I love that this cafe exists by the LA river in Elysian Valley! My husband, daughter, and I took a 10 minute walk down the LA river to check it out. We had been here in the past when they had snacks and coffee drinks. The cafe ambiance is very relaxing and full of beautiful succulents. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. My husband had the egg sandwich. It was soft, savory, and well seasoned. There's a sandwich that a similar at eggslut and I think the one at Spoke tops it hands down! He gobbled it up so fast I only snuck a bite and wanted more. The ricotta toast I had was very light yet filling. The roasted tomatoes added a nice acidity. My daughters hemp granola yogurt bowl was filled with fresh berries. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience there and consider this now our spot! read more

Amazing!!! Little cafe & bike rental place together on the LA River not far from freeways and Elysian Park!! Wow what a great place!! You can rent bikes for all ages! I honestly didn't see much staff around but it's all good cause we felt free to walk around and explore. If you walk down the LA River to the right out of the gate at Spoke, a few feet down the river is LA River kayak Safari so that's also something close by to check out if you aren't from around town. Good vibes here and obviously good people! Nice place to relax, Succulents everywhere, tables with shade, bar facing the LA River & like I mentioned before bike rentals for all ages!! Food was amazing the staff could be more friendly. We had the beet veggie burger and tofu scramble which were equally delicious. I would recommend trying that burger it is one of the best veggie patties I've had. Tofu scramble was made perfectly and was left fluffy an light. The toast the gave with it was very tasty as well. The outdoor seating area was nice and welcoming. It had a typical hipster aesthetic like most places in silver lake now. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the people working here were not very welcoming and seemed like they could care less about you. read more

Per reading the Yelp page, Laurie (I presume you are the owner), I hope you read this review. This is in regards to the bicycle shop and repairs and not the cafe which I cannot comment on. I asked the gentlemen behind the desk if I can borrow a 8 hex key to quickly re-tighten a loose bolt on crankset. --Very unprofessional, disrespectful tone and flat out refusal for simple request. --I quote he said "No, you cannot borrow a tool it would go against our business model!" --A legitimate bike shop (not saying your shop isn't, but this employee probably is incompetent) would have no issues lending a hex tool for 5 minutes to a rider to tighten a loose bolt ON THE SPOT. --ESPECIALLY since this shop is the only one near the vicinity of a popular path where mechanical issues can happen. This staff member obviously is unclear of the culture of cyclists who help each other out. Especially when it comes to borrowing a SMALL hex tool for a quick tightening. If it was a flat tire fix (which I can fix myself), then sure I would pay for parts/labor. Extremely disappointing. This employee was working around 10:00 AM Saturday. This is hands down one of my favorite places in LA. For cyclists - plenty of bike parking, and you don't need a lock because all the seating is where you can see your bike. There's a repair shop with great swag selections too. In the past, they've been down to host community events when the cycling community has asked. One of the many reasons I love this place. Not a cyclist? You can rent a bike here! OK... not into bikes? Still my favorite brunch spot in LA. Amazing vegan options and amazing non-vegan options. Most places can't hit both notes with excellence. The soft bun breakfast sandwich and their breakfast potatoes are to die for. I also always try to replicate their farro bowl at home but my effort falls short. Now - we're in a pandemic- things have changed quite a bit- but they're still open for the socially distant community and serving up great food, coffee and beers to go. The coffee was just okay. The decor and ambiance is cool and I like the bicycle theme. When I went they made you order inside right by the bathrooms and it's really gross because it smells like the bathroom. It's also pretty crowded to order because it's such a small space. Another thing is they don't ask your name so it's confusing to know whose latte is up when it comes out. Not really worth it for me but I'd be willing to give it another try read more

Been here several time (at least 20) mind you it's close to my job; other places that serve alcohol aren't open till 4pm (when this place closes appx) so I sometimes don't have a choice since I don't drive. Food is good; customer service sucks. I placed an order online in the past and online order was wrong it was double the order-I called to ask for a refund on half the order and no one called me back. Every time I come her I feel like the staff is inconvenienced by you trying to place an order. They are constantly talking to each other (employees). You're second in priority. So many flies around it's kinda hard to enjoy the nice atmosphere. Another reason I come here is the river is kinda cool. Would I recommend this place. Not really. Felt like one really great guy in the kitchen but a poorly run and kinda dirty. I really wanted to like it but the 'attitudes and the bugs were a killer. Sorry. There are just too many better options in Atwater...and frogtown. Ps - for the defender of local businesses. Yes. Fly control can be tough. But the servers really hurt the experience the most. I love our neighborhood coffee shop! Not only do they have great coffee and pastries you can also get your bike serviced here too. So if you've been biking on the path and need a quick break this is your spot to go to! I'm so excited that they will be offering an extended menu soon and selling beer too. I just had their open faced ricotta and egg toast with tomato, and it was delicious. I've also had their waffle fries that were great and their avocado and tomato bagel with cream cheese that I recommend too. Looking for a good bagel? They got you covered here! Where did the avocado go on my avocado toast? The way they make it now it should be called arugula toast ! I raved to my daughter about how good the avocado toast is here but she said there was barely an avocado on it so I took a look under all the arugula and found a very thin layer of green stuff it looked more like a spread like the way mayonnaise and mustard is spread on a bread I guess it was avocado but couldn't taste it . It was disappointing because it's not cheap and I expect at least half an avocado on it for the hefty price . I hate it when a restaurants starts to slowly get greedy , less but same price . Other places put loads of avocado and that is why it's called " avocado toast " our cappuccinos were cold and it was hard to catch one of the servers attention too busy . read more

