When you hear mom and pop, hidden gem, this here is what everyone is talking about! I was randomly in New Albany and while on my way home towards downtown, I really needed a snack. After quickly discovering Spice Cup on Yelp, I bee lined it there as my tummy was rumbling something fierce. You'll find them tucked off Dublin-Grandview Rd in a small strip mall. There's also plenty of parking out front. I walked in to find a slightly outdated space that was adorned with all kinds of plants. If you know me at all you know plants and greenery are my favorite. A smile quickly spread across my face. Almost immediately, what I would describe as a grandma figure that you automatically want to just hug, emerged to answer my questions and even make suggestions. She pointed out her favorite treat and I snagged one up along with a croissant and a conchas. The price tag was insanely cheap and just like that I was on my way. All in all, if you're looking for authentic Mexican treats, you've found your place. A few of my items were a little dry, but I was there towards the end of the day, and they still hit the spot.

According to the website, this restaurant offers an abundant assortment of savory food including sandwiches, quesadillas, empanadas and tamales. Five of us arrived at 5:00 for dinner and there were no tamales and only two empanadas. We grabbed the last 2 empanadas and ordered some quesadillas and sandwiches. The food was really really good and if that's all there was to consider, I'd give this place a "5". However, the proprietress speaks very little English and it was really hard to communicate. One of us ordered sandwiches to go which she wanted to stay in the fridge until she left but she never managed to get that across. One of us asked for a glass of water but couldn't get one. A while later, another person asked for a glass of water and she did manage to get one. The other thing is that the prices on their website are WAY off. The website says empanadas cost 1.75 and quesadillas cost 3.50; yet, I was charged $13 for one empanada and one quesadilla. The proprietress did tell one of us that the prices were wrong but not until she actually paid. The prices are still quite reasonable but they should let people know in advance what things cost. I still don't know if they ever have tamales (did they just run out?) or if they're off the menu for good but there was no way to ask that and expect an answer. The actual restaurant is nice and big and clean.

They are cash only. The pastries section is self service. Could not find prices anywhere posted. Four pastries , two tamales and possibly the best black coffee in the Columbus area set me back $14.00 to go. The husband and wife team behind the counter were a true team working the growing line as a puttered through the pastry purchasing process. The tamales and coffee travelled well. Everything had been carefully packed to go.

This was one of the stops on our Columbus Food Adventures Alt Eats tour. If you look for it, you won't see a sign since we were told it blew off and they never bothered to replace it since their customers know where they are :). Look for the Kafi's Cafe sign! We were served some hot churros and OMG - they were AMAZING! I could have eaten 3, but needed to save space for our other stops. The pastries are a plenty and the prices very reasonable at about $1-$1.50 each. The pastries are light and fluffy and not super sweet like American versions. Definitely worth a visit because it is a hidden gem!

This was this week's Friday bakery pick. It is located at the end of the shopping strip. There is no sign with their name so I almost didn't know where they were. They are also a restaurant. The owner said that they started serving food about a year ago. The owners were super nice and showed me how to pick out the bake goods I wanted. He also went over each one and told me the ones that were just baked. They also brought out fresh goods for me to pick from. They were pretty busy and had already sold out of churros before I got there. They had only been open 2 hours. I got a variety of items. There wasn't anything that the group didn't like. One of the favorites was the cream puff and the coconut topped bread. They have guava turnovers and the donuts are dense. It was nice being able to sample this Mexican bakery. I can't wait to go back to try something else.

    Piping hot delicious churros!

Five stars for customer service and CHURROS!!! Are you a churro junkie? Perhaps you just moved here from Los Angeles and you can't seem to find a good churro? Well look no more my friend! Spicy Cup has your back! They were out when I stopped by so the owners wife asked the crew if they'd make me some fresh. So worth the 20 minute wait! Initially I asked for 3 but after trying one I came back for 2 more. Delicious, lovely churros right here in Cbus.

omg the filled churros!!! sooo good, i'd say even better than the ones I had in Mexico City. So annoyed that we only got 3 to try. Gonna get at least a dozen next time!

