This place has a lot of hype and, unfortunately, I'm just not sure why. I tried the bulgogi kimbap, commoners rice, cucumber salad. I didn't enjoy any of them. The kimbap was bland. I don't like how the pork belly was cooked in the commoners rice, but that's probably more of a personal preference. I thought the fat was chewy and gross. The cucumber salad was way too oily and the flavor was off. Overall, my family liked the commoners rice the best, though. I know it's a small space, but it just felt uncomfortable in there. Yelp works!! This place popped up on my "local picks near you" feed while I was sitting in the car waiting for my wife to finish shopping in IKEA. A nice detour from my usual In N Out runs. Quality/Quantity - Shrimp & Pork Spring Roll - The sauce is amazing! Perfect combination of peanut butter and spice! Had a slight kick to it. There are other ingredients in their sauce also because it tasted different to what I am accustomed to, but in a good way. Spam Kimbap - Their kimbaps are huge! Thank you! Cute little shop we happened to stumble upon. They do have pretty limited seating. The tables only fit 2 people comfortably, but there is bar seating available. Some items are part of the grab-n-go menu, where they're prepared ready for consumption. Like the braised pork belly and the kimbap. I also picked up an order of the cucumbers, which I found to be nice and refreshing. The pork belly (commoners rice) tasted like something you'd make at home, so it has a sense of nostalgia with every bite. Ordered the kimchi fried rice and the xiu mai. I've made 3 attempts to try to grab some of their Kimbap and premade meals. The first two times failed (out of stock and a huge line on a weekend). On a Monday morning at 9, I found myself as one of the first few customers and successfully got two Kimbaps and a meal. - Bulgogi Kimbap: so flavorful with the shiso leaf! I absolutely love how tightly packed it is. - Spam Kimbap: definitely a fun take with lovely flavors as well. - Pork belly with quail egg: I grew up eating this because my mom made it all the time. It's definitely comfort food for me, and I love that they include pickled veggies to go along with it, which definitely cuts the richness and fattiness! I've been able to visit Southside Super twice when visiting Sacramento, and both times I loved it! For my recent visit, I got the spam kimbap & braised beef short ribs. The spam kimbap is so simple, but super delicious. Worth grabbing. The braised beef short rib was also super good! The sauce was rich in flavor, and the beef and potatoes were melt in your mouth. Kimchi was a good side to to help balance all that heavy rich flavors. Service is also super friendly too. I've been wanting to stop at Southside Super since they first opened. I love Korean and Vietnamese cuisine and it's so fun that they serve both here. They have a small parking lot, which makes stopping by so much easier. There is also street parking, but when I visited the street parking was pretty crowded but the lot had plenty of spaces. It's a really small space, but they make the most of it. They have bar seating where you can dine in and a hot case and cold case with food and drink options that you can enjoy there or take out. The check out area is in the back of the store as well. I ended up picking up Spam Kimbap, Beef Bulgogi Japchae, and Pork and Shrimp Spring Rolls. The Kimbap was a sizable roll and was wrapped nicely and pre-sliced which made it super easy to eat when I got home. The individual pieces held up well and each bite had a great balance of ingredients. It tasted so good too! I want to try the other versions they offer, while I was there I saw a tuna mayo and vegan option as well. The Japchae was the dish I was looking most forward to trying. It's one of my favorite Korean dishes and I could eat just this as a meal and be so happy. The version I bought had beef bulgogi and I really enjoyed it. The Shrimp and Pork Spring rolls came in a container with two pieces along with peanut sauce. These were also really tasty and I enjoyed their peanut sauce a lot. Each of the items I bought were $7, which I think is pretty affordable. After tax and tip it came to $27.41 and easily could feed two. I'll definitely be back very soon. read more

