I got the Advanced Lymphatic Lift Facial and it was AMAZING. The spa is so relaxing and serene and Paola does magic with her hands. I went to Spa Sophia after my arms liposuction and I saw Paola for post surgery lymphatic drainage massages. She is absolutely AMAZING! She is knowledgeable, accommodating with her schedule and simply a pleasure to be around. Recovery after surgery is a journey and Paola is helping me SO much, my arms are smooth, my pain subsided and the swollen feeling I had is going away in record time. I have been a client at Spa Sophia for almost 6 years now. All of the estheticians are skilled at what they do. Each of them are also informed about the products that the spa carries as well, which are amazing. I've been using ISun for years now and more recently, Cosmedics. Robyn and Kim are my favorites. The reason I am writing though is to rave about the Abhyanga Massage I received from their wonderful massage therapist Connie. This treatment is above and beyond. Connie has a truly kind and nurturing presence. She is skilled at what she does and is gentle in her touch, yet, is able to target areas of tension and find points where more massage is needed. I felt 100% cared for. The Abhyanga Massage in particular is a must-do. The oils Connie used felt amazing, hours after my treatment. There are herbs in the oil that calm your body. I had a fantastic Esalen massage with Michael a couple weeks ago. The motion used in the massage is so soothing and Michael has a really nice touch. Firm but also gentle at the same time. He really helped me to loosen up and worked out some serious tension in my body. I left feeling relaxed and uplifted by Michael's upbeat energy. I also had some brow maintenance done by Vanessa and it was top notch. I really like my brows to look natural and Vanessa listened to me and was very precise. It was nearly painless and took so much less time than if I sat down to do it myself. Vanessa really goes above and beyond for her clients. Shady business practices. Will not return! **Update: manager reached out shortly after this post and was nice enough to refund my spa treatment and apologized. I added a star back but will still not return personally. ** So my fiancé and I are getting married in less than two weeks and we're told that hydra facials were THE best thing to get before the wedding to look our best. So I did some research (knowing nothing about facials) and found that Spa Sophia was the best rated place near us and the rates seemed reasonable for the procedure. (More expensive than most for common things, but average for this as t is specialized) So my fiancé booked two hydra facial appointments for two weeks in the future. As we arrive, we cannot find the place because the sign is pretty small, but we locate the spa and go upstairs. Once inside we are asked "so who's getting the facial and who's getting the massage?" I should have known then this may not go like I expected but ignored that sign. I told them we both had appointments for facials. She apologized and had us fill out the paperwork. I finished my paperwork first so I went back to get started. Very polite people! I mentioned that I had never done this before but was told how great hydra facials were. The lady said, "oh, you're doing a hydra facial, go ahead and get ready and I'll go get the machine." So like 10 minutes later she comes in and says there is only one hydra facial machine so I agreed it was better for my fiancé to get the fancy one. She said she thought an oxygen facial (whatever the hell that is) would be ok for me. At this point I assume I am getting some lesser cheaper facial and am ok with it. Annoyed I couldn't get what I booked but was going to make the most of it. Procedure was ok, and the technician was actually good with extractions. When I was getting ready I looked up the procedure and found it was even MORE expensive than the one I had scheduled and NO ONE said a damn thing about it. I'm actually quite furious now. But trying to be a good boyfriend, I decide not to make a scene. Thats some shady shit. If you up-sell a person you have to let them know there's a price increase!! I would NEVER have paid that much money for a stupid facial. This was presented to me as an ok alternative... not a more expensive and less effective procedure. Honestly it was so much money flushed down the toilet because there isnt any difference in the after effects of this treatment or the ones you can get for about $45 elsewhere. I get similar results (minus the extractions) from using a Foreo Luna 2 at home and it's $199 to own for the rest of your life. Not for 45 minutes or so of your time. Stay away from this place or if you do go, ask for every price for anything they mention up front. read more

Had the best experience at Spa Sophia. Liz is extremely knowledgeable about skin types and products. First of all, the spa is the cutest, their cleanliness was noticed right upon arrival! Liz's hands were gentle on my face, and her massage pretty much put me to sleep. My thing is EXTRACTIONS! I love extractions. Let me start by saying... the ladies at the front desk are SO sweet. When booking with my tricky schedule they are so patient & do everything they can to accommodate me! Even calling back when openings arise. Right when you walk in they greet you and are both so lovely! I've had two facials here. A signature facial wit Annette and a hydro facial with Robyn! They were both extremely knowledgeable and kind. Recommended products that they both sell or i could grab from whole food. I had seen GREAT results so far. I will continue going every three weeks! I've had - no exaggeration - hundreds of facials from dozens of great estheticians and she's the holy grail Went for my second facial. It was even better than the first. I'm not claiming she's a medical professional but.... Robyn is the first person to identify and remedy the source of my migraines. She's legit guys. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LEGITIMATE DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE. I am so upset and disappointed with Spa Sophia. I booked a 90 min deep tissue massage for my husband for his birthday, as this is all he asked for. After viewing all the positive reviews, I figured I'd go ahead and book the appointment. Upon arrival, my husband filled out paperwork explaining any injuries (he has an injury on his foot and specifically stated to beware of this issue). He had been looking forward to a relaxing massage for a while and couldn't wait. My husband called me shortly after the massage stating it was absolutely the worst massage he had ever experienced, which came as a complete shock as my husband is the last person to ever make a complaint. He told me the massage was hardly a massage (let alone deep tissue) and could be more described as a back rub with little-to-no pressure, the note regarding his foot injury was explicitly ignored and led to further injury, and customer service assistance was minimal and unhelpful upon voicing his concerns after the massage. I am to say the least extremely unhappy with how this experience went, and highly recommend people go elsewhere for massage services. read more

