Honestly the service was good and the sandwich was not the worst French dip I've had. It was at least not dry. Besides that, this is a joke of an excuse for a sandwich, much less a $20 sandwich. It would need to be three times the protein portion to be satisfying. DO NOT waste your money on this item and just get a burger. Extremely disappointing for a place I've otherwise been able to rely on. I now will have to be buying a second dinner somewhere else. I'd think this was a joke if it wasn't so frustrating. read more

A good place to stop in for a drink and a bite, especially if it's happy hour. The music is loud and the green well-lit bar sets a fun mood along with the TVs showing the latest sports and even one with cartoons. The wings were spicy and large. The drinks were cold and unique. The burgers were okay, as burgers go, but came out so quickly that we questioned if they were already made when we ordered them. The bacon seemed cold and the cheese never melted. The question, "how do you want your burger cooked?" plays into the fantasy that they will actually not cook them all the same and that you might actually get what you asked for. Our server was on point, visiting many times to see that all was well. Four stars instead of five for a very wobbly table, ice waters without ice, and crusty "left behinds" on the table condiment tops. read more

Bleh, the food at Spanky's is not great. Inside, it's nicer than your typical college bar/food stop, but if you're over 25, your money can get you much better food. Just can't recommend. It was a busy night but that's not an excuse. Visited on a Friday night because my husband wanted a burger. I got the impossible burger, which had peppers, arugula, pesto aoili on top. Asked for cheese instead of peppers, server said that was no problem. When asked for sides she pointed out the sides section at the bottom for our options, both of us got onion rings. We also got cocktails which came quickly, food took a bit longer but still pretty quick. Cocktails were SO SWEET we could hardly drink them, did not taste any alcohol at all just sugar. My husband even tried a second different one, said the same, way too sweet. Burgers came and I will say my husband did really like his. Mine on the other hand had absolutely no flavor. The peppers were left off, but the cheese was not added. Arugula was 3 sad little leaves, "pesto aioli" was just mayo. Our server never came back so I didn't mention the missing cheese, it wasn't the end of the world. Onion rings were burnt and a little pile of maybe 5 or 6. Waitress finally comes back to drop off the bill and it seemed huge for the quality meal we just had. Impossible burger was $2 more than the other but whatever, that's pretty standard. However it was totally bland, not seasoned at all. Then $1.50 was added for my invisible cheese, and $2 for each of the onion ring sides. None of which we were told would be an upcharge. Just really frustrating when a disappointing meal is overpriced. $22.50 for a sad burger with no flavor and burnt onion rings, pass. read more

We're regulars that work across the street at the University and come over to Spanky's often. On this particular day we came in and had a server name Chris who we've never had before. He's rude and kept wasting beer all over me when he would bring drinks. I asked him nicely to stop spilling beer on me and he's like "oh I'm wasting beer." Yes sir you are and don't get an attitude with me because I want you to stop spilling beer all over me "PLEASE" by far my worse experience at Spank'y for how many times we come over. I thought this place rocked. My husband and I were looking for a place that served brunch on a Sunday afternoon; i.e., true brunch with both breakfast and lunch options. I happened upon Spanky's in a Google search. While it pretty much just looks like a sports bar, I was really pleased with the food and service. It was around 1:30p and we chose a booth in the bar, but it looked like they also have a screened-in patio. It's a comfy place to hang out and watch a game. We asked for a specific NFL game, and our server was happy to put it on for us. Plenty of TVs if you're into football. I ordered the Jam burger, and my husband got the All American burger. We also asked for some queso dip for our tater-tot sides, and we each got a good-size cup for just $1 each. I was impressed by the food. Tots were crispy, queso sauce great, and my burger was super delicious. We also ordered some mimosas, well really it was just brut because we didn't get any juice! But they do offer bottomless mimosas if you're looking for that. Our server was chill but really friendly and we were checked on often and got everything we needed. How you could order food with the stench of a lagoon on an industrial pig farm is beyond me, but certainly not for me either. SURPRISE!! Spanky's is super nice now. This is not the same place I used to come while at DU. They remodeled a while back and it was nice to see how updated and clean the restaurant is. We sat on the patio and I was happy to see misters in the corners and TVs everywhere. The service was good for one person taking care of most the customers. I had the Fish and Chips while my friend had the Paleo Bowl. The battered fish was delish! It was light and not overly fried. It came with a pretty good tarter sauce and lemons. The fries were standard and a bit cold/stiff so they may have been made earlier. My friend said the Paleo Bowl was "shockingly good"! It had tons of veggies and a spicy broth that tasted a bit like coconut and ginger.. I was very surprised by the quality of food at Spanky's and how nice the restaurant is. Their new summer Seafood Boil is amazing!! Well cooked, well seasoned, utterly delicious. The accompanying drinks are also tasty. I had the Jameson Peach Tea & my husband had the cucumber drink. DJ is fun, takes requests, the volume wasn't crazy. Servers are on top of drinks and food, and very personable. Used to love coming here but after my last visit I think Ive had my fill. To start, I will mirror the other comments about bad service. Each time I've come it's something new. The first time, the server was so eager to get the check to us/his tip that he kept coming back to pick it up before we had even put a card down. We genuinely had to tell him " thank you for your patience as we enjoy the company." It was clear he just wanted to get us out when we were very clearly chatting, drinking, etc. This last time, our server was Rex who was not bad, per se, he just wasn't terribly attentive/amiable. He was not unkind but didn't appear to love his job or really want to provide good service. The food is always fine/good enough not to complain but, the ambiance has changed as they've embraced the old "Spanky" ways. They've made the menu really cartoonish and started catering to the college demographic in a lot of ways. I preferred a little more sophistication. Not my fave, won't be back. read more