I've been wanting to try this spot for awhile and finally did lunch to go and it did not disappoint. The spot is really small so didn't bother with trying to eat there. They offer a mix of ready to go and made to order dishes. I did a bento box and it was a ton of food. My family and I visited Southside Super recently and were amazed at the various options for kimbap: - Tuna Kimbap - Vegan Kimbap - Bulgolgi Kimbap - Spam Kimbap We were able to grab two vegan kimbaps for my husband, a tuna kimbap for myself and two spam kimbap for my kids. They also had an array of takeway bento boxes, spring rolls, japchae and more! They were all freshly made and ready for enjoyment. I was a little envious of those who were seated in the restaurant enjoying their ramen and other yummy dishes. We unfortunately did not have time to eat there and had to grab our food and go. This place is a gem. Tucked in a quiet neighborhood within downtown! Our favorite menu items are pho ga (chicken pho) and tuna/mayo gimbap. Whether you are wanting to dine in or get it to go, you can't go wrong. Service is always friendly and pretty quick even though the food is cooked fresh. The other day I had pho ga to go. Since I was on my way to SMF airport and dislike airport food, I called to order two kimbaps to eat on the plane. Southside Super is an Asian Diner & Deli, located in Downtown serving both Vietnamese & Korean dishes to dine in and to-go. The diner is tiny with few small tables and diner style counter/stool. It was almost full when I got there at around noon time. The fried tofu kimbap was flavorful and generous portion for $7. It's interesting they put perilla or shiso (not sure which one) in the kimbap. I'm used to tasting the spinach usually, which has a small amount. Overall, I like it and truly a perfect meal for the plane or on the go! I also got the bulgogi kimbap but gave it to my son who drove me to the airport. I'll update once I get his feedback. Decided to drive to this place for lunch from the office. It was very packed inside. I didn't bother trying to order off their menu so I opted to grab a bulgogi kimbap and took it back to the office. The kimbap had a pretty good balanced flavor. I would need to come much earlier if I want to dine in. I used to come by here quite a bit to grab a kimbab, I usually get the vegetarian or bulgolgi one. Its a great on the go meal, I've always thought kimbab would be great to take on the plane or on a hike. I do wish though that it had a little more of the sesame oil flavor, I always feel like thats a little missing. I've also tried to commoners rice, which i thought was ok, it tasted like something I would eat at someone's home. I also had the meat ball which the bread, this was pretty good. I enjoyed the meatball, the bread which tasted like the garlic ones from duc huong, but tasted a little stale like it was maybe a day or two old, which disappointed. My husband and I stopped by on a weekend morning to grab some food from the ready-made / grab-and-go section of Southside Super. I had had Southside bookmarked forever since they first opened and I was so excited to try it out. There's a small parking lot which is super convenient for its location downtown, along with additional street parking if needed. The location itself is super cozy with limited seating (counter and a couple of small tables) and the pre-made section towards the back left. We were welcomed when we walked in and made a beeline for the grab-and-go, but I was soo tempted to order other food too since it smelled so good. I decided to come back next time for an in-restaurant experience, and we got the spam kimbap, beef bulgogi japchae, and egg salad sandwich to try. I couldn't wait to get home, so I opened everything in the car. The spam kimbap was yummy and filling and such a great deal for a portable and tasty meal. The bulgogi japchae wasn't my favorite and I won't be ordering that again; the meat was on the saltier side and the noodles just tasted like soy sauce. My absolute favorite item was the egg salad sandwich. Something about the simplicity of the sandwich and the extra crunch of the fried onion pieces and umami of the seasoning really hit the spot. This was a perfect place to pick up already prepared kimbap, bento boxes & cabbage shrimp salads. The kimbap we picked up was the bulgogi, fried tofu & spam. Omgosh these kimbap were the best we have ever had. This small business that just opened up back in May 2023 used to be June's cafe. It's a perfect fit with a small private parking lot although we did park on the street nearby. The place didn't change much from the original cafe yet the food is geared to be Korean which is a nice variety since OsakaYa is within walking distance. We love Korean food despite not being Korean. Lonnie was the perfect positive energetic gal to help me out. She quickly rang up our items to go. We weren't that hangry to order food to eat in house but that was a great opportunity to do so right then & there! Just bc they just opened & no other customers were in the restaurant. They currently are closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays but even though they are only opened 9-2 PM I hope this business does well & stays open. Bc this kimbap was way better than what you purchase at KP supermarket in Rancho Cordova! The reason was bc they tasted like Mom's home cooking! We enjoyed the fresh crunchy cucumbers in them! My wife liked the cabbage shrimp salad & spicy chicken bento. The spicy chicken surprisingly had tteokbokki (rice cake) in it. It wasn't too spicy only just a smidge. Walking in, it's a very intimate setting as there is a very small aisle to walk down and a bar