I've been coming to Kim's for years. I mainly come for waxing services, but have gotten manis, pedis, and even haircuts. The ladies here are lovely. They always remember my name, even though I only come once a month. Kim is fantastic at waxing. I trust her to do a great job every time and she's never disappointed me. She has great attention to detail and isn't satisfied herself unless the job is well done. It's also a family affair: both Kim's son and daughter work there and they are awesome as well. Walked in for a manicure on a Sunday afternoon and was greeted by a friendly employee and scheduled right away. I only had to wait for a few minutes and the manicure was quick but done very well with attention to detail. I am giving 3 stars because I wanted to get a full gel set but this place only offers acrylic full sets. I was in desperate need of a mani/pedi as my baby shower is tomorrow (6/11) and it had been quite some time since I got both. Usually I would just do it myself but it's a little hard to do my toes with a big ole eight month preggo belly! I came here based on a recommendation from a co-worker (Thank you, Sonya!) and I am so glad I took her suggestion! Making an appointment was a breeze! I actually made the appointment on Thursday afternoon for Friday morning, 10:00AM appointment - right when they open. Getting here was also a breeze! Helen did my shellac mani and Karen did my shellac pedi. They both were absolutely wonderful and I loved that they use plastic coverings in the pedi chairs! I also love that they asked me if I wanted another coat for both colors since the colors I picked were very light - mint for my toes and a nude for my nails. They were quick but paid attention to detail. There are no bubbles, missed spots, etc. I had a great experience and tipped well as I previously stated, these feet needed some love badly! Sarah has been doing my acrylic nails for years. I've always been happy with the work she does but during the pandemic Sarah's talent really shined. I decided to give this a place a try because of all the wonderful reviews. I give this place a 5 stars for customer service, 2 stars for their limited selection of colors and available designs, and 2 stars for workmanship and skills. The lady who helped me was super nice and friendly. Unlike most of the nail salons, even though they spoke Vietnamese, the ladies there kept their chatting and gossiping in Vietnamese to a minimum. I felt comfortable and did not feel like they were gossiping or complaining about me. I went to get Shellac manicure and had a design and color scheme in mind. I was quite surprised at the lack of colors they had. When I finally decided (begrudgingly) on the colors (coral with gold tips), I was told that they didn't have the gold color. The alternative didn't even come close, but I went with it. I asked about getting little charms and was told that the owner doesn't buy them, so they don't offer it. So then I asked about maybe getting a 3D bow using powder and was told no they don't do that, however, I could get a 3D flower. BUT, the lady who does that wasn't there today. The last 2 manicures I had lasted 3 weeks, and when I went in to get them removed (by other salons) it took at most 15 minutes to take off the polish. The other salons knew to file off the top coat and then soak my nails in acetone for 5 minutes. It took the lady 45 minutes to take my polish off today. Granted I had a charm on one finger, so I allotted extra time for that. Unfortunately, the other 9 fingers took just as long. This was the process: 1. Soak cotton in acetone, put onto fingers, wrap in foil. 2. When all 10 finger were done, she went to the first finger and proceeded to try to scrape the polish off. Of course nothing came off, so she just re-wrapped it and repeated with the other 9 fingers. 3. After 5 minutes, she tried once again to scrape. This time, she filed a little bit and then wrapped my fingers. 4. After another 5 minutes, she tried to scrape, this time was able to get some off. Back into the acetone soak. I go. 5. Another 5 minutes later she tried again, this time most of it came off, and she THEN files the rest off. Ummmm, I don't want my natural nails to be filed off! I looked at the clock and it took 45 minutes to just get my last polish off. I was a little disappointed because that was a lot of time wasted, not to mention all the time my fingers sat in acetone. Every manicure I have ever gotten included some cuticle softener cream which helps soften my cuticles so they can clean them up. The cutting tool is always filled with cuttings because I have overgrown cuticles and hang nail. She didn't do this and barely removed any of my hardened cuticles and hangnail (I am feeling them as I type). She was pretty meticulous putting my polish on, but now that I am looking at my nails closely, each nail has exposed cuticles already (she didn't paint all the way up), which mean in a few days, those edges are going to start snagging on things and eventually peel. The alternate gold color I had chosen didn't really show with 1 coat. She was going to stop at 1 coat and I had to ask her to do 2 coats. She said they don't normally do it, but she'll do it for me. I noticed that she didn't let it cure between the 2 coats but didn't say anything since I figured she knew what she was doing. You can totally tell that there were 2 separate coats on my finer tips because they weren't done consistently. The second coat didn't make much of a difference so now I look like I have half-assed french tips. I decided to just go with it as I didn't have time to change it. My thought all afternoon after my appointment was: I'll bet this isn't going to last half as long as the other manicures I've gotten. I am sitting here now, looking at 2 nails that have already chipped at the tip. Needless to say, I won't be going back. Considering how long she took to work on my nails, I was pleasantly surprised that it only cost 35. She was really nice and you can tell the business is customer oriented. However, if I can spend the same amount of money elsewhere for colors/designs that I really want and is going to last 3 weeks (not less than 12 hours), I am going to go somewhere else. UPDATE: It's now been almost 24 hours. One of my nails is now broken. I didn't do anything other than scratch my arm for a second and the next thing I know, the nail broke. I am kind of speechless. read more

