My dad was craving a Banh Mi sandwich and I found this place on Yelp while we were in the area. I called for order and noticed the reviews, we ordered a bbq pork Banh Mi, bbq chicken Banh Mi, fried rice with tofu, and hibiscus lemonade. When we arrived I noticed that we could dine in so we decided to just eat there. The set up is order from the counter and you take your number to your table and they come out and give it to you if you want to dine in. They have combination of southeast Asian food- Vietnamese and lao. It looks like this place is fairly new or if they moved because their sign is still brand new. The workers were nice and friendly and food came out pretty quickly. I want to try one of their soups in the future. They're located in the same plaza as 99 Ranch in Concord and Ohgane, next to the new Tasty Pot and Ujitime so if it's busy parking can be busy but it's not hard to find a spot. read more

WoW!!!!! So I happened to be in the area while working, of course as an yelp elite, I have to check places out here on yelp app, to see where the best food reviews are. So I was debating between sushi, dim sum and vietnamese food. Look at yelp, typed in Vietnamese food I believe, and Spicy Joi's popped up. So I said ok Banh mi for lunch it is. Followed the GPS, and took me to the wrong location, so called in and spoke to someone who guided me how to get there. I tell you what I don't regret coming here. This place is amazing, the whole setup is just chill. So I ordered Lemongrass Tofu Banh Mi. Got to meet the owner, but this is the first time I did not ask for their name. Any who, he was super friendly, down to earth kind of guy. The whole vibe in this place just feels like you want to get your food here. Well so took my Banh Mi, took couple pictures before I chowed it down. I was taken aback, by the first bite. I felt like a whole amazing flavor just exploded in my mouth. Never experienced it before where I had to paused and just really savor the flavor.. All I can say is "Dang" it's that good. I've had tofu Banh Mi before but this is by far amazing.. We've been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile now and happened to be in the neighborhood. The restaurant wasn't too busy on a late Saturday afternoon/early evening. Ordering was super easy at the counter. The staff were very friendly. We were excited to see Calicraft on tap and ordered a draft beer. For this visit we decided on the chicken laab, khaopiek and Lao sausage banh mi. The chicken laab was on the salty side for us (3/5). Probably wouldn't order this again. Khaopiek is my favorite noodle soup and hard to find a good one in the East Bay. The broth was plentiful aromatic, flavorful, garlicky with just the right amount of salt. I don't know if it was just my serving, but there were very little noodles in my order (4/5). The Lao sausage banh mi was by far our favorite dish of the trio. The bread was light, crisp and fresh. The Lao sausage to veggie ratio was on point. It wasn't too oily which some restaurants tend to do with the aioli/Mayo (5/5). We'll definitely be back for the Lao sausage banh mi! read more

Sadly, the outdoor seating was not clean (see photo) and bathroom stall didn't have toilet paper. Food: Flavor is good but chicken skewers were really oily. I visited for the first time tonight and ordered two banh mi sandwiches (#1 cold cut and #5 Lao sausage). I specified I wanted the non-spicy Lao sausage and asked that they skip the jalapeno peppers. Well, about the only thing they did right was they skipped the jalapeno peppers. The bread was very dry. They put way too much pickled vegetables in each sandwich. Most of the pickled veggies were carrots and they were extremely sweet, with little vinegar taste. The smear of pate in the #1 sandwich was so thin that I could not taste it in the sandwich. I had to take apart one half of the sandwich and remove everything except for the bottom piece of bread to see the pate. The only way I could taste it was to scrape it up with my finger and eat the pate by itself. The sausage they used in the #5 sandwich was SPICY! The restaurant was clean and well-lit. The order taker/cashier was friendly and polite. That's why I am giving this 1 star. The food deserves 0 stars. read more

