After I cooled down a little, I retrieved the paperwork that came with my supercharger and also downloaded/printed the CARB executive order which deems it legal. I brought all of this back to SpeeDee and met with the owner/manager (Eric) and his smog technician (Greg). Once they saw this info and we had a civil conversation, they passed my truck and gave me a certificate. Advice to all with aftermarket components on your vehicle: bring all of your paperwork/information/legal proof with you when going in for a smog test. I failed to do that the first time and just took it for granted that everybody already understood it. Not the case! Help the smog guys help you...and make the whole process easier. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My Took my car there to get a smog, first time going there in several years. Stopped going there because other issues we had with them in the past, basically don't trust them at all but thought no harm in getting only a smog done, right?? WRONG. The bill was for $78 for the smog, then I noticed they charged my bank account $110.00 Clearly this was an error, went down there and the owner was rude as F*** he said we gave him a "Tip" on the card reader when we paid for it and he would do nothing to reverse it. We told him um NO why would I give you a $30 tip for anything let alone a smog!! All he wanted to do was argue. Called my bank they are disputing the charge. What actually got done during the hour I spent working online in the lobby while my oil was (probably) being changed? A very short time after I took a seat and starting working through my emails, a uniformed worker appeared with my very dirty air filter. I agreed that it should be replaced. He went back into the employees-only area, and I resumed working. When I'd finished that batch of work forty minutes later, I looked out the window into the service bay and saw the air cleaner assembly sitting atop the engine, and no apparent activity related to oil change, fluid replenishment, or tire pressure adjustment. I am certain that the windshield was swiped with a squeegee, since the streaks were not there when I first arrived. Thankfully, I was able to confirm that my windshield washer fluid was topped off. Tire pressure...still low, as when I arrived. Oil change...? Probably. At least the oil-life percentage was reset to 100%. But did they use the premium-priced synthetic oil I was charged for? Again, probably. But with some work done, some left undone, and the car seemingly untouched since the worker told me the air filter needed replaced...I have serious doubts. The counter-person, though, did apologize and discount the charge for the high-end oil that should have been used, and for nobody telling me that they did not carry my vehicle's air filter--so they were waiting for it to arrive from somewhere. Total time for a "speedy" oil-change and windshield smearing, with the additional benefit of windshield washer fluid and a nagging question of whether I should stop in somewhere tomorrow to see if the oil was actually changed...one hour. I'm glad I hadn't let my email backlog grow any larger than it had. read more

Eric and his team are the best I haven't had the best experience with mechanics but honestly Eric has changed that he took such good care of me and my two sons Not to mention my 2008 ford van that no one else would take the time to listen to me he did and he fixed it for less then half what other places quoted me. Took in my 2021 Honda CrV in for a oil change carrier in my own oil and filter and was charged $50 for labor which I thought was high but went ahead. I drove the car 3 blocks and could smell oil and the check oil light came on. I stopped at my house in the driveway and saw oil pouring out of the car. Drove back and the owner was there told him that what was going on and the first thing he told me was you brought in your own oil and filter. he pulled the car in and went under it for a few minutes and than had me come under the car and said the filter and plug was tight and that I gave them a bad filter. Than told me he didn't want to work on my car and to go away because I said i didn't think the filter was tighten. Had to bet him to put change the oil again and than charged me$108.99 to do it. They started working on my car right away and I only had to wait about 20 minutes. They let me know my cabin filter was dirty but did not pressure me to replace it. My mother doesn't know very much about cars and has always brought her car to my shop in San Jose but she recently moved to Hollister and hasn't been able to bring me her car. She recently had a light come on her dash board and was worried about it. She pulled into the your shop today and was greeted right away Cleone. He was friendly and knowledgeable and assured her that everything was okay it was just a tire pressure light. Do not go here if you don't want your car messed up. They put way too much transmission fluid in my vehicle and my transmission blew. We got stranded on a mountain with no service and my car is now stuck in Chico. The owner has not even tried to contact me after I told them what the workers did. We are now without a vehicle and in debt because we had to get a rental car and hotel room. Absolutely horrible place for anyone to take their car. I commute to San Jose for work and have been bringing my car here for frequent oil changes. I'm always greeted promptly and told it will be 30 minutes or so. They are usually pretty fast. Sometimes it's busier and you can expect to wait a little longer but it also depends what time of the day you go. There is free WiFi to pass the time! I also purchased my tires here last year and I kept running over nails and screws since there is construction going on at my work. I had to see them three times for my tires March-April and my car was ready fast and they did not charge me to patch up my tires! :) My dad also gets his oil changed here and we are both very happy with the service. DO NOT GO HERE! I should of known based off the low ratings. The store manager Rajesh or something like that has HORRIBLE customer service skills. Was very rude when I dropped off the car ( i think because i told him i didn't want synthetic) and then would not accept the coupon i brought in that is promoted on their website and on this yelp page AND LITERALLY SAYS VALID AT THIS LOCATION. Then he said he can't get his scanner to scan the coupon so i asked him just to type it in instead and he refused. I even told him i had a coupon before leaving my car and he said he will look at it after the service was done. Of course he did that so he could rip me off and not let me use the coupon. If i wanted to pay almost $45 for a CONVENTIONAL OIL CHANGE i would of went to the dealership for $37.99. I will not be doing business with Midas SpeeDee again. read more

