I had dinner here last night; it was really delicious! Some of the best service I had, great broccoli rabe, chicken Marsala and the asparagus appetizer was out of this world...I was pleased. we had a good dining experience. called ahead that day for reservation and they were able to accomodate us easily. parking is tight around the area - look for meters that turn over - that's your best luck or go w/their valet parking. servers were attentive and helpful - they had a ton of specials - so many that we were amazed the waiter could remember it all and so many we forgot after a while what to order. they started us w/bruschetta which was quite tasty. for appetizers, we ordered the hot antipasti which was good - had mushrooms, stuffed clams, shrimp, eggplant rollatini. all tasty and sauce was yummy. and salad. for entrees, we tried their paperdelle (homemade pasta special) w/vodka sauce which was def their best dish. also had the veal w/prosciutto, cheese & shrimp (yes all in 1 dish), chicken parm, chicken cutlet (for the kids) and the flambee for dessert. the servers were great every step of the way, portioning and tending to all even the kids. very accomodating and attentive. we liked this much better than don peppes b/c of their wide selection, attentiveness and the fact that they take cc! highly recommend and honestly only came across this find b/c of the yelp reviews so thanks to the yelpers out there for making this rec! read more

I went here with my girlfriend, and overall I was very satisfied. I'm a picky eater, so my precise rating would be 3.8. This is a very typical and homely Italian restaurant. Not too fancy, yet very comfortable. Definitely worth a try at least once, especially if you are a local. If you are in Manhattan and have a larger group, I would recommend Carmine's over this, but this was very good food. Good and typical Italian waiters; they don't talk much about food recommendations and sorta wait for you to order AKA you gotta make your own decisions. Also, you have to ask for the bill otherwise they leave you alone, also typical in Europe. Their chicken parmigiana was very good. Fresh ingredients with a side of cooked spinach. The spinach was juicy but a bit plain and I would add some of the spinach to the chicken. My girlfriend ordered the Spolini pasta (not the exact dish title). The sauce they use is delicious. It's an orange vodka mushroom sauce with veggies and thinly sliced prosciutto. In fact, my girlfriend ordered some extra sauce to go, and they gave us enough to fill a large jar twice the size of typically-sized spaghetti sauce jars ($6 charge though). Good espresso. We had the chocolate mousse for dessert. Very good; a melt-in-your-mouth texture to it. Not the best I've ever had compared to some of the Manhattan Italian restaurants but definitely satisfying for the end of a nice meal. We came back her about a week later to try the banana flambe. Came with my family to celebrate my birthday. Reservations for 7:30 made a week in advance. Service was horrible. After 2 hours of waiting and no check ins from staff as to why, my sister in law and brother went to the bar to see whAt was going on. All k 12 of us wanted to just leave. I hate being ignored in a restaurant. Completely ignored!! Finally the food came out at rapid pace. Again - no check ins as to how the food came out. Went yesterday for Mother's Day. Party of 20. I eat here about 5-6 times a year. Never had any complaints here. Of course Mother's Day it was beyond packed. But anyone with a half of brain would not go out to eat on this day without alittle it of patience. So having said that, yes of course the food took a little longer than usual. I really wanted to like this place based on the other reviews but I was dissapointed.... twice. The food portions are huge and good for sharing, the zuchinni fritti was a very good appetizer which had me curious to see how good the main course was. I was very dissapointed.... the chicken francese that i ordered was nothing to wow me over any other neighborhood italian restaurant and was overpriced, my friend ordered a pasta dish with pink sauce which was bland and overly watery, as if they didnt drain the pasta enough before tossing it with the sauce, or not enough parm cheese to stick to the pasta and missing alot of salt. overall i will not come back here, its a nice atmosphere but the price to quality of food is just not justified when you can get the same mediocre italian food at any of the other places for half the price read more

So came here for dinner for a wedding party, place was pretty decent. It was a bit dead so not many people but we did have a reserved section. Let's talk about the food, the salad was a bit soggy, definitely wasn't fresh, but the rest of the food was really good. Had veil Parmesan and chicken and pasta, that was pretty good, on point. The staff has minimal interaction so can't review on customer service. The prices, I looked at the menu and it was pretty high for Italian. Tonight, Spolini's served me the best meal I've had in quite some time. This is not a place you come to if you want in and out service. This is an old school, family style Italian restaurant. Everyone that works here is actually Italian. The staff were friendly and very accommodating, the food was delicious (5 Star eggplant parm). All around a great dinner/night. I had to change my review just a little because I recently went back for actual dinner. Although the time before I went and had drinks and appetizers which were both very good and the service was excellent. This time when i went for dinner I didn't care for it too much. I asked the waiter what Penne Romano was (because it was a signature dish) I assumed it prob had some kind of Romano cheese in it. All the waiter said was "oh es con salchicha" I didn't like the fact that he told me in Spanish "oh that is made with sausage" He didn't give a good description of what the dish consisted of. What type of sauce? and why did he think it was OK to speak to me in Spanish and sort of brush it off as if I wouldn't want it? Anyway, I wasn't in the mood for sausage so i didn't bother to ask anymore about it. I wound up ordering the linguine with shrimp. It was basically Linguine (thin the way i like) with 4 sauteed shrimp in Marinara sauce. Their Marinara is just OK. Nothing great. The shrimp sort of had a funny taste. I didn't care for them at all. My friend ordered chicken parmigiana and her order didn't even come with pasta. It was one big chicken cutlet on plate with a lil sauce and cheese. I wound up giving her half of my pasta and she shared her chicken with me. My friend wanted dessert and she ordered strawberry flambe. Its kind of cool how they make it right in front of you with a little cart that hold all the ingredients and a portable gas burner. I didn't have any dessert but my friend said it was good. So I had to give it one less star because the actual food wasn't that great. I'm sure my friend might want to go back and if we do maybe I'll stick to the appetizers and drinks. read more

