This is the only Chinese we get for take out. Food is good. Fresh, hot. I order our fried rice with a couple of substitutions, never an issue. So... This may not be the best Chinese food in Statesboro, which might be Great Wall restaurant. But Southern Palace has something going on that I have almost never seen, and that is that Southern Palace has lunch specials on the weekend. It's hard to know what I'm comparing, since the lunch special on the weekend is too cheap to pass up so I only got the really cheap food here and nothing fancy or full price. Anyway, lunch specials: There are a whole bunch of them, and you can get them on the weekend, and lunch is 11:30-3:30, so it's a big long lunch specials time. Lunch special comes with a styrofoam clamshell with food in the big compartment and rice (fried or steamed, your choice) in both small compartments, then a spring roll or egg roll, then your choice of soup (egg drop, sweet and sour, or wonton), a baggie of fried things to put on the soup, and a fortune cookie. The fried rice is kind of dismal. It's got a tiny bit of chopped up egg in it, but nothing else. It's rice fried rice. Not pork fried rice. Not veggie fried rice. Basically just rice with nothing else in it. Soups are kind of ho hum. Egg roll is pretty good. Entrees are pretty good. For feeding a group, it's pretty good because cheap to get several flavors and you get a lot so if someone is extra hungry there's the rice and soups. Lunch specials is a pile of food for an affordable price. I can't eat one by myself all at once for sure. Pretty fast service and also many of the foods will be freshly cooked when you order. I would strongly recommend to call and place the order, then go over after you order for no wait if you time your travel right. I'm not sure whether the full price meals are nicer than the lunch specials. They cost more. So maybe they are nicer. Has a drive through window for picking up takeout. read more

So great that this place has a drive-thru order during COVID. Got a lot of dishes for takeout. Love their mapo tofu and Singapore style mei fun. Very large portions as well. Certainly the best Chinese food in town. I love their new location. They're very conveniently located downtown on Main Street in the old Taco Bell building. Nice decor/ambiance. The location gets a little busy for lunch, but is very quiet for dinner. It's still owned by the same family, which is great because love supporting locally owned businesses. Food is always fresh and quickly served. I've had a number of dishes here and they were all excellent. I particularly like their beef with broccoli, garlic sauce dishes, and egg rolls. Main dishes come with rice and a soup of your choice (wonton, hot & sour, or egg drop). Service is always very friendly and I enjoy that they bring you fried wonton chips and duck sauce while you wait for your food. read more

Going to lay it down here: HOT AND SOUR SOUP!!! I can order the large bowl for 3 dollars and coinage and I'm in Heaven! They use pepper or white pepper, no pepper flakes to get caught in your teeth. Ask for pepper oil if you want it hotter, or duck sauce if (like me) you want HOT AND SWEET AND SOUR SOUP! If you've seen my rant about buffet 'chinese' fear no more; they prepare great food that comes straight to the table roasting hot and fresh! Someone else said frozen egg rolls are better than the ones here...more power to you; I'll take the crispy fresh one that comes with my hot and sour soup and lunch time meal. This is my absolute go to Chinese place. If I'm craving an americanized dish like General Tso's chicken, thats where its the best. By far the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I ordered my meal and did not receive it until over an hour later. When it arrived it was the wrong food. When I called to inform them the lady was not willing to do ANYTHING but say sorry. I was willing to wait for them to deliver the correct order but after I was talked to with such disrespect I decided to have a refund instead. The person I spoke to refused to put the manager on the phone until I would not drop the matter. The manager then proceeded to raise her voice and talk to me even more disrespectful than the first person. She said that they were "Too busy to bring me food. If I wanted a refund, it was MY responsibility to go to the restaurant the NEXT day." I was also told to bring the food with me to prove that I had not eaten it. She then proceeded to hang up on me. I was able to call my bank and cancel the transaction. Later that evening the lady showed up banging on my door. I saw that she was outside with a receipt. I grabbed the food to return it and she yanked it out of my hand and gave me my receipt. I am not the type of person to post poor reviews but this was the most disgusting customer service I have ever experienced. read more
