A brand new Rav-4 was purchased by someone in my immediate family only a few months ago. At only a few months old, the vehicle failed to start. The dealer was contacted and the soonest appointment that they could make to check the problem was 3 weeks out. Not acceptable. To top that, the car was dropped off the night before the appointment day, and the dealership tried to get out of looking at the car at all because it was "3:00 pm on a Saturday, and too late". It had been there all day as scheduled. They then gave some lame attempt to sound like they cared about what was causing the problem. Shockingly poor, rude, mismanaged and unconscientious business. You will not find me buying from them or buying a Toyota for that matter. read more

To explain, I purchased a used Nissan Sentra from Toyota Spitzer in Monroeville in May. The first week I had the car, I experienced a distant light that would come on and stay on. I figured it was malfunctioning so I took the car back to the dealer and informed the Salesman that I bought the car from. He told me to come in the next week to get my car looked at. I came in the next weekend to find that service garage was closed because everyone went home early for Memorial Day weekend. I then came in the next weekend and they told me that I needed to make an appointment. After going through all of that I called corporate to see if they could make something happen. The service manager called me to make an appointment. I came in to drop the car off, during the week. By this time we're in mid June. The service manager told me that they had to take the car to the Nissan dealer since they don't service that car there at their own garage. After a couple days had passed, the service manager called me and said that the distance sensor was damaged/malfunctioned and there was a missing plastic sheath that protected the sensor was missing. He told me to call me auto insurance company to file a claim so I can get the car fixed. I was puzzled because I didn't do anything to the car. So now we're in July. I called corporate about the issue and the secretary/assistant called the service manager to get his explanation. She told me that the service manager stated to her that I said I told him that I damaged my own car and that I waited too long to bring the car in to get serviced. I was flabbergasted. I never had someone say that about me. I asked the secretary what is going to be done about this and she did not answer me except to offer an apology to me and said it's my word against his. I never had an employee of an establishment LIE about me like that. There should be, at least, a very stern reprimand on the service manager and the secretary for taking no action. To summarize, the service manager at Toyota Spitzer in Monroeville lied about his customer to the corporate office and there was absolutely no response from them. This is how they treat their customers. I deserve a FORMAL (WRITTEN) APOLOGY from the service manager to say the least. I will not be back and I do not recommend to anyone. read more

I had a problem with the rear door of my Lexus. My door latch was stuck in the locked position and I couldn't get the door to shut all the way and lock. I would have taken it to Rohrich Lexus but their service department is closed on Saturdays! WTF?! Lexus of North Hills was too far so I figured I would try Spitzer Toyota since Lexus is made by Toyota. I pulled up Spitzer's website and it said that the service department closed at 4pm on Saturdays. So my wife, daughter and I were on our way to Spitzer. My wife had to sit in the backseat and hold the door closed because when I turned the door would swing right open. I pulled up to Spitzer at 2pm and figured I would be fine since they didn't close until 4. I was wrong! I was told that everyone in the service department left early to watch the Steelers, Ravens game that started at 4:30! Two and a half hours later! Seeing that my daughter was with me and still sits in the rear as she is too small to sit up front that someone who take a quick look at it but no. I was told to bring it back on Tuesday as Monday was Martin Luther King Day and they were closed. So I took a day off from work to take my car in. I had to tape the door shut to make it there. Thanks to my wife for suggesting it. I would have never thought to do it! LOL! As soon as I took the car in they took it to look at it and about 15 minutes later my door was fixed! So no one could have done this on Saturday! They did also offer to put a new set of current Pennsylvania Inspection stickers on my windshield as I didn't have my current ones on because I have a new windshield. $40 later ($20 to fix the door and $20 for the new inpection stickers.) I was off on my way. All in all the service was fine once I finally got it and they are much cheaper than Rohrich or Lexus or North Hills. read more

