I was in town for a conference staying at Hyatt. I needed a one step color and because I had time I decided to go there. Normally a frightening experience to get your hair colored by a new person/place but the timing was perfect. I met my hairstylist. She was lovely! Matched my color, talked with me and everyone around was friendly. I heard the manicurist had a cancellation so I took the opening. So I received a coloring, blowout and manicure. With such pampering I looked into getting a facial. However " the best aesthetician and masseuse" were completely booked. I was leaving the next day. If only I had planned better. Carlos gives the best shoe shine service in the chicago area. He works outside the spa! I really recommend it to anyone that needs their shoes cleaned and shined. Found this salon on Yelp with good reviews and close to my hotel so I booked a pedicure and was pleasantly surprised. This is an old school barber & salon with many memories inside those walls. Several of them have worked there for 35 years! I had Maria and she was precious and my feet have never felt better! Wanted to pamper myself a bit after a long week so we came into the city. This place is close to our hotel and had an opening to fit me in for a mani. I'm not a mani gal since I always find that little paint work mistakes which aggravates my OCD tendency. Not to mention I wash my hands so often at work that I haven't found the polish staying on more than a few days. Anyhow Maria was my nails champion today and she treated my nails like a goddess. I went for a "no chip gels" (dk what that means really) and boy she really paid a lot of attention to make sure the edges are rounded out and filled in. Kudos for not hurting or cutting my cuticles too much like any other places. Maria was also a masterful conversationist who makes a client feel like they know each other for years. Final work is probably by far the more superior than any other manis (little experiences I've encountered) with very little paint overhang. She promised me that her work will not chip for weeks so I'm going to see if it's indeed true. Also this place is just so, so lovely with t Staff treating everyone like their family. The old man in the glasses was trying really hard to help me get a blowout I wanted with many stylists even though they were fully booked, even offer that I use his station to do it myself. Saw the stellar reviews for Spa di la Fronza and decided to take my beat-up feet for a pedicure. Struggled a little finding the spa but finally got there. It's a piece of living history - Old Blue Eyes playing, books on the Rat Pack and Sophia Loren on the coffee table. It feels like an old-style barbershop with a friendly gentlemanly Italian barber and all. My pedicurist, Maria, took me back to a room with several chairs and proceeded to scrub, buff, and exfoliate my feet until they practically shone. I stopped by while staying at the Hyatt to get a manicure. Maria took me right back. She was great! She was extremely detailed with my "no chip" manicure and when she found out I wanted a massage, recommended that I also stop by after my massage the following day for a second top coat to assure my manicure would last. When I stopped in the next day (early I might add as I mixed up the time), she took me right back and when she heard I was walking into the city afterwards, offered me her scarf and gloves if I didn't have any - WHAT SERVICE!!! My massage with Lana was equally amazing, she knew exactly what I needed being a weary traveler, conference attendee! I have been coming here for about five years. I see two ladies, Azam who threads and tints my eyebrows and Maria for pedicures. Both of them are sweethearts and excellent at what they do. Even though I've moved in the last year, I come back to see both of them for brows and nails. One thing to know though: this is not a spa for people who want everything to be cutting edge and modern- you won't find nail dryers and reclining massage chairs for the pedicures. The salon is perfectly clean and tidy, but it's a little old-fashioned. This doesn't bother me one bit- everyone is very warm and friendly and the prices fair and on-par with the competition for well-done nails and brows. In the last 5 years I have gone to more upscale salons when I was traveling and needed a pedicure and while those places had fancier equipment, the pedicures did not last nearly as long as Maria's. She's a gem and so flexible about accommodating me in her busy schedule. I'll never go anywhere else. Please give it a try! read more