where you can chat with the cook as you eat. If you sit down at the bar or table, they'll make your food once you order. Towards the back, there is an area for you to do a grab and go if you're stopping by to grab lunch. One of the workers came by and noticed me bring a little lost and helped me understand how things work if I was just doing a grab and go. For this visit, I grabbed a spam kimbap and some beef japchae. They also had vegan options of them and a bunch of other options, but the kimbap and japchae were what I was craving Kimbap - so many flavors. I had sour, sweet, umami, and so much more every time I ate a piece. Despite being made early on, it wasn't soggy and still was very good Japchae - opening up, you get an immediate strong smell of soy sauce. Southside Super has been in my bookmarks for a while now and I finally was able to stop by on a Saturday afternoon. It's located less than two blocks away from Southside Park and has a decent sized parking lot next to the building. There was also plenty of free street parking when I was there. Inside, the space is small and cozy with a small countertop and stools along with a few tables. There is a little hot and cold deli case in the back. That's also where the cash register is located. I grabbed the last kimbap (vegan, with pickled radish, carrots, cucumber chive, burdock, and tofu) and one of the packed commoner's rice plates (carmelized pork and quail eggs over rice) which came with some pickled daikon and carrots on the side. The kimbap was my favorite. So filling and flavorful, I didn't even miss having meat. And only 7 bucks! The commoner's rice was just ok for me. It was good but I like more sauce with my carmelized pork, and I also prefer a thicker, fattier cut of pork belly. I would come back to try other kimbap rolls and menu items. read more

Southside super is a hole in the wall Vietnamese/Korean sit down restaurant, and it's unique in its concept of both quick grabs at the cold and hot deli area with made-to-order dishes as well. There is limited seating but surprisingly they did pretty well with the narrow space they had, and there were a decent amount of people seated. After seeing photos on Yelp, I really wanted to try the beef bulgogi kimbap and spicy pork box. However, I guess you have to arrive early because when I got there around 10:30am, they were already out of their vegetarian dosirak which was the closest menu item to the box, and there were only spam/fried tofu/tuna Mayo kimbap left. The other items available when I arrived were the Vietnamese pork belly commoner's rice, vegetarian spring rolls, and spicy chicken with corn cheese rice dish. I liked that they were constantly making fresh items and restocking, but I did wish there were more options. They also have made-to-order dishes, including the bun rieu, but I didn't try those this visit. The prices were fairly reasonable (Kim bap was $7, pork belly rice dish $11), and tax is already included. Overall it felt like I was eating a home cooked meal, which was nice. We were downtown for an appointment during the middle of a workday so we decided to stop by since their hours are very limited. It's a tiny little spot, looks like a cute retro diner. Not good for big groups, but a good place to get a quick lunch by yourself or one other person, or just to get takeout like we did. They have some items ready to go along the side wall, or you can dine-in and try their made to order dishes. The 4 stars is mainly for the fried tofu kimbap and the customer service. Otherwise would lean more towards 3 stars. Someone greeted us upon entering and she explained how their menu worked which was nice! We decided on the commoners rice plate in the warm food heater and beef and fried tofu kimbap. The kimbap was fairly priced since it was a generous size, but the flavor was not all there. Beef is usually our go-to but the one here was a bit lacking in flavor. The perilla leaf was overpowering and it just didn't have that familiar kimbap flavor, I think because it didn't have sesame oil. However the fried tofu one was our favorite, since it had that sweetness from the tofu skin and less of the perilla. The rice plate was okay, I liked the meat but there just wasn't a lot of it. Immediately when you open it, there's way more rice than meat and quail eggs. I did like the pickled veggies that came on the side though, which even tasted good with the kimbap. But overall I'd skip the rice plate since it was not enough for $11. Overall mixed experience. Not sure I'll be back, unless they change their hours or they have some kind of seasonal item that I'm interested in. read more

I really like this spot! Really convenient grab and go style, but with also some good sit down stuff. The ambiance is minimalistic, but cute. My hubs got special bun rieu. He said it reminded him of Vietnam! I was definitely a fan. I grabbed a Spam kim bap as like a starter... I love Spam. The Vietnamese style meatball sando was delish.
