My kids favorite ride. My son used to never want to go on but now he loves it and Space Mountain has always been one of my daughters favorite rides. I think there is something about being in the dark and being a roller coaster that makes you feel like you are going super-fast. Each twist, turn, and dip feels just a little scarier when you can't really see what is coming up ahead of you. I remember years ago they did various overlays on the ride. Of course they still do Hyper Space Mountain for Star Wars days but years ago they did an overlay with music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I think that was the best. Even though the track is the same the different sounds and music make the ride feel different. We also miss the Halloween overlay this year, the creature is scary but so cool during Halloween. The ride is a bit bumpy so I would stay away of you have back and neck issues (not as bad as the Matterhorn however, that is a very bumpy ride!). read more

My favorite ride in Disneyland is Space Mountain. It has been my favorite ride in the park even since I was tall enough to ride it. Space Mountain is the signature attraction of Tomorrowland and is considered one of the 4 "mountains" in Disneyland, with the other three being Splash, Matterhorn and Big Thunder Railroad. It is the second version, closely modeled after the attraction in the Magic Kingdom. The attraction serves as a space station and the ride itself is supposed to simulate space flight. An astronaut, Gordon Cooper, was hired on as a consultant to try to accurately yet safely portray spaceflight given the unique circumstances. It first opened to the public in 1977, with a reopening in 2005 after an extensive remodel that resulted in an overhaul of the track, car and improved special effects. For a time being there was a Star Wars overlay and this attraction was briefly called "Hyperspace Mountain". Now due to Galaxy's Edge being open the attraction has reverted to its 2005 version. The ride is an indoor roller coaster lasting about 3:00. Because it stimulates space flight, it's a dark ride so all you see is the stars plus the light effects in the beginning and ending portions. Wouldn't recommend it if you're claustrophobic or susceptible to motion sickness, though it's not as fast as one would think it runs. Because Space Mountain is one of the most popular rides in the park, some strategy is required so that you're not waiting in line for an insane amount of time. It's one of the few rides where I would not only just get a fastpass, I would make this ride one of the first or last rides you go on. Going on first there's always less people, while if you go towards the evening an hour or two before park closing the line goes by more quickly *and* the ride speeds up! With Space Mountain being my favorite ride, I try to go on it at least once per visit. So far I have always managed to do so. Space mountain is one of the most popular rides at Disneyland. It's been around forever and hasn't changed all that much in the 20 or so years I've been coming to Disneyland. I think that's what makes it popular especially for adults. It's located in tomorrow land and you can get there easily on the monorail from downtown Disney if that's your thing. Make sure to pick up a fast pass in the morning, right near the entrance. Otherwise the wait can get into the 90-120 minute range. It's a roller coaster ride in the dark. It's exhilarating and fast and you gotta go at least once during Halloween time because it's "themed". I enjoy riding space mountain and then going to pizza planet for pasta. Not the other way around lol. It's definitely an experience and I'd recommend it, especially if you love roller coasters! read more