Received an amazing mani and pedi by Maria-probably best I've ever had. Clean and very detailed work. This salon is very charming and carries that vintage European charm. The people there are very warm, inviting, chatty, and they seem like a big family. Maria said she worked there for 30 years, and as we were chatting I found out that most of their clients have been going there for years and even decades! I'm bringing my grandma and mother in law and mother in next time-I love the way they treat the older generation-they just really get them and love them and give them the best quality service. This review is for eyebrow waxing/shaping by Azam. I formerly was going to Nordstrom's Anastasia eyebrow counter and spending $35 a pop (YIKES!). But I had enough of their high prices and inability to stay on schedule, so set out to find another good option. I saw a lot of reviews mentioning how great she was, however some were dating all the way back to '09. I thought, "She can't possibly still work here." Well, she does. And yes, Azam is amazing. Don't let the looks of this salon scare you away (you'll know what I mean when you arrive). Because at $12 all-in, I was done with my brows in under 5 minutes. So, the five stars all go to Azam, who is an amazing eyebrow threader. While 12 dollars is somewhat pricier than the 5 dollar threads I used to get done in Queens, NYC, it is worth every penny. She does a thorough job, making sure to trim and shape. I also enjoyed the privacy of being taken into a separate room from the rest of the salon, and the calming music she had on. My skin usually turns red for a half hour or so after being threaded, and she even gave me make up to cover the redness, so I wouldn't have to worry about my face while taking public transport home. She does the full service, to just face, and all for reasonable prices. She also does facials and eyebrow and eyelash tinting. The second best part of this visit was the walk along the river to get to the place from the red line. What a beautiful part of Chicago that I hadn't explore on a sunny day before! I've only had three full-body massages in my life and two of them were from this place on consecutive days. The other was from a really hot, Lithuanian guy in a very shady massage parlor in Eastern Europe that my friend convinced me to go to. Quite honestly, it left me feeling a bit violated. Not in a good way. My Foreign Affairs Club came down to Chicago on the weekend of my Birthday for a Model UN conference and we were pretty much confined to two hotels the entire time. We had to walk back and forth and then sit for hours in uncomfortable chairs. Needless to say, our bodies were sore, especially in the lower back, shoulders and feet. I made the call and Lily, the masseuse, picked up the phone and we scheduled a 30 minute appointment that very day. The spa is basically in the basement of the Hyatt. The manager greeted me at the door and Lily escorted me to the back room where I got undressed and under the warm sheets. She came back and talked with me briefly about what was bothering me and what she planned to do to help alleviate some of the tension. I found out that Lily is from former Yugoslavia. It was so nice to meet a person from the area, since it's interested me for the past six years. The rest of the time we spoke to each other in SerboCroatian and were able to talk about a lot of things we love about the culture. I'm still learning the language, so I learned a lot of useful massage phrases. One massage was not enough. It was an amazing massage, but I was still feeling tense and scheduled another, longer session for the next day. That one lasted 60 minutes and she used hot stones to knead my aching muscles. "Spavaces kao beba," (You'll sleep like a baby) she said and she wasn't lying! That was the best sleep of my life. While I was there I was able to meet another staff member, who I believe is a mani/pedicurist and also from the same region. Everyone is wonderful. The place has a true European feel to it. I didn't think that prices were much different from any other salon where full-services are offered. It is a clean, calm atmosphere with a very professional and kind staff. When I move here I plan to come as often as my wallet will allow. read more

I only get my shoes shined here - Carlos is 5 Stars, hands down. But the rest of the place has a really weird vibe to it. They must have spent a lot of money on the woodworking alone but in an odd way. It looks like a Catholic church with the pointed archways and confessional stylework stations. Then there is this weird Guido spin to it with cheap pictures of celebrities from the 1960's and the owner. For this reason it may be worth a visit. Judging by the other reviews, they seem to do a good job. So, go and be entertained in a surreal kind of way. read more

Just received my second massage from Lana and it was just as amazing as the first. As a massage practitioner myself, I'll admit that I'm pretty finicky. Lana knew exactly what to do. Her hands, head, and heart clearly direct her to the areas and tension that need particular focus. NENA IS AMAZING! I have been going to Nena for facials at Spa di La Fronza for past 2 years and she is by far the BEST aesthetician Ive ever been too. Nena has years of experience and a wealth of knowledge. She knows exactly what your skin needs so that it will look flawless. Nena takes her time and is very thorough...She literally extracts every nook, cranny, bump on my face so that I look like I have flawless skin. I had these tiny bumps on my face, milia for years and went to lot of dermatologists and aestheticians trying to get rid of them with no success, but afer seeing Nena they are all gone! she is better at taking care of my skin than my own dermatologist! I made an appointment, they conveniently scheduled me in, which was great!!! Upon arriving, Carmela my stylists greets me with warmth and smiles! She asked me about my hair (fine frizzy curls), and from there a wash and blow out! She does her blow out different than what I am used to but I was so happy with the end result!!! It was va-va-voooom, had perfect big waves, she did spray a little hair spray and some shine spray! LOVE IT! I gave her a hug, because I was so pleased with it! Went and saw Azam for the first time because my usual person was out of town. Let me just say WOW!! She was so fast in no time she was done with my underarms and gave me a Brazilian bikini! She is so sweet! I will definitely recommend Azam to friends who live in the city and cant make it to Lincoln Park! Beware...if this is your first time to the Salon get there just a little early because its kinda of confusing. Pros: Location(Loop-Hyatt Regency) Price: Really good for downtown! Staff: You are greeted upon entry Materials: Uses a wax roll on...which i had never seen before. The wax comes out warm on your skin and then she uses the strips to remove hair. I actually like this because 1) prevents double dipping as Azam said and 2) I usually get part of my stomach waxed so the roll on leaves a much straighter line. Cons: I dont think i have any... I would highly recommend Azam! I might even look into getting a nice manicure as well. read more