I don't generally leave reviews but I just left Spa Elysee and have to express my disappointment in my experience today. I am 38 weeks pregnant and was really looking forward to treating myself to a pedicure and foot rub so I decided to try this place out, made an appointment for 11am. I showed up at 10:45 and was told I was too early and my technician wouldn't be there until my 11am appt time, fair enough. I selected my color then at 11 they told me she was running late and had me start to soak my feet. Well she doesn't show up until 11:25 and gets started on my feet shortly thereafter. She asks if I'd like an extra 10 minute massage for $10 which I agree to (again 38 weeks pregnant dying for a foot rub). Whole pedicure is done at 11:55, 30 minutes with an extra 10 add on treatment doesn't seem right to me. Then they left me sitting there drying for 20 minutes before I had to tell someone I had to go as my parking meter would be up. I'm disappointed in my experience that I was so looking forward to and do not recommend this place. read more

Today while I was waiting for my appointment I overheard Kim (who I believe owns the place) call a young woman "SOUTH CITY SCUM" now I don't know who this woman thinks she is but that is in no way to talk to a person let alone a customer. The girl asked Kim to fix 1 nail and Kim was beyond RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. As a customer who goes there only for connivence not for performance I will NEVER go back there again and I told all of my friends that go there as well. How dare she call a CUSTOMER south city sum?? I have lived in Burlingame and South City which are both beautiful places. Living in one or the other doesn't make someone better. This woman is notorious for turning down customers because of the way they are dressed. Kim you have just lost a very big group of Burlingame customers for this!! This is a review for WAXING with KIM: Well. What can I say. I am a waxing virgin no more. Let me just mention that I was slightly uneasy. Ok, I was terrified. I had been shaving most of my life and I always get razor burn, so I have pretty sensitive skin. I also tried depliating (as in ripping out a few hairs at a time with an electric machine), which I think is underrated as a form of medieval torture. Kim, the owner of the spa, made me feel completely at ease immediately. I dont know how (it could have been magic), but I was chatting away with her as if we were old friends. Then the highlight: The lower leg waxing was absolutely bearable (and I m a bit of a baby). I could almost say it was a non-event (and I was feeling soooo brave). I was so impressed with how fast, painless and awesome it was that I asked kim to do my underarms as well. Now, my underarms have always been the most painful place when I depilated (and I even tried the bikini zone, mad I know, but what is a girl with hair in inconvenient places gonna do?). I could not lower my arms after depilating for about 25 minutes and the pain was really intense. Now my experience with Kim: Super fast, 2 goes under each arm, hair gone, pain totally bearable, arms could be lowered straight away. Awesome! I am going back for a bikini wax tomorrow, it was so great. I had my wax two hours ago and my legs look great with all redness almost completely gone. Wow, if I had known it s this easy, I would have braved it years ago. Thanks yelpers for a great tip. KIM is the best. Just be aware, that Kim is only working on thursdays, fridays and saturdays, so make an appointment. Oh and the prices for waxing are super affordable. $25 for lower leg and $15 for underarm. In and out in about 15 min. PS: I just rechecked my calendar and I actually had an appointment for yesterday rather than today! Dope! Amazing is however that noone actually mentioned my faux pas and I was received in a friendly way, even though I accidentally showed up 24 hours late :-) Thats customer service. read more