Space Mountain was my all-time favorite ride at Disneyland as it was the most thrilling, or so I thought as a youngster. The older I got, I realized that the visual effects are what made it more thrilling than it actually was. Opened in 1977, it's the second iteration of the ride that resides in five of Disney's parks. This version is a little smaller than the original one in the Magic Kingdom which features dual tracks. EXPERIENCE: Being a product of the 70's, the look today is retro, but it only adds to the charm and brings back fond childhood memories. After a long and seemingly endless queue, you finally make it inside the "mountain" where you can see the loading platform and riders blasting off. Wait, OMG, the line is still going!? Yup, you still need to circle the perimeter of the building before boarding. Grr! This by far is the worst queue line as you can see so far ahead of you, unlike Splash Mountain which messes with your visuals. So how does a rollercoaster without any inversions and a top speed of 35 mph stay popular? Because it's indoors and in the dark! It's a mix of darkness, special lighting effects, and music that makes this juvenile-class coaster fun, even for adults. Spinning and motion-style lighting effects in the tunnels ups the speed factor, visually. Also, not being able to see where you're going makes things a lot more fun and unnerving. You really do feel like you're in outer space with the cool a/c blowing through your hair and the stars all around you whizzing by in your peripherals. The drops aren't real high but are still fun, along with jarring, side-to-side banking. Every now and then, you can faintly make out a section of coaster above you which makes you flinch in fear of smacking your noggin against it. Ride time is an average two minutes or so. I was very disappointed as the last time we were here, Space Mountain just closed down for a multi-year renovation. But, that's when I discovered Splash Mountain which easily became my favorite ride in the park! Five stars and a definite crowd favorite! Space Mountain is so popular so I would definitely recommend hitting up this ride early in the morning or otherwise, you will be waiting in line forever! When my husband and I came to the park, we made a very wide decision to ride all the major biggies in the morning. First we rode Star Tours (in which we were only in line for 15 minutes) then we went on Space Mountain (which only took us 20 minutes to stand in line and trust me, this is one of the longest lines you will stand in)! Boarding the ship is super exciting because, it instantly blasts off into space in the dark and the only thing you see of you are stars! What's nice about this attraction is the fact that it is in the dark so, the ride naturally feels faster and trust, they are tons of twists and turns and thrills and excitement. First timer! The last time I was in Disneyland I didn't know anything about the FastPass feature and this popular ride always had long lines that I completely avoided riding it. Whoohoo! for FastPass! Best roller coaster ride in Disneyland, in my opinion. The ride has been going by Hyperspace Mountain since 2015 but is now just called Space Mountain and is one of Disneyland's four "mountain" structures that represent as park landmarks. This ride is located in Tomorrowland (blue section in your park map). This is an iconic attraction and the thrilling intergalactic ride through space was "a blast!" We felt as if we were rocketing through the galaxy! Regret not going on this ride before. It's a huge rollercoaster and I enjoyed how smooth the ride was and how fun and tight the turns were. The ride consists of many turns and small dips. The music also brings the whole experience to another level! I did get a bit dizzy towards the end but not too bad. Space Mountain is a great coaster for those who aren't into the extreme thrills of large coasters, and those who enjoy theming even in thrill rides. The sights, sounds, and even smells bring back fond memories to this day of when I was a little kid finally moving beyond the tame rides in Fantasyland. I see people get frustrated with the Cast Members on this ride, and admit they are a little more pushy than you're used to for any other ride in the parks. This is necessary though, so please be kind to them! This ride is pushed to the max for it's capacity. If the shuttles aren't dispatched at just the right intervals, it quickly cascades and shuts down the ride. I've stood on the walkways over the load platform and watched and the CMs are orchestrated and operating like a well oiled machine. So if they ask you to go to a certain numbered row, ask you to scoot forward, and ask you to quickly get into your rocket and sit down, please follow their instructions! I wish I had known how awesome it was so that I could have ridden the ride early in the day and then used my fast pass later in the day to ride it more than once. Now I know. This ride was by far my most favorite. This was my 1st time at Disneyland and I guess that's the best thing since I didn't know what to expect on this ride. Yes, of course there is a somewhat long wait but as time passes you eventually make it to the front of the line. I only had the fast pass which still had a little bit of a wait but let's be real, if you're coming to an amusement park it's to be expected. Anyway, the set and scene is kind of like the inside of the Spaceship Enterprise from Star Trek but in Disney style. I know I know it's supposed to be Star Wars themed. Get off my butt! Fast forward to getting onto the ride....you get buckled in and secure your belongings and such and the ride cranks you into the dark tunnels that lead into space. Then you friggin blast off at warp speed into space. I nearly lost my mind right then and there on how fast it was. I'm usually cool and collected on rides but I was lit..erally a crazy person. Almost like I was instantly turned into an eight year old kid giggling and hoopin and hollerin with eyes glazed over in extreme enjoyment. The total darkness and complete surrounding of stars and starships is so amazingly done graphically. Then.....it goes faster!!! I.....CAN.....NOT...EVEN!!!!!! I mean....there is a part where you're like at hypermaximumsupermegaultra warp speed and you're riding through the stars and that part took the cake! It was just so beautiful. I really felt like I was rocketing through the constellations and galaxy. I have never been on a ride that literally made me feel like I was not based in reality. It almost doesn't seem real, or at least it didn't to me. My mind stopped trying to tell me I was still at Disneyland and just let go into the experience. Loved this ride before the renovation when it was just "Space Mountain". It has always been one of my top rides at the Park, if not THE top ride! Now that it has it's Star Wars theme, it's still awesome! I think it may even be a bit darker and faster than before, but not sure. Either way, it still makes me smile and laugh all the way through. I love every single thing about it from the waiting in line (even if it's long) to the sounds while you are inside the steel mountain to the coaster itself to posing for the photo at the end of the ride. I can NOT get enough of this magnificent mountain of blips, beeps, shooting stars, speed, darkness, curves, turns and all the laughter it brings from my belly! The ride is long enough to give you a great fun-filled experience but yet keeps you wanting to go back for more! I definitely don't feel like I get ripped off by waiting in line for a ride like it feels with some of the other rides... (yeah, you hear me, submarine ride) Although the theme of the ride itself is different and super cool, inside my heart this is still my beloved Space Mountain with all the memories and excitement of when I was growing up. The first time I rode after renovations, I heard the Star Wars theme playing and it gave me chills and kinda made my eyes water. Fly your craft and help your side of the force simply by riding over and over again and again to acquire more space! Either way you can go wrong with a trip to hyperspace as it's never no time to waste just hurry posthaste to acquire your fast pass before there's no more space! Space is no waste as it's always a must when a trip to Disney happens it's always been good and it's cool to see them change it up a bit for a Star Wars theme! The line can get super long as it's always busy so plan accordingly to get your ride in because it's always awesome for everyone! My fav ride between both parks! Recently FYI, it reverted back to regular space mountain. They took all the Star Wars touches out (again). Not sure if this version is permanent. We missed the Halloween version last Halloween! Hopefully they bring that back in 2020! The front is the best! It seems to go so much faster than the back. Also, when Star Wars IS part of the ride, the back misses a lot of the videos projected on the walls. Be ready to cry your eyes out from the front's wind tho lol. Beware this ride always breaks ... prob close to once per day haha. The line is also bananas as well ... unless you're strategic and catch it right after it breaks! The pic is on the last turn. I believe this was our first ride of the day on Monday, November 19th, probably around 9:30am. I think the height requirement for this one is 40", so the older kids aged 4.5 to 7 years were able to ride. This ended up being my favorite ride. I have fond memories of Space Mountain being my first ride ever at Disneyland. Though I don't recall it being so pitch black at spots. I swear there were stars zooming by the whole time. I guess they got rid of that? Most of the kids had fun, but one ended up being scared. I don't think he necessarily enjoyed the ride. The same thing happened with my brother back in the day, so maybe the non roller coaster loving kids should sit this one out. I can see how it can be scary with all the darkness. Space Mountain~ one of the best rides in Disneyland. My friend and I ran to get fast passes right when we went in the park. We arrived at about 1:30pm and ran directly there to get fast passes. When we received the pass, our time was at 11:20am-12:00am. So many people got sat passes that when we arrived at 1:30, we got a time super late, but we went anyways. My friend and I wanted to get on the ride as soon as possible, so at 10:30pm, we figured that we could try getting on the ride 50 minutes early and see if they would let us. We explained to the person who collected the fast passes that our school bus would leave soon so we wanted to get on, and thankfully, she let us! So we walked in the fast pass line and barely waited! Usually the wait time is about 95 minutes, but we only waited 15! I still remember when the ride was not Star Wars themed, but only pitch black with starts lighting the way. The line went super fast and we got on the ride. REMEMBER TO HOLD ONTO YOUR THINGS ON THE RIDE. I felt like my stuff was about to fly off the ride! It was so fast and kept on going faster and faster! Space Mountain started off slow, but accelerated overtime. The sudden lurches are the best! Sometimes it becomes so dark you cannot even see anything then all of a sudden it drops. The only bad thing about this ride is that it's really short. I really wish they made the ride longer, but no doubt this is one of the best rides there is. Space Mountain will forever be one of my favorite Disney rides, let alone the best in Tomorrowland. While I have ridden the one in Florida a thousand times, I have only been on this one a couple, but happen to find the changes a tad bit more exciting. The lines easily get long here, so Fastpasses are recommended. Sadly the queue line is not as nice at this one, since there isn't much to look at while waiting. But once you finally get on the ride, it is so worth it. The ride itself makes you feel like you are actually in a rocket ship, where you are zooming through space. It is so dark, and all you can see are the stars...which is what makes it so awesome. Space Mountain is one of the rides that I hope stays for a very, very long time! read more

