Buyer beware here. After my experience, I can't recommend them. They weren't cheap either, so this wasn't a "get what you pay for." For starters, they didn't bring the right size truck, resulting in me having to go back, on my own, to get things. I stayed in the area, but what if this was an out-of-the area move? That's major no bueno. They were hired to move my stuff, plain and simple, and they failed. And upon leaving, I pointed out a couple items, heirloom antiques, that hadn't been put on the truck. One was an outdoor table/chair combo right next to the front door! Yea like I'm leaving that. The other they didn't have room for, so my real estate agent came and got it for me. The foreman blamed me for not pointing it out in the first place, because it was behind the front door! A good crew would have done a once-over before leaving, because moving is stressful and you don't always catch everything. I had to put the majority of my stuff in storage, so it admittedly wasn't a simple move. Hence two stars instead of one. I also believe Spartan Moving damaged a table lamp but didn't tell me. How do you withhold information like that? I won't know for sure until I get the stuff out of storage but I'm pretty confident it came from that lamp. The room only had a few items in it. I hate leaving bad reviews but here I am. There were 3 things that went wrong in this move and that's too much to overlook. 1.) Felix told me 3-4 movers would be there on move day. Only two men showed up. What would have taken 3-4 hours took much longer as a result. Not okay. Don't show up with 1/2 to 2/3ds of the crew you quote people for. 2.) the company moved our stuff into storage. When they got to the storage unit they piled all the boxes in completely haphazardly with no thought as to providing a path to access the boxes. They were just crammed in. 3.) now that we have moved stuff from storage into our house, we found that Spartan rolled up one of our rugs and folded it in half - completely ruining the rug. We had a terrific moving experience with Moises, Jose, and Camilo who helped us move from a 3rd floor 3BR to a 6th floor 2BR within San Francisco. Specifically, they were champs who went above and beyond, as our building's elevator was broken the day of our move - and they still moved everything within 7.5 hours. Not a single dish, cup, or screen was broken - they were flexible, customer service oriented, and cheerful through the process. They also broke down and re-built a king size bed, computer desk, and entertainment center for us. My only advice for the team is to double check the moving rate listed on the contract slip (ours was off by $10/hr but was fixed expeditiously) and to provide a more detailed invoice with the moving supplies (we received a flat amount - wasn't line itemized.) I went through a very lengthy process on my damage claim (which I had reviewed previously) and after the company lied to me about what was covered -- when the damage happened, they said an insurance company "would take care of it" only to find out (which by the way took forever to get in touch with the company) that they do not cover damage that's created inside the home. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HOUSE. After significant back and forth, Spartan Moving company would give me a $350 reimbursement when my damages were in the thousands. I was shocked about them 1) first lying about what was covered 2) playing bait and switch with me about talking to the insurance company 3) finally saying the insurance company "would" cover my damages, but only offering $350. We moved back in August 2019 and used Spartan Movers. They were the only moving company that told us they could pack and move us in one day. Every other company told me it'd take 2 days - 1 for packing and 1 for moving. So those two day movers quotes came out to 16-17 hours and spartan said they could do everything in 11-12 hours in one day. Now I was really skeptical because they were the only ones that quoted us one day but I had no intention of packing for this move at 28 weeks pregnant. So we took a chance... And the day of, they showed up right at 9 am like they said they would. They actually finished the entire move - packing, driving 45 minutes down to SJ to the new place, and unloading in 8 hours. 8 HOURS!!! They did a phenomenal job packing. Not a single one of my kitchen items was broken. They actually skipped lunch so they could finish up early and all 4 of them worked so hard for us. Moises, Juan, and Jose showed up on time, were respectful, and moved everything with care. They were not slow, but they were not moving with urgency either. I'm not sure if this is common practice, but I was a little taken aback that they took their time folding, cleaning up, and organizing their moving materials before they even unloaded all of my boxes. At some points, I was literally standing there watching them pack up. Also, one of the three movers took on a more "supervisory" role and did minimal work, so it was more like having 2.5 movers. Overall, my experience was decent. But they really should've finished unloading my boxes and furniture before they started packing up and organizing their truck. read more

