincidence for me to not think SD Automotive had a play on it since they were the last mechanic I took my car to. I've only taken my car to one mechanic in Centennial and will stick with them. Maybe they had something to do wiith it...maybe not...but risking my life and safety is not forgivable in my book, and I'm a pretty forgiving person lol. Pretty suspicious circumstances. Great customer service, as always! I purchased a windshield wiper blade from this O'Reilly location about three weeks ago. Today, I tried installing it myself but couldn't get it on properly. I returned to the store -- which wasn't busy at the time -- hoping for some quick assistance. Instead of being greeted, I had to interrupt "Sheila," who was watching something on her phone. I explained the situation, and her response was, "They shouldn't have let you walk out without installing it for you." I asked if she could help me, and she followed me out to my car and said, "Give me a minute." Several minutes passed. I went back inside and found her helping other customers, with no explanation or follow-up. No one else offered to help, either. Frustrated, I left and drove to South Denver Automotive Garage -- not even a mile away -- where I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in and the wiper blade was installed in less than five minutes. read more

I was very disappointed with South Denver Automotive. I thought I had found my new auto repair shop until they gave me an outrageous price to replace sparkplugs-$330!! A job I ended up doing myself in a half hour. I watched a video on YouTube and easily did it myself, though I'd never done it before. So if you subtract $75 for the cost of the spark plugs, the labor was $255 for a half hour. $500 an hour! How can they possibly justify that, when I asked up front what they charge an hour. I was told the high end of fixing something more complicated would be approximately $200/hr. I was told by South Denver Automotive that "everyone else charges that". I am done with these guys. I have taken my 4 cars here for over 15 years and I am finally through with them. I was told to stay away by my friends and I did not. Took my truck in to have a camera short repaired. Received a call today at 722 AM. Scott? starts yelling at me "You did not tell me you had an aftermarket radio" Me, calmly " I did not know that was an issue" (Camera Issue pre-rates the stereo) Scott "We can't work on your car if someone else has worked on it.?" Me "Okay" Scott "Well we'll have to take apart your whole dash" Me calmly "OK" Scott agitated "Well I don't know how much that will cost...It will be like $350 for us to look at it" Me, "Never mind I'll pick it up." So, what is it? You can't work on it or you can for $350. Seems to me he was throwing a number out for me to go away. And now I have. I probably would have paid the $350 for them to look at it if Scott was not so flippant and seemingly pulling a number out of the air. Scott, you need to work on your customer service skill. I was recommended this place by a friend, wish I would have just done my own research. The prices I was quoted were so much more than another shop 5 minutes away I ended up getting a second opinion at, some as much as 3x the price. They also told me I needed parts i ended up not needing in order to get an alignment the other place was able to do it just fine without it. The report they gave me was pretty detailed and were nice enough and did have a lot sooner available appointments than other places (maybe for a reason?). I just would not recommend this if you are on a budget and are trusting them to do just what is truly needed. read more

They called me back 3 times with new issues they found and I obliged because I trusted them. Got my car back and less than a week later my check engine light was back with the exact same code. Brought our car in with a slow oil leak. They told us nothing registered on the dipstick and that the prior place we had the oil changed at must not have put an oil in it (which was a few weeks prior), so they proceeded to add 6 quarts. When the car wouldn't run we took it to another shop and they found instantly that South Denver Auto had overfilled it because they drained over 10 quarts of oil out. I had numerous conversations with 2 different managers and finally had to send a private message to the owner, only for him to tell me there was nothing he could do, BUT they did learn a valuable lesson to always drain the oil regardless of what the dipstick says. I have been going to Steve's shop since 1995. He has managed to keep a few of the most beat up pieces of crap running for years at a relatively reasonable prices. I need to put some emphasis on pieces of crap vehicles that I used to drive. They also did a great job on our BMW which wasn't such a junker. A part fell off my car. It fell off in traffic. I wasn't able to retrieve it, but I got a good look at it. Sort of concerned about the importance of said part, I stopped by the closest shop, which happened to be S. Denver Auto Service. Here's how it went down: me: "My car is a heap. A part fell off. Can you take a look" them: "Sure! We'll look at it right away." I was expecting a long wait. I was expecting to get some guff about my heap. I was expecting a joke about how I didn't know what fell off, etc. None of that happened. I grabbed a cup of coffee, settled in for what I thought would be an hour or two, and 30 minutes later: them: "Hey, we checked out your car and we think it was just a retaining ring for the exhaust manifold heat shield" me: "OK great - how much do I owe you?" them: "No charge." me: "Seriously? I gotta pay you guys something..." them: "No. Just tell your friends about us." me: ".... (dumbstruck)" Suffice to say, I'm a big fan of this shop now. Some other notes: - Very clean (always a great sign) - Very professional - Very friendly - The shop looks dealership quality I think this is one of those great little shops that everyone loves. Just had my first experience yesterday and it was absolutely horrendous. So bad this is my first yelp review. This place found an issue with replacing my oxygen sensor which is understandable and I asked them to stop and leave my car as it was. They told me they'd speak with me about a quote for another repair when I came to get it. When I showed up no one spoke with me about the quote instead someone just informed me part of my grill came off when they popped my hood and they also mentioned they weren't an auto body shop so they couldn't fix it and that they had just put the piece in the back of my car....I was very disappointed and left. Then the owner called and tried to offer to buy a new one and the shop would put it on...even though I was told they aren't an auto body shop and don't do that...anyway that meant me bringing my car back to the shop which will never happen. Today I assessed the damage and they were all clean breaks in the grill which means they forced the hood open and didn't reach under to release the latch. This was all their doing which a decent shop would've taken ownership of. Don't take your car here they can't even open a hood. Samantha Update on this post. Having very little experience with auto repair, I am always reticent to trust folks to give me a good deal and do a satisfactory job with keeping my car running smoothly. This place is the ONLY place I will go to in the future for car-related needs. I could not be happier. I'm a money-conscious student with a 2001 Honda. The car has been running perfectly since I bought it about 6 years ago, so I was dismayed when the other day, my brakes started making an awful "nails-on-chalkboard" kind of sound. I pulled over to the first random auto shop I could find, but when I got in the the car with an employee for a drive around the block, we were perplexed when the noise simply stopped.The employee was exasperated and told me to come back if I had a "real issue". THEN, I pulled over at this place. I will never go anywhere else. Not only was the staff friendly, personable, warm, and funny, they knew EXACTLY what was wrong with my vehicle even though the sound coming from the brakes had stopped. Janet, one of the shop's owners, drove me home and told me the story of how her family had owned the business for about a decade. My car was repaired the next day, I got a discount coupon without even asking, and they graciously helped me work out a payment plan. Love this shop! I found them on accident... A couple of years ago, my a/c went out just before 100+ degree temps. While not my first priority, i was looking for somewhere convenient to work so I could still work and not be stuck waiting. Starting with the easiest thing first, they charged my system... but a couple of days later, the problem reared its ugly head again. They found that it was a - i want to say resistor - that was bad. Part replaced and problem solved. Just recently, I had some front end noise that was making me crazy. I knew it wasn't engine noise or just road noise - I suspected wheel bearings. I took it in and sure enough, wheel bearings on one side and axle bearings on the passenger side. They got me fixed right away. While the local warehouse did not have the axle parts, i was able to pick up my car and return a couple of days later when the parts came in. The folks will also shuttle you to/from work or home (distance within reason, of course) which is most helpful... Thank you guys!!! read more