The food was okay. Nothing to rave about. The service however was terrible. My party was basically ignored by our waiter. Management was horrendous and after an extremely long wait to get menus at the table, our order taken, or our food, he did not do or even say anything to rectify the situation. In fact he seemed annoyed by our concerns. The bartender was sweet and at least apologetic. Unfortunately it was not enough for me to ever take my family back there. Other tables around us had similar issues. As someone who worked in the restaurant business I understand things happen, you get busy, you might be understaffed... but you should at least apologize and speak to the tables waiting. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the place because the outside doesn't look like much. The interior looks like a scene out of The Godfather. The food was very reasonably priced and bread was fantastic. The restaurant gives you the option of ordering single servings of the dishes or family size, we took home a family sized order of penne alla vodka and it was half a tray, for just $20. I come to Spolini's whenever I can!! It's my favorite Italian place in Queens. The food is definitely NOT the most AUTHENTIC Italian food (if that is what you're looking for, this place is not for you) but their food is still TO-DIE-FOR-GOOD. All the dishes are served family-style, meaning they are large and meant to be shared with a group. My favorite dinner there includes: The Spolini Salad The stuffed artichoke The Veal Spolini A Vegetable (I usually go for the zucchini fries) The more people you come with, the better, because then you can get a really large variety of their cuisine! The stuffed artichoke is incredible but the "Veal Spolini", a cotoletta alla milanese covered with a bruschetta-style blend of tomatoes and onions, is really the prize plum. Also, in the summertime they serve this delicious peach ice cream inside of an actual hollowed-out peach. Yum! read more

By the recommendation of a friend, I called Spolini's to order take-out today... Boy, do I regret that! If customer service is something you look for in a restaurant, don't even bother trying here. I ordered takeout and the gentleman on the other end of the phone was gruff and rude, but told me my order (Fettuccine Alfredo) would be ready in 5 minutes. How they expected to make decent pasta in five minutes, I do not know, but okay... Ten minutes later (I raced from my apartment) I showed up at the restaurant, only to be told by the manager that they hadn't started it and it would be ready in ten minutes. When I inquired as to why the man answering the phone had said it would be five minutes, over 10 minutes ago, he told me I could stay and wait or I could leave and he would eat it and then walked away. I decided to wait. Ten minutes later, my food was brought to me by the manager who said it was on the house for my wait (only reason theres a single star). They put it in the flimsiest of plastic bags (that ended up breaking on the way home and dripping alfredo sauce down Metropolitan Ave.) When I got home to taste my pasta, I realized that Spolini's definition of fettuccine alfredo is nothing more than noodles and unflavored, straight out of the box cream. Literally whole milk. It has no flavor, the noodles are overcooked and the bread meant to accompany it is stale and dry. I will never return to Spolinis, and I'm quite glad I didn't waste a dollar there today. Save your money for somewhere else. read more

Spolini's restaurant is a hidden gem in Kew Gardens. Between the ambience and food, it is really difficult not to enjoy yourself. The pricing is absolutely reasonable since the food is served as family style, which allows for the convenience of sharing (which is great to come with a group of friends and not having to worry about spending too much). If sharing is not your thing, they offer individual portions as well if it's just you and a loved one. You can really distinguish the homemade Italian food they offer and I appreciated the fact that all the food is fresh and made to order. They also recently added a party room that is beautifully decorated which I have had the opportunity to attend for a family event. The room is a great size for any kind of party you can imagine... Baptisms, Sweet 16s, Birthday parties.The catering is great; food is the same if not better than any other night at the restaurant and the wait staff are very attentive. I think the issue at hand is that many people have become so used to the chain generic restaurants (i.e. Olive Garden) that they don't know how to appreciate the value of a family owned restaurant where it doesn't take 5 minutes to receive your food. Went in with my boyfreind one monday night. We went in and I wanted to leave because the restaurant had a funny smell, but being me I feel bad walking out so we stayed. I ordered the fresh gnocchi with tomato sauce and chicken, the pasta was was good but the chicken yuk! no flavor, no salt no pepper. My boyfreind had seafood combo platter that came with a side of string breans. The seafood was ok but the string beans once again yuk. What really spoiled the experience was the loud men hanging out at the bar, who we guessed was the owner? Loud, loud and cursing !! Since we were the only people in the place we had good service, not outstanding but good, I'm guessing since the staff was hangging out by the bar. Spolini's is one of my favorite spots in the Tristate area. Never, have I had such consistently delicious old school Italian food (for example, try their homemade gnocchi made with ricotta cheese- much lighter than made with potato) along with fabulous steaks, chops and potatoes if that's what you're craving. Not a very fancy spot... But they are great at what they do. If you have a large Italian family that prefers classic dishes over modern then this is where you should come.
