This is a very cute spot with two large communal tables and chairs to sit and chat (plus free wifi). There's a long refrigerator case of cheese for the turophiles plus an assortment of dry goods and snacks, plus several food books. I tried the black sesame cinnamon latte which was delicious and the carrot cornbread which was a dense but moist and sweet treat. I'm definitely bringing visitors here for a quick rest and snack next time I'm in the area. read more

Spitfire has a cozy little ambiance that can different get crowded if you come around noon. The employees are kind and the food comes out quick! I ordered the black sesame cinnamon latte which was delicious, but personally a little too cinnamony for me (especially since cinnamon tends to chunk up in cold drinks). I also tried their tuna melt which was pretty average in my opinion. It's a very no frills, standard tuna melt, but I would have liked for there to be some more variance in texture (maybe more of a crunch). Overall it was a fine tuna melt, I just happen to be very picky about mine. I would definitely come back with a friend and try a different sandwich! read more

This place is so cute and a great location to do some work. The matcha is great, especially with the fruit jam. I got grilled cheese with broccoli cheddar soup which was extremely cheesy and rich but soooo tasty and filling. The soup is so thick and you can taste the quality cheese. Love that they give a little side of goldfish for the soup. They do not skimp out so just a warning if you're lactose intolerant! read more

Love that it's customizable as some of the other places that feature to go boards are less curated to taste and I have specific tastes in cheese. Great to order one to take back to a small gathering. Everyone who works there is super helpful, and it really is starting to feel like a third space. There is a communal table for people to work or chill. Recently went here for the first time to pick up a few cheese options to take a friends house for dinner and wow. SO impressed. They have a lot of options and the staff was so helpful. I explained what was on our dinner menu and they suggested two that would pair nicely and travel easily. I loved the Gouda (Jake's Gouda) and the Willoughby which was a great one to take and eat the whole wheel. They also had an in house pimento dip made with old bay that I am dreaming about. I love this place so much. It took over the closed Hale and Hearty and it's been a welcome addition to the neighborhood. First off, their cheese selection is amazing and so are their charcuterie boards. I am not a fancy foodie, but I feel like one whenever I walk out with a selection of their cheeses. They also have these 'walking cheeses' at the cash register so you can try a few varieties for a couple dollars without committing to a larger block. Their grilled cheeses are amazing, and so is their merch! I wish they would come out with more baseball caps with cheese names on them, I have been hoping for a 'Brie' or a 'Gouda' to show up! read more

"Meats, cheeses, sandwiches, and various other goods!" Came here for an early dinner on a Monday evening a little after 5pm. Very bright store, with various meats, cheeses, and other goods around. Although there were no other customers at that moment, there were three people busily working behind the counter (slicing cheese or organizing items), but I was nonetheless greeted immediately and warmly. My friend recommended the ham & cheese, but since I don't eat pork, I ordered the corned beef & kimchi sandwich. The host was gracious to highlight for me which sandwiches were safe to eat for any dietary restriction (e.g., vegetarian vs. just-no-pork). It took maybe 8 minutes to get the sandwich, so I had time to browse about. They had a good but not enormous selection of cheeses. The host also let me try a piece of one of their newest cheeses (I forget the name), and it was almost unimaginably delicious! I was also impressed that they had lactase pills in a little bowl for anyone who needed them... very gracious for a cheese shop! I got the sandwich and took it back-- there's not really any seating inside. It was a good size for the price, and the beef was excellent. I expected more kimchi and kimchi-flavor, but I still enjoyed the sandwich overall. I'd happily come back and try other sandwiches there next time I'm in the area. read more

Spitfire is stellar. This is the greatest addition to our neighborhood. We live a 5 minute walk from Spitfire and we now go all the time. Our dog's picture is on the wall there! They have such fun and unique cheeses and meats, and they want to be your friends. Their coffee is great, and the people working there are even better! I have not had their sandwiches, but I don't know that you should. Instead you should go buy whatever meats and cheese you would like and make the best boards and sandwiches you possibly can. Such a fun addition to Hell's Kitchen. Spitfire is part cafe, part provisions store. I've been an enjoyer both! The cheesemongers are very knowledgeable and have helped my partner and I choose cheeses, offered suggestions on portions, and have given samples to try as well. Really appreciate the service here - have always felt welcomed. Outside of cheeses and meats, they have a wide assortment of pantry items too, from pastas to snacks to tinned fish. You can literally curate the perfect charcuterie board here. Finally, I am a big fan of their cafe - it's probably what I go to them for most! Their matcha is delicious and sourced from Kettl. Additionally, don't sleep on the sandwiches! The gabagool is my personal fave. read more