Hyperspace Mountain is an indoor roller coaster attraction located in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. This version is pretty much a Star Wars overlay over the Space Mountain ride. It's seasonal, meaning that it will go away in a few months. While you're waiting outside in line, Admiral Ackbar gives you a short briefing to investigate a Star Destroyer around Jakku. You are recruited as a pilot to do a reconnaissance mission with 77 squadron providing support. The safety spiel runs and at the end Admiral Ackbar says "Good luck and may the force be with you." As you move further down the line in the building, you'll see stat charts written in Aurebesh (the Star Wars alphabet) regarding Planet Jakku, the X-Wing Fighter, and the Star Destroyer. In regards to the ride itself, you will be boarding a reconnaissance vessel (the Hyperspace Mountain rocket) assisting 77 Squadron. After the first lift hill, you hear all your fellow X-Wing pilots report in for the mission. Admiral Ackbar then wishes you luck. Upon reaching the 2nd lift hill, you are sent into Hyperspace and once you are out, you are ambushed immediately by TIE Fighters. By the 3rd lift hill, you encounter the Star Destroyer where Admiral Ackbar yells, "It's a trap!" Pretty much the duration of the ride is you avoiding the crazy battle between the TIE Fighters and the X-Wings. 77 Squadron shoots down the Star Destroyer, the camera takes a picture of you, and you are sent back to base. There's a lot more sound and visual effects going on in this ride as opposed to the original Space Mountain and Ghost Galaxy. You hear voiceovers as well as seeing Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters shooting lasers. All laser effects are shown on the screen projections. Laser sound effects are just like from the Star Wars movies. The ride also features a new soundtrack recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra specifically for Disneyland. This ride is much more exciting compared to the original Space Mountain ride. Every time I'm in the launching sequence into Hyperspace, I always get hyped up. Some of the projections are off on the sides so you won't see much if you're staring straight ahead. The ride motions are basically the same as what it was on Space Mountain including the speed and turns. So even when I rode Hyperspace for the first time, I was able to predict when the camera would take the picture. By the way, it seems Disneyland tends to recycle and conserve a lot of things. In other words, all those projections they used to display the ghost effects on Ghost Galaxy are basically replaced with the visual effects of TIE fighters and Star Destroyers. Unlike Space Mountain or Ghost Galaxy where you never see the track, on Hyperspace Mountain there's one part where the track lights up during one of the small drops so you see part of the track. This is when the TIE Fighters are shooting lasers in your direction. Overall, what they did with this ride in terms of the visual effects was superb. I feel this version definitely beats the Ghost Galaxy overlay as well as the original Space Mountain ride. It's like an actual Star Wars adventure. I'd definitely go on this ride again. read more

