Street parking is free, but the attendant let me know he frequently sees break-ins, so i opted to park in the lot. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant was fine. There was light music in the background and it presented as a casual place! Plenty of people at the bar, enough space for a graduation party, and a nice, enclosed patio area that I'd like to sit on next time! Drinks: I had whatever form of tropical mimosa they had. It took a while to reach our table, but it was good! Food: I had the curry goat and my friend had the coconut curry shrimp dish. Portions were good, presentation was good, and the food was served fresh and hot. Service: This is where they lost me at. Initially, our server was very kind and attentive, however, after she took our food orders she was almost impossible to track down. We were trying to identify her to flag her down for napkins, but she didn't even look our way as she dropped napkins off on the table directly next to us that was so close I could tap the next patron's shoulder. When it was time to pay, we had to flag down the manager who then was having trouble using the POS system and unable to find our waitress which further prolonged our stay at the restaurant. When we finally did get the bill, it had an automatic gratuity which we were told is mandatory. Automatic gratuity makes sense so everyone makes their money, but is not a free-pass to not give service to your tables and disappear. I am someone who gives a great deal of grace, especially to those working in hospitality, because I understand the stress of dealing with multiple personalities and high-pressure environments. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing. I visited from Texas and came with a friend who is local. We ordered three crab clusters each at the same time. My friend received her order correctly, while I was initially brought only one crab leg. When I explained that this was not my order, the server simply walked away without addressing the issue. I later flagged down my waitress, who assured me she would personally bring the correct order. After quite some time passed, she returned asking how my food was, despite never having brought it. Eventually, I received only two clusters instead of the three ordered. When I pointed this out, the waitress attempted to convince me that the two clusters on the plate were actually three, then she left and came back with a manager who clearly acknowledged that there were only two clusters served. After finally receiving the third cluster, I was told there were no utensils available to crack the crab legs. Unless you have very strong hands, I would not recommend ordering them. To make matters worse, our waitress disappeared for long stretches of time. We repeatedly had to ask other staff members for a to-go box and our check, both of which took an excessive amount of time to receive. When the waitress finally returned with the bill, she had the audacity to ask how the meal was. What stood out most was that the guests seated on both sides of us were also visibly frustrated and discussing the poor service they had experienced. An 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill, and many of us came to the same conclusion: because the tip is guaranteed, the quality of service is none existent. read more

This past Saturday a friend came to town and wanted to check this spot out. I called before driving to midtown to ask if we needed reservations and to determine if they had a dedicated parking lot. I was advised that we could just walk in if we were planning to dine within the next. 30 min or so. That would be around 5pm on a Saturday. Regarding parking - I was told there is a desiccated parking lot. It is valet parking for $10. When we pulled up it was clear that the valet parking was NOT really valet parking . Don't expect your door to be opened, your car to be parked for you, or it to be dropped off to you upon your departure! Honestly they should just ditch the "valet" and say that there is a charge of $10 to park. When we walked in we were greeted by a nice sign and a host stand. We were immediately seated at a table near the restrooms. There were plenty of staff working, yet there was a delay in an initial greeting by our wait staff. After about 10-15 minutes a wait staff did finally ask if anyone had assisted us. We told her no. At this point our wait staff decide to speak up and say yes it's my table! Once our wait staff finally came over she took our drink orders. When she returned with the drinks we placed our food order. I opted to go with the turkey wing plate and my friend ordered the oxtails. In addition to the entrees we ordered a side of plantains and coco bread. The food came out fast! Honestly I feel like most of this food is cooked ahead of time and there is no reason to delay bringing it out- so I am ok with the food coming out quickly. After we blessed the food we dug in! The coco bread was nothing special. Honestly it tasted like regular white bread to me. From past dinning experienced the coco bread here is not the correct texture or taste. Maybe there are different types of coco bread??! The turkey wing had great flavor but were tough and not fall off the bone tender. I took them home and cooked them in the oven to have that fall off bone experience. I enjoyed the taste of the rice that accompanied my meal as well as the plantains. My friend said the food had a good taste, but the oxtail were too small for the price of the meal. I will say that I think they should take more pride in presentation. The oxtail plate has gravy dripping down the side of the