There are a surfeit of bicycle shops here in Costa Mesa. A lot of them are similar but not in a good way. Specialized Bicycles is unlike those mediocre shops -- it's awesome! In most bike shops, being a casual female rider apparently means you should be 1) not acknowledged or served in a timely fashion; 2) treated like you're stupid and shouldn't be there without a man accompanying you; 3) you clearly need to be told what to buy without having any say in the matter. I've seriously dealt with enough bike bros to last a lifetime so I was really happy to not encounter anything remotely like this at this Specialized store. The sales people here are great and treat everyone equally with respect. Every employee I encountered was super cool, friendly, and genuinely interested in answering my questions. What a concept! Another impressive thing about this store is that half of it is dedicated to women's gear -- bikes, helmets, accessories, clothing, etc. It's well laid out, too. The shop carries Specialized gear almost exclusively so you'll be paying a bit more but getting good quality merchandise. Thanks for making us ladies feel welcome in your store, Specialized! I walked in looking for a bike to upgrade to. I've only owned a couple cruisers and a bmx so I had a bunch of questions. Frustrating Experience with Specialized Store in Costa Mesa - Unresolved Brake Issues on $9000 Road Bike I recently purchased my dream road bike, a high-end model from Specialized, at the Specialized store in Costa Mesa, California. Little did I know that what should have been a thrilling experience turned into a nightmare due to persistent and unresolved issues with the front disc brake. Right from the beginning, the front disc brake exhibited a vibration-induced noise that not only was loud and disturbing but eventually led to brake failure, destroying both the rotor and brake pads. Despite my attempts to address the problem, including changing the brake pads and rotor myself, the issue persisted. When I sought assistance from the Specialized Store, I was met with blame for contamination, even though they agreed to change the brake pads initially. The problem persisted, and after changing the rotor, the noise still haunted my rides. The store's customer service initially displayed willingness to help but later outright refused, claiming the noise would eventually disappear. The frustration peaked when the rotor and brake pads were completely destroyed due to continued riding with the unresolved issue. I turned to Specialized rider care support, hoping for a resolution. With their assistance, a claim was filed with the store to replace the destroyed components and even the fork, considering potential facing issues. Upon picking up the bike, the noise was still present, and the mechanic admitted hearing it too. Weeks went by with the bike still in the store's possession, and multiple components were replaced, including a claim with Shimano for the caliper. However, the noise persisted, and communication from the store ceased. No one was willing to discuss the matter, and every attempt to reach out was met with silence. My frustration reached its peak when Specialized rider care, after promising to investigate the matter with the mechanic directly, also stopped responding to my emails. I find it utterly disappointing that after spending $9000 on a high-end road bike, I am left alone with a malfunctioning brake and no resolution in sight. The attitude of the Specialized Store in Costa Mesa was consistently dismissive and blamed me for the persistent issue, which is not the customer service one expects when making such a significant investment. If I were buying a new car and encountered a malfunctioning brake, I would undoubtedly expect a prompt and effective resolution. Unfortunately, in the case of my Specialized road bike, the problem remains unresolved, and I am left wondering what to do next. My advice to potential buyers: beware of the after-sales service and customer support from the Specialized Store in Costa Mesa. ----------------- Update: As a last and final arrangement, the shop wanted to swap the wheel. This unfortunately also didn't fix the issue and then finally, the Store Manager agreed on helping me and getting me a new bike under warranty from Specialized. This situation cost me so much time, energy and also gas for driving there all the time and I'm happy with this solution now. The new bike's front brake is behaving different and there is no abnormal vibration noise there. One downside again though was that the rear derailleur was completely loose. Even though they did not want me to get the bike directly and wanted to build it up by themselves. Those bikes come pre-assembled to an extend, all the shop had to do in this chain of actions is to make sure the bike is save and sound. With the second bike this still did not happen to a 100% satisfaction for me as a customer. I do expect more here and to all riders out there that read this: please double check your bikes for safety. read more