We stopped into Spitzer to look at a used explorer that was on there lot. We where greeted with a pleasant smile and where shown the explorer. We realized it was much bigger then what we where looking for. We owned a ford freestar van which was now to big for our needs and did not get very good gas mileage. The salesman then asked us to explain what it was we where looking for in our next car. We told him that we where looking for a smaller car with better gas mileage. We also explained to him we had a 500 foot driveway that was up hill and I had to walk up the hill in snowy weather. The van could get up most of the time if it wasn't to deep and my truck was not likely to get up until it was plowed. He proceeded to show us the new Rav4, Right on! This was exactly what we where looking for! The salesman was very pleasant and at ease, we never felt like we where being rushed into anything and he went out of his way to help us. First and foremost we scheduled an appointment for service had a 7 am appointment... when calling the service department at 12 noon they stated the car would be ready at 2pm... called back after 3 pm no answer. Called back 4 pm and they said the car was not even in to the garage yet. Long story short the vehicle never finished until 6 pm exactly when the dealer closed. .the service department did not even have the decency to call us instead they sent a text stating the vehicle was completed. Now I am home and it turns out that the services I requested did not get completed. Why offer a complimentary service if you are not going to complete it fully?Terrible service and will not be returning and will be letting all friends and family know about the horrid service department. The lack of drama that came with this experience was refreshing. I didn't have to haggle over the price of the vehicle (it was priced exactly between clean retail and clean trade-in). The sales representative, Gary, greeted me before I even walked in the door and at no point tried to force a sale. The "Finance Guy," Ben, found me the best deal that matched my payment options and found me the best APR with my sub-par credit. I was already a huge fan of Toyotas, just based on their reliability, affordability, and the fact that any mechanic can fix a problem cheaply and effectively should one occur. Having been in car sales for several years, I can 100% say this is the worst dealership I've ever dealt with. I was looking at a 2018 Camry SE they had listed on Autotrader for my wife and infant son. I called in and spoke with their salesperson, Tyler. I'd asked him to look over the car for scratches, dents or any damage, and since my baby would be in that car often, asked if the vehicle was smoked in. I wanted to know beforehand because I was coming from 3.5 hours away (which I told him), and Tyler assured me the vehicle was clean, had no issues, and had not been subjected to any smoke. So, I drove down today with my truck and trailer, ready to buy on the spot and haul the car home, but that did not happen. When I arrived, Tyler pulled the car up. As I looked over the vehicle, I noticed damage on the front bumper, scratches down to primer all over, one wheel was damaged, the seats were stained, the dash was all scratched up, and to top it off, the interior smelled clearly like cigarette smoke AND had a burn hole in the front driver seat. Inside the glovebox had all the previous owner's information (temp tag, insurance ID card, and registration). This is incredibly unprofessional, as I was told the car had just been "detailed". Detailed being an understatement, as the front still had bug guts caked. A blind person could've done a better job detailing that car. I asked him why he told me the car was clean and had no problems over the phone and now has all these obvious issues. He said the car was dirty at the time of our call and didn't notice any of it, which is ridiculous based on what I saw in person. The white scratches stood out clear as day next to the blue paint, which you'd be able to see even if the car was dirty, and the chunk missing from the bumper wasn't hard to miss at all. Once the manager, Jamie, came over, I walked around the car and showed him the damage I was told didn't exist, and expressed how unhappy I was to have driven 3.5 hours to find out I was lied to, just to sell the car as is. His response was, "Well, to most people, this is a clean car." I can tell you, as I was both a new and used car salesman myself, that is NOT true. Jamie was acting as if there was nothing wrong with the situation, trying to persuade me that the level of deceit was in my head, and that there was no real problem that Tyler had lied about everything prior to my drive down. Since I had spent a good amount on gas and toll to get there, I'd asked Tyler if he would be willing to drop the price, so I could get the damage fixed. Tyler responded with, "I don't care. I don't get commission on the vehicle anyway, but I'll ask." As you can tell by this review, I did not leave with the car. I'll keep looking, and I strongly recommend going elsewhere for your next vehicle purchase, as well. read more

