I know my way around a sandwich, and I have to say the offerings at NWB in downtown Plainfield are some of the best around. Look for the blue & white house on Lockport St, and you'll know you've found it. NWB doesn't take reservations, however you can join an online waitlist. Park on the street or in a small lot adjacent to the building. The beer selection is fantastic, a pint ($8) never disappoints although I usually lean towards a Hefeweizen or pilsner with my meal. Yeah yeah, I know this is a WHISKEY bar, but yours truly doesn't do the brown liquor.....bad experience with Jägermeister as a kid. For appetizers, the cheese curds ($14) are pricey but oh-so-worth it. They come with a cilantro aioli and we get an order of these every single visit. The cauliflower popcorn ($11) is also a very worthy choice for starters; roasted and seasoned cauliflower florets are served with a sumptuous clarified butter. Their house NWB Burger ($16.50) is a busy affair, with pork belly, bbq sauce, onion straws and cheese curds on a pretzel bun. The Big Jer ($15.25) is a much simpler yet equally stellar burger with 2x4oz patties, lettuce, tomato, and Merkt's cheddar spread served with a pickle spear. I recently tried the Suribachi ($15.50) and it blew my mind. A 1/2lb patty is lightly fried in tempura batter, then topped with pepperjack cheese, wasabi coleslaw and sriracha on a brioche bun. Next time, I'm giving the El Toro a shot (pickled habaneros, corn guac). My wife loves the pork belly mac ($16), a good portion of cheesy cavatappi pasta with crispy pork belly. Their Cubano ($15) is solid and the Taylor Street panini ($15) is a tasty Italian grinder, with prosciutto, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato and olive spread on focaccia bread. NWB's homemade chips are amazing, I always opt for them instead of fries (which are also great). Bread = 5+ Circuses = 4.5 Service has been generally fine, but last visit it took a long time for our server to come by initially. The inside of this converted house is somewhat cramped so if the weather allows, I suggest dining 'al fresco'. Their outdoor patio definitely passes the vibe check. I honestly can't decide whose doughnuts are better, Empire in Naperville or Next Whiskey Bar's. It might be a tie! In any case, we ALWAYS end a meal here with the fried doughnuts ($11) that come with a heavenly whiskey caramel sauce for dipping. * TL;DR * In my mind, NWB stands for "Nirvana, With Burgers". Everything we've gotten here has exceeded expectations. Cheese curds, cauliflower popcorn, pork belly pasta, doughnuts and of course burgers all stand out. I would get the Suribachi again in a HEARTBEAT. The ambiance is ideal for date night and small groups, and with a small dining area that fills up fast, come early or expect a wait. Next Whiskey Bar is one of my favorite restaurants in the western suburbs, I highly recommend them.

The food is good, but I've had several confrontations with them which is the true testament on a business's real beliefs, values, and integrity. Latest incident happened this morning. Bus boy had his hand underneath his shirt, scratching his armpits--so I was going to take a picture and show management when I left. I pulled the phone out, but decided not to take the picture after all when I couldn't get a good angle. 10 minutes later Villain Lady (60's, blond, curly hair) came up to me and basically insinuated I was a pedophile because I was taking pictures of children. OMG!!! Offered to show her my phone but she declined. Then I proceeded to tell her other bad experiences I had there (server falsely telling me adding peppers and onions to hashbrowns was free, buttering my toast on two occasions after stating not to, repeatedly having to request hot sauce and extra napkins)....in other words not really good service and certainly a total disregard to listening to patrons. Villain Lady would not even listen even though she brought it up. Then she stated I was yelling and screaming, totally embarrassed me even more, and then told me to leave. As I said, the food is good but if you think I'm full of BS, just make up something and see how they react. Tell them you weren't happy with your food and see if they offer you a refund or discount. State that you saw an employee not wash his hands (yes I did!!!). Just talk to Villain Lady I'm referring to and see her attitude because she is really a nasty, bad apple. read more

As a lifelong resident of the city of Plainfield I have always felt it important to support my community whenever possible. There are many dining choices within our town, and since opening, my family has supported Southern Belle's. The food is fantastic, and service is unparalleled making it an easy choice for where I prefer to spend my hard earned money. I recently started a small business within the community, and regularly have lunch appointments and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately on the morning of November 16th everything changed. Having just finished another meal and paying my bill at the crowded hostess stand, I attempted to submit your regular coupon and was denied. The hostess explained that my coupon was expired and would not under any circumstance be accepted. Furthermore your manager on duty was adamant in telling me in front of many customers that she would not accept any expired coupon. Not only was I embarrassed, but as a regular customer I felt disappointed in the unprofessional manner your manager handled herself. Having started a company, I know what it takes to earn business, and value the business that I have worked so hard to establish. Unfortunately due to this circumstance, I have no intention of bringing my business back to Southern Belle's. read more

Just went to Southern Belles breakfast spot with my sisters out here in Plainfield. & I don't think I've ever been so livid in my life. As we're going to pay our bills we pull up our vouchers on groupon ($15 food voucher for $8 - couldn't pass it up). My sister pays and as I'm giving the lady my receipt the rude manager approaches us yelling "you can only use one per table." I'm confused as to why she just walked over here talking to me in that tone. so I'm calmly telling her we were unaware of that. She begins getting louder and starts trying to belittle me continuing to yell across the counter. Then, the lady behind me starts chiming in, "yea you can only use one." Im in disbelief that this lady is all in my business to begin with, nobody asked her a question. so I'm like well first off why are you using this tone with us, we just approached y'all unaware of the stipulation. Instead of her understanding her approach is all bad she continues yelling and the lady behind me continues chiming in with her two cents. Never have I been so pissed off. Never again will I be in that restaurant. The manager is racist and has no problem with letting it be known. Don't go there, ever. read more

After calling and being told by "sherry" we seat until 2:45 walked in at 2:42. Maybe next time over the phone you should say we stop seating at 2:45 and you have to have your order in by 2:45. The manger here is awful! My children and I were waiting to pick up an order that we couldn't place online due to a change in their policy over using a Groupon. The manager decided my children were being an inconvenience and were yelling at them to not play and I should be controlling them because she didn't get to play as a child.