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE SERVICE. I'd rather let my car grind to a halt then come here again. Brought my car in for a simple oil change with scambook oil change coupons. I made an appointment, dropped my car, and informed them that the check engine light was on. Although their scampons guarantee a free maintenance check, they told me it would be be $60 to simply check the light (autozone does it for free). Then it gets worse. After getting a ride and hustling home from work, I show up at 5:25pm to pick up my car. They are supposed to be open until 5;30 but he shop was deserted with my car locked inside. No phone call, no notice, nothing. Their digital sign/clock outside still read 5:28 after I had called the shop, thrown a mini tantrum, and taken a picture with my phone. These guys are as amateur as they come. You've been advised. Buy the scampons at your own and risk. Better yet, just stay the hell away from South Denver Automotive. THEY SUCK read more

This shop is in my neighborhood. I have used them on and off for the past two and half years. There's been a few hip cups in the past but they have always made their oversights better. Extra trips are never convenient but at least everything was taking care of. The owner and general manager are very good people. The desk is now ran by a young man by the name of Shelby. He's a bit on the colder side, at least in my experience. I have a 16 year old car that I absolutely love. It is in need of some extensive care. I saved up for what I had been given estimates on what the repairs might cost. Unfortunately, when I took my car in to have the work done Shelby told me that I was looking a a minimum of $200 for them to diagnose my repairs before they even could get started on the repairs themselves. That cost on top of the estimated $1500 for my actual repairs seemed just too much. Having shared my experience with some of my neighbors I am now hearing the same type of stories from them. I'm all for supporting local business' but there's only so much one can take before things just don't seem fair. read more

I took my truck in for an oil change on December 19, 2012. A couple days later I had horrible fumes coming into my truck when I had left it for a few minutes to warm up. Then I noticed I had a huge puddle of oil on my drive way. I decided to check my oil to see what was going on. They had left my oil cap sitting upside down on the engine...they never put the cap back on after replacing the oil!! Everything under the hood of my truck was covered in oil and I now have a huge oil stain on my brand new drive way. Not to mention I almost ran my truck out of oil and destroyed the engine. I immediately felt as though this was a place where I can pay a fair price and receive respect, service and reliability in return. Almost every time I come in, Shelby or Steve takes care of me, and seeing the same people taking pride in their work puts me more at ease. I now trust them with everything else on top of the basic oil change. They honestly explain any problems they find, always asking what questions I have. It's important to me to find a place that is professional, fair and reliable, and I think I've found that in South Denver Automotive. Not sure what has happened with this place! We've been taking our cars and trucks here for years, and today was very disappointing. While doing a usual service for oil change and tire rotation, they all of a sudden found a ton of other things wrong just to up sell us on repairs. My brother was a mechanic and I used to hate when he treated his women customers this way. Shame on you all for changing things so drastically so that I had to write this horrible review! Not to mention the new "reminder" sticker that is permanently attached to my window! Now I have to spend extra time with goof off to remove it!
