To begin with, the experience starts before you can get both feet in the door. Being new, Alexis greeted us as if we were new found cousins. Quaint, yet classy, with decor that reflects the warmth of the establishment as a whole. Very clean. Pimp had the Pork Chop dinner with cabbage and collard greens. I had the Catfish with greens and yams. All I can say is ...... who big maw back there putting the foots in them greens??? Everything was impeccable. The wait was ..... wellllll. It was well worth it. What amazed me more than the food was how nearly everyone who walked through that door was GREETED BY NAME. 30 minute drive from my home. We will be back.

This place is such a unique, comforting place to have deeply flavorful food…read more The staff is incredibly friendly, the music is on point and the food is seasoned to perfection. They even Have games to play. We decided to start with catfish nuggets while we played Uno. They were perfection. The seasoning was just right and they were not greasy or heavy at all. Next, we ordered the shrimp po boy , sampler with yams, collards, Mac, mashed potatoes and gravy and cornbread. Amazing. The collards are the best I've had and yams had the perfect spices. We splurged on bean pie for dessert. Do not pass this up. It's unexpected and creamy. We will put this spot on heavy rotation.

My Experience: Their fried food is cooked ahead and sits and dries out in the steamer. It appears over fried. Salmon patties, are an unusual offering for a carryout buffet, and one of my favorites, but inconsistent in size. I saw a photo from 2023/2024 store opening with nice and big patties. I have never received patties any where close to that size! Also, can be over done. Turkey chops are fair but size is inconsistent and on the dry side. You need the specialty gravy they provide. I just don't feel excited about the meats available. One day, I will creep outside of my comfort zone and try other meats. I read a review that the pot roast is tasty. Their sides are usually satisfying. I need to explore a couple more options. I would rate this establishment as average.

This was one of best dining experiences I've had all year- maybe ever!!…read more What made it so good? The staff was amazing, the food was delicious and the prices were outstanding for the overall experience. But the above and beyond came from one of their employees, Alicia, who was kind enough to offer to drive us back to our cars because it had started pouring rain! (We had parked several blocks away because town was busy because of the Milford sidewalk sale) That level of customer care is rare, and was much appreciated!

Chicken was perfection! The perfect amount of batter, chicken was so tender and juicy! I'm not a huge fan of gravy so getting it on the side was perfect for me. My mom got the bourbon maple salmon and the woman ate the whole thing!! She's a leftovers lover, so her finishing her plate is very unlike her!! My friend go the best dish, in my opinion. He got the walleye and fries!! It's HUGE, delicious and fresh!! The tartar sauce is also a hit, something I find is always a hit or miss at restaurants!! We were celebrating a birthday so got the peach cobbler. So yummy!! The only thing I'd change is instead of whipped cream serve with ice cream!! 10/10 would recommend!! Live music on Tuesdays is also a great add on!! Our 20 month old loved the music!

The fried catfish, yams, greens, fried chicken, dark maple hot wings and anything that hit the table was exceptionally tasty. With classic tastes like grandma used to make, but with that extra touch of love. Inside the dining area was super clean and upbeat. Gorgeous artwork and a speakeasy type vibe. Met chef Aisha and she was wonderfully sweet. So were Miss Lisa and Brandy. Huge shout out to brandy as she was the mixologist. That Mr Bowie was the best!

I wanted…read moreto try a restaurant that I had not been to and saw this one on FB and decided to do something different. I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant before. First, the restaurant is up two flights of steps and there is no elevator. I injured my knee and walked up the stairs. Second, when I was seated and shown the menu, I was shocked at the very limited options. They only offer white- meat chicken, no rice or plain sides. I was going to try the greens but the server said they put vinegar on them which I don't care for. The Brussels sprouts with corn is a hard pass. I had no other choice but ordered something that I would never put together as a meal: fried catfish, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts with corn. The fish was fried hard and needed seasoning and the sprouts were forgettable. They brought out hot sauce on the side assuming all people want hot/ spicy food. I wanted tartar sauce and they didn't have a traditional sauce- they had a " Cajun- style sauce." My friend had a crab cake for $25. When I called about parking, the hostess mentioned the cash lot behind the restaurant and.a parking structure across the street. She didn't mention that it was extremely expensive, I paid $24.49 for 1 hour and 6 minutes in the structure. Oh, I almost forgot that they added a 20% gratuity automatically for a party of 2! So, overall, my catfish dinner, 1 crab cake appetizer, and $2 up charge for the Brussels brought my bill to $74. Plus, the $24.49 for parking was a $100 night with no liquor only to have to leave and go eat elsewhere as what I wasted money on left me hungry and unsatisfied for sure.

Food: The food here is so good. I love the "pick two"…read morebecause it lets me live my best life without committing to just one thing. I always go chicken sandwich + Cajun pasta or gumbo. The salads are huge, but they are very onion forward, so just a heads up if onions aren't your thing. Shrimp comes piled on top of some dishes and you can add or remove it. Also worth noting, nothing is overly spicy, just solid flavor that doesn't knock you out. Service: The staff is genuinely kind and super accommodating. You can tell it's family owned. Everyone seems to care and wants you to enjoy your meal. Ambiance: The space is cute and Creole themed. It's cozy, casual. Easy 5 stars for me, this place is a gem and I'll keep coming back for sure.

The…read moreinterior has been remodeled and looks great, love the dark layout and the huge dining room, however the food remains touch and go. Certain dishes are great, others not. Got a huge bread basket that looked empty, when peering in, two small pieces of stale french bread smothered in Saran wrap were visible. Shame all that wasted space. C'mon Gumbo. Don't skimp on the bread. Serve it fresh too! During past dining experiences, the fried shrimp and hushpuppies were much larger. During this visit they were midget sized, like they were "cooking to a price point". That said, Gumbo's always excelled at frying and they tasted great. The fried catfish was dredged in cornmeal and flour. It tasted as good as catfish can taste, considering slimy-stank taste is natural to a bottom feeder and next to impossible to cook out. If you like catfish, gather up a chair, you're in the right place. The gumbo was watery with small dices of sausage and more midget shrimp. The broth had little taste. Mediocre gumbo is a misdemeanor violation. I wrote Gumbo's a ticket on that one. The cajun pasta was very good. In the old days they used bowtie pasta in a thick creamy sauce smacked with Cajun decadence and big ole' shrimps. Today they used penne (not a big deal, but it cheapens the dish) in a disappointly watery sauce with a few midget shrimp. It still tasted good but it quite clear at this point Gumbo's was cooking to a price point. The STAR OF THE SHOW was the shrimp crawfish etouffee. Wow! Thick, creamy, rich gravy with a heavenly base of toasted roux having notes of roasted peanut. They got that one right, midget shrimps and all. I want another bowl NOW! DIATRIBE ALERT: Service wasn't terrible but far from exceptional. The new generation of wait staff expects big tips for mediocre service, like we should should be honored by their presence. I always tip large despite my general grumpiness. Problem is, tipping culture has gotten out of hand. It's become a bottomless pit of greed. Front and back staff with their hands out perpetually. Cash registers programmed to induce tip guilt. Dirty looks for not tipping a carry-out order. CARRY-OUT RULES: If I don't sit down to eat, I ain't tipping your ass. Go back to Nursing School or something like that. Why should the customer pick up the slack for an industry refusing to pay employees a decent wage? SUMMARY: Love the vibe. Like the food. Gumbo's was clearly cooking to a price point. Midget shrimp? Sacriledge. New Orleans ain't like that.
