I come to this plaza often and saw there was a new place so I wanted to try. Parking is easy. The restaurant itself isn't too small. We ordered our food for pick up. We ordered the beef fried rice and kung pao beef. Both very good but I think next time I'll have to get the kung pao beef with the meat and sauce only and nothing else. I feel like I hardly got any beef to be honest. The taste is good and it's very flavorful, but I don't like nuts or onions. Also it's priced well on average but not for me lol. Hubby & I came here for their lunch special. The Sweet & Sour Chicken is highly recommended! We enjoyed it so much! This restaurant is in the shopping area across from El Pollo Loco. There's plenty of parking especially if you don't come during meal times The interior is small and is simply decorated. I liked the kitty figurines. Spicy Chinese Kitchen is a new hidden gem in Torrance! This spot just opened up in a small plaza at the border of Torrance and Harbor City. It still has the name of the previous restaurant that was there but they have a large red banner that says "Spicy Chinese Kitchen. Grand Opening." Though relatively new I could definitely tell when I visited that this spot is gaining popularity quickly! By the time I left, this small spot had every table filled. I was impressed right from the start. They have a great lunch special that starts at $10.99. Each meal is kicked off here with complimentary peanuts and pickled vegetables and lunch special includes soup and white rice. They've got a great selection of entrees. My friend and I ended up getting Cashew Nut Chicken and Chicken with Green Onion. Both dishes were flavorful and tasty. Portion sizes were huge too and I had plenty of leftovers. The food is really good here for lunch and dinner but I can confidently say that their lunch specials are the best price to quality deal in Torrance/South Bay. Have gone back more than 20 times now. Went for lunch specials on a weekend and this is a full level leap up in regional Chinese food for the area! Reasonably priced and very spicy (be careful if you aren't used to southern Chinese food!). My mouth was still stinging well after the meal for the delicious hunan chicken with decent wok hei. The mustard shrimp was tasty, crispy and creamy. The San di xian (eggplant / green pepper / potato) was wonderful. The tea drinks were also good with fresh fruit in the fruit tea, and an extra good deal as a combo with the lunch specials. Bonus rural Chinese life videos were playing on the TV as we waited for our food. Service was prompt and friendly and she spoke good English. We would've eaten there if they had outdoor seating but we went to a park nearby with our takeout and that was great too. First off, the pricing is actually pretty comparable to the Chinese areas. They also have daily lunch specials, around $10 with rice, plus $2.75 for a drink. For people working nearby, that's honestly a great deal. As someone with a Chinese palate, I can't eat ramen every day. Sometimes I just want proper stir-fry dishes. Braised spicy duck The price is similar to what you'd find in the Chinese areas, but the portion is huge. The duck is meaty, not skinny or bony at all. There are lots of add-ins, and there's no way you'll finish it in one sitting. You'll probably end up taking it home, and you can treat it like hot pot later by adding whatever ingredients you like. It actually gets more flavorful the longer it cooks. So good. Spicy beef with tofu pudding This is a must-order for me. The beef is sliced very thin and super tender. The seasoning is really on point, and tofu pudding with beef is just such a perfect combo. Amazing with rice. Minced pork with pickled long beans Very home-style, comforting flavor. The fresh chilies add a nice, bright aroma. My husband said it reminded him of something his uncle used to cook, which I think is a pretty high compliment. We ordered egg fried rice for the kid, just thinking it would be something simple to keep them busy, but it actually turned out really good.