They are okay. I like them I have had really fantastic experiences in here in the past, but the last year or I had used them I noticed they weren't quite on par to what I was used to. They're still okay. They do have good mechanics, service and sales, but it's a little more hit and miss than it used to be. I'd still use them, honestly, though-- I've used them for years and have only had a couple off situations. They used to be pretty quick, and even gave me a pretty good discount on an expensive repair for my car a few years back which I was really grateful for, and had it replaced and ready by the end of the next day. I've had some quick and easy oil changes and maintenance work, too. Another one of our cars serviced there they didn't pressure repairs, but took me back to show me what was wrong so I knew what I was working with. So they absolutely have some good service managers and techs. But I've had some challenges and not as positive experiences, too. I had the cat converter go on my old car (assumed that to be the case before I took it in). They told me they could not reuse the muffler I had put on only a year prior there so I had to replace the exhaust from the cat back. They didn't have the parts in stock. So it would be repaired until the next day. Then I get a call the next day, the part that arrived but was damaged and they had tried to get it on but they couldn't. So I was two days with out a car. And anyone whose replaced the majority of the exhaust system knows that's not a cheap repair either. They've done good work, but this was a little off putting of an experience. Though the damaged part was not their fault, leaving me two days with no loaner was not exactly fun or easy. The service manager was apologetic at least and was nice, and did the best he could with what he had I think. I ended up buying a newer car from them eventually-- was between a couple cars on their lot actually. The sales person was fantastic-- I didn't have an appointment and she juggled me in and didn't leave me hanging at any point so I am very pleased with that process. Would have liked a little better price, but it was still within blue book considering and worked with my budget to get me something I could afford, so I can't totally complain-- that's about average for a dealership in my experience. The process itself was great, and I would consider buying a car from them again as far as the process goes. The only issue I had with this process is I purchased the extended warranty at the suggestion of a family-member who's a mechanic. And I specifically asked the financial person when doing the paper work if I could use it any where or if I had to bring it into them to be serviced. I was told it was good anywhere. I got the card, and the policy very clearly states I have to take it to their facility first for the policy and get the dealership to "okay" any repairs that are done outside of a xx mile radius. It is what it is, but I just don't know why they didn't explain it like that when I asked. The service department though is what left me less than thrilled the last visit-- I had a check engine light come on a couple weeks after purchasing the car. When I called to make an appointment to bring it in, I was told "oh it's probably the gas cap" and to drive around a while to see if it goes off. Well, I got the code read on the way home-- was not the gas cap. Engine code. When I brought it in I had a different service manager -- had to drop it off the night before to be looked at the next day-- which was fine/expected. But I was filling out the key drop and was taking a second to write the "symptoms"/issues on the key packet. He saw I was writing down information on it and interrupted me and kind of rushed me... stating I didn't need to write anything down. That was off putting. When I has asked about how they do the repairs (i.e. if they can't fix i there) the service manager was kind of snippy with me and a little rude. I didn't think I was rude or angry, so I'm not sure what elicited that response-- I just assumed it was because I was there at the end of the day, and they had a bad day. They fixed the issue in a day, and gave me a print out with what the tech did to ID it, so I can't complain I guess, communication was good and the same service manager was much nicer, but my initial interactions were a little off putting. All in all, they are okay-- every place you'll have good and bad and it may not be "awesome" every single time. They're all people and may be having a bad day, and many of them are very customer oriented. More often than not they've been good, but there's just a few situations that were "meh" in nature. read more

I have to update my review of 5 stars on 4/20/13. As of today, 9/2/13, I still don't have a title or registration for the 2013 car I bought on 4/20/13. I have called and stopped by Spitzer about a dozen times and they keep blaming PA DMV for being slow (4 months, this is absurd). I finally called the PA DMV last month, and they have no records of the car, in my name or anyone else. The VIN does not exist in PA. I've gone back to Spitzer last week and they still claim that it is a "different department within DMV" that handles it because they switched the car. So they may be great while you're buying the car, but don't expect anything even if they screwed up. read more

Scheduled an appointment over the phone with a really nice lady who said that if the car I intended to see was sold, she would contact me. I found out the night before my appointment, that the car was no longer available as a result of my own research online. The day of appointment, Spitzer called me 1 hour before my appointment letting me know that the car was unavailable. It was not a convenient location and I wish they would have called me earlier. As a result I decided not to do business with them. read more

My family has owned many Toyotas in their lifetime. I have been to three different Toyota garages and each of them were in a different state. By far Spitzer Toyota garage is the worst experience I have ever had. The first time I visited just for an oil change and it took 2 hours! The second time I visited for new break pads and it took almost 3 hours AND on top of that they broke the cover off of the top of my car rack! I take my car into the garage to get it fixed and it comes out with a piece missing. This is not OK and I will never ever go there again!! read more