Since I reside on the Northside of Columbus, Spicy Cup Cafe & Bakery is part of my daily routine. Amazing Tamales Verdes. Great coffee. The vibe is great in the cafe too! Allows me the space & great vibe to get on my laptop with their wi-fi & work on my business projects. The Quesadillas are FUEGO too! If & when you are on the Northside, check out this hidden gem. No disappointments here.

Good selection of pastries. Currently serve yourself via tongs and a tray, which is way better than picking up with your hands. Had to wait a bit for service, but I suspect they're running with a small crew.

We were very intrigued by the rating 4.8 stars (highest in the area) and read some of the reviews…read more We also were initially concerned by the first impression of this place; the place did not look open nor did it have any other customers. But Jafet greeted us with a friendly and polite manner and gave us a lot of information about the Mexican version of the cuisine (surprise!). We were impressed with the Michelada (with mango chamoy and dusting of Tajin) and Mezcalita (Mezcal with pineapple). So good. Step aside, Margarita! (Also not that popular or usual in Mexico) We ordered the Tacos Dorado and the recommended Mexico City Taco ("House Special") that had steak, refried beans, pickled cactus, and fries, wrapped in corn tortillas. We are amazed. Thank you Jafet, we will back for more Friday tacos!

I pull up and the parking lot is empty. Hmmm. Looks like an old Rax roast beef spot. Inside it had a festive vibe with a Mexican mix tape playing over the speakers. The gentleman takes my order and grab a booth. He takes your order and makes your food fresh! Fajita nachos Al Pastor with a Victoria beer. The Victoria draft came out in a frosty mug and it was cold cold. Yes!! As I'm waiting for my food, more customers start coming in. Made me feel better lol. I swear the music playing is a recording of a DJ at a wedding lol. Out come the nachos and they look amazing. He also brings a little stand for my cell phone so I can eat and watch YouTube. Never have I had that offered to me at any restaurant. His hustle, service and smile was appreciated. The nachos were really good. The marinated pork, cheese sauce, fresh chips, chunks of pineapple, sour cream and salsa verde just came together well. Bonus points for the cheese sauce. Not to mention I watched him prepare everything thru the glass counter. He's back there having fun then brings your food out with a smile. Love it. If it were super busy I don't know how he would keep up, but I appreciate his hustle. Yelp, your recommendation didn't disappoint. This was different than your typical sit down, chips and salsa, margarita special, blah blah experience. This was Cozumel in June, cruising around in the side-by-side, Oh look a cool roadside taco spot with an open center courtyard type of vibe. Minus the open courtyard. Check them out!

While I was in Korea, I came across a story that stopped me in my tracks--one of those moments when…read morethe weight of someone else's experience hits close to home. Ricardo, a waiter at Cazuela's Mexican Cantina in Reynoldsburg, had finished serving a table, expecting the usual--a tip, a simple acknowledgment of his hard work. Instead, he received a hateful message scrawled on the receipt, the kind that cuts deeper than words should. Ricardo works at Cazuela's only on Sundays, a second job to help make ends meet. So today, in between my OCIA responsibilities, I decided to stop by--to meet him, to shake his hand, and to remind him that there are far more good people in this world than the ones who spew hate. As we talked, I saw a man who carries himself with quiet dignity, someone who simply wants to work hard and provide for his family. I shared with him that I, too, know what it feels like to be told to "go back to your country," even though, like him, I am an American. I told him about my childhood, standing in front of my family's Crestview Market, hearing the ugly chants from passing cars--some driven by kids I went to school with. But today wasn't just about reliving painful memories; it was about something greater--the power of community, of kindness that drowns out cruelty. When I arrived at Cazuela's, I wasn't alone. Others had also come to show their support, to stand with Ricardo. He told me the outpouring of kindness had been overwhelming, and I was relieved to hear it. Before I left, I handed him my WARM card and told him if he ever needed help, he could call me. Because no one should feel alone in moments like these. And, by the way, if you ever stop by Cazuela's, their enchiladas and Mexican rice are fantastic. The chips and salsa? Fresh and addictive. And my server, Isabel--attentive, kind, and everything a great waitress should be. Some people choose to spread hate. But today, I saw so many more people choosing love. And thats what matters.
