Yelp reviewers, I ask you to sort from the lowest rated review and please read how defensive and unprofessional the owner is.. that will assist in your final decision of hiring this company. I contacted this company through Yelp, Tina the owner was super fast in responding, and we set on our date, arrival time, rate, and a cash only payment. I mentioned that we only had a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment, and that we were only moving across the street. The day of the move arrived, and the movers came 20 minutes earlier then planned, not a problem. Two movers, a huge truck and not a lick of English. Super hard to communicate from the get, but they started to move fast, which was great. I started to notice a pattern, one mover moved things outside of the apartment, while the other road down the elevator and loaded the truck. Seemed to be a good method, however the person loading the elevator was only taking a couple of items down, which is essentially wasting time. Turned my nose, and thought to myself, they're professionals they're doing their job. 4 hours pass, and they're still loading the truck with items from my, I repeat, 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT! In between the loading and unloading, I headed off to work while my husband stayed behind. Unloading begins and my husband calls me, the movers are only coming up twice/hour and only bringing up a couple of items at a time. Again, essentially wasting time. I text Tina (the owner) to have her call me to discuss what my husband was experiencing. She calls back, and I voice my concerns, and tells me that there are other residents moving in that's causing a hold up. I also voice to her that there are multiple elevators that her workers can use, and her response was that my husband should have told them that. Hard to communicate that to people who don't speak English. What could have been a 3 hours move ended up being a 7 HOUR MOVE. Keep in mind, my apartment was only 2 bedrooms, and literally moving across the street. From then on, things got pretty odd. Tina would NOT STOP texting and calling me, and started to get extremely defensive, screaming, then text me with an apology. It was the weirdest thing, and I even had to ask her to stop texting and calling me at one point because I was at work. She even threatened me, she said that if it's taking so long, she'd leave all of my belongings on the side walk, and then demanded a credit card payment. I re-iterated that our Yelp conversation was set on a cash payment only. I come home from work, tired from moving and working a full day to find what was left of our belongings on the side walk (picture attached). I asked the movers if they'd continue, they wouldn't respond (maybe they didn't understand me) but motioned a phone to their ear to call Tina. Exhausted at this point, I started moving our own items and paid them for only 4 hours of work in cash. It also dawned on me, Tina was asking for a credit card payment so she can leave all of our belongings outside so her movers can leave. How unprofessional, conniving, and crazy for a business to do such a thing. Moving in itself is a stressful job, and if you want to be "Burden Free" I highly suggest to go with a more reputable company. I am extremely disappointed in their service. I had reservation for movers to arrive between noon and 2pm. On the form I indicated that stuff needs to be dropped at storage closing at 6pm and is more then 30 minutes away without traffic. At 3pm movers still didn't show up. I spent hours on the phone trying to get them to arrive but was told that the earliest they can be is at 4pm which doesn't leave enough time for trip to storage by closing time. Very unreliable service. I would never book afternoon appointment with them if I knew they let morning appointments take over time slots of afternoon appointments. Horrible service! read more

Move from my Studio to a One Bedroom yesterday and was so happy to find help. I send mass messages to multiple moving company about a week and a half before my move and they were one of the first to reply. The prices are comparable to other places and definitely felt it was a fair price. Although they arrive a few minutes late I didnt mind since they had a huge truck so navigating must have been difficult. Two movers, although not proficient in English, we use simple phrases to give instructions and they understood us just fine. Move was quick and efficient. I move out of a building with an elevator but the new place had stairs but I was so impress they could move large amount of items up so fast and efficient. Move out took 1hr30 minutes since they had to wrap things up but move in was about 40min. Amaze that they were able to park a huge truck in the tiny driveway right off of the busy main street. Definitely couldnt have move so fast if it wasn't for the help of these professional! I read a few negative reviews but I didn't experience anything like what those yelper had describe. She was more than accommodating when we had to change our dates of moving a couple times . Our movers Jason and Ho were exceptional . Super quick and efficient . I used Burden Free to move my stuff from a storage unit to our apartment. They arrived 15 mins early to the pickup spot, which was impressive! Two people came in a big 26 foot truck. While trying to drop their loading ramp, the safety chain got stuck inside the hydraulic channel. They took 15 mins to fix that. Not a big deal, but it didn't leave a five star first impression on me. Other than that, these guys were very fast and professional. They loaded my stuff in their truck in 15 mins flat! Even during unloading, they were very careful. The only other negative I can think of is that none of them spoke any English. However, the icing on the cake was their pricing, which was very competitive! I'd definitely hire them again in a heartbeat. read more

