Got lucky and they were open and had room! Ordered the fish special - king salmon and the spaghetti meatballs. Both were fantastic! I mean pop in your mouth fantastic! Truly on another level. What a lovely dinner. I had the meatballs and linguine and my wife had the King salmon. So good! So many flavors! We started the meal by splitting a goddess salad which was mind-blowing good! The real upside to this little hole-in-the-wall place is the service. Diego, our server, was so nice and responsive. We talked a lot with him and he's so genuine and caring. Let me start by saying, the food is really good. We started with the Bacon Mac & Cheese. Was good, but not ahh inspiring as was suggested. We also had the White Bean and Greens dip and chips. This was something to rave about. Was the best thing on the menu. A must. We then had entrees. I had the Linguini and Meat balls and my wife had the Salmon. They were fine. Not amazing, but was okay. The real flaws, for me, was the fact that we were given paper cups for water. We were also stunned that the only beverages offered were coffee, tea, and Le Croix. We were given permission to get alcohol or any beverages we wanted at the market across the street. I get the idea of the Bohemian vibe, was just not what I expected. The staff are very personable and friendly. I was just expecting more. Don't know how much more, just more. I hope you give them a try. Called To make a reservation 3 hours in advance and was lucky enoUgh to get in. We shared the curry tomato soup with so many flavors, chili oil , a nice modification of tomato bisque. Added the pEsto bread, which pairs perfectly with the soup. I believe there is a cost to the bread but it was so good we didn't mind. For entrees, we tried a short rib dish with carrot, asparagus, mashed potatoes and wine reduction sauce plus a type of croquette with chicken, Dutch oven cooked pork, basque sauSage, winter bean, collard or mustard greens a rich a flavorful dish. It reminded me of collard greens with pork. The highlight is the orange cranberry cake with frosting. Hats off to the amazing chef. Even though it's an hour round trip from Northstar, it was worth the drive given the other food choices in Truckee. - Pear mac and cheese: a hit once again - Walnut cakes: a great vegetarian option but very satisfying even for meat eaters! These had mushrooms and were super umami, and the pickled onions were a nice touch - Soup: asparagus and chayote - super velvety - Green goddess salad: I'm not usually one for dressing, but this one was super well balanced - Side of veggies: carrots and other root vegetables with a light parsley pesto - Meatball side: very flavorful, lots of cheese, great depth to the sauce flavor - Latina bowl: vegetarian this time - my mom loved it - Lamb shank: super fork tender, no gaminess - Chicken breast: as good as last time - Ribeye special: medium rare, loved the caramelized onion jus, served with a baked potato - Pineapple cake: a wonderful dessert special with cream cheese frosting. The cake was moist and reminded me of a pineapple upside down cake but with less syrup / sugar All dishes were on point and thoughtfully executed. I wish they had a Bay Area location. We dined at Spoon 2 nights in a row because once was not enough. We went with our kids and friends last night and sampled 5 items on the menu one better than the next. The vegetarian white bean and tofu was tasty, the chicken legs were great, the rice tabbouli was yummy and might I add, gluten free. So many vegetarian and vegan and gluten free options to satisfy a variety of diners without compromise. Tonight we had the chicken breast with red pepper sauce, fingerling potatoes and haricots vert. We both had this because it was moist, perfectly cooked and seasoned. BTW I'm told the cheesy bread is to die for but I'm gluten free... so sad for me. The desserts are all decadent and home made. Best food I've had in Tahoe! We tried the winter goddess salad, spoon latina bowl with spicy chicken thighs, and the linguini with handmade meatballs. The latina bowl is a little heavy, but not in a bad way. Maybe I should say hearty instead... beans and creamy sauce. The linguini was probably my favorite. Handmade beef meatballs add the perfect touch. Only doing takeout currently. Supposedly lot of outdoor seating in the summer, but really hard to see as it was dark outside and everything was covered with snow. Only saw ~6 parking spots but could be more that was under snow. Seems pretty popular, lot of people going in and out doing takeout. I would highly recommend if you are in the area. read more

