We used to get cheesesteaks here in the past and they were exactly like back home in Philly. Got them tonight.....awful. Mush. Meat was so over chopped it was indistinguishable as meat. Well, I'm not sure where to begin. My husband's favorite is always a philly cheesesteak, me not so much. Mainly b/c the beef is chewy. Now, with that being said, OMG! Out doing errands, my hubby's birthday to boot, he chose South Philly as it'd been a long time since he had one. I've never had one from here; [he used to go with coworkers for lunch and missed their food]. So, he got the traditional Philly, I got the Ruben Philly, and of course loaded cheese fries. Two meals easy, for us both, lol. The meat is the most tender meat I've/ we've ever had at a restaurant. Both were outstanding! In the past, we paid twice at a sit down restaurant on the island where we live, for the exact order, it was pitiful. The comparison is unmistakably mute. South Philly will be now and forever, the only place I personally get a Ruben sandwich, and hubby has always said their Philly cheesesteaks are the best he ever had and now I'm a believer as well! But the standout winner in the joint is the fries. Hand cut, twice cooked, simply among the best I have ever had, anywhere. No matter what you order...get the fries! And for an extra punch of flavor, ask for their Southwest ranch dressing for dipping. My only quibble is that their deli style subs are a bit short on the deli part. Growing up outside Phili I'm always looking for a great cheesesteak. Frankly, this place fell short but not bad. It's a bit of a mush! They chop the 'steak' so much along with onions; although sparse and a great deal of cheese. The roll was terrific. Clean and attractive. My waiter was a little too friendly...sweetie or whatever constantly but efficient and accommodating. Visited the new location downtown and it was amazing! Super friendly and helpful staff and quick service. We had the Phillys of course but also the loaded fries and milkshakes. The garlic loaded fries are amazing and like a meal themselves. They have lots of options for milkshake flavors and offered to custom blend anything combo we wanted. I think the folks here may actually be from Philly or at least they learned to cook there. This place is small and very crowded at lunch time and with good reason, the food is just downright delicious. For under ten bucks you can get a loaded 6" Philly cheesesteak sandwich and fries. The fries, and there are a bunch of them, vary in size, texture and taste with just the right amount of salt. The menu is somewhat limited given the inherent nature of the place, but everything is tasty. They offer beer and wine too. The bread is soft, just as it should be. And the peppers have just a touch of heat...perfect. Service is friendly. The only drawback is that everything is made to order so be prepared to wait, but to me the wait is worth it. Just don't pop in at lunchtime and think you are in a fast food restaurant...you will be disappointed. But if you want a good Philly cheesesteak, this the ticket! Make sure you order it loaded to really enjoy the experience. I understand this is there second location, based on the quality of this place I expect we will see more of them as time goes along. read more

Stopped and got a few cheesesteaks for dinner...well the other people that are with me loved them. I thought they were ok. The steak was chopped up way too much for my taste, it was the consistency of a sloppy joe with what seemed like extra cheese. Ugh! They did put a lot (a lot) of meat in the buns, though having the right meat to bun ratio is very important! The hot peppers they put in theirs adds a bit of heat to the sandwich, not really philly style. I was so excited to see this place open as it is in between my moms and my place and I pass this location all the time I could wait for it to open. I finally went by when I was hungry the other day and my first surprise was the price. I thought, Wow, for this price it must be a really good cheese steak. I live only about 5 minutes away and work from home so I got it to go. It was still nice and hot when I got home. Now I have had some great cheese steaks, many from Philly and surrounding areas. This was not one of them. Although perhaps not traditional, I like mushrooms, onions and green peppers and a little mayo. Everything was chopped so fine I could barely detect the onions, didn't really see any peppers and saw a couple of mushrooms. The whole thing was just the consistency of mush. I was glad I was home so I could add salt and pepper because it didn't have much flavor or seasoning. The only reason I didn't give it one star was because the bread was decent. I got an 8 inch and my bill was $10.33, which I think is a bit high for an 8-inch cheesesteak with no drink. Ok this restaurant went in a while ago & is only a mile & a half from my house so I drive by every day, we finally stopped in on Saturday night to check it out as I love Philly's & have tried them several places in town. Let me say, if I could give them 10 stars, I would! I had the original philly (added green peppers), my son had the buffalo chicken. By FAR the BEST I have ever had! Tons of filling, no gristle, when they say hot peppers, they mean HOT. (As hot or hotter than jalapeños so if u don't like spicy, ask them to leave those out or do them light). The chicken in the chicken Phillys is shaved also, not cubed like some places. My son loved his too. Now, the hand cut fries...hands down again...the BEST! My husband ordered a burger & curly fries & fried mushrooms. The curly fries were the only disappointment. They were spiral cut shoestring potatoes with no breading like a normal curly fry & super greasy. The sweet potato fries were just ok. The regular hand cut are the way to go!! (Onion rings looked good but we didn't have those) This is my new favorite place & I'm going back tomorrow! Would've been sooner but they are closed on Sundays then closed today for Christmas. I don't do a lot of reviews but this was worth the time!! They also have many flavors of handspun milkshakes & malts but we didn't have one that night. Nice staff! Small place, but we got ours to go. went in to pick up a bite squad order and when i grabbed it i was amazed that it was ready so fast! the fat brunette manager scoffed at me and said "well it's been sitting here for twenty minutes" - red flag #1. i accepted the order as soon as it came up and it took me 15 minutes to drive across town to get it. i'm sitting there trying to figure out something with my bite squad app and then i ask where the bathroom is and she rudely tells me where it is. as soon as she thinks i'm out of earshot she goes "i don't know why the f*ck she's just standing there like an idiot when she has the order already" - red flag #2. so i finish in the bathroom and walk out, telling her "i know you hate your job, but next time you wanna talk sh*t, do it to my face" and she just goes "okay". no apology for being rude, nothing. i don't know if she was mad because she can't see her toes but i will NEVER be returning to this location. when i see you though it's on sight since you have so much attitude. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. food is great but the manager just ruined it 100%. switch her out and i'll fix my rating. read more
