I've been here before and it was so so. This morning I stopped in for breakfast. Food was good, had the lumberjack, menu was too much reading to understand what to order. The waiter seemed like he was doing me a favor by working, completely inattentive. Was charged extra $2 for organic eggs, I asked about it at the register, he said he didn't charge for it. There were only 3 things on the receipt including the +$2 so clearly he didn't even look. The guy at the register gave me back $2, so that was good. This used to be a great spot when it first opened years ago. We stopped going in about a year. Tonight we decided to give it another shot! We should've stayed away lol. Our waitress approached our table mid conversation and asked for our drink order, I guess we didn't answer quick enough because she quickly repeated herself and it was very snarky, there was no Hi my name is ... can I take your drink order! It was downhill from there! She brought us our drinks, then we asked for a few more minutes to look over the menu. She came and we started to order, when it was time for me to order I said I'd like a cup of matzah ball soup, she then put her pad in her apron and started to pick up the menus! I looked at her and said I wasn't done she walked away! She then came back to ask a question about serving size of gluten pancakes my 10 year old niece ordered,apparently they are only made in adult serving.. as they don't offer them in child portion. My sister in law then asked her if she was going to ask me if I was done with my order since she hadn't before and she said I thought she was done... so I was at this point irritated and she walked away again! To end our night there my SIL went to pay and when the manager asked how everything was she said the service could've been better, to which he responded with ha. Unremarkable diner serves uninspired food leaving patrons unfulfilled. Generally speaking, it's difficult for a NJ diner to mess up breakfast. Some are of course more talented than others... the eggs were some of the worst I've experienced, the french toast bread was stale, the coffee was bad... there's not a whole lot I can say about Sparta Classic which is positive. If I would say anything, it is that the location is good - Sparta is a lovely area - and the diner is spacious. But the food is severely lacking, and I do not plan on returning. I frequent diners throughout the state often, and this is one that you can safely avoid. read more

Have been here several times and food has been average. Went again the other night and ordered the pulled chicken tacos. They must have used old chicken because it was as dry as a bone as if they had reheated it multiple times. Then ordered the carrot cake and it was terrible! It tasted dry and stale as if it were over a week old. Plus it cost me $6 and the slice wasnt very big!. Very disappointed! read more

Maybe it was't a good day for them, but my friends and I were extremely disappointed on what we were served. My friend saw photos from their instagram page and figured we should try them out. For a diner it was pretty quiet (to be fair it was a Monday evening and we're used to the usual packed Pompton Queen Diner 10/10). What we ordered was not the same as the photos. The Carb Loaded wrap my friends got was not fresh and dry, my Mac and Cheese squares were chewy and dry, and my friend's burger was also dry. All of us were dissatisfied with our food and how much we paid. The only good thing was that the staff and the place itself was nice. For this diner joint to be good they need to make sure their food looks like what they post on Instagram because it sure got me fooled into a scam. read more

Called in a delivery order at 5:50 on a Saturday evening. Was told it could be up to an hour - when it got to be an hour and 15 mins with no sign of our food and two hungry children complaining their tummies hurt, we called to check on the status of our delivery. The girl who answered the phone apologized and said that they were very backed up. While she was very pleasant, she asked for the address and put us on hold. When she came back on she stated another address. I said no and repeated the correct one - to which she replied, "oh sorry it slipped my mind, I knew it was one of the two.." it slipped her mind from 45 seconds ago!? She explained the food was on the road and would be there "momentarily". Another 15 minutes passed and as I was heating up food for the kids (since they were starving), our delivery man arrived. Long story short, we waited an hour and a half for soggy fries, dry chicken salad and the WORST most under-seasoned burger I've ever eaten in my life. read more