plate when it was placed on the table. (See picture attached). Went for a special that was advertised on their account. $5 crab while supplies last and $5 drinks all night. The restaurant stated that the promotion was for $5crab clusters only and that the drinks were normal price. The management said that the post was for an old promotion (even though it was posted the day prior saying that they would have it EVERY THURSDAY. The management refused to honor it. They also advertised a live DJ but there was no dj until later on (maybe almost 8 pm) Decided to stay anyway for the $5 crab which is still a great deal. The hostess seemed a bit frazzled. There were not any greetings or pleasantries exchanged. however, we were quickly seated for our reservation. Once seated, it took quite a while to be helped. Once the waiter came she was very friendly and had a positive attitude. Table was very sticky, even after we asked the waitress to wipe it down. Unsure if it was the material of the table or what. This is a restaurant I visit often, but unfortunately, my experience tonight was very disappointing. I went into the restaurant and spoke with a newly hired host to make a reservation for a party of nine. My group arrived about 20 minutes late because I needed everyone in the party to be present before we were seated. When I confirmed with the host that all of my guests had arrived, she informed me that our table had been given away. I told her that we could simply leave and dine elsewhere since we were late. However, she insisted that if we waited about 20 more minutes, they would definitely be able to accommodate us. I specifically asked if she was sure, and explained that we were willing to go somewhere else rather than continue waiting. Based on her assurance, we decided to stay. Unfortunately, after waiting 45 minutes, our table was still not ready. A supervisor/manager did approach us and ask what could be done to improve the situation, which I appreciated. However, the host's handling of the situation did not help resolve the issue. She could benefit from additional training in customer service and professionalism, especially since hosts are often the first point of contact and represent the face of the restaurant. When I politely asked for her name, she refused to provide it. On a positive note, the parking lot attendant was excellent and provided the best customer service experience we had all evening. I came here spontaneously because I saw a post on IG. It was after brunch so the dj was wrapping up. I was warmly greeted and offered a table or seat at the bar, I opted for a seat at the bar. The music selection was cool. I was dancing in my seat the entire time. My server was Nelly B and she let me know that it would take a while for my food order since they were switching over to dinner, so I ordered the Jerk chicken egg rolls and a lemon drop. My egg rolls were ok but my drink was really good! My meal eventually arrived, I ordered the pineapple chicken rice. It arrived in a carved out pineapple, which was really cool. The appetizer was fantastic. Those chips were the best I've ever had. Extremely crunchy and tasted good all by themselves too! The dip was very rich and cheesy & the oxtail fell off the bone. My Pineapple Paradise drink supposedly had tequila in it, but it just tasted like a good juice. I had asked if there was actually liquor and I was told it sneaks up on you, but there was no sneaking after I had finished the whole thing lol. Now the downside of this visit is the fact that it took 45 minutes before the waiter came back to my table to take my order for an entrée. We had a great time celebrating my mom's birthday brunch at Spice House Midtown. We made reservations ahead of time, and they seated us promptly as soon as we arrived. The food and service were both fantastic. The ambiance was nice, it had a bohemian island vibe. We started with the jerk chicken and oxtail egg rolls and the fried green tomatoes, and they were all really good. For the main course, I had the shrimp and grits, my mom had the lobsterman fried rice, my daughter had the French toast, and everyone else had the island boy breakfast. Our server Diamond did an excellent job explaining the menu and giving details on certain items. The food came out hot and quick. I ordered the oxtail egg rolls and this was the first time I had them presented with whole pieces of oxtail on top. It was such a nice touch and of course they were delicious. The sauce that came with it was perfect. I also tried their happy hour specials. The tropical long island was so good, I could not tell you what is in it but it hit the spot. I ordered the five piece lemon pepper wings and they were fried to perfection. Fried hard and exactly how I like them. I tried some of the oxtail fried rice which came with oxtail on the side and some fries too. This is hands down my favorite Spice House location. The food is always good every time I come. Decide to try out the $5 snow crab with my fiance and had an absolutely subpar experience. I arrived at 4pm and was told we would have to wait 25mins for the crabs to finish cooking so we decided to order a Rasta Pasta while we waited. The crab legs came out an hour later at 5pm. The pasta came out around 5:30pm after asking where it was at. The food was delicious. The Rasta Pasta was great and the crab legs were good. I understand they were slammed with customers so I'm more forgiving for the wait. The service was absolutely terrible. As more customers arrived, the attitude of the waiters also increased. We saw our waiter maybe 4 times the entire time including asking