Visited Spa O for the first time last week, since my long standing nail salon permanently closed after COVID took a toll on her business. This is the first nail spa I've visited in the South Loop. I Pros: $35 mani/pedi Mon-Wed, great price! Lots of nail color selection, all OPI and Essie polish! Lots of chairs, no wait, and I was a walk-in on a Wednesday evening, 6pm without an appointment. Cons: The service felt very hurried, similar to what others have commented. I could understand if there was a line of clients waiting but on this particular day, there wasn't anyone waiting so I didn't understand the rush. My mani/pedi was done in 40 minutes. The pedicure chair I sat in had a semi-working massage feature, some functions worked while others didn't, and it didn't immediately start. To put it plainly, the place needs a thorough cleaning, and supply replacement especially during the current health crisis we're in. None of the pedicure chairs looked clean, they are beige, definitely show wear, and lots of dark streaks throughout. The seats by the drying lamps were dingy. The hand towel my technician used had a visible hole in it. In any nail salon there will be dust from filing nails throughout the day, but I saw dust accumulating on decoration pieces that could only appear over a span of time. read more

Walked in for a no-chip pedicure. Was told to come back at 11:45 so I waited and came back. Once in the chair, the tech took 30+ minutes taking the polish off my toes and didn't do shit else to my feet. I soaked in the water for about 5 minutes and she drained the tub and was about to jump right into polishing. I asked for her to actually exfoliate my heels and the bottoms of my feet and I was told that was $10 extra. I said ok. She then repeated my request to the receptionist who then said they didn't have time for a what they call a 'callus treatment' because "another customer was coming in". So I just paid $35 to get my polish taken off. Needless to say I will be disputing the charge with Chase once it posts to my account. If they didn't want to take me they should've said that in the beginning and I never would've wasted my time. It's out of my way but I will stick with going to the Gold Coast to get my nails done where they actually know how to do them. read more

I got a dip manicure here and it looked fine but literally only lasted 1 week and then they all just fell off. Horrible horrible horrible. Dip should last at least two weeks and I've never had dip literally just peel off like this. read more

I love manis & pedis and especially good ones (shoot, I'll even take a decent one if I'm in a hurry). Unfortunately, I didn't think think this place delivered. I had my little sister get her nails done for her bday, so I decided while I was waiting to get a version of a pedicure. Basically, buff the nails, massage the feet, but no need for polish or anything else. I mean, I couldn't have my little sister waiting for me. This was her day. 15 min later I was done with my part. $35 later for my experience, I felt cheated. Then there's the way they treated my little sis. Yes, she doesn't sit still very well and nail salons who advertise services for children should know this. Thus, she bumped her nails a few times, but the manicurist simply painted over the bumps instead of redoing it. This is definitely a small place and it tries to be classy but misses the spot. So... I'm pretty torn about the direction that I'm going with this review. But let me say from the beginning that the mani/pedi's at this place are top notch. The quality is wonderful, they don't rush things, and polish lasts a decent amount of time. Between Spa O and Nail City down the block, Spa O wins, hands down. This place might be small, but it's never been a problem for me to walk in and have something done. They also keep their computer updated with their clientele. I'm guessing, but can't be sure, that this is to keep track of what you've done and rewards frequent visitors. However, they have a big sign on the wall reminding clients that they want you to leave your tip in cash. Which... okaaaaay, I get it. I've spent my time in the service industry and I know it's a drag to have to claim your credit card tips. Which is, you know, the law. But sometimes I want a pedicure on a whim and only have a credit card. I shouldn't have to feel bad about that. My latest trip there (sans cash) ended with the very friendly, but not necessarily condescending, receptionist scolding me with, "Just try and remember for next time". But here's the thing, I probably won't. I'm just not the type of person that usually has cash on them. I know, shoot me. My concern about this is that they will make note in my account that I'm the asshole that doesn't bring cash and they short me on services or quality of such services because of it. Am I SURE that this will happen? No, it's just a hunch. Bottom line: I'll be back. And I actually will make an effort to have cash. But if I don't, and you give me 'tude again, I'll have to address it with someone. And I really, really don't want to have to go back to Nail City. The job well done deserves 4 stars, but the cost does not make me happy and I can't say the service is soooooo amazing that it's worth it at full price so it gets 3 stars. Pros: - Temka did a great job. My manicure surprisingly lasted for quite some time, as did my pedicure. - Close to the crib - $40 mani/pedi "special" M-W before 2pm. I somehow made it happen in January ;-) - They use your phone number to track their rewards program. You earn 10% for each dollar spent and once you spend $150, you would have racked up $15 that you can use towards services. For better or worse, since everything is so darn expensive it's pretty easy to spend $150 after a few visits. - Well, well, well... I just noticed on their website that they have official guarantees on service: "We guarantee 2 weeks for No-Chip, 1 week for weekly polish. We free to fix chipped nail within guaranteed period." Cons: - It's too darn expensive - $45 mani/pedi, $45 no-chip mani - Their promotions are not consistent. I came here the first time based on a Yelp 10% off check in promo for your first visit. When it was time to pay, they said that promotion was over and I couldn't use it. Sorry. Yeah, sorry for you guys. It's clearly on my phone, which you see, so yes, I can and will use it. They proceeded to show me their computer system that said the promo was over months prior. Again, not my fault. They need to update the promotion on Yelp. This was back in December and it's still listed as a Yelp check in offer today. So I would suggest that until they fix the listing don't back down from getting the discount. That's not our fault! FYI - Tips are cash only. They will literally swipe your card twice (for service, for tip) if you must use a CC tip. read more