Ok, so this is the most fun ride in Disneyland! BUT it's also got the LONGEST lines!! Came on a sunday to the parks and decided to get fast pass, at 12noon, the fast pass were scheduling for 12midnight, Holy cow! This ride is hella popular! We decided to do a couple of the other rides before hitting this one. Finally made it here around 6pm, and the waiting line is 1 hour and 35min! Holy cow! Well, we had no choice but to wait in the long long line until my back was hurting. The ride itself is very cool and very fun!! It was a rollercoaster in the dark with all sorts of special effects! I'm not sure I can say that it's worth the almost 2 hours of waiting for a less than 5min ride, but it's cool! read more

I have been riding this ride for a little over thirty years and it is still just as good. It really is a must-hit attraction on a visit to Disneyland. The ride has gone through some renovations over the year and I think they have really fine-tuned the experience. You start your journey as you enter the giant space station complete with all the sounds you could expect and make your way down to your rocket and get ready to embark. The countdown begins and you ascend to the darkness above and you are sent off on your journey through space. The coaster itself consists of dips and sharp turns as you wind your way down the track. Plenty of chances for your stomach to feel like it's been left behind and then catch up with you. The music cranks in your ears, the darkness has you confused as to what direction you will go next and the surprises keep coming. I think that is what makes this so fun....the unknown. The lines here can get pretty long, back in the day it was a definite fast pass. I would grab the lightning lane now or hit it when the park opens or is about to close. Another cool thing is if you happen to come on a themed night they add some nice touches. I came on Star Wars Night and Tie Fighters were zipping around. CHEERS!!! read more

