It says it serves Indian food. But by the time you see what's on your platter, it's actually quite different than what it actually should be. I was here last (Friday) night, which wasn't busy. I was unattended for 10-15 minutes. Once I placed my order, it came after 30 minutes. The person at the desk was busy running orders to go, with a minimum interest as to what's happening in the restaurant. I ordered for Chhole Bhature, but I was almost unknown to the type of Bhature that was served to me. I did not mind it though. Perhaps more attention to the clients will do fairly good. The people living in the area leaving low-star reviews sound like divas, the kind of Yelpers who are rarely happy and responsible for many a good restaurant closing. My advice: ignore them, and order generously around the extensive menu. I order take-out frequently, and I also enjoy it for a quick midweek lunch option. Came here on a date with Mommy, had a great time. We shared the butter chicken and the lentil daal. The butter chicken was of the best I've ever had. The daal was a little runny - I just prefer it thicker. It would be a great accompaniment to a spicy dish. Add some mellow vibes. The restaurant was really great, local feel, kind staff. Takeout Time! I take samosas VERY SERIOUSLY hence I never order them from US-based Indian-Ishtyle restaurants because my Calcutta bong family makes superlative ones from scratch and I'm not stupid. However, I was missing my family a couple of Sundays ago and so I samosa-succumbed. GUYS. The veg samosas at Spice & Grill are brilliant. Perfect pastry. Perfectly seasoned filling. You won't need either dhania (green) or tetul (brown) chutneys. But totally have them because they're well made and delicious. Next time I am homesick I will place a double order of samosas without hesitation. I enjoyed their version of Bhatmas Sadeko (vegan! gluten-free!)--a crunchy soybean "chaat" (meaning super great snicky-snack that pairs well with beer, a whiskey, or tea if you must) seasoned with haldi (turmeric), a few chopped onions, a little chopped cilantro and dressed with mustard oil. When my Madh Pau makes bhatmas sadeko it is thoroughly seasoned with timur (schzeuan peppercorn), chili powder, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, and loads of chopped green (and maybe a few red) chilis. There is also lots and lots of whiskey on hand and a couple of other uncles and aunts who play a mean game of gin rummy. Perhaps Spice & Grill's version might be dialed back a bit but still, I was thrilled with the taste of mustard oil and it brought back happy memories. You see, I miss my Newari family in Kathmandu a ton, too. We ordered a few other items that were ok--some steamed chili veg momos with the chili sauce on the side (the filling was tasty and the skins were lovely and thin...but the product sort of fell apart and the sauce was one of those tomato ketchup-tasting-sweet types with a few pieces of capsicum and onions floating around); garlic naan; regular naan; and a veg dinner "box" that is best not discussed save to say that two tiny pieces of paneer in a "veg paneer" can make one quite sad. Still. I definitely look forward to trying more items from their Himalayan/Nepali menu. And of course I will order the bhatmas sadeko and samosas in perpetuity. read more

They Only get two stars because while their butter chicken was really good. Everything else I ate was terrible. The salad was drenched in a dressing that wasn't what was listed in the description. Ordered delivery yesterday. Took two hours to get to me. By the time I got the food, the rice was cold and the chicken Marsala I ordered was warm. Once I finished my meal, my stomach started bubbling and I spent at least a half hour on the toilet. I was pretty excited after reading the reviews but everything was trash. Soup had no flavor. Ordered late in the evening for pickup. Food was ready on time and when we left a tip, they gave us a free drink! So nice and unexpected. When I grabbed the bag it was heavy, a very good sign! I hadn't been sure if it was enough when I ordered it but it definitely was. We had a couple of dishes but probably our favorite was the chicken momos in spicy sauce. We've never had dumplings quite like them or better than these. We also had the lamb vindaloo which was excellent. The garlic naan was so great and huge. The smell of it!!! For desert, I got the gulab jamen, my all time favorite desert. I was so happy that it came warm with 4 balls. My partner had never had it and I think his eyes rolled to the back of his head because of how yummy it is. We will be back once we finish our leftovers. read more

No, he said, any place that has it here will do it much better than in my new home. (Which has its own charms.) Well, we did better than that. Stopped in for lunch. The place was very clean and i was immediately greeted with friendliness and respect. The staff remained that way throughout my visit. Now to the food. The lunch special was great. It was the perfect amount of food for a decent $9 price tag. The food was good and fresh, not overly processed and not too Americanized with sugar and extra grease to hide cheap quality. I haven't tried the other menu items but based on lunch, i would recommend this restaurant and I will be coming back to try more menu items in the future. Well, this is the place that got me to finally write my first Yelp review. Ordered Saag Paneer and Vindaloo. BEST INDIAN FOOD I've had in NYC so far (4 years). The Vindaloo is perfectly balanced with the right amount of heat & spices. (Other Vindaloo I've had has been too spicy, or too much cloves) The Saag Paneer was so satisfying. Used to be one of our favorite places to order: deliveries were prompt and accurate. The past 2-3 times we have ordered deliveries have taken an hour or more (for a restaurant less than a mile away) and were sometimes inaccurate. They've also done shady things like mark the food as delivered 30+ minutes before it arrives, presumably to pad some statistic or another. I have never had Indian food (I did when I was young and I hated it) so this is the first time. And WOW it was delicious! I got the garlic tikka and OMG. So I drenched the chicken in lemon cause I love to do that with everything I eat and it tasted like lemon chicken with Indian spices. So much flavor! This is my new favorite thing. Also last time I got the vegetable masala (I think.. it was a tomato sauce curry) and it was delicious! That's why I came back. Me and my man went into the this restaurant by happenstance. We were greeted so lovely and were offered a menu just to check out and we did. So many different dishes jumped out at us. They did inform us that don't have a bar yet but it is BYOB friendly. From that point we left and came back with a bottle of our own. The food was spectacular the staff was so engaging and kind. We are definitely coming back, the lentil soup, the chicken momo and the chicken sadeka are my new fave things to eat. You have no idea how complete my life is right now after finding an Indian/Nepalese restaurant close enough to my abode that satisfies what I need. If there's anything more than 5 stars, I would totally give that to Spice and Grill without blinking. I started getting deliveries from here couple of months ago and they have been nothing but best. Food quality is unbelievable. They come in hot and tasty with every delivery. Gravy consistency is maintained throughout. You ask them for extra spicy, you get it. Ask them for less oily sides, you get it. This is easily my most favorite Indian place in Brooklyn since I moved. Staff recognize you immediately and are extremely courteous and helpful.