The customer was visibly so upset and shaken up and one of the employees offered to fix her nails for free. I came to this salon after finding a deal on lifebooker. I had a brazilian wax and a shellac manicure. I would rate my wax high (4 stars) but the manicure (1-2 stars). When I walked in for my appointment there was a women giving a pedicure and asked what I was there for. I told her I had a 4pm appointment and gave her my name but she made me announce what procedures I was having done in front of the whole salon. To be discreet I responded a wax and a shellac manicure and she ask me what type of wax, so in front of the whole salon I had to say Brazilian. I was embarrassed, but was quickly swept upstairs to be waxed. Kim, did an excellent job waxing- and it was one of the quickest, least painful waxes I've ever had. Only thing that was a bit strange was that she didn't leave the room when she asked me to undress but I guess it isn't the time to be modest. Afterwards I went back downstairs to have the shellac manicure. Kim told me that one of the technicians had called out sick that day so they were short staffed and she got my some tea and some magazines while I waited for the technician to finish with another customer. I waited for close to 15 or 20 minutes but I really didn't mind as I understand there are often variables that the staff can't control. The woman who ended up doing my manicure was very nice but she was not very skilled. I have gotten shellac manicures for years and this was the worse I've ever received. The end result was streaky (I chose a matte pink color and the color was blotchy and uneven). While I was there I noticed a sign in the window that said they did eyebrow threading as well. As a devoted fan of threading I decided to give them a try! The same technician who did my nails threaded my eyebrows and it was the most painful threading experience I have ever had. She was very clumsy and unskilled- it's hard to describe but those of you who have had experience with threading now how the movements should be quick and inflict minimal pain. The threading I received felt slow- it felt as if she was ripping each hair out individually while grabbing chunks of skin between the threads as well. It was so uncomfortable I almost made her stop! I wish I had because after she was done she had completely distorted the shape of my eyebrows and removed almost a quarter off the end of my left eyebrow! She also kept telling me in the middle of the procedure that the eyebrows were going to cost $25 and my lip $15 as if to confirm that price with me. It thought me that seemed incredibly expensive but I figured it was a communication error (she didn't speak English well). When I went to check out Kim's son (who was very professional and helpful- refilling my tea etc) seemed to have a bit disagreement with my technician over the price of the threading. He then told me that they were discounting that procedure as well as the manicure and wax as I had booked it all through LIfebooker. Overall I believe the price was around $75 for all 3 services which I felt was very very reasonable!!! I suppose I just had a bad experience with this particular technician. I will absolutely go back to Kim for another Brazilian wax but I think that will be all I go for. read more

I came here for the first time on Mother's Day. My sister and I brought my mom for her first mani / pedi experience. For the most part, it was ok. The salon is a nice, open space and clean. The ladies who did our nails were really sweet. The problem was that they rushed us through. I even had to ask to sit for a second with the air dryer so I could let my nails dry, as they had me leave the chair to make room for their next appointment. All the while one customer was there getting her pedicure before we arrived and just starting her manicure as we were leaving. They should have had more nail technicians working on such a busy Sunday. The quality of my mani / pedi is ok. I can see the two different coat lines on some nails. My sister, however, had half her nail chipped the next day and one of her fingers ended up infected, probably from when they were rushing the cuticle area. My mom was happy with the experience, but I think that had more to do with the three of us being together. For the amount we paid, I would expect better quality. read more

