I'd rather go elsewhere. I ordered two red tamales, a chorizo quesadilla, and some pan dulce to go. The person taking my order seemed confused and kept thinking I wanted a chicken quesadilla. I pointed on the menu and also switched to ordering in Spanish. I guess that wasn't enough because once I got home I still found a chicken quesadilla in my bag. Everything tasted fine but I was really wanting chorizo. I even asked in Spanish if they have chorizo and I was told yes. I don't plan to return. I wish I hadn't gone out of my way to go here because Saraga (the international grocery store) has less expensive pan dulce and that are still really good. I think saraga also has tamales but I haven't tried them yet. read more

When you hear mom and pop, hidden gem, this here is what everyone is talking about! I was randomly in New Albany and while on my way home towards downtown, I really needed a snack. After quickly discovering Spice Cup on Yelp, I bee lined it there as my tummy was rumbling something fierce. You'll find them tucked off Dublin-Grandview Rd in a small strip mall. There's also plenty of parking out front. I walked in to find a slightly outdated space that was adorned with all kinds of plants. If you know me at all you know plants and greenery are my favorite. A smile quickly spread across my face. Almost immediately, what I would describe as a grandma figure that you automatically want to just hug, emerged to answer my questions and even make suggestions. She pointed out her favorite treat and I snagged one up along with a croissant and a conchas. The price tag was insanely cheap and just like that I was on my way. All in all, if you're looking for authentic Mexican treats, you've found your place. First - best churros in the city hands down. After that though it's difficult to interact in the restaurant. Online ordering is down. You can place phone orders in Spanish only. There are no posted menus. Tables are usually dirty. People are friendly and it has a homey feel. A little bit of signage would go a long way to letting me know how to navigate. If you can show up and wait for 15 minutes for excellent churros though, it's worth it. read more

According to the website, this restaurant offers an abundant assortment of savory food including sandwiches, quesadillas, empanadas and tamales. Five of us arrived at 5:00 for dinner and there were no tamales and only two empanadas. We grabbed the last 2 empanadas and ordered some quesadillas and sandwiches. The food was really really good and if that's all there was to consider, I'd give this place a "5". However, the proprietress speaks very little English and it was really hard to communicate. One of us ordered sandwiches to go which she wanted to stay in the fridge until she left but she never managed to get that across. One of us asked for a glass of water but couldn't get one. A while later, another person asked for a glass of water and she did manage to get one. The other thing is that the prices on their website are WAY off. The website says empanadas cost 1.75 and quesadillas cost 3.50; yet, I was charged $13 for one empanada and one quesadilla. The proprietress did tell one of us that the prices were wrong but not until she actually paid. The prices are still quite reasonable but they should let people know in advance what things cost. I still don't know if they ever have tamales (did they just run out?) or if they're off the menu for good but there was no way to ask that and expect an answer. Stopped in, saw the assorted scrumptious pastries, left with a cheese-jam danish thing and some "tres leches" cake (really seems to be just a strawberry cake, but looks and tastes great.) This was one of the stops on our Columbus Food Adventures Alt Eats tour. If you look for it, you won't see a sign since we were told it blew off and they never bothered to replace it since their customers know where they are :). Look for the Kafi's Cafe sign! We were served some hot churros and OMG - they were AMAZING! I could have eaten 3, but needed to save space for our other stops. The pastries are a plenty and the prices very reasonable at about $1-$1.50 each. The pastries are light and fluffy and not super sweet like American versions. This was this week's Friday bakery pick. It is located at the end of the shopping strip. There is no sign with their name so I almost didn't know where they were. They are also a restaurant. The owner said that they started serving food about a year ago. The owners were super nice and showed me how to pick out the bake goods I wanted. He also went over each one and told me the ones that were just baked. They also brought out fresh goods for me to pick from. They were pretty busy and had already sold out of churros before I got there. They had only been open 2 hours. I got a variety of items. There wasn't anything that the group didn't like. One of the favorites was the cream puff and the coconut topped bread. They have guava turnovers and the donuts are dense. It was nice being able to sample this Mexican bakery. I can't wait to go back to try something else. read more

I've came a few times and no one ever greets me even when I say Hello In Spanish . The woman there does not speak English and if you don't know Spanish she gets irritable and really impatient when asking her to repeat herself. Idk if it's because I am of different background. But I always come in with a smile and kind words. I feel very dismissed. She sold me 2 slices of tres leches cake for $6. Then a few days later she refused to sell me a slice and said I must buy the whole thing for $50. She got really rude Because I couldn't hear her and asked her to repeat herself. I have passed this cafe many times and I've never had time to stop in, well I did today!! Upon entering I didn't see a menu no where, I did see a small wipe board with a few items listed, therefore I had to pull the menu up on my phone. I was a bit disappointed a few items on the menu was not available. I ordered the scrambled egg and and turkey ham sandwich, to my surprise very flavorful on some sort of French bread maybe which was soft, it also included some sort of spicy sauce that wasn't overpowering. I ordered what was recommended Chicken With Green Salsa Tamale, this was my favorite, perfect amount of spice, very flavorful. I also ordered a sugar croissant, nothing special, it was soft and not too sweet. Lastly I ordered what they called it, a banana and strawberry milkshake, oddly it didn't taste too bad, but I want be ordering it again. Dinning room could have been cleaner, a lot of tables were left unclean and with leftover food. Overall a good experience and great food. read more