Went here to get my oil changed. While I was waiting for my car to be done, a customer was in there trying to get a refund because they never put his oil plug back in his car. I stayed thinking "nah they wouldn't do that to my car" especially after having another customer make a big deal about it, in front of me. Boy was I wrong. I just got my oil/brakes/rotors changed at an actual auto shop and they said that my car was leaking oil and it's not because I had a leak! Apparently they only "hang tighten" your drain plug. Ugh, where do I begin? I've come here for routine oil changes on my car. After this last incident. I don't think I'll be returning back. It my fault for coming back and not just going some where else. I came in yesterday for an oil change and tire rotation. Which the guy was very nice and friendly. Standing there waiting at the desk. Waiting. Waiting. The first guy that helped me comes up and asks "Do you need some help sweetheart?" First of all, I'm not your sweetheart! Do not ever call a woman that you do not know sweetheart! I reply "I'm wondering what's taking so long with my car I need to go." Honestly, I needed to use a restroom. I went to there's which by the way is absolutely disgusting!!!! Finally, someone comes back to tell me what's going on. They said my brakes were leaking brake fluid. I asked how much the repair would be. They left again. By this point, I was just extremely frustrated. I told the girl at the register to have them call me cause I couldn't just stand here anymore. I left to use the restroom at McDonald's. I got a call about 10 minutes later. Is was going to cost about $271 to fix my brakes. I said no because well, I don't entirely trust them. I waited about 15 minutes. Paid and got my car. After this, I decided to go to Les Schwab. Just for a second opinion especially since they specialize in tires and brakes. I went, the guy at the desk literally got underneath my car in the parking lot and saw zero signs of break fluid leaking. He said if there was any leaking it would probably be something minor and the repairs would be about $80. Please, save your money. Go some where else. This place is terrible. Literally out for the money and do terrible work. Plus, scared me half me to death with the possibility of it being something more than it was. This place has given me nothing but problems, starting 2 years ago when they left the oil cap off my engine of my brand new Infiniti G35 coupe. I drove to San Jose on a date, and the car started leaking oil and smoking leading me to have it towed to the dealership... Who then told me whoever changed my oil left off the oil cap and oil was blowing out the top. 3 weeks ago I called and asked if they could do a 4-wheel alignment. it was about 2pm on a Saturday. The lady told me she would check with mechanics, got back on phone, said come on in. I was there at 2:15pm. The mechanic told me upon arriving that they didn't have enough time to do it that day and wanted me to come back Monday. I couldn't, I was going out of town. The next weekend, I called at 10am Saturday, asked again if they could do the alignment, and they said yes. I drove down, and was again asked to come back Monday, this time they said "Our alignment tech had to go home". The next Saturday I called and was told they couldn't do it... So I brought it in that following Monday and dropped it off. This time they called and said they couldn't do it because the front wheel bearings needed to be replaced first... So I brought the car home, replaced the front wheel bearings. Today, Friday, I called at 1:45pm and asked if they could do the alignment, the lady told me she would check. Got on the phone and said yes, there was one car ahead of me it would be done in 15 minutes. I told her I would be there in 10 minutes... upon arriving, got the run around and was told yet again, they couldn't do it and they needed a different alignment tech to do it. Stay away from this place! Terrible way to do business. Has wasted tons of my time. read more