The complete lack of a liquor license is atypical. The exquisite flavor profiles, especially in the context of the Lake Tahoe basin, are atypical. Food is amazing as always and our server was great, but boy was the chef in a mooood! Dined here Saturday night for our anniversary and with our children. As I always do when we dine here, I order 2 sides of pasta for my kids. It is listed as a side with roasted tomatoes and parmesan, which I ordered for one of my kids but I also ordered one with just butter for my other child. The first one arrived with sauce on side and parmesan on top, so I asked my server to confirm the butter-only plate would not have parmesan. She went to check as the plate had not been delivered, but then the chef accompanied her back to our table with the bowl of butter pasta with parmesan. Then she handed me a spoon and told me to scrape off the parmesan if I didn't want it. I was so shocked at this response! I explained that my daughter cannot eat cheese and the chef looked at the waitress to confront her so rudely in front of customers asking if she clarified "butter but with no parmesan" in the system when placing the order... She was making such a big deal over a small bowl of noodles and shaming the waitress in front of customers, when it was a simple miscommunication. I then asked if she was really refusing to make me a new butter-only dish, at which point she stormed off saying "I guess I'll have to throw this away." Then she passive aggressively wrote on my receipt "changed mind" next to the original order and up-charged me from $9 to $13 to remove the tomatoes and parmesan I suppose. Very passive aggressive and disappointing. We love coming to this restaurant, so this is a sad development. I am hoping she was just having a bad day! read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Cute homey restaurant with great food and service. Came here for dinner on a Friday evening and had a wonderful time. We started off with an appetizer of poblano mac and cheese--it had a nice rich cheese sauce with al dente macaroni, and wasn't at all spicy despite all the peppers. I had the seared ahi on brown rice tabbouleh with shaved curry fennel--very light but good. The hubby had the Vegan Latina bowl-garlic pan fried tofu over beans with spicy aioli sauce that had a surprising amount of heat--really delicious. Our friends had the steak and spaghetti and meatballs, which they enjoyed very much. They didn't have a lot of veg options but what they had sure was good! We shared two desserts: blueberry cheesecake and banana bread with bourbon caramel sauce--both wow. Their coffee is excellent and so is their service. Big portion and cozy vibe! We were camping out in Tahoe but didn't want to cook so we came over to this cute and little place. The wait was about an hour as we didn't have reservations. The staffs were very friendly and we got seated outdoor. We ordered the vegan bowl and the spaghetti meatball. The portion was surprisingly big! The ingredients were fresh too. However I can't say I liked the dishes very much. The meatballs tasted like homemade meatballs and it wasn't overly greasy. But it was definitely lacking a kick in the taste. Spaghetti was el dente too. Overall taste was comforting and not greasy, but it's lacking umami that I'd expect from restaurants. The vegan bowl tasted very acidic which is not pleasant in a hot dish. We appreciate their services and fresh ingredients but the taste would not attract us to come back again. read more

Comfort Food Indeed. When I went to Tahoe last week, this was the first dinner we had and I was pretty impressed. We ended up walking here since our AirBnb was a couple of blocks away but the parking is a little limited to street or a small parking lot across the street and around the corner. When I arrived I let the hostess know that I had a reservation and she sat us immediately. We sat outside and actually didn't have to worry about keeping our masks on since things have been so lax now. Does anyone still feel weird about it? Like having my mask off almost fills like I'm naked somehow. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy that I don't have to wear it nearly as much as we used to but it's a change that I had to adjust to when being in Tahoe. Our server(and the other workers) still had their masks on for safety so that was cool. This night I ordered the Jerk Chicken Legs. Ever since I has Jerk Ribs in Nassau, it's been an item that I will gravitate towards should I see it on a menu. It made choosing food really easy this night. I really liked the carrots too. The other veggies on the plate tasted fine but my favorites were the chicken itself snd the carrots. Everything tasted so fresh. Flavors is just pop in your mouth but without seeming over seasoned. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience at spoon. It is a little bit more on the healthier side but should you need some alcohol, Spoon does allow you to bring your own wine with no corkage fee I believe. They even said you can grab some from the store across the street which is cool. What's also cool is the vibe. Spoon is far away from the touristy side of Tahoe which can get a little overwhelming sometimes. It's very lax here and feels very homey; almost comforting if you will. read more

Have ordered multiple times (the menu is seasonal) and everything is always delicious, fresh, and reflects incredible thoughtfulness in the quality of presentation and flavor. It's a local gem and the owner is very friendly and accommodating. For our most recent visit we got the Salmon, Pork Chops, Mac&Cheese, and Mushroom Walnut Cakes + million dollar slice (a menu staple and absolute MUST try) and everything was amazing. They are only doing takeout for the winter/spring but the food presentation, quality, and portions are not compromised in any way (just check out the beautiful pictures)! They get quite busy on the weekends so would recommend calling ahead to get your order in; you can tell them a specific time you'd like to pick the food up. We arrived at the dinner hour and were seated at an outside table. It was chilly (50 degrees) and so we asked if we could be seated indoors. We were led to a table near the kitchen and noticed it was just as chilly inside as it was outside. The front and kitchen doors were wide open and were never closed during our stay. The dinner didn't get off to a great start as the waitress mentioned that the fish and shrimp options were not available as they had not placed their orders until too late with their suppliers.