This place is fantastic for the overall ambiance. We stopped by here after biking along the river trail and we were able to pull right up to the cafe and park our bikes - what's not to love about that! The food is very tasty and staff is friendly, but is a bit on the pricier side. That being said the ingredients used to make the dishes are all very fresh and have a unique flavor in this hipster's heaven. This is also a great spot to just grab a beer and relax. Good food, location, and events. However, the stand-in-line for thirty minutes to order while you get hit with the doors on either side, then try to find a seat (and sometimes have to sit on a bucket you find in the back) and eat off your lap while you swat flies is not a comfortable arrangement. This venue would improve immensely if they provided wait service and did something to ameliorate the weather and bugs. At least then it wouldn't seem obnoxious for the payment system to suggest a 15-25% tip when they don't provide nearly the same service/convenience as most restaurants. I tried to ameliorate the horrible inconveniences of my previous visits by calling in my order for pick up, but still had to wait in line to pay and tip while I watched my food get cold. It was a good thing I was going back home this time so I could microwave it, as well as the freshly made coffee that simply wasn't steamed or filled enough. I would've appreciated if they had at least filled the one-size cup (roughly equivalent to a Starbucks tall for the price of a Venti, but not even filled). The potential here is great, but the details often become seriously inconvenient or outright obnoxious. If you're riding your bike on the river trail, it's great to have a conveniently placed stop. If you're going out specifically to eat at a restaurant, this is more likely to become an uncomfortable than great experience. Hipsters seem to love it, but they're intentionally ironic ‍ read more

We waited 40 min for our food on a Thursday morning with 6 other customers. They really need to pull it together. 3 stars because food is great when it's cooked right. First time getting lunch here during my bike ride. My experience echoes some of the reviews about the slow service. I ordered a grill cheese sandwich, and i waited just about half an hour for it. To top of off, they forgot to include the egg I added, with extra money. I just couldn't be bothered with more waiting so I just didn't say anything. They can have my $1.50. This was on a Wednesday around noon, def not at full capacity. The sandwich tasted good to be fair, but it's not worth the 30min wait. Pretty sure I'll be exploring other options in the area next time, and there're a lot of them. read more

What a real shit show this was! We (four people total) came to the bike rental portion of the cafe to get a couple bikes and do a loop around the trail as you do (and as you are encouraged to do, given the name of the cafe.) The bike mechanic working there was a LUNATIC!!! I started recording at one point because I couldn't believe the way he was speaking to us. He was clearly stressed out as there were no other employees (just plenty "we're hiring" signs..) but he basically told us "it's hard to multitask and fix this guys bike AND rent you guys bikes, there's only one of me, if you want to rent bikes walk over the cafe portion of this place and ask the manager for permission, then come back here and rent a bike, I don't know, there's only one of me, you can't expect me to be able to do all this" My first instinct was to laugh, because this guy didn't even say hello, just started his tirade. So we listened to him, walked over, waited in line, asked a manager to help us, they said nothing but "yes", so we confusingly walked back to the bike guy, who said "them saying yes doesn't mean anything to me", so at this point we are blown away by how useless and inefficient everyone is and leave, when a quiet manager or owner came out to help us. Three other parties were not as patient as us and left. I don't blame them. Bikes were great, but when we came back and ended up paying $5 just for lemonade, we knew that would be our final visit. Don't really recommend. Maybe come once just to say you did? Also if anyone wants the video of the bike mechanic yelling at us, hit me up, it is hilarious. OH ALSO, the bike mechanic kept yelling that he couldn't help us because his shift was ending "in five minutes." An hour later when we came back to return our bikes, he was still there. When he did close up the shop a half hour later, he just hung out with friends AT THE CAFE he was so desperate to leave an hour ago. That's why he couldn't help us, right? He had to leave? I was recently in Los Angeles to visit some friends, and we took a bike ride into Frogtown, where we stopped at Spoke. I very much liked this place. It was warm Saturday and the patio was full, with a vibrant eclectic crowd. We went into the very small ordering area and grabbed a couple of beers and ordered some food. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and a tasty IPA beer, and I was definitely not disappointed. The grilled cheese was one of the best I've ever had. On top of that it was very reasonably priced. The patio is shaded in parts, which is good in the summer heat. They also have a cool little bike shop on the premises to get things for your cycle if you need them. It is very smart, because if I were to guess, 90% of their business is from people cycling in. Since I took up cycling along the LA river, I have been going to this cafe to get a quick coffee break with my family. Last Saturday they were really busy and the breakfast burrito order was taking rather long. The email confirmation for the order had gone to my junk folder so I did not know when to go up to the counter to check as I was seated rather far away and could not hear the order called out. I went over once and asked the lady at the counter and she told me to come back after 25 mins and I sent my kid after 25 mins but it was still not ready. I think it took another 5-10 mins and my kid came back with an extra chocolate chip salted cookie and an apology from the lady for the delay. That was really sweet of them and I really appreciated the excellent customer service. I will stay a loyal fan of this place! read more