I went to get a mani/pedi here this week. I did not have an appointment and walked in on a Monday evening after work. They were able to accommodate me easily as there was hardly any crowd. The place is very clean and quite spacious. The service is a little off putting. The receptionist hardly cracks a smile and when I told her I didn't have an appointment she gave me an evil eye, even if the place was practically empty. The technician who worked with me was very quiet and not talkative at all. She did not even ask me if I liked the mani/pedi after we were done. But she was efficient and good. I liked the manicure better than the pedicure she gave me. It is a bit pricier than regular so will not visit too often, but good to know that there is a good option close to where I live. Love being pampered here. I went here with super short nails three weeks before my wedding and said, "help!" and they fixed me up so my hands looked great on the big day. I'm not usually a pamper-myself person, but their no-chips did stand up to every-five-minute-hospital-hand-gel treatments for two weeks (no chip was their solution to allow my nails to grow out). $40 Mani/Pedis on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays before 2 pm- could it get better than that? They take down your name and phone number and every time you go there to use their services (nails and waxing) they keep track of it and you build up points to get money off. After $150 spent there, you can get a free manicure! They spend a lot of time massaging you feet, legs, hands, and arms. When you are sitting waiting for your nails to dry, the manicurist came over to give me a stellar back massage as well! Sap O has become my go-to nail spa now that I live in University Village/South Loop. I usually just come in for a no-chip mani but this past weekend I went in for a no-chip mani plus pedicure. I didn't have an appointment but I went pretty early in the morning on a Sunday when they opened (would def recommend making an appointment though as they do get pretty busy) They were very accommodating and had two technicians assisting me at the same time which was fine by me (idk other people might not be into that) it wasn't uncomfortable in the least bit and I'd rather everything get done efficiently rather than waiting around. While it is on the pricier side, I really think the service they provide is worth it. Not to mention how clean it is here. Many nail salons that I have visited you can tell that they use the same pumice scrubber on your feet (gross), but at Spa O they use new scrubbers and are very sanitary. Also they are very attentive unlike other places I've been where the technicians are distracted or are engaging in conversations with other co-workers. I come here to relax and not to have someone talking my ear off or someone else's for that matter. Ooh another plus is that they offer a great back massage and use a wonderful scrub during the pedicures. They are also great about helping you put your shoes/boots on during the winter so that your pedi doesn't get damaged. So if you're in the S loop/University village neighborhood I would definitely recommend getting your nails done here. They do accept credit card, but be sure to bring cash for tip. read more

