I was warned about this place before hand, but to install one brake light bulb which didn't even require removing any lens or other part and took all of five minutes to install they charged me over sixty dollars. It's unfathomable that the owner gets away with such nonsense. I also found out that proprietors have a way of having honest negative reviews removed from yelp. That explains why there are none. The guy is a ripoff. Be very careful. There are honest repair shops in Ashland, unfortunately this is not one of them. read more

My father-in-law gave us his 1991 Suburban and there was an issue with the acceleration that my husband could not figure out. He asked many of the other auto repair places around Ashland if they could help and they wouldn't deal with any car older than a 1995 or of American make. When he called Southern Oregon Automotive, they were very knowledgeable and ready to help us out. They offer a free Diagnostic test on any year, make or model which was great news for us. The service station guys were great to deal with and spoke in terms that I could understand with very reasonable pricing. My husband and I would definitely recommend this location for any type of repairs needed to your car. read more

Please consider allowing Southern Oregon Automotive to fill that roll if you ever find yourself in need of service or repair in Ashland, OR. My son's vehicle fried a radiator (see review this page) and while he was letting it cool I offered to locate a mechanic. When I called they said to have him bring it in and they would help him out. Over the years as I was transferred to new commands in the service I have broken down in various cities and was taken to the cleaners. There was none of that at Southern Oregon Automotive. They were able to get him in and out at a very fair price. I mean extremely fair. I can not recommend them more highly! read more

Paid them nearly $600 to replace worn upper and lower ball joints with 160k miles on them, with new 1AAuto ball joints with 1AAuto serial number stamped on the top of them. Upon receiving the car I checked the uppers immediately and they were the one I provided them with the 1AAuto serial numbers. A little later I was under the car and noticed the lower ball joints had worn boots and leaking grease. I approached Les Schwab to inspect and evaluate the age and mileage on the ball joints and they provided written testimony that the uppers were new and the lowers were not. I then took the car back the Southern Oregon Automotive and the owner had the mechanic do the work get under the car and see if they were old and worn. He came up muttering they were worn, but the owner said I would not get a refund because of my attitude. Yes, I was hot, wouldn't you be?!? Anyway I am filing my claim with small claims now, with 3rd party testimony, the old worn parts, the 1AAuto receipts for new parts and proof of their serial numbers. I will be refunded for labor not done, new parts not returned, and my filing fees, which I will gladly pay upfront. Would you want to go through this? They also crossthreaded a bolt and left a brake hose clamp off. They are dangerously/incompetently unqualified to work on cars, and will do wrongful things you may never know had been done until too late!! I am a mechanic and I took the tires off and checked the break pads on my friends car - Rotors were good pads were getting low so I suggested she have them replace the pads and because the check engine light was on have them read the code... They charged a diagnose fee and I have papers here for a New Transmission $3889.38 - Transmission service $169.95- Trans axle Assembly $748.00 - Brake Brake Rotors $96.90 x (4) = $387.60 - pad sets $46.65 (2) = $93.30 , Labor for brakes $170.00 There is no need for a 5 thousand dollar transmission and over $650 for brake pads ? Cheating Rascals trying to rip off a elderly woman. Shame on you ! I cleared the code and car runs great - no problems .. read more

Worst service EVER! Do not take your car here. Boycott this garage, they have the worst customer service ever. I took my car in for a leaking oil filter housing after taking it 2 times to sears and it still leaked. All they did the first time was replace the gasket and it still leaked, even though I told them this did not fix the problem before, yet they failed to look further to find out what the true problem was. The car still leaked so we took it back again, and they looked at it, then walked away to talk to each other where they thought we couldn't see them, rolled their eyes and said to each other that their gasket was perfect (despite it leaking). The second time they finally took off the housing and found 2 small cracks in it (wow, should of checked it the first time.) It took them four days to "fix" it the second time. They never called me once to see what I wanted to do. When we called in we found out that it would take an unknown amount of time for the car to be done because they messed up and ordered the wrong part. Then they ordered a used junk yard part (never asking if I wanted to pay more for a new one). After 3 days I called into to see the progress and they said there were 3 cars ahead of me and I might get it back the following week, till I went down there to watch over them until they finished it that day. After they finished I expressed that I wish they would have done it right (checked the leaking part) the first time and they screamed at me, threatened me to get out or they would kick my ass. I wish that was the end of it, but it is still leaking and they won't even look at it again. I wish I could give them less than 1 star. I called the owner and he said that he didn't need to honor their guarantee, wouldn't give us our money back, and didn't care if we wrote a bad review on Yelp or Facebook because those sites were just "for hippies". I've never had an auto repair place fail to call to give an update on service, or refuse to honor their guarantee, or threaten me with violence before. Please avoid this shop at all costs. read more