I got a shellac french manicure here a couple days ago -- normally I don't review a place till I've gone a few times but it had a couple of goods and bads that I thought warranted a review. After reading many, many reviews, Kim's turned up as a worthy yet affordable alternative to my old usual place that's gone to the dumps and a couple of places in the city. I called the day before and they accommodated my time of choice no problem. When I showed up, parking wasn't an issue as there's tons of meters on Broadway but it could be a bit of a hassle when it gets busy. I was warmly greeted by a young gentleman (owner's son) and sat down right away. Alas, no time to choose a magazine. Oh well, no big. I also walked in with my own drink so I wasn't offered one but the ladies who walked in later on were offered ginger tea. Always a nice touch. I couldn't commit to any color for 2+ weeks of shellac so I went with a french. The lady started working without much conversation and kind of haphazardly on one hand then the other. She did a very diligent job on the basics that even embarrassed me a bit on the disturbing state of my nails. A number of women walked in after me and were greeted by the entire salon on a first name basis. It seemed like "the" neighborhood spot. Sounded like the owner's daughter was also working in-house. Anyways, after about 35 minutes, I walked out with a decent french shellac. Reason for the 3 stars? The white tips are too thick on some fingers, there are bubbles on a few of them, and, even after I pointed it out, there are still rough edges left over that I've already had to file down. We'll see how long these will last. Although, something tells me, if I noticed this while she was doing it and not as I was getting in my car, she'd end up fixing it. Verdict? Not enough to keep me away. I'll be back but maybe I'll try someone else. read more

My first impression was it didn't even look like your typical nail salon. I've only gotten my nails done but I can't come back for a facial... I went to Kim for a Brazilian and an eye lash tint. This was the second time I had a Brazilian and the first time was HORRIBLE. Kim was great. The wax was super fast and she made it as painless as possible. Afterwards she was super attentive and used some things to less my redness and ingrown hairs. The eye lash tint was awesome. I have it done before and my eyes always stung horribly. My eye's didn't sting at all with Kim. Kim was super sweet and down to earth, and I really liked her. I stayed for a pedicure as well. Jessica did my toes and she did a really good job. She was very attentive and the polish was done very nicely. I really liked this shop and I will be back for sure! I was on antibiotics for my skin for 2 years and after trusting Kim tossed them out, followed her advise and my skin has never been better in my life. I had gotten my nails done out of town two days prior to walking in just seconds ago & I work on the computer but I already had bad service for the set I have so I walked out after paying. Anyways, all I wanted was to get them cut shorter & was willing to pay just to fix it, even if cost me a full set price. There are TWO ladies sitting there at the manicure tables and because I didn't want a full service or maybe the way I dress? (I'd just gotten off work only a block away I might add) they quickly said we're booked you have to go somewhere else".. Seriously!? Hate to pull this card, but you would think that judging a book by its cover was out of style this day in age. After moving into the area, my husband gave me a gift card to come and get my nails done at Kim's. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. Granted I paint my own nails weekly, I still expect a nail salon to do better than myself. I mean, everything was clean and the ladies were nice. But my toe nails were cut too short, so it was sensitive and hurt a little when I walked for two days. And the paint job was eh. So even if I wanted to go to a salon again to just get pampered, Kim's probably wouldn't be my first choice. read more

I've been getting waxing from Kim since 2013, and she is such a fantastic waxing pro! I've gotten waxing from many others (at least 20 different people) in SF, and none of them were as good as Kim. Those of you who know how waxing can be brutal, you won't have that experience with Kim. She doesn't revisit the same area over and over again so the pain level is pretty low and she finishes the waxing super fast! If anyone wants to find a waxing pro in the Bay Area, Kim is the one. It was very easy to make an appointment for waxing, which is great. However, I would not recommend this place to anyone for waxing anything except maybe your brows. I did read a few positive reviews about their waxing on Yelp before coming, so perhaps I just had the wrong person doing the waxing? The woman helping me was very friendly and sweet, but unfortunately the waxing was pretty painful and not thorough, and for the price you pay, I would suggest you spend your money elsewhere. It's easy to call for same day appointments, especially weekend mornings, and be seen immediately or Kim will tell a good time. I came here for the first time for a pedicure last week. I was really looking forward to it after a stressful couple of months and was a little disappointed with the results. My pedicure started out nicely with a great massage, but once the salon became busy it felt rushed. I am able to see the nail polish lines created by the first and second coat of polish, and developed two blisters caused by too much buffing. The staff was friendly. Later that day I noticed that the paint on my thumb bubbled and some of the very tips of my nails were missing paint. About a week later my nail chipped! uh hello. it's shellac it shouldn't.