Cheap, but be weary. I've had my oil change done here a few times, but I always have to be vigilant of their work. I've seen them put other branded oil in the car (whenever is lying around) when I request Mobil 1. On my last trip, I asked for Mobil 1 10w-30. After they acknowledged my request, I caught them putting a completely different weight oil in my car and when I asked why, they explained they didn't have my weight in stock and they the picked the nearest thing. There is an auto parts store down the block, so I ended up running down there to pick up the proper weight synthetic oil and had them put it in. Either way, unless you plan to watch them like a hawk while the do something as simple as an oil change, I would be careful with their work. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. Went here to get a smog check today. They told me it would be about 20 minutes. Seemed like nice service. I told them I was going to run next door & come back. 15 minutes later they called me saying the testers weren't working, & they'd have to run a full diagnostic to figure out what the issue is. I asked how much that would run & the guy said $75. I didn't feel right about it, so I told them no & I was going to come pick up my car. I saw a sign for smog checks across the street at the Chevron station, so I took my truck there. It only took 10 minutes, & it passed. Glad I went with my intuition. They offer 17pt inspection which includes washing front and rear windows and vacuuming inside of car. 2 out of 3 times I've been there that service was not done. Why even advertise it if they are not going to do it. Girl at front desk apologized not her fault but manager needs to make sure all services are rendered. I was a walk in client at 10am Saturday morning for an oil change and a break check. My experience with having my oil change has always been at the most 30 minutes, at the Hayward and San Leandro location. When asking how long it would take, I was told 1 hr, and I found this to be reasonable, since there were 6 cars in front of me. After waiting 2 3/4hr I was told it was still not ready. I got up from my seat and immediately saw my car being lifted. I waited another 20 minutes and then told the receptionist that I had changed my mind about the breaks. She then went to the back and immediately came back and said that it had already been done. It was found that my break pads needed to be replaced and that they had "cracked," also, my front disk needed replacement. It would cost me slightly over $1000 to replace (that was the estimate). Because they asked me to come back and make an appointment, I took my estimate (which Midas had charge me $50)to another mechanic. The other mechanic showed me that my breaks were in great condition and in truth if any thing needed replacement, it would be my rear disk which would end up costing me under $250 for parts and labor. So ladies and gentlemen, if you want to get ripped off, go to you local Hollister Midas, or ...support your local small auto shops for great deals. read more

I posted this same review on Speedy's, since the two share the same location. I think the staff is also the same. This is a review not of their mechanics, but of their customer service. I have gotten my car smogged here with no problems. However, this time I needed a rim replaced on my car. I called to ask what it would cost, and was put on hold for THIRTY MINUTES at which point I gave up and called again. Turns out the woman had completely FORGOTTEN me because she was "busy in the front". So I went over there and had a guy check the rim and look at the car, and he wrote my number and name down and said he would call me on Tuesday to tell me if he was able to find the right rim. On Thursday, having heard nothing, I decided to call them. They had no idea what I was talking about and put me on hold again. This time I waited only 10 minutes before calling back. Turns out he was also "busy in the front". The guy told me that their usual deal is when they need a part, they just sit around waiting for someone to call and say that they have it. At which point they will then call me. ... WHAT? I'm just supposed to sit around with my broken car waiting for you to call me? No time frame? No check-in? No nothing? And why was I told that they would call me on Tuesday? If I had known they were just going to wait until the part I need hits them on the back of the head, I would have taken my business elsewhere, which is what I am now going to do. Update: Went to San Benito Tire Inc, and they did a great job. They fixed the dent in my rim instead of replacing it, and charged me only $20 read more

Wow! I was a little hesitant to come here after reading such bad reviews!! READERS: this place is not bad at all, to my understanding, they are under new management. Jacob (manager) has been very helpful in every way possible. I am not from this area but I stopped on the way in after a light popped up in my car. Looks like I needed an oil change. Instead of trying to sell me a whole bunch of unnecessary products, I felt like they only showed me what I absolutely needed. I always feel like I'm being heckled to buy buy buy but not here! I should have checked yelp before coming to Speedee now I know why they are at two stars. My truck failed the first smog test and after getting a repair they refused to check it again because of one missing reading even though the State allows it. I used to be a regular customer when it was owned and run by the previous owner. New ownership does not get that these days customer service is everything! There coupons are clever marketing, but you can get better service and pay less for a smog check at Car Diagnostics. read more

Bad customer service, if you don't like working there as a receptionist, find a different job. Don't give customers crappy service because you look like you hate the job you applied and got hired for. Customers go to your professional repair shop in a bad mood sometimes and they have to pay a steep price for a simple oil change job, the last thing they need sometimes is bad service. At least Greet us with a friendly attitude. It won't hurt to be a little more welcoming. Maybe the manager needs to re-train for customer service or that receptionist needs to go. I have been going to this place for a couple years with no issues. However, my daughter went in and they charger her $10 for an oil filter that is not included in an oil change. Really not included!!! The bill had 2 filters on it. One included and one not but they had the same number so they chargered the $10. The lady could not explain the bill to me. The bill made no sense either. The numbers don't add up. When asked the last behind the counter she says she wasn't the person to write it up. Obvious they can't do math. read more