A good compromise for a Saturday morning. While out and about mid-morning Saturday, my two friends and I were thinking we should grab some breakfast of sorts. Of course we all lead different lives and are at different stages so for them it was perfectly fine to go to breakfast at 9:30. For me that's broaching lunch hour, and so it Goes we found the Spitfire cheese and Sundry shop. I ordered a panini made up of numerous cold cuts and I honestly don't recall what they got. Overall the Spitfire is not an exotic location by any means. I found out after I ordered that all of these sandwiches are pre-made which I am not a fan of. However they pulled it off, , and in defense of the pre-made sandwich thing I believe they said that they were made every morning at 6:00 a.m. or so. Anyway it was a good experience quick easy and not terribly expensive. We were in and out and probably 45 minutes and back to our Tour of Duty in visiting New York City read more

The first time, the service wasn't great -- I wanted to ask a lot more questions about the cheeses, but it was like pulling teeth to get information out of the guy behind the counter. The second time, service was much better -- much more helpful, much more friendly. But I can't quite tell if this place wants to sell cheese or sell coffee and sandwiches -- everything feels a bit awkward still. read more

I was looking forward to this space opening. It was the old Hale and Hearty Soups space which I went to frequently. It is a large square space well laid out. As you walk in there is the check out counter to one side and opposite this it a 9rectangular table for sitting as well as an L-shaped counter along the window area. There is a nice patterned rug on the floor. As you walk further into the space, there is a large cheese counter to one side and opposite this, there are things that you can purchase, cheese boards, hot sauces, etc. My friend and I went after running some errands. The staff is very accommodating. We looked at the selection of sandwiches they had to offer. I initially wanted the gabagool sandwich but they had run out of it. I decided on the tuna salad sandwich/panini which consisted of tuna salad with tahini, gouda, capers with mixed pickles on a sourdough pullman. It was placed in a sandwich press and came out all hot and gooey. It was delicious. My friend ordered the beef and kimchi sandwich which came with corned beef, raclette, kimchi, sesame ginger dressing on a ciabatta roll. She could only eat half of it and took the rest home for lunch the next day. It was an excellent lunch and a nice afternoon. They also feature grazing platters for large groups and 1-2 people can get a cheese board to split according to various themes, sweet tooth, life in gouda and in bloom. I want to gatekeep this place sooooo badly but I just can't. It's the best! The matcha jam is one of my favorite beverages of all time. They make the jam in-house, which is awesome, and their selection of dairy/other goods is incredible. There's also a big emphasis on shopping locally and supporting smaller dairy farms for the huge variety of cheeses they sell, which is so important and nice to see. Only been once so far. Nice spot with communal seating, good spot to catch up with friends sans alcohol (they have coffee). It's a high end meat and cheese spot with the meats and cheeses procured from a variety of regions. They will prepare a meat and cheese board for you to eat there or to go and I'd like to try that someday. Also with a wide variety of packaged items (chips, high end olive oils, clotted cream, duck fat, etc you get the idea). I personally had the tuna melt. The tuna had a nice dilly and was comforting. The melted cheese was gouda and complemented it well. The bread was perfectly crisp on the outside. A nice lunch, would prob pair it with their chips next time. read more

The coffee and matcha drinks are top notch (look at the color on that matcha!) and the sandwiches are seriously some of the best I've had (the Camem-beurre is something I dream about). Prices are amazing and the service is always friendly. I told my son if we lived in NYC I'd be here every day. So, I was very disappointed in this shop. I have to go into work pretty early and when I noticed they were open at 7am I was excited because I wanted to bring a cheeseplate with me to work. I walked from Penn station even, and got there with plenty of time to get to work. I walk inside and its very cute and had lots of interesting items in addition to the cheeses. I walk up to the counter and the young guy at the counter tells me that they don't start cutting cheese until 8am. Why would they open the store at 7am if they aren't going to be serving customers the product most people would be there for to buy? I understand he has nothing to do with that decision but I was a bit annoyed as I kind of wanted a break from Door Dash/Uber Eats outrageous fees. Had he been a bit more apologetic, I may have pivoted and grabbed a container of pimento cheese to take with me. I don't think I will stop by again. I'd rather give my business to a competitor that has premade cheese plates for people on the go. read more

Overnight a cappuccino went up in price $1??? Not 25 cents? Not 50 cents?? But an entire DOLLAR??? I've lived in the neighborhood 32 years and was recommending this new place because the prices were OK and they were nice people but everything across the board suddenly went up by huge amounts. Is it the economy which is supposed to be good or is it price gouging? I was recommending Spitfire to support a new local business. Not anymore. And no more patronage. i was in new york for a total of 4 days and i was here every day. the people working the counter were very friendly and polite. we got a 'nosh board' to snack on in the airport and it travelled pretty good, everything was good and went well together. the seasonal jam they have right now is really good and not overly sugary. the coffee was good and they had milk alternatives (soy, almond, and oat milk)! we would pop in early in the morning and it wasn't too busy and then we dropped in right after noon and it was nice and busy. the whole vibe in there was very cute and enjoyable. read more