I booked a massage and a facial for my graduation/pre-wedding gift to myself, and I'm so glad I did! The facial: Sophia fell ill the morning I was scheduled, but the receptionist called and got me rescheduled that afternoon. She also gave me a great discount for the inconvenience; excellent customer service! I saw Natasha later that day and WOW WOW WOW, my skin feels amazing. She was incredibly knowledgeable about skin care and gave me so much advice about my own skin issues. She also recommended products that would help with my rosacea, as well as products that would just be good to incorporate into my routine - she wasn't pushy about it though, she wrote everything down and gave me names and websites to look at. My skin is glowing. I mean seriously, I never understood that term before now. My under-eyes look heaps better too. The massage: Believe the hype, Connie has magic hands.... and elbows. My shoulders and neck were killing me, and my quads were so tight I was having trouble getting into my car. If she sensed the slightest tension she would make quick work of the area, it was honestly so great. I'm working out 5 days a week before the wedding, and I'm sore, but after that massage I'm not tight - I can move! I actually found the price to be quite reasonable compared to other spas. Bliss, Claudalie, and spas located inside major hotels all charge more but have poor reviews. I would say Spa Sophia is 50% pampering yourself and 50% self care. After this visit I feel like these are things I should be doing not just for my vanity, but for my health. read more

I have had the pleasure of Spa Sophia's facials twice now and advise you, while still under the swoony influence of my treatment today, get your beautiful face down to Spa Sophia and ask for Amanda or Robin. (Though I have a feeling that given the quality of these facials, you would be literally in good hands with any one of the specialists curated to work at Spa Sophia.) Tell them heaven sent you. I've never dealt with acne til early October of last year. Went to different clinics to get help but nothing worked. If anything, my skin broke out more. Been on sprinolactone and birth control for how many months now but it was when I went to spa Sophia recently that my skin actually got better. Kimberly gave me tips on how to take care of my skin at home and the facial she did really helped my skin a lot. My acne has dried up and shrunk and now my scars are lightening up already with just the first visit in the clinic. I highly recommend this clinic. I realize that I'm the oddball out here, but I need to post this. I've seen Sophia twice for brazilian waxing. Both times she did a great job and the procedure was noticeably *not as painful* as the other places I've been to, and I've tried a bunch. However, none of those other places got me sick every time I went. I'm healthy, I have a good immune system. I'm routinely around sick people and I don't get sick. I've been waxed at other places and not gotten sick. However, something about the products she uses or the level of sanitation in that place has caused me no end of trouble. The first time I went, I got a yeast infection afterward that took 2 rounds of treatment to clear up: two weeks of discomfort and frustration. The second time I went, I got a urinary tract infection. I don't get these kinds of infections very often at all, I'm 40 and this is only the second UTI in my life. Anyway, I'm never going there again. Sophia seems nice, but her sanitation procedures are causing me no end of trouble. read more

I wanted to love Sophia and her place, located in a little wooden-beamed lofty nest on Abbott Kinney. I have been waxing my bikini and getting facials for years now and have definitely experienced the gamut from absolutely awful to spot-on blissful. Facials and waxing with Sophia lacked attention to detail...changing her playlist in the middle of songs while I was on the table in mid-massage, clanging of bottles and product and a very lack luster neck and shoulder massage to boot. But, I returned several times because I really liked her space and it is conveniently located if you live in the Venice area. Here is where the one star comes in... I went in for a wax and in the middle of the process, as i'm trying to relax, a woman walks straight into the room and is looking straight at me. Sophia forgot to lock the outdoor patio door and talk about an awkward situation... It is not so much the incident that bothers me as it is the way Sophie handled the situation. While she did apologize to me, she profusely apologized to the other woman even after the woman shut the door and left, and at the end of the day she still charged me full price and did not offer any type of offer or discount for the compromised service. WOW! What an amazing experience. I got my first facial from Amanda last week, and I'm hooked! The spa has really cute decor and a very serene atmosphere. I went in on a day that I had about 100 things racing through my mind, got to get this done, have to pick this up, blah blah blah.. As soon as Amanda put her hands on my face it was like what huh ummm what did i have to do? Ah screw it never mind, who cares... this facial is amazing! I was instantly put into the most relaxed trance. Amanda has a very nurturing touch and energy. You have no choice but to give into the pampering! My favorite part was all the extra little rubs, shoulders, arms, hands... total heaven. I have really sensitive skin so facials can go very wrong with me, If someone is too rough on my face its two weeks of looking like rudolph. And then on the other hand if someone is too gentle then I see no difference at all. Amanda found the perfect balance. I definitely felt like she was gettin in there, but I had no lasting redness.