This review is really for Nena. Nena has been my aesthetician for well over a decade and she is by far, hands down, the best in Chicago. I don't trust anyone else to go near my eyebrows...I learned that lesson REAL quick when I was away at undergrad. And her facials are magic. I know she has clients travel from all over the country to see her for their skincare needs. She carries very specialized brands of skin care products, while expensive (but then again, what good skincare products aren't?) are worth the dinero. I had some serious blotchy skin on my face from sun exposure and just the city elements, and the products she recommended really evened everything out. I can't live without the moisturizer she has! If you need magic done on your face, I'd recommend making a special trip to the Hyatt to see Nena! read more

I would definitely get another facial from Azam! I was in town for a conference and I had a few hours on my own, made the appt. on a whim and they got me in right away (albeit with a lot of shouting across the salon between the man who answered the phone and the person who ended up being the esthetician, Azam.) It felt a bit rushed, but I think that is because she was efficient. She made my skin feel great! I docked one star for the ambiance. The salon didn't really feel clean - cobwebs and burnt out bulbs and dated track-lighting with mismatched bulbs, It was cramped and the decor was so over-the-top 80's Italian decor as to be campy - Sponge painting everywhere. It was the Italian version of a TGIFridays, but I'm not quite sure that was what they were going for. Also it seems really out of place with the Hyatt experience. Again I would definitely recommend the service, but if you are looking for an indulgent spa vibe - you'll need to go somewhere else. read more

I am quite picky about the way my eyebrows look. I've visited countless threading salons both in the suburbs and the city only to leave disappointed and forced to re-grow my eyebrows. My friend and I commute from the suburbs to the Loop for work, and there isn't much time to travel long distances for eyebrow threading. Needless to say, we were delighted when we read all of the positive reviews of Azam here on Yelp and decided to schedule appointments with her. All in all, we are thrilled with the atmosphere of her work space, the quality of her services, and of course, the results. Azam's work space is tucked away in a room that's separate from the rest of the salon. This isn't one of those areas where you sit helplessly in one of a dozen chairs as a half-focused eyebrow technician hacks away at your eyebrows while she chats with other technicians/watches TV. In Azam's room, you lie on a massage table as she focuses on one thing only: sculpting your eyebrows. What I appreciated most was that Azam actually listened to what I asked her to do. I have been growing out the ends of my eyebrows for months, only to have them threaded off without my permission at other salons. Not only did Azam avoid this area, but she gave me a beautiful shape and didn't limit herself to threading while doing so; she brushed, trimmed, and plucked when necessary, which surprisingly doesn't happen at all threading salons. Although the process only took a few minutes to complete, I didn't feel rushed at all. My friend's experience was just as good, if not better (and she's even pickier than I am!). Spa Di La Fronza Salon is a wonderful gem, somewhat hidden as it is located just below the Hyatt Hotel on Wacker/Michigan. This review is especially for my go-to esthetician, Nena. I was recommended to Nena by a friend and colleague who has been going to Nena for years and always has a glowing complexion, which has not changed as she's getting a bit older. I have now been seeing Nena monthly, for nearly two years, and I can't imagine going anywhere else. My skin has improved greatly to be smooth, clear with even glowy tones (despite my love of the sun), and youthful. Nena also keeps my eyebrows looking beautiful, and I would not trust anyone else to take of them! Lastly, the products Nena has introduced me to are high quality and absolutely equate to results. I now receive regular compliments on my skin and would highly recommend Nena to anyone looking to take care of their skin.