This is the first Specialized retail bike store and from the looks of it Specialized aims to offer a best in class retail shopping experience for those looking to upgrade their bike or buy an entirely new ride. It was pretty amazing to see all the new kits and bike parts that Specialized has in this store, some you have seen and some you have not, it's enough to make your mouth water. You name it they got it, full bike servicing, new road and mountain bikes, tires that other stores don't carry, a drink bar and even an espresso machine in case you need a pick-me-up. The Specialized crew in Costa Mesa store hosts a Sunday donut ride at the beginning of each month, about 50 riders showed up to the first ride which looked like a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the fact that the crew in the store was not snobby at all, just a bunch of cool cats who like bikes and like to ride. In the past I've run into problems with some of the local Specialized dealers (mostly Rock N' Road Foothill Ranch) and I never thought they really represented the Specialized brand well with their elitist attitudes and general bike snobbery. It was nice to see a bike store that was generally helpful and offered a unique experience without the attitude. All bikes come with a free fitting on a very exact digital fit bike, this was one of the coolest parts about the retail experience because you can buy a bike, get fitted with your kit, and ride out knowing that you were setup with the best fit possible on some of the best bike fit equipment around. To me this was a great value that many bike stores cannot match. read more

Every single person working that day I came in contact with was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Ordered a specialized bike five months ago that has not arrived and no information on the bike is available from the local bike shop or specialized. The customer care specialist are very nice as they keep repeating "that is not customer facing." What this means is managers and sales people who have the answers, like where is the bike you ordered five months ago, will not talk to clients. Bottom line, if you order a specialized bike you are clearly smart enough to recognize the quality of their product but dumb enough not to recognize that they have no regard for their customers. Dropped in 15 minutes before close looking for a bike for my kid. They took the time to fit him for a bike and to make adjustments to a floor model for him. At closing time I asked to buy the bike, but in a different color that they didn't have assembled. I asked if I should pick it up the following day, but they stayed late to build it. Knowledgeable staff and good bike selection but ruthless about not warrantying bicycles that are under warranty. I don't even understand why they are so ruthless. The bike shop I bought my specialized for is going to warranty the bike, because it's a real issue and the bike is under warranty, but I have to drive hundreds of miles to take it where I bought it instead of just down the street. They are killing customer loyalty with this treatment. I've read this elsewhere also. Specialized as a company is starting to get a reputation for being cold to people who have legitimate issues under warranty. read more

I originally came to this shop because I was looking for a road bike to get into cycling. Road bikes of all brands were out of stock everywhere, but Specialized Costa Mesa just by chance happened to have the bike I was looking for in my size in stock. So I dropped by and I'm really glad I did. This shop is full of knowledgeable staff who love to ride, but are also well aware of what different people need at different levels of cycling. From making sure my bike was a good fit and letting me try it out to be sure, to making sure it was appropriate for my goals, they did a lot listening and gave a lot of good input. Also, since I bought the bike from there, they stand by doing any adjustments I've needed so far as I've racked up the miles on the bike, no problem and no charge. terrible customer service folks. this bike shop attracted me because it looks very nice and clean and they are a dedicated specialized store brand!!! i've been a big fan of specialized brands since I stared cycling back on 2003. I have been using this bike ever since and owned multiple stumpjumpers, tarmacs and roubaix. i just recently sold my s-works sl4 roubaix and my s-works tarmac sl-3 super light after my wife gave me the all new s-works tarmac sagan edition for our anniversary. after this event, I decided that instead of getting another endurance bike like what I did in the past, this time, my eyes are set on the all new Specialized Venge. after reading positive feedback here on yelp, i finally decided to visit this shop and maybe close the deal and walk out happily with my all new Venge. i stopped by on a weekend, walked in and then there are about 4 sales person on the floor that day. 2 in the counter, and the other 2 are helping other customers. this one employee in the counter glared at me then looked me from head to toe and then looked away. so for me, its nothing because i thought "hey maybe he is busy or maybe thinking of a customer who he just finished helping with." so it's fine, so i continued browsing. then finally this employee at the counter walked up to me, and he didnt even cracked a smile, he didnt even say hello, didnt even say hi or how you doin but instead this rude fella just told me straight up "we dont allow test rides in this store" then he went on and told me that i should go check out this other Specialized Store on Newport Blvd. I will never gonna forget what he said and the look on his face. Wow... Seriously... First you didnt even greet me which is very uncomfortable. Made me feel that I am not welcome. Didnt even asked me questions on what service that I might need. Then you are just going to insult me by saying that you guys dont allow test rides, making me look like I'm some kind of a Bike Thief. Wow.... This is absolute madness. Quite shocking, actually. FYI, i've had couple buddies that have the new Venge and I've already test ride their bikes so I already know how the ride feels like. Ridiculous. Customer Service is very unprofessional. Sorry Specialized Costa Mesa you guys just lost a potential loyal customer who happens to be an experience cyclist. Buyers be worn: They do not warrantee new Specialized Shoes. Unlike any other bike store they do not warrantee any of the Shoes with a BOA lace system. Spent $400+ on new Swerks shoes and in less than 30 day one of the BOA cranks on the laces broke. They said only way to warrantee it is though BOA "a component of the shoe", and would have to handle it myself. but I could pay to have them replace it. They even admitted it is defective, they had the part to fix it but would not unless I paid for it. Be ready for them not to stand behind what they sell read more