This was the first time I've hired movers to help with a move and I would 100% use them again. I know it's hard committing to an hourly rate when you don't know how long the job will take, but I have to say, these guys were worth every penny. The movers were super professional, hard working, and careful with all of our items. They were mindful of walls and wrapped items to protect them without any mention on my part. At no point over a 7 hour move did I think "what are they doing" or "I could do better/faster". They were so good I actually had them move more out of my storage unit than I had originally mentioned. That was probably bad form on my part, as the three guys probably didn't sign up for as long as a day as it ended up being, but I am so thankful for their help. amazing crew. very professional. no damage. i've moved every year for the past 5 years and had different movers. by far, jason and his crew were the best mover experience i've had. they were not only professional in plastic wrapping all the furniture. they did no damage to any furniture. never dropped any items. never complained. super time efficient as well. we had quite the job for them. we lived on the third floor of an apt and was moving to a second floor apt which had 3 stories. both apartments did not have elevators. we felt extremely bad ... but jason and his man never complained and were not reckless just because they were tired. they did the whole job in 5 hours without taking any breaks. we truly want to thank them and would highly recommend hiring this team. please also take the time to tip them generously!! they work so hard, sweating their hearts out. I had never heard of them but sent out a note for multiple bids and they got back to me first and with the most enthusiasm. Tina was great, and scheduled a small move for the very next morning with no phone calls or any time-consuming back and forth. The movers were on time and got the job done with no help from me (I was out of town and they were moving from an empty house to my mom's retirement home, which they were able to navigate successfully) and placed her furniture exactly where she wanted it, reassembled and all. I originally hired them for 2 hours on 10/1/19, they took their sweet time and I had to pay them for an extra hour. I paid cash, plus $15 tip for both of them On top of that, they did not unwrap anything and didn't finish my whole place. Here are the specific items that they took 3 hours on: -2 bookshelves -1 small bed frame - 1 couch that pulls apart -1 full-size bed -1 malm dresser -1 small entertainment center -2 plastic shelves - air conditioner -8 boxes After their help, I still had to move items myself for another 7 hours more. Reasoning the comment under Donnah A's, I was there while the move was in progress. Hire other movers, even if it's $50 more, it'll be worth it because they won't walk with your money. They'll get it done quick. Both workers were able to carry one item of furniture BY THEMSELVES, they did not use two people per furniture so the items are not as heavy as the owners are describing. Even the couch used just one person! Second, the distance of the truck they parked as close as possible which isn't a whole lot of walking. My dresser was scratched, and while you quote that taking care of items is first priority, it didn't seem that way. I did not want to hire them longer because who knows how many weeks they'll be moving my items!!! When I moved into my 3rd floor apartment, I did not hire any movers for my items. 3 people were able to finish ALL items within 7 hours, while the two workers did only half my apartment. Definitely not a good time efficient company, and desperate. I should have known when they tried changing my moving times. Never go for cheap companies! read more

Updating a review since I realized I forgot to. Moved again with Burden Free Moving last October, but this time the mover's were far slower than last time. My prior move had been 4 hours despite moving from two separate source locations. The subsequent move one year later from one source location and no additional furniture somehow took more than 6 hours. I have to knock off one star since that means the experience isn't very consistent, and is highly dependent on which movers you get. read more

I yelped a few companies to get a quote to move 2 recliner couches from one house to another. Burden Free Moving was the fastest to respond, had the best value and same day availability. Tina was very helpful with providing a quote over the phone and coordinating the pickup. Our job only took 2 movers and they took very good care of our couches and covered them with a seran wrap type of cover to protect the leather. We had taken the couches apart ahead of time for easy transport. The guys were fast, efficient and kind enough to assemble the couches back for us and connect all the wires. I've always been leery of moving companies, this was my first time using one. Tina was great, I have been texting her over the weekend because I was out of state and wasn't sure on my exact arrival time. Of course my flight was delayed, but she was very understanding and made the necessary arrangements to have the movers begin a bit later. The movers Eason and Mike were awesome. They were amazing movers! They were professional, careful with my things and super efficient. I actually trusted them to move my huge plants and they survived! I'm super protective of my plants so this impressed me. We also have a piece of vintage furniture that could break at any moment that they handled with ease. The only criticism I have is they arrived later than I thought they would be, but to be fair they told me they had an earlier job. Just set your expectations properly and allow for at least 2 hours behind. Plus I wish they had more wardrobe boxes. They are still 5 stars in my book! read more