I've now used Spartan Moving Company twice in the past year and they offer top notch moving services! They helped me move a one bedroom apartment to a storage unit and then 10 months later move everything from the storage unit back into another one bedroom apartment. Getting in touch with them both times was super easy -- they answer the phone right away and are super helpful. I was able to "hire" them within 5 minutes and received follow-up email communication right away. The day before the move, I got an email reminder and the movers showed up on time the day of the move. Thy brought three super helpful and very nice men to help me with all my stuff. All of the guys were so friendly and I trusted them with all of my furniture. They handled everything with care and made sure it was all properly wrapped before transporting it. Once the move was complete, payment was quick and easy (they accept credit cards). A+ experience! Moved from SF to Southern CA. Both pick up and drop off teams observed covid safety measures and were quick and efficient. We had two drop off locations, one in LA and one in Palm Springs. Everything arrived within 24hrs to the right (and both) locations as well as undamaged. The load in was quite chaotic. I would have preferred a little pre-visit to advise us better as how to prepare for the big day. The 4 men were under considerable stress on a Sunday and everything went rather rushed - we still have not found some items. I do NOT blame the employees at all for any of this. The load out was from a large van with a tractor rig pulling it whereas the load in was into a Budget truck which they later said had "broken down" somewhere on I-5 I guess. Umberto and Moises (the guys who led each of our recent moves) are absolutely fantastic! Worth every penny. As were the other movers...Eric, Alex, I don't remember the other guys names, but they were all great. So nice, so friendly, so hard working - and, in both moves, they finished way faster than we would have guessed. The office was efficient and not overly-solicitous. I don't get the impression that they are going to hold your hand, but they definitely get stuff done (and other comments said that they were constant contact, so maybe we just didn't need it). They even gave us a discount because we had used them in the past. I do wish they had told us that the second move would have a minimum number of hours. In all fairness, we forgot to ask and they did tell us about the minimum in our first move this week, but it would have been nice to be prepared for the price tag before we got the bill. It was just a bed, and only took ninety minutes (we paid for 3 hours), but they hoisted it over our balcony and, truly, I was so impressed with how creative they were in getting it up there and how hard they worked...I hope at least some of the extra money goes to the guys who actually moved us. We've now used them for three moves over five years - hopefully we're done moving for a while - and I would absolutely recommend Spartan Movers to anyone who needs to move in the Bay Area. read more

They fit me in the schedule on short notice. Ensured we went over all COVID safety requirements. We had a long distance move and I think they did well. They showed up on time and in masks. They also packed up some fragile stuff and a few things we had forgotten. Getting our stuff... well... covid happened. I'm knocking a star off for getting our stuff, though I totally understand covid is throwing a wrench in everyone's plans and business. They came and got our stuff in November. Our house was delayed from the first week of December to the second week so I had to tell them to push back our delivery. Long story short, our stuff didn't arrive until January. Not sure if the week I asked them to push back our delivery is the reason why. ANYWAYS. I totally get that times are not normal now so I won't fault them for that. It would have been nice if they kept us updated more though. I had to call and ask when they anticipate delivering our stuff for them to tell me they're behind and then we got notice maybe two days before they were gonna deliver. BUT, I like that the same person who picked up our stuff in Sunnyvale is the person who delivered to us in SoCal! Even though I knocked a star off, I would totally recommend and use again. read more

First time paying a moving company to move our 3 bed/3 bath home. We had a lot of stuff and the team did a fantastic job. They provided notification/reminder a week and a day before the move. They called me at 8:30am to notify when they were arriving and they were there 15 minutes early. When they arrived, they assessed the rooms, the furniture and the amount of boxes we had to move. They had a strategy and the guys went to work immediately. They taped all the furniture with covers and made sure it was all protected. Due to some circumstances, I had to schedule a same-day moving and contacted a few moving companies. Ashish (the manager) was very accommodating and caring. He knew how stressful my situation was and tried his best to schedule something for me although it was short notice. The crew arrived a little sooner than expected and had to wait a few minutes before I get home but they did not charge me for extra wait time. Pablo and the team were very professional and very well knew their job. They disassembled a big IKEA loft bed in less than an hour. Something that took me a day or two to assemble. The team were efficient and used the time to do their job and did not waste it (as it is common with movers). Movers during pickup were great. They were fast, professional, and wrapped things well. The company transfers the stuff from the truck to a warehouse, then packs up 10+ moves into a semi. Total to move from a one bed apartment to another was around $750. It is about a 27 mile distance between the apartments and they charge for the time they drive x 2 on top of their "flat rate fee". Last year I moved and it was only $550. This move was wayyy too expensive. There were so many things wrong with the move too. One of their guys flipped a box over and oil spilled everywhere and they didn't offer to clean it up. I specifically told them to bring my trash can and they didn't. They actually forgot to load SEVERAL things and I had to go back to get them. The crew of 4 took longer than the crew of 2 that I had last year with a different moving company. Wonderful service and great value! The movers arrived about 5 minutes earlier than expected. The 3 gentlemen came in, assessed and explained the process. We went over the contractual part first and then discussed which items would be would be wrapped in cardboard and which items would be wrapped with blankets. They made sure to keep me involved in the process and asked questions to ensure if everything was to my liking every step of the way. They did a phenomenal job! I have a immensely heavy upright piano and they treated it with lots of care. Additionally, the movers brought to my attention any existing defects or scuffs on all of the furniture prior to wrapping them to ensure there would be no confusion later on. I appreciated that. They even disassembled furniture and reassembled it all within just a few hours. They wrapped and moved everything very quickly and wasted no time. These sort of jobs are very difficult and put such a strain on your body and to see the movers lift such large and heavy items with a smile is not easy. I chose Spartan because they had the best value when compared to their competitors. I had been shopping around for a while and decided they were the best for the price, but if or when I decide to use their service again, it'll be for their service. I highly recommend. read more