I have a shimano rear hub with internal gears, and the gears wouldn't shift. Normally I would try to fix it myself but because they are internal I was a little intimidated. I went to a bike shop and before they even looked at my bike they told me the repair would be at least $100. I called Specialized and talked to Leo who said he had a little time this afternoon and to bring it in. He fixed my bike in five minutes. My bike rides great now and I saved a lot of money taking it to Specialized. I would never expect this level of service but I'll take it when it comes. On New Year's Eve I completely destroyed my derailleur, derailleur hanger, chain, and spokes while starting a ride in Joshua Tree. I went straight away into specialized once I had my next day off, and was extremely lucky to have Quoc there to fix my bike. He's their in-house bike surgeon, and was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and professional. Amazing service! I stopped in Sunday morning because the cleats on my spin shoes were missing screws and I wanted to get them fixed. After I explained the situation to staff, they said that if they could find screws for my shoes, they would fix it for free! Otherwise, I would have to purchase new cleats and they could install it for me. After a few minutes, the gentleman that was helping me out (Frank possibly?) said that they were missing washers, but they had screws and were happy to install them for me, but it might only be a temporary fix. Otherwise, I could purchase cleats for $15. I chose the latter, and they quickly installed everything for me; I walked out a very satisfied customer! Although we are not road/mountain bikers, my fiancee decided that if we were ever to buy a bike, we would come back because the service was awesome. I was slightly scared the store would be too "serious" for an amateur spin biker like me, but I felt very comfortable and not intimidated at all. They also had a coffee bar (!) so bonus points for that. read more

September 2017, after not having ridden a bicycle for some 25 years, I went in looking for a Sirrus Pro Carbon large frame. Domenic put pedals on large and medium frame bikes. We went for a tour of the city, switching bikes every few minutes. It became obvious a medium frame was for me. I couldn't have asked for a better sales experience. They installed my pedals and sent me off to enjoy my new ride. Fast forward a couple of weeks, my right side crank arm came loose. I showed up early. Tom put my bike in his stand, tightened the crank arm, adjusted my derailleurs, checked my bike over, and sent me on my way, no charge. Yesterday, June 10, 2018, 10 months after purchase, went into store with creaking bottom bracket/crank. Steve listened to my story, diagnosed the problem, removed my crank arm, cleaned and applied Locktite. Again, no charge. Every time I've been in the store the employee's have been polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. Not once has anyone attempted to sell me anything I did not request. I'm sorry ML had a bad experience. Her's is the only adverse review this store and the employee's have received. I've got nothing but thanks for the way I've been treated. read more

