We've been a few times now and the environment has always been Inviting, the staff is Friendly and Knowledgeable, and the food was Outstanding. We were skeptical at first because we'd heard mixed reviews from others, but were pleasantly surprised when we decided to try it for ourselves. The food (my experience was with the Shrimp and Grits & Cajun Alfredo w/ Shrimp) was on par with any of the other more expensive restaurants we've tried in the area but at a better price. And the location, albeit a bit weird to get into until you're used to the turn-off, was Phenomenal overlooking bay and Pensacola Bay Bridge (even better if you go at night for the lighting up of the bridge). I had my 17th birthday here and it was such a great experience overall! The patio view was so prettyperfect for celebrating with my friends and family. The food was amazing, everyone loved what they ordered and had no complaints! The only downsides were that the drinks tasted a little watered down and the sodas were pretty flat. If I wasn't exclusively seeking gluten free fare, I would have never believed that what I was eating was celiac friendly! We shared the fish bites and ordered seconds. Stopped in for brunch on Saturday around 11:15. Surprisingly, it wasn't very busy. We were sat immediately. The waitress Kaylee was super friendly and observant. She offered a couple of recommendations when we were split between a couple of appetizers and entrees. She made sure to keep our drinks full and was on top of it if we needed condiments or accoutrements with our meals. Now, the bottomless mimosas is a great draw! I also ordered a spicy blackberry margarita and it was delightful. We ordered the tuna dip, chicken & waffles, and bacon jam burger. The tuna dip was what you'd expect. The chicken and waffles lacked flavor; it was supposed to have a spicy honey syrup, but it was neither spicy nor had any hints of honey. They chicken was a good size and fried nicely, but it was very bland. The burger was great! It was juicy and thick, and the onions were perfectly cooked. We sat on the patio, so the views of the bay and bridge were nice. We'll go back, especially for the service and drinks. It lacked actual grits, very mushy and saucy. If I did return it would be to have some of their local draft beers and enjoy the view of the gulf. Came here for Sunday brunch at 10:45am. Yes, it was a little busy so I'll give them that but not all the tables were occupied. We did have to get the managers attention since our server dropped off our food. The appetizer (oysters Gregory) came out pretty fast and was prob the best part of our meal. We all ordered fish entrees and all agreed they were very salty that three of us barely ate our meals. Also, paid extra for the bayfront style but there was no crab meat in the sauce. The manager came over and said they must've scooped both of ours from the bottom? Anyways, the manager resolved it immediately. Had Sunday Brunch today. Our server Kyle could not have been more attentive nor accommodating. We sat outside, it was a beautiful day! My friend had the chicken and waffles. She thoroughly enjoyed them and had more than enough to bring home. I had the Market Breakfast. I had asked for my eggs over medium. Over medium eggs should be firm egg whites with somewhat runny yolks. The eggs whites were so runny I couldn't eat them. The server was great and brought a new order for me. This time the yolks were fully cooked. It was very disappointing. But on the bright side, the bacon, biscuit and potatoes were delicious. Who needs eggs! We were looking for a restaurant to celebrate an occasion in Pensacola on New Year's Day, a lot of places were closed, and we decided to give South Market a try. Overall it was a good choice. We made a reservation (we didn't need it as the place was really slow). That said, the service was very good, so was most of the food. We started with the cheese & artichoke dip appetizer, different than most versions I've had, but very tasty. Then came the entrees, I ordered their shrimp and grits, which was really different. The grits are of the blue corn variety and there is a plethora of flavours incorporated into the dish; very good! My wife ordered their chicken piccata. The chicken itself was good, but the meal was not great, the truffle mashed potatoes were a bit overpowering for the piccata sauce. Would have been much better served with a rice pilaf or angel hair pasta. We finished off the evening with dessert. We shared their bread pudding, and couldn't finish it. It was sooo good! Over the top! If it wasn't for the accompaniment with the chicken, coupled with how loud the place is, even when it's almost empty, South Market might have been a five star spot! read more

The dessert, a Cookie Skillet was undercooked and terrible. I didn't say anything but the server & manager removed the charge from the bill. That was very generous and appreciated. We placed our order around 1:00 and our food did not arrive until about 1:50. None of us ordered anything that should have taken remotely this long. There was a table near us who got up and left due to their order taking so long to arrive. My grouper was not hot - it was lukewarm at best. Both orders of meatloaf were also not hot. The biscuits from the biscuits and gravy were dry. The fries were good and hot. But everything else was just extremely average. I don't like being critical of local restaurants. We came here after scuba diving 20 min away. We wanted some fresh seafood and this was the perfect stop. You can get fish cooked in different styles. We had the grouper bites for an appetizer and grouper cooked creole style which is blackened with the sauce. Delicious! Highly recommend getting the grits on the side. Ended the meal with the chocolate cake which has a creamy mousse in the middle. Perfect lunch to end our activity with. Service was fast and friendly with a beautiful view!