We have a bit of a whirlwind moving experience back in December. Saw a listing go up on Craiglists on Tuesday, got approved by Thursday, had to move in by Sunday. We were about to head out of town for the holidays as well, and were STRESSED about how to pack up our whole life and move. I called around that Thursday once we knew the apartment was officially ours and approved, and understandably a lot of the local moving companies were booked. I won't lie, we ended up going with Spartan entirely because they were the only ones with an opening that Sunday to move us. I'm so glad they were able to do it! I spoke to Marvin on the phone to get the appointment all set up. We were moving from a studio in the Tenderloin over to a one bedroom across town a bit. They handled the move with speed and ease. As soon as the truck and three helpers arrived, they were wrapping up furniture and dissembling our bed like it totally didn't take us two and a half hours to put together in the first place. We had boxed a bunch of stuff up on our own, but they offered boxes that we could hang coats and dresses in, and had a box just for our TV. They were lightning fast, but very careful with all of our things, and triple checked with us on what was okay to pack and what we could handle in just our car. From there, we headed to the new apartment and then unloaded just as quickly. They put the bed back together quickly, unloaded all the boxes, and all said and done, the entire process from start to finish only took about two-ish hours to complete. The price is very affordable! They did both moving in 4 hours and the price we paid was very fair. The most important thing is that they are very careful with furniture. Get the cash rate which saves 5%, the only problem I suppose I could have had is they might have forgotten to advertise their discount. But your move is not something you should chintz on. This industry is shady and sketchy. These guys took a haphazardly mostly-packed giant pile of bins, boxes, furniture and stuff one has after 5 years of living with pets in San Francisco, rugs and all, and on short notice, got it all up a hill and crossed a courtyard and tracks with two flights of stairs to get it all where it needed to be. And then when I wasn't sure I was being charged right and to my own err felt like I was being cheated because I couldn't do math, Humberto on top of everything else made sure I understood what I paid with patience and grace. I booked Spartan after doing a review of a lot of companies in the area. I ended up choosing them because they had such great reviews on Yelp, they offered the lowest rate, and their rate included 3 movers (all others at comparable rates only included 2). They checked in a few times prior to the move and were transparent with their pricing. On the day of the move, they arrived on time (beginning of the arrival window) and got to work very quickly. Nothing was damaged during the move, and they had no trouble disassembling my furniture and reassembling it at the new place. In the end, I'm pretty sure they ended up charging me for fewer hours than they actually used. I ended up paying for only the 3 hour minimum even though I think the move may have been closer to 4 hours. Everything was boxed and wrapped carefully. Spartan Movers had all the supplies and tools ready. I didn't need to call beforehand to order a certain amount of items, they were already well prepared for whatever was in my house. I moved into the 6th floor of an apartment building, I thought they would be turned off by the amount of stairs they needed to climb with our stuff but they were so sweet and more giggling about how there are a lot of stairs. Super nice men :) I appreciated all of their hard work! PRICE: it was 165/hour for a large moving truck and three men to help which is cheaper than most moving companies around San Francisco (I called around). I am writing this after an extremely frustrating communication process with them after picking up my belongings from a storage facility. I have tried to get answers to very simple questions all week about some damage to items (they didn't cause it but I simply want to know which item is which in the pictures) - it has been 6 days without answer. Felix yells at me on the phone and the foreman has a voicemail that makes it seem like he can't hear you. Additionally they put a bogus $400 packing material charge on there for a move that had already been entirely packaged and material paid for. Again just looking for some communication sometime over the last 5 days to clear this up. Supposedly the owner is in Turkey but that's not my fault. Please please Spartan communicate better. I now fear I'll waste another day trying to find out when my items will be delivered, but first I just need answers about the pickup that was now almost a week ago! Beyond frustrating. read more

Moved back in August. Scheduling was simple, confirmation before were great. Movers were to be there between 9 am and 11 am. Get a missed call at 7:30 am, call back at 7:45 am and I'm told they'll be there at 8 am. We had most of the house packed and were finishing the last 10-15% so showing up an hour early was quite annoying. I tried to ask them to wait and was told that we had lots of stuff and they wanted to get started. After going back and forth, I conceded and asked them to start in the packed garage. They proceeded to grab things from my living room, some of which I had yet to mark. This sparked my stress and anxiety. Had they showed up at 9 am like they were supposed to, those boxes would have been marked. Thankfully I had a friend there and she kicked them out of my house to the garage. Moving a 3 bedroom 2 car garage home with lots of stuff. The truck was not big enough to do it all in one move so we were forced to make 2 trips. I don't think I should have had to pay double time when they literally went back and forth once and the whole point of double time is to pay for them to get back to where they came from. However that's a moot point now. Anyway, the 3 guys did work hard and took quick breaks. No complaints on there overall performance other than the beginning issues. 8 hours later our house was moved with and extra hour charge for travel. Houses are 6.6 miles apart. Pros- We weren't broken and were able to function to unpack. Guys did good work. Cons - Showing up early isn't appreciated. Would have rather paid for an extra guy versus 9 hrs for only 3 guys. read more