Great place for Manicure! The place is very clean with the décor being a white/silver color palate. Very welcoming. It is small but otherwise very well organized. Called earlier to confirm if walk-ins were welcomed, was advised to make a reservation. They offered 3 time slots to choose from, went with the 6:30 slot. Was greeted by a polite gentleman offering me something to drink and to hang my coat. There was no language barrier. English was easily understood both by the receptionist and nail technician. Pricing is reasonable, $15 for manicure and $35 for pedicure. I received the manicure on Thursday and it has not chipped. They carry OPI and Essie nail polish. I've been to other salons in the area and found either that there is a large language barrier, price is extremely high or the place is not that welcoming (clean/overcrowded). Definitely will be making a 2nd visit for the pedicure! (Oh, street parking is hard to come by. But public transportation is definitely nearby. I had a great experience at Spa O! To be honest, I was a little hesitant given the amount of stars it had- which is why I'm taking the time to write a review which is something I NEVER do. I really loved the atmosphere here, it was peaceful- the employees weren't talking among each other, there was nice music, they do a great job cleaning up your feet, massaging them and all that jazz. Where I was really impressed was the mani's not only do they give a nice massage to your hands but also one to your back. Everything was very pleasant and a great experience. This is a very nice and clean place for customers to relax and get pampered, and the service is excellent, too! The receptionist was very welcoming. She immediately arranged our services as soon as my friend and I walked in. Our nail ladies were very professional. One of my pet peeves for nail salons is that they sometimes use cheap products on customers. Even though with the nail polish you can't see the damage, it always shows after you remove the coloring. But here at Spa O I don't have to worry about their products. Last time I was there, I recognized most of the products they used on me, and the standard mani-pedi included a vitamin E capsule. My nail lady cut it open and the oil inside flew right onto my hands, then she gave me a short hand massage. That felt really good! I wish she could keep massaging my arms and hands. The only reason why I didn't give it a five star is because of the noise. It's understandable that they're very popular and it's hard to keep the salon quiet with all the customers coming in and out. Also, they have a sign on the wall that customers should tip their nail ladies in cash. I don't usually carry a lot of cash on me, so every time I come here I have to make a trip to an ATM first. I absolutely cannot get enough of Spa O! I had my sister's bachelorette party here, on a Saturday afternoon, in the summer (read: primo time-o) and Spa O was so accomodating. Of course, the spa is BYOB which rather helps any and all experiences, but the service was great as was the selection of OPI and Essie colors. I also get regular manicures at Spa O from my girl, Chloe! I'm a bit nervous to put her name out to the Yelp world as I'm afraid her appt times will be snatched up--but really she's incredible and very nice, and her massages are like out-of-this-world amazing. Oh yeah, massages come with the manicures...cool, right? Lastly, Spa O checks you in electronically and tracks the dollars spent, so every $150 is a free manicure, which is nice. Feels good to get a little something back. I'd recommend Spa O to anyone in the South Loop, anyone looking for a nicer nail salon, or even those tourists who want a to explore Grant Park with a manicure from across the street. read more

I have been going to Spa O for well over a year now and I can honestly say that I only prefer this salon, even though there is another nail salon down the street from where I live. The receptionists have always been friendly and helpful and so has the rest of the staff. I always try and see Anya who is not only a sweetheart but does a tremendous job. I also enjoy that Spa O has a loyalty rewards program that they automatically apply to your visits if you're already signed up. (it's a free program). This place is incredibly clean, very feminine decor and has a great selection of colors, both O.P.I & Essie. They also have great deals during the beginning of the week before 2pm which is nice. I have never tried any of their other services other than mani/pedi's but will continue to go to this fantastic salon while I live in the South Loop! read more

I have a new favorite nail spot! My go to nail place was recently featured on Groupon and I could not get an appointment without booking a few days in advance. I was very happy to call Spa O, be warmly greeted on the phone and welcomed to the salon just an hour later. The salon is all white and has windows looking out onto South Michigan, offering a beautifully light-filled space. Huge pedicure chairs are ridiculously comfortable and all of the nail tools are hermetically sealed (this place is VERY clean!) In the time it took me to get a manicure/pedicure they played some cool vibes too - French cafe sort of music and some other interesting worldly tunes. I wasn't excited about what they were playing on either of their flat screen TVs (Golden Compass?) and the magazines seemed a little outdated, but overall it was a great experience. This was my first pedicure after running the NYC Marathon a few weeks ago and I must say my feet were amazingly smooth after my visit! 4 days later my manicure is still going strong too! read more