The Good: Service and cleanliness The Bad: The napa hamburger was pretty flavorless, when you find yourself enjoying the ketchup more that what it's going on, you know something is wrong. Fries were unimpressive, now a days you can get frozen French fries that taste better than these. Ketchup again was the only savior. And finally the Italian salad, the fresh lettuce was great but buried under massive unmanageable chunks of roasted red pepper, mozzarella rounds, and entire pepperoni slices. Simple rule of salads is the components should be able to fit in your mouth without cutting and slicing. Overall, don't waste your time and money here. read more

Be careful if you order anything gluten free on menu. My wife was very specific with waitress about needing gluten free food. Became deathly ill when she got home. Advice: Don't have a gluten free menu if you are not going to be careful about serving. It is not just a fad to people with celiac disease. I grew up in Sparta and I remember the old Sparta Diner as not being so memorable. I was recently "back home" visiting some family and friends and we all went out for breakfast Sunday morning before my dive back to the Philly area. I have to say I really enjoyed my breakfast. I really thought about the four stars, just because I only had one meal here and it was breakfast, but here's why I gave four. 1. The corned beef hash was real corned beef. It was shredded pieces of corned beef, not the food processed mush you sometimes find. 2. The eggs were a perfect over-easy, Nuff said. 3. The pancakes were light and fluffy and tasty. 4. The syrup was warm. Breakfast to me is a simple meal, but sometimes simple things are easy to mess up. A perfectly cooked egg is not as easy as some would think. Real shredded corned beef in the hash makes me want to go back for a Rueben. And fluffy pancakes and warm syrup is what every breakfast table needs. Memorable meal, maybe the friends and all our growing together memories too, but I would go back to the Classic Sparta Diner in a heartbeat. read more

Based on one experience.Nothing special here. Pretty high prices for a diner. Food doesn't reflect the bill at all. Burgers, fries, and short rib hit the ok to MAYBE even decent mark. However the: onion rings, calamari, marinara sauce, and mac n cheese, were totally gross. Like...there's a special spot in hell for the guy that made that marinara back in the kitchen. Stopped in here on a whim, . . . on my way elsewhere in the area to meet up with people, was early getting there and so stopped and had dinner. The Curb appeal is great, very attractive well lit place, that catches your eye from the road. It is a small diner, very well decorated, as I understand it is newly redecorated. Wait staff was very pleasant / friendly. Food was very fresh! My fiance and I both had soup and a sandwich, I had the Butternut Squash Soup which was delicious, and he had the New England Clam Chowder, which was also very good! Made from scratch, you could tell right away. Also had a Pastrami Sandwich which was excellent, and he had the Turkey Club which was slightly dry by his standards. I would definitely go back. It's nice to have a local diner in Sparta, we were without one for years so can't complain too much. However, the food and the service here is hit or miss. The dining room could be packed and you get a great meal and fast service, and dead the next and the food takes forever and the servers forget you're there. Also feel its a bit pricey. If it's during the week and i'm looking for a local pickup i'll go here, but if I have time on the weekends its worth the 15 min drive to Jefferson Diner. read more

The restaurant was very clean and nicely remodeled on the inside. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, as was the rest of the staff. My parents had breakfast, which they gave good remarks. I had the Chipotle Chicken Club with french fries, which was pretty good. The portions were definitely enough to fill you up. Not only were the portions sizable and satisfying for my large appetite but the food was near elegant without being pretentious. Have eaten here twice and enjoyed both meals immensely. The first time was breakfast - a tasty omelet with a short stack side. Garden fresh spices used in the omelet made it one of the tastiest I've had in a while. The real syrup served in individual dispensers was an unexpected treat - most diners give out artificial flavored syrup in the plastic pull-back packaging. This was an early Sunday morning breakfast and the diner got crowded very quickly - standing room only by 9. My more recent meal was a dinner - one of the best Chicken Pot Pies I've ever enjoyed. The salad starter was generous and crisp. Two minor disappointments - ordered chicken noodle soup (delicious) but fou nd some cartilage floating around in it. The carrot cake - a generous slab - was on the dry side. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive and I love the updated look. I do plan to eat here again. read more