This ride is for pretty much anyone who can meet the height requirement (basically a 6 year old). There are no major drops or loops. There are plenty of high speed turns and speed! Relax your body, launch your butt and hold on to your lunch because this is a fun one! Long lines suck, but this is a ride worth the wait. Try fast pass. After realizing we had FastPasses for Star Tours and Splash Mountain for the same time, we finished up Star Tours and rushed here- just in the nick of time. From Tomorrowland to Main St to Critter Country in the back. Skipping the lines and waiting for maybe 5-10 minutes, we entered. If you want to get wet, take the front. If you wanna stay 85% dry, take seat #4. You get to go up, chill, relax, enjoy the water, enjoy the theme park, but you get a sick drop. You look at it with despair and you think, there was a mini sick drop in the middle of the ride. There can't possibly be another, right? Wrong xD The ride is really fun, especially if you love water rides. It's similar to the Calico Log Ride (wait is this the right ride :P ) I would say at Knotts, but a bit wetter :D. You get through the most of the ride (the ride goes by medium speed) and then the free fall comes at you, where the picture is snapped and you start being like NBOOOOOOJWEOKOO.. I think I scared the 2 random people behind me :P I was like WHERE IS THE DROP I KNOW THERE'S A DROP and they were like omg this guy is scared we should be scared too. Sorry! :P FastPass: YES! Space Mountain was closed the other year when my husband & I came with our friends. We were so bummed! I remember this ride being so fast and fun when I was young and wanted to try and ride it again. Last time around we saw it was open and my sister in-law & I decided to give it a go. This ride is one of the most popular so the line was really long, as expected. However, it moved pretty quick and we enjoyed the a/c and the downtime while waiting. Space mountain is a rollercoaster ride and probably the fastest and most exhilarating ride in all of Disneyland. As you blast off in spaceship themed pods, you're transported into 'outerspace.' It was so dark throughout the whole ride with dots of lights here, beams of color there. You really can't tell which direction your going as you make sharp dips and turns and invade the space of your seat mate. Lol. Overall, it was A-OK, but way way too dark for me and whole ride made me super nauseous. I actually developed a really bad headache after the ride. I don't think I'll be going on it again any time soon as I'm more sensitive to motion sickness these days. Sad face as I really love/loved rollercoasters back in the day. My sister in-law loved it though! This ride will always be a Disneyland staple no doubt, but it's not for the faint of heart or the easily motion sick ;P read more

Space Mountain is one of my Disneyland favorites. The line is usually long, so I always pick up a fast pass. Same goes for Ghost Galaxy. The additions to the ride are basically like the name. You have ghastly images of galaxies shaped as ghosts. It's dark, it's loud, and it's a blast! read more

Star Wars themed Space Mountain. I won't spoil it for you all but the Star Wars theme was just mainly at the beginning of the ride. Hence the 4-stars and not 5. I love Disneyland...i do i do, but they should have added a ton more Star Wars stuff to it. Fast pass it...I wouldn't wait 2 hours for Hyperspace. Love you Disneyland!! :) read more

One of the best & fastest rides here. Get the fast pass tho cuz this is also the ride with the longest wait almost always bout a hour wait. But once you get there & get on you best hold on cuz it's crazy fast! It actually feels like you're in space it's all dark with fake stars & that's all you can see! At times it feels like you're cart is bout to come off the rails! Great ride if you're going for speed. This is the ride for teenagers & adults who love speed & like speeding in the freeway! Just close you're eyes & pretend you're in a speed chase & enjoy! Just make sure you haven't eaten within the hour cuz you might toss you're cookies or the Turkey leg they sell here. And if you're a senior citizen well you should try it's a "Small World" that's the ride for you :) but again if you love speed & speed chases & you're heart is good this ride is for you enjoy it with eyes close its fun! read more