Came here as the menu caught my eye awhile back. I had the khao soi and a sausage plate along with one of their beers. The khao soi was very mild and light although flavorful. It is not like a Thai khao soi that is more milky. I would compare this more to a pho-like dish. The sausage had a great texture. I wish it was a bit more flavorful, but the sauce that it came with was spicy and amazing. I devoured the sausage plate with that sauce. The beer by Asian brothers brewing was fun to try and I loved the selection of beers that they carried. Portions were generous and staff was helpful. Was having some expectations to try this restaurant, left with disappointment, & both of us have upset stomach. I ordered two soup noodles. I thought it would taste like traditional Lao food, but nah... First one was the curry chicken noodle, tastes alright but the ingredients are just so tiny, 1 to 3 pieces pork blood, some chicken, all noodle n broth, acceptable; To the chicken udon, this surprised us a lot, super super super salty, not to mention the ingredients, the broth texture is weird, so thick, which can be sauce that you can dip. May be this fish supposed to be like this idk. The udon, couldn't finish it, texture is way too soft, felt like it had been soaked overnight in the salty water. Not going to mention the services because they have really good business. Environment is ok, love the wall picture. You had me at pate. I'll admit I was skeptical. It's rare to come across Vietnamese fusion restaurants who actually do Vietnamese food well. But their dac biet sandwich is legit. It's made with the usual ingredients you'd expect, and of course Vietnamese butter/Mayo and pate. Definitely satisfies the craving. I love lao sausage. It's just so funky and sour with such interesting bits of chewy gristly stuff going on. I've been obsessed with it for like 10 years now and its just inaccessible enough that I am deeply excited when I see it somewhere. The lao sausage at Joi's is awesome and the plate which comes with sauce and some sticky rice is quite satisfying. But they're still figuring out things service wise and our banh mi and sausage plate took quite a while to come out. So they best move at the moment is to call ahead. Also, they gave us the wrong banh mi (tofu instead of chicken) and since we'd waited so long we didn't dare try to rectify it. We also ended up a bit hungry and went for another pork banh mi that was just ok. Really should have got a sausage banh mi. Or just another sausage plate. This was my first time trying Laotian food and it was a wonderful experience! First of all, the packaging is so charming. I ordered the BBQ Lemongrass Pork Sandwich and there was a darling doodle of pig on the wrapping paper. They also have stickers on the to-go boxes and cups. I thought that was a nice touch. The banh mi was so delicious. The bread was crunchy and the flavor was incredible. I look forward to ordering this again! I also ordered the Papaya Salad. I really enjoyed my meal here. My boyfriend and I got: - SAUSAGE COMBO - LEMONGRASS SKEWER COMBO - NAM KHAO The combo meals come with a choice of two sauces: Jeow Mak Phet (spicy) or Jeow Som (sour). I LOVED both of the sauces. I can't choose which one was my favorite because they were both so good... We preferred the Sausage combo over the lemongrass skewer combo, just because the sausage had more flavor and pungency from the herbs. Nam Khao was also really delicious. There were so many pieces of fermented sausage (Nam) in it. They gave Vietnamese coriander (rau ram) with it so you know it's the real deal. This is much better than next door neighbor Stix's rendition. PRICE: Serving sizes are a little more moderate to small, compared to Stix. You might find that a combo is not enough, especially if you are hungry! SERVICE: It's a very friendly and sweet Lao American couple that owns this place. I think they're trying to get used to things, so expect service to be a little slower. Even though we called to order and drove there 30 minutes later, we still had to wait 15 minutes in line to get our food. All in all, great food and good people. Quick update: We have had the Vietnamese noodle bowls the last couple of times we have been here, and my oh my! We had the bowl with the lemongrass marinated chicken skewers last time, which was delicious and satisfying. This time I got the lemongrass marinated tofu and my husband got the lemongrass marinated pork skewers. When we came up for air, we concurred they were both excellent. The bowl is packed with LOTS of yummy rice noodles and a ton of crunchy vegetables and fresh herbs. The citrusy-fish sauce dressing is really subtle and flavorful. They wrap up the crushed peanuts separately (to go order) so they stay crunchy. Nice touch! I have to say, I was amazed by the lemongrass marinated tofu. They have cast some magic spell and turned tofu into a textural, flavorful wonder. Seriously, I rarely get excited about tofu, but now I'm already planning my next Bahn Mi at Spicy Joi! This place deserves a try, if you're on the fence, JUMP OFF, and grab yourself some of the tastiest food in town. Ordered a lemongrass chicken banh mi and a pandan dessert for doordash. Banh mi was decent, one of the better ones in Contra Costa, however the bread didn't have the same crunch on the outside as ones I'm used to in Oakland. Their bread was a little more chewy but still filled my craving. The chicken was well seasoned and not dry at all, very happy with the chicken. Cilantro stems were long, which I personally don't like because you end up pulling a whole stem out with one bite and trying to put it the rest back in the sandwich. It's SO hard to find authentic Laotian food, but alas I think I've found it! And from what I can see, it has a clean kitchen. I used to go to Vientiane Cafe in Oakland, but they kept serving rotten food and their kitchen was SO dirty. We ordered the ultimate bomb platter, nam khao, larb, sakoo yat, pandan cakes, nam van and pad see ew (I only got 3 photos because we were so hungry). The larb was a little off, missing some spices. My husband and son got rice and chicken skewers. They have lemon ice water that is self served. The bill ended up being $30. I thought that was reasonable for good restaurant food. The place is very open and inviting. There's a beautiful mural on the wall. I got my bahmi sandwich omg! It was so delicious. I did not miss the meat at all. I was so delighted to see this place was new and was so excited to try it out! They are available for curbside pickup, which is a really great help for those who are trying to socially distance. The process online was fairly easy to order and they call you to make sure they get the order right. We ordered the bomb platter with medium spice, love is sweet trio, a BBQ lemongrass chicken banh mi, and a BBQ lemongrass pork banh mi. It was for 5 of us and we had leftovers. Everything was delicious. The papaya salad was the perfect spice for me. The pork rinds were crunchy, sausages were spicy and flavorful. The dessert was all very good. I wish it wasn't just a weekend special. They were sweet, but not too much and I love the coconut and sesame seeds on there. I only had the pork banh mi but I inhaled it.