I had a horrible experience in buying my car. I visited the lot two weeks before the day I bought it and was helped by new saleswomen. Amber was an amazing sales rep as was the other young woman who's name escapes me. They made sure to get keys for all the vehicles I was interested in. They allowed me to sit in each vehicle and told me the good and bad points of each. They explained the features in depth as well. Amber made sure I stayed within my budget and gave me several tips as to what to look for as a first time driver. I was also told the prices of the cars were negotiable. I considered purchasing the vehicle that day. However, upon entering the floor where the Finance reps and other salesmen were located, Amber and the other sales woman were told that the men were "too busy" to help them. It should also be noted that I was contacted to come to Spitzer lot to see a car that was sold more than likely the same day that the Internet Representative contacted me about the vehicle. When I got to the lot I could not locate the car and while the ladies said they could help find it and/or that they knew where it was the White Toyota was no where to be found. I was directed to view other cars instead. An apology would have been appropriate for the car not being there. Regarding my actual buying experience, as stated in the beginning it was horrible. When I returned to the lot my boyfriend and I looked at the cars I remembered. I decided to buy the 2008 Honda based on sitting in the vehicle during my last visit. My boyfriend had to find someone to assist us in buying the car. Salesman Ken Marsharky came to "help me" but did not even mention that he could get keys for me that I may test drive the vehicle. He did not state that I could sit inside it. Ken would only talk about money, at which point he told me the price was non negotiable. This news was a complete contrast from what I was told by Internet salesman and the saleswomen. Ken told me when I decided to purchase the vehicle I would have to make a 200.00 dollar payment. There was no real explanation as to what this charge was for. I gave him my debit card anyhow. Ken somehow managed to charge me for EVERYTHING in my entire checking account down to the last cent. 438 dollars plus change was on hold at Spitzer when I woke the next morning. I spent two hours talking to my bank and the day time manager while I was at work attempting to get my account resolved. I decided to buy the car anyway but I found out later that my bumper to bumper warranty was not included in the financing on my second trip Spitzer to buy the car. I came with my Aunt who when asked about the warranty being included, Ken stated that my credit union would not finance it. I later found out that what he stated was a lie. If the warranty charges would have been included in the price for the vehicle my credit union would provided a check that would include the charge. My Aunt was furious by Ken's dismissal of her concern as well as the lie. The finance manager and the lot manager then came to smooth things over. At which point I was told by the lot manager that he would get me a zero percent interest bumper to bumper warranty as though it was a great deal. As the warranty was not going to be financed of course there would be no interest! I now have to pay out of pocket for my bumper to bumper warranty each month on top of the car payment and car insurance. I am not sure how I am going to afford it and will most likely have to cancel. it. I had to return to the dealership a third time to sign documents and get my license plate as the computer's were down the day I brought the check for the car. I also was given the impression that Ken was more concerned about "getting home after 5pm" as possible. He asked me to leave work early to buy the car. I am a first time driver and I feel as though I was taken advantage of by Ken Masharky as well as the evening manager there. I will never buy another car at Sptizer Monroeville and I have advised everyone who has asked me about my car to NEVER go there to buy anything unless they had no other choice. And if they did go, I tell them to only work with the young women there. Finally, I was told by the customer service representative I was going to be expecting a call from a manager about my experience. No one else has contacted me and based upon by complete buying experience I am not surprised. Update: I was called by the warranty company that is affilated with Spitzer two days ago and was told that the warranty I was sold DOES NOT EXIST. The finance manager was supposed to follow up with me to offer a solution and never did. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM SPITZER TOYOTA. read more

This is the second car I bought from Doug at Spitzers. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a third fourth fifth and the rest of my cars from Doug! He has never steered me wrong! This car was for my daughter. Doug checks on how my car is doing,if everything is going ok and if there is anything he can do for me to let him know. I have never had a salesman treat me so good in my 44 yes of life! I absolutely love the fact that he checks on the car to make sure everything is going ok and if I had any problems to let him know. I have also text him about questions I had about my car and he always gets back to me with an answer and if he has to do research to find out the answer and gets back to me within that day. I've never been more pleased and more impressed with the service and personal experience that I've been shown by Doug! I won't hesitate to come back and will definitely be back prolly next year to get my husband a car next! Thanks again Doug and keep up the awesome work! read more