I've been here 6 times in the last two months and spent $10k. The staff EVERYTIME, acts like what you would expect a weed store experience to be like. Arrogant, unprofessional, rude as hell, absolutely zero customer service ability or skill-greeted with phrases like "what's up boss" or simply ignored all together. I get treated 50X better buying a $6 sandwich at Chick Fil A. So incredibly disappointing every time, because I love the brand and this is my local shop, but I'm just blown away by the horrific experience every single time. I am dumbfounded how you could manage this store and not put even 5% effort into training your staff the absolute basic fundamental skills on how to interact with people-especially when selling a luxury item with an average price tag of $5-10k for a bike. This is very unfortunate because if I can give 0 star I would. I don't usually write negative reviews becase of three reasons. 1. I want to give positive vibes as much as I can. So if I do write reviews its only for the positive experiences. 2. The time. Time is precious to me and my family and 3. I rather just let others experience it on their own instead of me saying my opinion about a certain bike shops. But I realized, I don't want others to experience what i experience. So here I am. Here's the experience: I came in 3 weeks ago to check out the all new S-Works Tarmac as I am in the market to buy a new bike. My choice is R5 or a Tarmac (only cyclist would know what in the world I'm talking about). So then I walked in at Specialized Costa Mesa at around 3pm and this was on a Saturday. Thought that there's gonna be a lot of people but there wasnt. Only about 3 customers (which I am included) and the rest are the staff. How do I know? For obvious reason they all wearing the specialized shirts and can go behind the counters. So I walked in and no greeting. Which is at first I understand because maybe they are just all busy. But then I saw these two gentleman at the counter, just talking and smiling amongst each other. I know they saw me, because they were looking at me when I walked in as I looked at them. I smiled but they didn't as they just give me this straight face look, and they went back doing their business (without saying hello or at least some sort of acknowledgement that there's a customer that just walked in. Those signs I mentioned are already weird for me and I'm already sensing but hey I live in Huntington Beach and I'm already here so why not give it a shot still. One staff is talking to this other customer which is understandable. However here is the unacceptable part. I'm in the shop walking around waiting someone to ask me "how may I help you?" "How can I help you?" You know, a common courtesy. I was there for 15 mins. No one, not a soul approached me. Then here is the most horrible part. 2 Caucasian couple walks in, and not even a second the one taking care of the Helmets, ask them "how you doin, you folks need help?" I walked out and the guy who was helping the customer said "have a great day?" (With a sarcastic smile). Of course I will not have a great day nobody even assist me. Ladies and Gents. If you are looking for a great bike shop it's not just about looks. This bike shop has the looks but it doesn't have the heart. For the people that had good experiences here, good for you. For the new customers that are planning to go here i really do hope that this horrible experience doesn't happen to you, and good luck to you. As for my buddies and I at my bike club, really sorry if we ever do need a new ride this bike shop is now banned from our list. read more

E-Mountain bikes have been ridiculously hard to find since Covid started. I called them up and spoke to Leo who told me they had some available, and I was able to come check them out. When I got there Keanu set me up on a test ride. I decided the bike I tested was perfect and purchased it. They set me up and had me out the door in no time. I highly recommend these guys for all your specialized needs. They didn't pressure me, or make me feel inferior for asking a bunch of questions. Leo and Keanu, thank you!! I will be back!! read more

I am so excited that this shop finally opened!!! Even though the parking lot is a bit goofy, don't let it fool you. This place is. State of the art bike shop. Tommy, aka the bike god, is the man at the helm of this facility. This man really knows the ins and outs of the entire bicycle world. He is one of the best mechanics I've ever run across. He is very fair and won't sell you something you don't need. Couldn't think of someone better to run a shop. The service center is is mind blowing. Stop by and ask them for a tour. Your mind will be blown. The 24 hour policy promises to have your bike back to you assuming they have the parts. My beat up mountain bike creaked like a squeaky old door but they managed to silence the rickety suspension. Other local shops were unable to even identify the location of horrendous noises my bike was making. While waiting to have my bike written up I was offered a beer or coffee. The craft double IPA was delicious and best of all...free! Mind=blow The shop offers many accessories such as grips, tires, water bottle cages, tubes, tires etc and normal pricing. The new technology that specialized has developed is insane. The new bike look like they could ride themselves. I will definitely consider buying one to replace my Ibis. Looks like they have heavily invested in the E-bike surge (no pun intended). The ebikes look like like they have suspension and braking equal to my boutique mountain bike with the advantage of pedal assist. Not for me but pretty cool if it gets people out riding. Front end staff was very polite and friendly. Please start a shop ride for those of us that only ride in the dirt...cars scare us read more

Took my bike to a shop down the street to setup my tubeless rims/tires and had to bring it back on 3 separate occasions where they needed to keep it overnight. Each time I got it back the tires would never hold air. I took it to the new Specialized shop a week ago and they examined the rim and tire, made a slight mod, added some stans and I was out of there in 20 mins (no charge). Been on several rides now with no leakage. Great success! read more
