This is a coney. A diner. I sat in a booth, enjoyed the ambiance, and read a book while I waited for my food. Everyone around me was chit-chatting, which I found very pleasant. The staff was attentive and kept my coffee and my water filled. A+ for diner service. Also, they knew their regulars and greeted them as they came through the door. The food was perfect - two coneys and an order of fries. Fries were hot and well salted, and the coney sauce did the job. Onions and mustard were in just the right amount. I came in with my daughter and waited patiently to be acknowledged while three employees sat watching TV and talking. After waiting for a while, I finally said I was ready to order, and I was met with eye rolls like I was interrupting something instead of being a paying customer. I was actually in a rush, but I ended up sitting there waiting while employees focused more on a TV episode than taking my order. With three people working and only two customers in the restaurant, there was no reason for that level of inattentiveness. When I finally got my food, they asked whether I had paid already. Yes, I had paid. With barely anyone in the restaurant, it is frustrating that no one could keep track of that. On top of that, I was not given napkins, forks, silverware, or condiments and had to ask for everything, only to be looked at like I was asking for too much. The customer service was awful from start to finish. Management seriously needs to address the staff and their attitude toward customers because I will not be returning. read more

Came here for breakfast. Food was decent. Good pancakes but it all came out at weird times. I got my stack of pancakes, then 3 minutes later my husband got his, then 5 minutes later he got his eggs. He didn't get English muffin until he had completely finished his food. Also, I had to walk up to the counter to get a coffee refill. Would be 4 stars if the service was better. It's a solid coney type place. Food is decent across the board. No big wows. No real serious complaints. The inside is redone and nicely decorated. Clean. Staff is friendly enough. Dining in seems more accurate. On carry outs I have had issues with missing extras Ive paid for and on one occasion a missing main item. When I let them know they seemed pretty laissez Faire about it. Dine in is more attentive and friendly thank goodness. Breakfast is the standard coney fare. My husband likes their pancakes and bacon. He likes his bacon floppier and they understand what this means and always give him what he likes. I prefer omelets but like everywhere else in the area you can beg for crispy hash browns but you will not get them. I swear if I could find a breakfast place with actually consistently crisp potatoes I'd be a happy regular. The omelets themselves are decently good though. Good amount of fillings and nicely cooked. The coneys are nice enough as are the loose burgers and the fries always seem quite hot and fresh. The gyros are not the best I've had and the sandwiches are solid mediocre but it's not like its horrible here ever, just ok. Get some saganaki though and you'll be happy. They run special pricing which helps too, I love a deal. I just feel like I'm missing something. Like I'm ordering wrong somehow. I just want to find that dish that makes a restaurant a go to place. This was a Coney Island that is... fine. As Coney Islands go, I didn't find the coney dogs to be particularly note worthy. The fries that came with the combo were a little pale and soggy and oddly served in a bowl rather than something else. Others in our group got some breakfast food and sandwiches that seemed standard fare. Nothing was particularly stand out. It was a place to eat that I would return to if there wasn't anything else open. It wasn't too busy in the sit down area, but there was a steady flow of take out orders. The servers seemed a bit too chaotic. There was a little miscommunication between the servers and the cooks who were struggling to put out food in any kind of organization and the servers who were getting frustrated. It was not great at all. Also, we were a group of 6, but really there wasn't anywhere for us to sit. I mean - We could have sat at the largest table (a booth) tightly squeezed in like sardines, and it didn't seem like the restaurant was capable of extending the table to be any larger. The food was ok. The service was definitely not the best. In the dining room with 3 tables of guests, including us, it took a good 10 minutes before anyone even came over. When we finally got our food order in, my fiancé got his food quite a bit of time before my food was even put in the window. The server with an attitude asked across the restaurant if we needed anything I had to ask for my food sitting on the window. I would give this place a five, however when I brag about this place they always seem to mess up my food.. although I will never give up on them. I have been eating at this place for at least 10 years... it's usually a hit but when it's a miss it's a hard pass. Case in point today.. I order the philly wrap and it was soaked in grease to the point where it was soggy. I usually eat the same thing at this restaurant (tuna melt) but I figured since I'm fasting tomorrow I'd try something I always wanted to try (philly wrap) terrible choice. Good for take-out lunch. I got what is probably the messiest gyros sandwich I have ever gotten! But it was, nonetheless, good. It looked like the bread and the gyros were from Restaurant Depot, which is disappointing. I saw another photo that looked like the gyros was homemade and sliced. I am always looking for THAT. Hard to review something from food service ingredients. The club was made with perfect, crispy bacon and presented nicely in the box with pickles. If they increased the homemade factor of their food, I would be happy to review it again but places that put together their menu from stuff I could buy myself at a food service, it is hard to be very excited. read more

This is a very small and cozy, no-frills eatery where you can find basic fare to satisfy any size appetite. Our waitress took our order quickly and the kitchen had it ready in a jiff: a mushroom swiss burger and a bowl of lemon rice soup. Can't say much for the soup. I expected white fluffy rice swimming in a lemony, clear broth, but what I got was on the thick, kind of congealed side. I saw rice and tasted lemon, so can I complain? Yes, I can. Even if I ate almost all of it! So, don't order the soup, but the burger was fine, service was good and the price was right. Stop here when you're not craving anything in particular, but no one wants to cook dinner and you don't want franchised, fast food. And it you don't want to dine-in, call ahead and just stop by and pick up a carry-out order. read more

The waitress and carry out ladies were friendly and tried their best, but the cooks didn't take anything serious, I waited for an order of wings and fries for over 20 minutes and just seemed like the cooks didn't care whether or not people got their food in a timely manner, and obviously don't take any precautions towards Covid-19... I order takeout from Joe's quite often. I always get the coney special, since it's such a good deal & the conies are so good. I've also gotten the chicken tenders, the hamburger, and the california omelette, and have never been disappointed. The prices are great & the food is even better. read more

Joes has great coneys! If you're not downtown in the D, I recommend Joes. The snappy weiners (hahah I said weiner!), steamed buns, fresh onions and really flavorful chili rock!