I will never return to this place. I made an appointment for a "free" inspection ( which had always been free because my car was registered in a county that did not require emissions testing). This past year I changed my address and was surprised by the emissions test fee of approximately $50. When charged upon check out, I questioned the fee, frustrated because I hadn't budgeted for this expense, but handed the lady my card and signed the papers. (I never did get the explanation about the fee) As I went to leave she shouted, "attitude gets you nowhere!" I've never been more offended. Folie was rude and scheduled an appointment to fix window trim. She was short on the phone and pushed to avoid explanations saying we were all set. We knew that we needed a part for replacement and even after asking again she confirmed we would be good. We wasted 1:30p-2:45p on a Saturday waiting for our car to be serviced only to have them come tell us that they did not have the part and they did nothing with the car. Incompetent and bad customer service. Unappreciative of people's time and understanding that people outside of the industry also know a thing or two about cars.... like ordering parts. Doug Klenoshek was amazing to work with! He helped in every aspect from researching to finding a car that had exactly what I wanted ( which was a long picky list!) to even helping me weeks after the sale. Doug has an outgoing yet easygoing personality which was important to me. I don't want to feel embarrassed to ask a question, and I want to have a fun, positive experience. I even recommended him to a friend who was having a terrible experience at another dealership, and she felt the same way after her sale with him as her dealer. He takes the stress out of buying a new car, and I even enjoyed shopping for one. After my car had arrived at the lot and was ready to take home, Doug spent an hour and a half teaching me how to work everything. Not because he had to spend that long, but because he sensed my uneasiness about all of the amazing yet intimidating technology that my new Prius has. I doubt many salespeople would do this because I assume that most want to get back inside and make another sale. He took the time to help me until I was satisfied and confident. This is my third purchase from this exact dealership. This time, though, was a much better experience. I can't even remember the other dealers' names because they were typical. Doug, however, feels like a friend now. Went to get my car inspected after I started to hear a light clunking noise coming from my wheel when turning the steering wheel When I arrive for my appointment everything seemed fine, however 4 hours in they tell me that I have a problem with my EPS and that my car is VERY unsafe to drive since some parts could break with a simple pothole and it would take 3500$ to fix it... they went to the extent of telling me that my car was so bad that the "mechanic didnt feel safe doing a road test so he drove it in the lot." I dont know a lot about cars and the car is on the older side (09)therefore i didn't want to just spend that much money on it. I decided to get a second opinion. When i told the receptionist this she took forever return my car to me. And when she gave me the keys she kept trying to tell me how unsafe it was and how careful i needed to be because if "something just broke, itd be a terrible accident". This terrified me so i went straight to get a rental while i got the 2nd opinion. Turns out there is nothing wrong with the EPS or anything. Yes there is a noise coming from my rack and pinion but it is due to the cars age. There isnt anything functionally wrong with it, no need to replace the part or really any part of the car. Spitzer tried to tell me my EPS was completely useless, if it is bad it shows a code on the computer, which it didnt. And the other mechanic found no evidence of parts that were weak or could "just break" he also found no reason as to why they would say the car isnt safe to drive. They basically tried to scam me off 3500. Save yourself some time and stress and just go somewhere else. read more

I found trustworthy folks in the Albuquerque Toyota dealership (Larry Miller), as well. Always happy with the staff and service at both dealerships! DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF. I would give 0 stars if that was an option. I was told I needed around $800 of brake work to pass inspection. I went to another place for a second opinion and I was told I needed a right front marker bulb and thats it. They said my brakes were fine and nothing needed replaced. Spitzer missed the light bulb that needed replaced but made up of bunch of brake work that didn't actually need done. They cannot be trusted. If you want a honest trustworthy place like we all do I am warning you DO NOT take your vehicle here. If you want to continue to go to a Toyota Dealer I recommend the one in Greensburg. I use to go there because of where I worked and was always treated great. I will be going here to purchase a Tundra in the next few months now instead of Spitzer. PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP AND GO TO JD! My fiance and I were looking to buy a newer used car, as our 2000 Chevy Prizm is about to kick the bucket. We are a young couple that have went just about everywhere else and were denied a vehicle because we have not established credit. I am so glad we stopped here to look at a car we had saw, because the staff has went above and beyond to get us an awesome deal on a car suited perfectly for our family. My car is under warranty. I booked appointment over phone and confirmed if there are any charges for inspection and they told me NO charges for car under warranty. At the time of service,they told me to change Rotor and brakes and its not covered under warranty. They quote me $473. I said NO and they asked me to pay inspection fee $54 which is ridicules. They have not done any work. Whats use of warranty if u even have to pay for inspection. I raised my concern to service manager but same response. I will never return to this Toyota service center.
