For many years this was our favorite diner to get breakfast or lunch. Thus after the fire we looked forward to its reopening. Unfortunately our recent visit was a major disappointment. My wife ordered the the spinach Cobb salad with chicken - price was an astounding $19.90. I ordered the Italian chicken panini at $14.95. My wife's salad was good but at almost $20.00 was terribly overpriced. My smallish chicken sandwich was also good and came with a small side order of fries. With beverages and tip the bill was slightly over $50.00 which is ridiculous for a lunch. All the food is now very over priced. We will not be back - so sad. What do you picture when you think of a "Greek Salad Quinoa Bowl, w/Grilled Chicken?" (...and why is it called a "bowl?" Yes I know it's served in a friggin' bowl, trendy garbage item naming.) I went with a party of 9 and was sat almost immediately! We were greeted quickly and got our waters and coffee fast! All of the food was delicious and we enjoyed dessert as well as a vegan burger, Taylor ham, and pot pies! However, I asked the server a few questions regarding my dietary needs and if I could eat the onion rings that were delivered with my vegan burger and she never got back to me. Along with that we were ignored several times when asking for a group photo and other questions. They said they would help or find out and would just walk away and ignore us. I feel like I haven't been able to find a diner I would highly rate. Food and service were okay here. I ordered chocolate chip pancakes. They were fine but the chocolate chips were burned (you may be able to see in photos). The side of potatoes were disappointing. They were not seasoned - I had to add a lot of salt/pepper to them. Good size portion for a side but wish they were more flavorful. Another dish ordered was the Breakfast Sliders off the specials menu and a side of sausage links. I didn't taste anything besides the sausage so I can only comment on that and it was good - not overcooked. I'd return for simple breakfast food but still looking for a diner to wow me! read more

Today I am being ruthless. In my past I've been to many diners; most of which have disappointed me increasingly. Yet, I had hope for the new Sparta Diner, let's take a trip to the past. 2012, April. I went to the Diner for the first time, my seating right under the air vent. Me, cold. My drink even colder, me dying of hypothermia. That was fine though, I've always had hypothermia. The problem wasn't really anything. It was fine...JUST fine. I didn't expect much, but I wanted more; from my community, my people, and my food. The staff is fine I liked them, nice people, sometimes I see kids from my school; I run and I cry. I do know that one of my friends ate the calamari off of their menu 3 years ago and got food poisoning. So wouldn't calamari, but the grilled cheese *chefs kiss*. Sparta Diner where do I begin? 1. They actually started off using all fresh ingredients in most of their food. And it was above average , a little pricey. At that time their menu was to extensive so some things you just learned not to order. A $25 pasta dish was more like soup with noodles. 2. I am convinced after ordering for my last time all they use is frozen food and it's disgusting. I ordered a grilled chicken salad for the second time. The chicken was rubber. I spit it out. I figured one time maybe it was a bad day give them another shot. I know we get hungry but I discovered a new place on Door Dash. I don't advertise for businesses but check my other reviews out. When me and my friends came to this place it looked very nice and wholesome but the food is ok...The fries tasted pretty nice and weren't greasy at all...My grilled cheese was falling apart when the gave it to me and didn't taste like much...It tasted like salted bread with not a lot of flavor and the onions weren't even caramelized...This place was ok at best...But I really don't think I will be coming back!!!!!!! read more

Sometimes, you wake hungover and the only thing that will satisfy is a classic NJ diner. Sparta diner was there for me in a time of need, and executed flawlessly. Is it weird that I ordered a mozzarella sticks appetizer for breakfast? In any case, it was a great decision. The plate was overflowing with fried crispy and cheesy goodness. I had to stop myself after a few to leave room for my next item on the agenda- a BLT. I don't order BLTs a lot, but for some odd reason I had a really strong craving. Epic choice on my part (way to go, me) because this was an unforgettable BLT and had a crunchy piece of bacon in each bite. There is a really intense menu here, and you can pretty much order anything imaginable. They had a really vast selection of sandwiches, salads, wraps, paninis and soups and everything sounded bomb. I'm definitely not in this neck of the woods often, but I find comfort in knowing that they've got a diner who will always have my back. read more

Relaxed beautiful morning and hungry tummies. Landed up at diner for brunch. I started off with a strawberry milkshake (don't judge me ;-)), my wife with coffee. Shake did come in a fanfare style with confetti (never expected In such style) and cream but it was GOOD. Jumping onto brunch, wife took Egg Benedict, it was yummilicious (I highjacked a bite) and per her, it was good. I took Mediterranean omelette which was definitely nice and my son went for roadhouse burger (per him it was not only good but huge too). I'm disappointed with tonight's meal. I had ordered the brunch burger, medium rare. The burger came cold. I cut the burger in half and the inside was completely raw, (Like the meat was sticky and pink) I sent it back. I got a new burger, I cut into it and it was.. raw again. The waitress, who was very nice, offered to bring me another burger. At this point, I didn't want to wait any longer to wait for a third burger and the person I was with ate his entire meal already. Came in just to try the wild shakes as a special dessert. Overall the ambiance of the diner is nice. Looks new and updated with a cozy looking fireplace. It's also very warm in there qhI have I love for a cold night especially when having milk shakes! After much debate I got the cannoli shake, my boyfriend got the cereal bowl as did his niece and his sister in law got the funfetti cake one. The cannoli one tasted like chocolate chip ice cream with a cannoli on the side. Honestly wasn't that good. The vanilla ice cream didn't even really have a strong vanilla taste. I tried the cereal bowl one as well and it tasted like fruity pebbles. The funfetti one was the most impressive looking of all of them but she said it was just ok as well. It's an experience to come get the shakes but I'd say it's more for the pictures than the actual taste unfortunately. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and were very glad we did. We had a burger on a gluten free roll with baked fries and a steak sandwich on garlic bread with homemade potato chips, both were perfectly cooked and delicious. Definitely a place we will go again. *This is a fantastic choice if you have gluten restrictions, there are a lot of options that you don't usually see in restaurants. Don't see how this diner is voted as the best? It is only ordinary. Clean place and good service experience today. Pretty pricey as lunch today was nearly $20 for a Gyro, soda and bread pudding. The soup that came with the entree, Lentil was very good and served hot in a big bowl. The leg of lamb gyro was served with fries and an amazing tasting tatziki sauce. It's hard to believe but four years have passed since our last visit to this diner. At the time of our last visit, we had poor service but good food. Stopped in today after our hike. Good service today, mediocre food. Corned beef hash and scrambled eggs, well done home fries and an english muffin for me. Buffalo wings and seasoned curly fries for the boy. The wings were not spicy and were very dry. Not enough sauce, too much time in the fryer. The curly fries were not seasoned. Just a big pile of shards from the bottom of the bag. My hash was ok. The potatoes were awful. A lukewarm pile of shredded potatoes without any color or taste. English muffin was tasty. Both cups of decaf turned grey when I added half and half. My son remarked, as we left, "I can't imagine returning." I'm with him. read more