Sparta Classic Diner is fantastic! Newly remodeled and clean. Everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious though my favorite is the LA turkey burger. Thy make their own burgers, not frozen patties. Soups and great too. Everything tastes fresh. The wait staff is attentive. The only time I've ever had an issue was on a Sunday, perhaps after a church rush? Seemed like they were short handed in the kitchen. The best day of my life was when I found out they deliver! It's a typical Ny/NJ diner setting but they have a bunch of items on the menu that are more current than greasy fried foods. Their burger list is great and the fries rock. So while travelling I saw a sign on the highway that Sparta Diner was ranked the best diner in NJ. That's some pretty big britches to fill. So I gave it a try. Very clean, friendly staff. I had steak and eggs. Bad choice. The steak was like the sole of a boot. And tasted like it too. Scrambled eggs were OK. I mean, they were scrambled eggs. WAY overpriced at $14. Was with my mom looking around for a new place to eat, we both deciding on the new Sparta diner. Knowing that it wasn't as great before (as so we heard). We decided to take a look... WOW! It was amazing. First off, it was my first time ever being in a brand new restaurant. The silverware basically came right out of the box, the staff were really nice and of course, the food was great! I had mozzarella sticks and some chicken fingers. Let me just say that I brought it home! I thought it was going to be a little portion; I was only there for a little snack to hold me over for a couple hours. Well I was surely mistaken. Two plates with huge portions. One star is a overstatement of how bad this place was to us. The waitress we were given was incredibly rude to us as we asked questions about our meals. She also was messing up our meals and it wasn't her first day on the job. The biggest thing is that our bill was 200 dollars and it was 5 chicken fingers with fries and a cheese burger. We also had 6 milkshakes and yes their milkshakes are pricey. But after we finished eating we asked them to add the tip into our bill and they said that it was included, after we payed what showed which should of HAD THE TIP IN IT we had to pay more. The manager came and had us pay 26 more dollars cause it was "supposedly" the tip that apparently wasn't added into the bill. The way I see it if a diner is decent it needs to at least do well with breakfast and lunch items. You can throw away the dinner entrees since they seem to never get them right anyway. As far as this place.... Well don't let the new digs fool you. They don't even get breakfast or lunch done well. I ordered one of their hamburger entrees; ordered medium rare and was served ye old hockey puck woefully overcooked and under seasoned served up with forgettable French fries. My wife had ordered a Greek omelet and was very non plussed with it's flavor. On the plus side it has a pleasant atmosphere with plenty of natural light and very clean appearance. First the good. The food. I took a client out to lunch, we both ordered Mexican Salads. They weren't your typical "Taco Salad" with the greasy taco meat. The salads were made with light ingredients, an avacado vinaigrette, fulfilling and very tasty. Each salad came with a bowl of soup. I had the New England Clam and it was excellent. If I could rate the food alone....5 stars. The place was clean and recently upgraded/remodeled. Nice atmosphere. The service was adequate. I was greeted promptly, pre-meal drinks served and orders taken in timely manner and food came out in a good amount of time for a business meeting. Now my complaint, which actually made the experience a bit unpleasant for both myself and my client. The waitress was not friendly AT ALL (tall older lady). When she took our drink orders she didn't say "OK" or "got it" or "coming right up" just looked away with a "HMMPH" and scowl....strange. It was like this the whole time. When she brought my client's latte, she set it down hard without looking and it spilled literally filling up the saucer without her even realizing it as she walked away. So, my client is trying to drink this latte, which she said tasted great, and it's dripping every where. I ask the busser to bring a towel or napkins, and he did, while wiping it up he was eating food while chewing with his mouth open. I was really taken aback, I actually saw the food in his mouth....gross. Then at the end of the meal I'm going to pay at the cashier, the same waitress said she could ring it up...all of a sudden she's soooo nice come tip time. Not a fan of phoniness.