Pros-No wait time, huge selection of color including no-chip, very warm and inviting as far as the decor, and clean. Depending on what time you go, it can get crowded relatively quickly due to the limited space. Cons-little overpriced for services, very little space; I was with my boyfriend and both of us received a mani pedi and both taken at the same time which was good but the entire service lasted 35 minutes. There were no beverages (especially for it being downtown). My manicurist was very rough with my nails, I wasn't able to soak my feet for no time, the entire time I felt rushed and the job in my opinion was 1/2 done. oh, must I say that my manicurist nails was dirty as well. COMPLETE TURN OFF. I did not want her to touch my hands. I go for mani/pedi's very often and search around for deals and nice places to go. The absolute worst!! I booked a pedicure but received a foot wash instead (well at least that's what I looks like). This place is by far the worst place to get a pedicure if you're in the south loop. I don't know if my tech was new or if she was just rush, either way my pedicure looks horrible! What's worst is the fact that the manager personal looked at my feet, saw what a mess it was...and didn't fix the problem. She didn't even apologize. Amy was fantastic and did a great job on a regular mani/pedi. However when I went to pay, the manager/front desk told Me that I unknowingly chose a nail polish that cost $5 extra for my pedicure. There is a small label on the shelf back where you select the polish that I missed, so that's on me, but good service would mean it's pointed out, especially for a first time customer! Everyone was nice once they realized I was pissed, but they still charged me. Supposedly I can come back and get chips taken care of in the next two weeks, but nothing on my receipt shows I paid for the more expensive polish, so I doubt it. After reading some other reviews, advertised v. charged prices seems to be an ongoing issue, so I won't be back. There are too many competitors in the area I'd rather go to like OMG Spa. I have been going here for a couple of years for no chip manicures. The usual technician I used left that salon, so I tried another tech who did a terrible job. I immediately raised concerns and am now going back for the second time within three days to have chips fixed. Even though I have been a long time customer who has never raised a concern, they refuse to redo the polish other than the one nail (even though the polish is way too think and will peel off) and basically blew me off. There are so many salons in this area, it's not worth the hassle to go here. read more

After a week my no chip manicure was over. During that one week it was rather cute. My biggest issue are my messed up cuticles. popped in for a quick Mani/pedi for their $35 special- can't beat it! I was looking forward to treating myself and was excited to see they were sanitary. my service was subpar and the technician I had was pretty rude. My pedicure was half assed at best. cuticles were not removed, the entire nail wasn't polished. everything as sloppy. then we went to the manicure station and the same thing-- she didn't polish a good portion of my nail and when I brought it up to her she said it was going to look very bad. she layered so much polish on my nails instead of fixing it properly and it still wasn't done right. I was at the drying station and decided I was going to say something because it genuinely was not a good service. I don't know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't what happened next-- I showed a different person what I was talking about and why I was unhappy with my service and she was understanding and went to get the owner. I have never met a more unprofessional owner in my life. The owner told me that they would fix my nails but I said I didn't have time to do it then because I had to get to another appointment. She kept trying to get me to come in within the next couple days and I was telling her I couldn't. she said to me "next week it will be too late for us to fix" and I told her I wasn't sure what the solution was but I wasn't sure when id be able to get back in but it definitely wouldn't have been within the next couple of days. she never once apologized or empathized with my concerns and would not tell me the name of my technician. she kept trying to get me to come in and get it fixed now and was extremely condescending and aggressive in talking to me about what went wrong and then started raising her voice telling me to come in next week after she just spent ten minutes telling me next week would've been too late. this place may seem like a steal but the level of service I received was not worth it. I'm all for a budget Mani pedi but do yourself a favor and steer clear from this place. Not only were they open but by some miracle they were able to accept me as a walk-in. Whoo hoo! Believe the bad reviews! Gross and most unhygienic, they don't clean or sanitize the stations between customers. One good this is all the employees and a majority of the customers were wearing masks but my nail tech. She looked unprofessional (messy/wrinkled tshirt, hair not done, could barely keep her eyes open). I went in for a mani/pedi and the person who did my nails was the laziest person ever! She rushed through my pedi, cut my nails super short (my toes hurt BC of this), my nails are all uneven, my heels are super rough and she coughed on my toes a few times. She didn't give me a massage either. She didn't move my shoes for me. I am 8 months pregnant. Then we moved onto my manicure. She removed one glove, kept scratching her nose/face. She cut my cuticles so much that I was bleeding. Again cut my nails uneven. I finally asked her to fix my nails, which she did. But they are so short now BC she had to file them down a lot to get them all even. She literally threw lotion on my arms and hands, didn't rub it in/no massage, just one had motion, got a hot towel and wiped it once. This literally did nothing, I had lotion on my arms, hands, underneath my nails. It was so gross. I asked her to wipe it all and she told me no, go wash your hands if you like. Which I did, then I went to pay and asked the reception why this employee is not wearing a mask, and she said "oh I didn't even notice, I will ask her to wear one." The technician finally put on a mask. After she painted my nails, she told me to go to the drying station if I wanted. Didn't help me move my purse, or help me get into the chair (I am 8 months pregnant). I didn't see her wash her hands afterwards, she just went onto the next customer! read more