This diner prices are out of control for the quality of the food. Let me explain, this was the 3rd and last time we use them for our food. 1 st time they forgot the brown gravy, which we paid for. 2nd time they forgot the tarter sauce for fish and chips and also no dressing on the Reuben sandwich. Both of which we asked for extra, didnt get any. This last attempt I went through the experience we had in the past and asked again for extra on the phone. We also ordered a small Chile with bread. Went through the litany of what types of bread they had, so we settled on dinner rolls. As well, we ordered a side of brown gravy. When we got home, to our utter dismay, no tarter sauce again, which we paid for, no dinner rolls, which we paid for. That order had 1 fish and chips, 2 Reuben sandwich and small chile. The Reuben sandwich was a soggy mess, as were the fries. They put the kraut side down and clearly didnt drain the kraut. Take a look at the receipt and see how much they charged for a small chile (9.45), and fish and chips! Its outrageous. This is a diner not a high class restaurant where you would expect the prices to be high. Never again. They failed big time with our orders even when we picked it up and specifically asked for the tarter sauce et al at the register. We were told everything was in the bag. When I called, they could only offer an apology, never telling me they would adjust the credit card. Now is $2.00 gonna kill me, no. Prices are ridiculous for less then average meals.$22 Cuban sandwich missing half the ingredients and had to be heated up when delivered. The is place needs to go up in flames again...Food has been HORRIBLE since they reopened and the prices for what you get are just obnoxious. Called to complain and they blamed door dash... wtf! Door dash now cooks your terrible food. I called the restaurant to order our food and had no idea it would be door dash delivering bc they always had their own delivery people. 1-1/2 hrs for delivery on a weds night is unacceptable. We supported this restaurant heavily through Covid but I don't see it surviving. I ordered a Cuban Panini tonight which turned out to be a cold ham sandwich. All food had to be reheated and to pay close to $100 for four meals (two were pancakes and waffles) is ridiculous. We were huge fans of Sparta Diner prior to their fire and were so excited when they re-opened...only to be let down by mediocre food and tiny portions. My favorite sandwich was a fraction of the size it used to be on a tiny cheap bun. I understand making portions a bit smaller to eliminate food waste, but this is drastic and really not worth the price. We tried breakfast another day to see if it was any better but I paid almost $40 for a really small plate of food that included some really crappy hash browns. Tried this place for a second time after having been disappointed here a couple of years ago. The hostess was a bit cold and indifferent to start things off. Our waitress was nice. I ordered the Cuban Benedict. It looked good on paper. In reality it came out cold or at best barely above room temp. I flagged down our waitress and ask to have my meal heated up. Out came a new plate with the explanation that the refrigerated salsa they used must have cooled down the dish and it was then included on the side. Unfortunately, the meal was still not hot, thickening the holandaise to a mushy gel in a very yucky fashion. The guacamole was the likely culprit. I don't understand why they couldn't have just heated the dish in it's entirety instead of just doing regular eggs benedict and then adding the guac and cold salsa. We also got a side order of bacon that was so well done there was a danger of breaking a tooth. Shame on us for giving them a second shot . There plenty of other great diners within a 10 mile radius Id suggest trying any one of those instead. $42 bucks for breakfast for two never felt so unfulfilling. read more

Haven't eaten here since they first ordered. We decided to pop in for some breakfast. The menu had multiple items to choose from and a nice variety of different meals. They offered a smaller brunch menu which was nice to narrow down your choices. The service was great, our waitress was very attentive and always checked in to make sure we didn't need anything. The food took a little long to come out (between 20-25 min) but once it did it was well worth it. We ordered two different styles of poached eggs and they came out very fresh. The portion size was large which was good because the menu items were a little pricey. Overall the experience was very good and we will definitely be stopping in again for their brunch menu! read more

Came here with my regular Saturday morning breakfast crew. We wanted something close as we had to be in the area today. Knew of this place and decided to try it. Everything was good, the service was excellent, the waiter very friendly and professional. It was a little pricier than others in the area but for what we received I think it was fair. They had some interesting dishes that were not offered elsewhere in the area. I am a sucker for grits and cheese and opted for that. It was a good sized portion and had a side of salsa. Our waiter made sure that we were plied with the copious amounts of coffee we desired. I would not hesitate to come back again.