We were completely out of our "normal," reading the what we now know is an old sign (Italian Coffee) only to find that we had discovered an authentic Mexican Bakery and OH MY!!! The pastries are so fresh and lovely and delicious! Fernando was gracious and welcoming, taking his time to describe each item and recommendinhis favorites. Everything was created from scratch and baked fresh today in the bakery. What a wonderful discovery on our trip through Columbus. Call me a weirdo. I'm just might be one. but I enjoy going to places where I don't speak the language and having to communicate with others. I don't speak Spanish or Spanglish however I do enjoy trying to get them to understand me and me understand them and this is what happened when I came to this location. The first I did my best to communicate was that I like spicy with flavor and when I said that they understood greatly. It even brought a smile to my server face. I then did my best to say. Give me whatever you eat that is spicy with flavor not just hot. I told him don't even tell me what it is. Just bring it out. I'll put some Tabasco pepper sauce on it and eat it. He smiled with a confused look and brought me tamales chicken tamales. Which was fine. I had them many times and they were good. He also bought me what kind of tastes like a Jamaican beef Patty but didn't have the spice as the Jamaican beef patty does. It actually had a little sweet taste to it which was fine. All in all I had fun. Just trying something different not being able to communicate thoroughly. Interesting my server that they would bring me something that was good and it was. Is this a place I would take a friend who's visiting from out of town? Yes if they can speak Spanish or if they were adventurous like myself. When I came the bakery portion of it was pretty low. I came about noonish on a Sunday. I don't know how they stock the bakery portion of it but I actually came for pastries. But when I walked in I saw all sorts of food being served. We really enjoyed this little coffee shop / bakery. We were in town to see the Immersive Van Gogh out at Polaris and just wanted a light breakfast. The breakfast rolls were terrific and the owner and staff couldn't have been nicer! We visit the area often and will definitely be back here again. Great start to a great day. Walked in on a slow Thursday afternoon. The decors is nice. They have some couches in the corner and lots of tables. The whole space is very large. There were two upright baked good display cases and a large row of mostly unused display cases. I walked in wanting two things only Flan and Tres Leches. They were out of flan, but had a refrigerated case of tres leches. The tres leches was moist, light, and sweet. It was decorated with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, too bad alot of it stuck to the container. What was unique about this iteration of a classic Latin dessert is that there were peaches in between layers of white cake that offered a freshness to the cake. This is the best Mexican bakery in Ohio! You walk in, grab a tray, pick your bread, and head to the counter to pay. I love their churros with dulce de leche filling and their bread with pastry cream is delicious. :))) I've been going here since a couple years ago to get the freshest bread. You can also place orders if you want more than you think you can get by just walking in. (I also recommend you buy a chocolate called "Chocolate de Abuelita" and put a piece in your mug of milk, then put it in the microwave and stir it until it's all smooth, then dip your bread in. Having heard so much about Panaderia Guadalupana, I had to go in and try them when I was in the area. The selection of pastries and breads was impressive to the point of being a bit confusing - nothing was labeled, and the only person working was behind the register and nowhere near the pastry cases, so I just had to fall back on the reliable plan of "get some things that look neat." I ended up with a very tasty cream filled bun, a sweetened cheese stuffed roll that looked like a horseshoe, a thin log stuffed with spiced apples and raisins, a raspberry filled pocket, and an identical looking pastry from the same tray that ended up being filled with pineapple. I've seen other reviewers mention that PG also offers savory breads and pastries from the same cases, but everything I bought turned out to be sweet. Pastries seemed to average about $1 - $1.50 each, and you shop by grabbing a cafeteria style tray, loading it from the case with tongs, and taking it to the register, where they'll bag you up if you're ordering to go. I loved the taste of everything I tried (and so did my roommates, when I brought them back my haul to share), and I did see signs that the place is being set up as an excellent "hang out" spot, but adding labels (English or Spanish! Just give me something to work with!) and / or prices to the display cases would instantly bump them from a three star to a four star place in my mind. read more

The set up is a little confusing, I had to confirm with the lady working that I just pick up a tray and pick what I want. However, that gives you the option to take as much time as you like deciding which is great. $5 minimum for credit card holders - but everything is pretty cheap so you can get 5 or 6 pastries for 5 bucks! Excellent food, great service. The best tamales I've had since I was a kid in the Southwest and the chilaquiles was fantastic. Alas, no churros (next time!) so we tried a few of the pastries and none disappointed. We were lucky to receive a hot, fresh loaf of french bread; it did not make it home - we couldn't help ourselves. read more

As other reviewers have said, it's cheap and fast and friendly. There are tons of tables in there, but in the two times I've been there, I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone sit down. There's a small area near the door with a few tables, and you can get free wifi via Time Warner for at least an hour. There was no tea when I was in there last, but there was coffee. I doubt any of the pastries are vegan, but they sure look good! There are churros with fillings, as well as other pastries that look more like Danishes and rolls. read more

I preordered a birthday cake for a nephew and it was not ready to for pick at the time we had arranged. It was upsetting because the owner tried to fault me by saying I didn't give them the time for pick up when I know I did and paid for it in full. The began on the cake when I arrived and I had to come back 1.5 hours later. I was late for the party, but they did make the cake. When we got around to cutting the cut it was the wrong filing. This cake was for a five-year-old and he cried when he didn't see chocolate inside his cake. If you order a cake from here, make sure you get a copy of the order form, for $85 and a half a sheet I would expect more. read more

Had those two accompanied me this morning to Panaderia I know what they would have said in unison. However, I would not even bring prisoners from Salvation's army here. Only one woman was sitting at a table while I stood at the counter waiting for someone to acknowledge me. I will not follow the lead of a lot of yelpers by detailing who did what and how often to offend me. Just turns out the lone woman was the employee who spoke no Ingles. There was no coffee at all and a few baked sugar topped bread like things of various shapes. I bought four and discovered they are similar to a hamburger roll with sugar. Glad to never return .