Hyped-Mountain I think it was deceitful of Disneyland to market this ride through commercials as if it was something new and worth the high price of admission. The reality is that it's a cheap hack to exploit Star Wars fans. Then again, judging by the five stars reviews anything Star Wars will get raves from fanboys. Star Wars poop anyone? Maybe I missed the point. There were no updated special effects of note for this "Star Wars / Space Mountain" ride. Was this an ode to 1977? Pretty lame overlays.. I actually feel bad for the people that rushed here and waited in line expecting something new. Don't come to Disneyland because you think this is going to be a great ride.. It's no different than any of the other incarnations of Space Mountain. BTW, why not bring back space mountain with the rock music.. That was cool. read more

So many people say and suggest that Disneyland isn't a cool place and that they don't have any rides that cut it! Well they are totally wrong because Space Mount is an amazing, thrilling ride in the dark while looking at the night sky. How much better can it get? This ride is on my top 5 every time I enter Disneyland. Like many people here know the line for this ride is always long and it runs about 60 mins and onward. I do suggest that if you come to Disneyland in the early mornings than you should go and get a fast pass. So that you can enter at a better time and not wait as long of a line. I always feel like a kid and I get so giddy and happy when I think about getting on this ride. My heart beats fast, I feel sort of like euphoric that I am able to experience such a great ride. I don't know if it because it is dark and what it is but when you go into this ride it is almost like you are somewhere else. Somewhere that you don't get to be everyday and I love that feeling. Space Mountain - Waiting in a line but not that bad :) - Amusement Parks Near Me - Anaheim, California

I've been riding Space Mountain since the 1980's and have seen many changes & additions over the decades. I've loved the original, I enjoyed when the Red Hot Chili Peppers added their soundtrack onto the ride, and I also really liked Ghost Galaxy. When I heard that Space Mountain would receive a Star Wars overlay called Hyperspace Mountain as part of the park's "Season of the Force" in 2015, I was really looking forward to it! Unfortunately I was slightly disappointed. Maybe because my expectations were so high, maybe because the standby line is normally 90-120 minutes long, or maybe because you have to get a Fast Pass early in the morning before they stop issuing them, etc. When I went the day after Thanksgiving on Friday November 27th, 2015; I got a Fast Pass at 11:20am, and the return time was for 8:10pm. By noon time, they were done issuing Fast Pass for the rest of the day. As for the ride, it is cool to hear John Williams' Star Wars theme, but the visuals that they added were kind of weak. There aren't enough room inside Space Mountain, so they are limited on displaying projectile images of the Star Destroyer, Tie-Fighters & X-Wings on the walls. Majority of the time, you just hear voices & sound effects without any images tied onto them. Space Mountain is a difficult ride to try & incorporate another popular genre onto it, but at least it's different. As for the extremely long standby line, it's a disappointment to wait that long for this enhancement. It's best to get a Fast Pass for this ride, or wait in line just before the park closes. read more

OMG! The changes they made for Star Wars are amazing! It's a story line ... Not just a ride through the dark surrounded by stars. You could feel a tie fighter on your backside shooting blasters as your X-wing speeds through space. That drop with the tie-fighter in front of you--- Amazing. Goosebumps. 5 stars! If you didn't grow up on Star Wars, you might think, "Meh, nice ride." But if you grew up fantasizing about flying through the stars and willing an object to move with the force at 8 years old, then this ride is for you! Best ride at Disneyland! Fast-pass it or plan to spend a couple hours in line. Better yet, get a VIP host for the day and enjoy all the cool E-ticket rides through the fast-pass lines without having to pick up a pass! ERMAHGAHHDDDD!!!!!!! Best ride EVER! I am an annual passholder and after being on the regular Space Mountain and Ghost Galaxy version several times, I can safely say that this is the best version of the ride! The music in the beginning just gets you pumped up and my only complaint is that the ride is too short :( Protip: Always get a fastpass. The 90 minute average wait is no bueno, especially since the the ride "breaks" down so many times during the day. I've always liked this ride but they changed the ride car since I've last been on. The lap restraint hit me right at the belly button and it's incredibly uncomfortable being whipped around with the lap restraint punching you in the gut. I get that this ride has to stay dark because it allows them to fit a lot of track in one room without the aesthetics ruining the attraction, but it could really use some lighting to make it worth having your eyes open. read more
