Incredible hidden gem! Don't let the outside (from the parking lot) fool you. The main entrance is where the green "shop entrance" sign is. The restaurant is huge, and has a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. My husband and I spent 3 days in Gatlinburg and found it on our last day. As vegetarians, we found it very difficult to find anything to eat besides pizza and Mexican. Took a chance on Split Rail based on some good reviews and we're thrilled with our choice. I had the Greek burger with a veggie patty, plus the cucumber salad. We shared cheese curds and my husband had the Philly cheese "steak" using jackfruit. Super quick and friendly service and we got all our questions answered. The price point was reasonable. Next time we're in town we will be back!! read more

The ambiance was very chill and super clean. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. You order at the counter and then have the luxury of picking your own seat. This place is a lot bigger than we anticipated. It wasn't too busy, but we went at 5:45pm on a rainy Wednesday. The food was quick to come out and very hot and fresh. We got Fried pickles, the Chicken sandwhich, and the taco tater bowl. We ate those in house and everything was great. We took home some banana pudding, and a hearty slice of carrot cake. Both were absolutely phenomenal. We are on a mission to find local restaurants and not fall into touristy places while we are visiting down here. Tried a new place while on vacation and would definitely recommend Split Rail Eats to anyone! The atmosphere is very cool and clean. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. They have a wide menu so there is something for everyone. I enjoyed the cheeseburger bowl with tots and would definitely order it again! My husband ventured out from his usual burger and fries and ordered the Jacked Turkey. It was very tasty and the addition of the apple butter was unique and scrumptious. They also have a wide drink menu and a self serve tap beer wall that is very unique. The music they had playing on the radio was just to my liking as well. A 'Wowser' eatery tucked away on the art gallery route. First, a shout out to Abigail - such a friendly and knowledgeable server. Tami enjoyed the grilled chicken sandwich with good fries. I chose the best chicken salad sandwich I have ever encountered. At Abigail's suggestion, I had it on wheatberry toast that added a nice sweetness. My side was a spectacular cucumber salad. Oh so good. BBUT..the star of the show was 'The Beer Wall'. A wall of a dozen beer taps, each clearly describing the libation. With a chilled pint glass you pour your own and the machine(s) record the amount on your ticket. I've seen similar dispensing with wine but not for beer. Very cool! read more

DINE IN THE QUIETER AREA OF GATLINBURG Came for dinner while staying in the Arts and Crafts district in Gatlinburg. It's a casual restaurant where you order and pay at the counter and then find a seat inside or outside. The woman taking our orders was very friendly -- give her a raise! I highly recommend their 'Wall of Beer' where you can get an electronic bracelet, scan and then try any amount of any of the beers on offer. Great for people that don't want a full pint or want to try several different beers. The woman on the cash desk kindly came and told us how it works, although it's pretty simple. Pay and return your bracelet after dining. Along with a beer, we enjoyed a burger and fries which were excellent. You could tell the burger was flavorful and a 'real burger'. You walk by and wonder what you're getting into being apart of some business apartment whatever. Once you walk in you are like wtf and floored by decor and hospitality. A must to go back to. When we were there, it was perfect weather, and we could hear a musician playing guitar and singing. Talk about chill. The vibe walking in to Split Rail is modern and cool. The menu is on large digital screens, and current, because we saw one item listed with a SOLD OUT next to it. The chill vibe continues on the other side of the screen, as it becomes shelves with an eclectic mix of knickknacks. Here you'll find couches, a modern gas fireplace, and more seating for quiet dining. The regular dining area provides ample seating as well. Our party of three has diverse tastes. Hungry Man ordered cheesesteak with fries. He eloquently described it as "pretty good" and ate all of it. The fries could have been crispier. Our chicken lover tried the Chicken Salad sandwich, declared it tasty, and nibbled on the fries. Our NoGlutenFreak chose the veggie wrap sans wrap with a side of cucumber salad. The veggie filling lacked flavor, despite the promise of caramelized onions and other lush ingredients. It appeared overcooked. The cuke salad was quite tasty, served in a cup that held half a cuke at least. Were I not traveling, I'd have taken that yummy dish home to finish later. So good. When you get close, look for a large wooden sign along the street that says: Covered Bridge in The Glades. My Mexican tater tot bowl was delicious. The peppers were slightly hot. I added ground beef for an extra $5. Dining companion had a house salad with chicken and was very pleased. The complex that houses this restaurant actually looks like a condo building with retail on the bottom. The restaurant entrance is within the courtyard area. The menu is extremely creative and the three lunches that we ordered were all excellent including the sides. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. There is something for everyone on the menu and they have a full bar as well. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the place was clean and inviting. It kind of feels like a diner and a beer den had a baby. I guess because that's exactly what it is! Lots of food options, great happy hour specials, plus a self-serve beer wall! This was particularly enticing. Several options to choose from plus a cocktail. My friend ordered the pretzel bites with beer cheese and I had the Gringo Wrap with tots. Delicious! Loved all the flavors and texture of the wrap and the tots were crispy. We dined and drank by the fireplace which we loved. It was rather dead when we came in, not surprisingly as it was mid-afternoon on a Tuesday. The staff is so nice! The gentleman that helped us was super sweet and welcoming. My favorite part was the beer wall! So cool! You get a bracelet, grab your own glass, pour your own beer, and are charged by the ounce, which is on special during certain happy hours. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Split Rails Cafe, and I must say, the atmosphere is fantastic! The couches and fireplace create a cozy ambiance that makes it a perfect spot to relax and unwind. As for the food, I decided to try the American plate, which came with eggs, sausage, home fries, and homemade toast. Although it wasn't the best I've ever had, it was good enough. The French toast looked tempting, but I didn't have a chance to try it. However, I think it's worth noting that the prices for the food are a bit steep. I ended up spending $19 for breakfast with OJ and coffee. The food hovers between 3.5-4 stars. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming, but I did encounter a few who were just okay. Despite this, I wouldn't rate Split Rails Cafe as a 5-star place for food, but I would give them a 5-star rating for its beautiful decor and cozy atmosphere. If you're looking for a charming spot off the beaten path to relax while grabbing a bite, this cafe is worth a visit. One star deduction for food quality and the attitude of some staff members, but this is not in reflection of the entire staff plus steeper than it should be food prices. read more

Visited this restaurant while we were visiting the Art District in Gatlinburg. I was pleasantly surprised. The inside is the restaurant offers plenty of seating options including a cozy couch area. There's also plenty of outdoor seating as well. Perfect for small or large groups. Our food tasted good, absolutely no complaints at all The service was amazing. Since it was our first time, we were a little indecisive, do the staff helped us decide. They continued to check on us throughout our visit and even gave us tips on fun things to while we're in town. The restaurant is located in a residential/shopping center. However, most of the other shops have closed down. Only a handful of shops are still open and most of them close fairly early. Luckily, Split Rail Eats stays open until 9pm. read more