The 3 movers came at an unbeatable $85 per hour and very professional. They helped us pack. They had very good quality plastic and blankets to cover all important furniture. When we arrived at the destination they were very careful not to damage anything. Being a brand new home this was extremely important. I decided to go with Burden Free to move some furniture today and I am so glad that I did. They were on time, treated my furniture with care, wrapping each item with a blanket and stretch wrap, they had all of the equipment you would expect including a big truck. They worked fast but didn't cut corners with safety or care of my furniture. They had a 2 hour minimum which was the lowest I have found and their prices are very competitive. I would recommend them to anyone. I read a few complaints on Yelp regarding their fluency of English, but of course this wasn't a problem at all. They understood very clearly when I said things like "over there..." or "right over here...". It's moving furniture, how complicated is that going to be? WATCH OUT! Tina and her movers are unreliable and dishonest. They also did not follow COVID protocols and weren't wearing gloves as the listing says they would be. I'm sure she will respond with a facile explanation explanation for this. So what happened? Tina had given me some story about why she rescheduled me. Later, her truck driver inadvertently revealed the real reason for the delay. He then heard me share this information with Tina, who I was on the phone with. He left shortly after. He just took off and left me standing there with a house full of boxes and furniture! Tina said he was "scared." You guys, I'm a scrawny 40 year old transactional lawyer with a bad back, so I assume he means he was embarrassed about the lie, not scared of me personally. (Maybe they were mad about Tina scheduling them to work through lunch, and the unanticipated complications around the logistics and just decided they didn't want to do the job anymore? ) Maybe he assumed he wouldn't receive a tip because off all the logistics screw-ups, which was an incorrect and unfair assumption. I still intended to tip him because that's obviously the right thing to do. Given the discrimination I've experienced in the past, I wonder whether it was just outright racism, since they rolled out the "scary black man" cliche. Or maybe he assumed he wouldn't get tipped because I'm black? I don't know what it was, but the explanations didn't withstand even the slightest scrutiny, and left me feeling suspicious, degraded, and, worst of all, completely out of options. In any event, I was left stranded on my moving day by this company. It was one of the most unprofessional and upsetting experiences I've ever had. THIS is what racism looks like in America in 2020. If a white person gets upset when they are lied to or misled by a company, they'll often get an apology and better service. When a black person does the same thing, we often get characterized as a threat. I was upset by their dishonest behavior, and yes I was upset, but I was civil the entire time, and particularly friendly with the driver, who I told multiples times "I know this isn't your fault." I'm really saddened by their decision to justify it with a smear about me and my character. It looks like Tina has had some negative interactions with other customers but not one of them was left stranded on moving day with a demeaning allegation of being so "scary" they couldn't perform the move. We paid the full sum and did not dispute the charge because we were feeling generous but were charged $2,300 for a move that should've cost $1,500. They sent 3 elderly chain smoking men who couldn't stack more than 2 boxes on a dolly. I would not recommend if you have a move that requires heavy lifting or large items. When I did raise the issues I saw on the day of the move, they responded that they were trying to be extra careful etc. Not true. Boxes that were marked fragile were often stacked on the bottom of stacks. Their inability to speak English contributed to a large portion of the delays. read more

WOW, what an amazing company, Burden Free Moving is. We were looking for a moving company at the last minute and the owner (Tina) was extremely accommodating. Our three-bedroom high-rise in San Francisco needed to be packed and moved to our new home in Oakland. Her crew arrived on time with smiles. I learned quickly that my Google Translate app would come in handy to communicate with her team in Mandarin. This created a few laughs and smiles as they hauled our stuff from the 12th floor. Tina was able to work with my HOA to get all needed documents and all I had to do was reserve the elevator. Where is the "That was Easy" button! The crew listened to my direction as we have a few one of kind pieces that needed proper wrapping. When they arrived at our new home, it was a seamless process. I walked the house with the crew and let them know where everything needed to be placed. From there it was a matter of unwrapping...unwrapping partaaaay!!! Thank you, Burden Free Moving! Unfortunately due to the virus, my new apartment pushed back my move date until 5/9. I notified the movers 3 days in advance and the lady that I spoke to literally said "Oh my god! We canceled other reservations and keep movers for you!" Ummmm lady, not sure if you realized that we are literally experiencing a pandemic and on lockdown.