for the check. She brought out our food but gave us no utensils. So we sat there staring at our food for about 10 minutes until a nice guy sweeping the floor came by and he provided us the utensils to actually eat the food. We never got any refills on our drink bc our waiter was never around. When we did see our waiter she was walking outside on her phone multiple times. When it was time to order more food we had to ask another employee to take our order bc our waiter was nowhere to be found. It took so long for the food to come out that I got up to tell our waiter to cancel our order so we can just leave. She told us to hold on as she walked into the kitchen. Our food was now magically ready or maybe our waiter didn't care to check on it. The biggest slap in the face was having to pay gratuity on a party of 2 with absolutely terrible service. I've ate at restaurants around the world and this establishment has the award for worst service. Maybe the gratuity on any size party insentivize some employees to not care about their quality of services. The table next to us was having similar issues so this is not a 1 waiter issue. The issue was with a $26 dish I ordered that ended up being far too spicy for me to eat. I only took a few bites before realizing I couldn't finish it. The staff did offer me another item, which I appreciated, but I declined. The entrée was partially comped, but the main dish was taken away. I was allowed to keep the side of mac and cheese that came with it. In the end, I paid $15, essentially for a side, which didn't feel like a fair resolution. I would have been much happier either having the entrée fully comped or discounted and allowed to take it with me. Only come here if you enjoy unlimited disrespect served hot, because the food definitely will not be. We spent over $600 for a birthday celebration, and what we received was cold food, a mishandled reservation, and absolutely no accountability. To make matters worse, we arrived early and waited for over an hour. During that entire time, the staff knew the party before us was running behind schedule. They knew we would not be seated on time and chose not to communicate that. No update. No transparency. Nothing. We stood there waiting while they intentionally withheld information. Because of that delay, we were eventually seated at a table that was clearly too small for our party -- including the birthday guest. The person we came to celebrate ended up squeezed at a reduced table, watching another group use her reservation and receive attentive, continuous service. That contrast did not go unnoticed. The restaurant overbooked and gave our reserved table away. Instead of taking responsibility, they blamed the kitchen and implied it was a busy night. The supervisor did not check on us during service. She did not come by when the food arrived cold. Members of our party were waiting for drinks while their meals sat in front of them. The supervisor only appeared after we had already paid, and only after being prompted about what would be done for the inconvenience. She asked what was wrong as if it were new information, handed the birthday guest a watered-down shot, and left. There was no sincere apology. No meaningful corrective action. Nothing -- and we still paid in full. If guests are finished eating and remaining at tables for the live band, there needs to be structure. Add a cover charge. Relocate them to the patio. Implement a policy. Allowing paying guests with reservations to stand and wait while others occupy tables indefinitely is not a "busy night." It is poor management. What made this experience worse was the dismissive tone and lack of care -- especially toward first responders in our group. Professionalism was absent. This was not just a bad night. It was a masterclass in disorganization, disrespect, and a complete lack of business ownership. I have already spoken with the supervisor, and if the owner continues to operate this way, no amount of seasoning in the food or talent from the live band will save it -- especially in the Atlanta restaurant market. Everyone in our party should have been compensated for the inconvenience. The host and supervisor were incompetent and unprofessional, and the staff's behavior reflected that leadership -- disorganized, reactive, and walking in circles.When people travel from different parts of the United States to YOUR BUSINESS to celebrate a loved one's birthday, they expect basic hospitality. I should have asked but I had no idea I would be charged $260 for two entrée we received was one single rib, mashed potatoes, and two sprigs of broccoli and absolute rip off. They were incredibly accommodating--my dinner party grew three different times, from 10 people to 16, and they handled it without hesitation. There was a little wait, but honestly it didn't matter. We enjoyed live music and drinks at the bar, which made the time fly by. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and just genuinely pleasant to be around. The food, though... even better. I ordered the red snapper, and I can honestly say it was the best red snapper I've ever had. There was something special about the crust, and after talking with the manager, I learned it's cooked using a Haitian method. It absolutely made the dish. What impressed me even more was finding out the manager was only nine days into the job and still managed every single request flawlessly. That alone says a lot about the level of service here. Food came out at different times, so no one ate together. Total chaos. The server was polite but clearly drowning. This was 100% a management issue.