I'm definitely a fan of this salon. I booked on a whim, loved it, and have been back twice more. It's a small space, but it's really clean, filled with tons of polishes (Essie, OPI, and one other brand) and has a friendly staff. All three times I've been my nail tech has been super nice and did a great job complete with a quick back massage while my hands were wrapped in a warm towel. They also use vitamin e capsules for ultimate skin softness and soak your hands in warm lemon or tea water. For a $15 manicure, you can't beat that! read more

I went here to get a mani/pedi. The overall experience was not very satisfying. They put some type of scrub on my legs, it hurt really bad. Also, my french manicure lasted about 3 days before it started to chip. I do not know if it is because of the nail polish they used or what. I had a solid color (OPI) on my feet and they last 3 weeks now with no problem, but my french mani on my hand was with Essie and it didn't last very long. I saw other customers got a shoulder and back massage, but I didn't get one. :( read more

Unfortunately, the overall uncleanliness has me looking for new salon. This place is sorely in need of a deep cleaning and a new trash can without a broken lid! Have been stopping by here for years. The staff is very patient and really work on the details on your hands and feet. I highly recommend the Spa O Premium Pedicure, they process is so soul recharging and if you want to take the extra step to spoil yourself - squeeze in a 15 min massage too. I went to Spa O with my sister for some girl time. First, the space is very small. Getting to the color wall is an adventure, stepping around patrons and technicians. The chairs are nice and comfortable and the work was satisfactory for the price ($35). However the customer service is abysmal! They have a posted policy of not adding tip to cards. So my sister left to get cash. When she returned, they made her wait to get worked on because she left, even though they were not ready for us when we came in for our appointment. This policy is apparently selectively enforced because we saw another customer leave a tip on her card when we were leaving. The technician who worked on my nails was rude in the extreme. She seemed to resent any direction I gave her. I mean I am paying to have my nails done to my satisfaction, not hers. When she finished with my feet, she just got up and walked away. She did not say bye, help me with my shoes, walk me and my belongings to the dry station or give me a massage that is customary (at this salon) while waiting for my nails to dry. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon with Jen B. She got a pedi, and because I already had tights on when she suggested this activity, I got a mani. Their color section isn't the best - I picked a black and grey scheme for a gothy frenchy, but I was looking for dark grey/light grey. They have a lot of pinks and reds, per usual, but I was hoping for some more up-to-date/modern colors. My manicurist was great, but a little slow. Jen's pedi, which I expected to take longer (and was one of the reasons I went french - because I thought I had extra time), was done at least 15 min before my french manicure. Also the massage was a little rough. Despite these minor gripes, my manicure turned out amazing and really cute. She did a great square shape and the tips were perfect. It lasted about 6 days, which is about all you can ask for in a mani, though I always wish they lasted longer. At $15, it's a good deal too. Nice clean place for a manicure! I didn't feel rushed during my mani pedi and I felt like the woman did a very thorough job. My regular manicure lasted about 4-5 days without any major chips which I consider good. My toes lasted close to two weeks. I just left Spa O it was an awful experience!!! Polish was old and left with brush Mark's. The top coat was the bottom of the bottle. Of course it will never dry. It's been 35 min I polish still wet. I left and went elsewhere. The nail tech never said Hello!!!! When I called to speak to the owner she would not get on the phone. Not a proper business owner. I definitely would not recommend this nail salon!!! read more
