11/14/2021 Wow we stopped here on a Sunday during a Steelers game and it wasn't packed full of people. Plus their was a greeter who seated people. Yay my anxiety for finding seating here might be over. I had the meatzza which was definitely the winner. The wings didn't hit a home run. The Buffalo sauce was bland and the wings were covered in it, so the additional sauces provided couldn't help. The jam burger was good but someone was still hungry and ate some of my pizza. The pizza was very filling with the little pepperoni, sausage, and ham. I really like banana peppers and added them for an extra $2.50, ouch. The hand thrown dough and cooked in the wood fired oven though, deliciousness. The waitress was very attentive. The atmosphere was chill and not overly loud. The women's bathroom was clean. I moved to the area 6 years ago, and Spoonwood has been a staple - taking family when they visit, going after youth sporting events, etc. A year or two ago, they changed the menu and the portions, which was fine - completely understand the pinch - didn't affect my opinion. The last several times, the service has declined. We had a sporting event on a Sunday, ending at 7p. We called at 715p to ask when they served until, didn't want to come in late and be those people. Kitchen open until 9p. Arrived at 730, it was "seat yourself" time. We sat at 735-740. waited until 755, and no one even addressed us - and we walked out. I won't justify or rationalize spending the money to eat there anymore. Good when it's good, real bad when it's bad. read more

Spoonwood is a great spot for just about any outing. Great selection of beer and a nice variety of food options. The restaurant has a nice open layout with outdoor seating available in the nice months. We've been here a few times and always seem to have friendly and personable servers which makes a nice evening. I'd rate the place higher but I do feel the prices are a bit too high. read more

My friend took me here for brunch for my birthday and it was SO good. I've been here a few times prior but not in a few years. I got the breakfast sliders and one was as big as a regular breakfast sandwich. The sandwiches were on brioche bread so they basically melted in your mouth.I was going to eat just one and take the other one home but they were so good I ended up finishing both. I gothash browns for my side and they were also delicious. I'd love to come back here again for brunch! read more

I came to Spoonwood with my boyfriend and a couple of our friends for the first time over the weekend for dinner. They do not accept reservations and you cannot call ahead to put your name in. When we arrived the parking lot was completely full so we had to park in the overflow lot at Tutor Time which was not a problem, it is super close. The wait time was an hour but they allow you to get drinks at the bar while you wait and have an outdoor park that you can enjoy your drinks at so time flies. We were sat outside and it was a little chilly so they had heaters on, which was very nice. I ordered the EAT OLIVE YOUR VEGETABLES pizza and it was amazing! Seriously so good, the dough and everything. If you come here you need to order pizza. They have a big brick oven that they cook them in. I am not much of a beer drinker, so luckily they also had wines. I got the pinot noir and it was good. The server was very nice as well. read more

We came here because we knew it was a family friendly spot. From the moment we entered, the interior was bursting with life and big smiles. Since we were a bigger group we decided to eat outside. The staff were fantastic and they were quick to assist us with getting some heat lamps turned on. They took our orders promptly. The outdoor area was lovely. We were able to spread out, bring out coloring books for my nieces, and later on in the evening - we were even able to turn our phone speakers on and have a little dance party. If you're looking to catch up with friends and loved ones, and it's nice weather - I highly recommend coming to Spoonwood Brewing and enjoying their outdoor area. It was perfect for our group. The food and drinks were solid (we stuck to burgers, pizza, and mac and cheese) and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Also - don't forget to check out their ice-cream sandwich menu. Fun vibe, great food and wonderful service. Space is pretty big, with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as lots of bar seating. Only negative is that parking is limited. Lot was full the night we were there, but we parked at a business strip center down the street and walked over. We got a table in less than 15 minutes. Definitely would good again! read more

One of my favorite breweries in Pittsburgh! Not only do they have wonderful food and drinks, but they have a great space and atmosphere. The outside patio is so relaxing and perfect to enjoy a nice day with friends, plus the inside is very spacious too if the weather isn't good. They're always updating their beer menu, adding fun seasonal flavors that are delicious! I ordered the peach sour beer this time and I absolutely loved it. It's sweet from the peach puree, but not overpowering because the beer flavor balances it out. We went during Happy Hour so our drinks were half off, a wonderful surprise on a Saturday. The server even came around before end of Happy Hour to see if we wanted another drink at half price. I'm also a big fan of their wood fire pizza, all the different types I've had previously have been delicious! I ordered the Cluck Norris this time and really enjoyed it. The chicken was nicely crispy on the outside and tender inside, they piled on the mozzarella and provolone cheese and melted it to a gooey blend, bacon was chopped small to be within each bite, and the ranch dressing sauce was creamy and smooth. Even the crust was full of flavor and had a smokey aftertaste from the wood fire grill. Love coming here and never disappointed! There's a reason the parking lot is always packed. read more

The place is usually packed, have been there three times and have always had to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes. We have tried several different brews but not a fan of any. This place use to be a go to for us. Unfortunately the last few times the food was either not fully cooked (salmon severed raw) , cold shriveled pizza, or over cooked (hard boiled eggs for poached). Today our ribs were not even served as a rack and had an ungodly hot rub on them. No one would eat them because of the new rub being so awful. Been to Spoonwood several times since opening and generally thought it was hit or miss. Never "bad", but just a little inconsistent. Just stopped in a few days ago and it was really good. Outdoor seating was really nice even though it rained, they had huge umbrellas over tables and were setting up for live music. Pizzas (1sausage and 1 arugula and prosciutto) were fantastic. Mac and cheese with bacon crumble was really good. Seeing some of the other things coming out of the kitchen to other tables I wanted to try a lot more because it all looked great, but had my fill of pizza and good beer. Eager to get back. read more

This place never disappoints! We came in with a group of 8 on a Friday night. Got there around 5pm to take advantage of the $5 drafts on happy hour. Our server was polite, friendly, and quick! They started to get busy fast, but she had all of our orders in minutes after taking them and always was willing to take an order ("can I get another XYZ?") on the fly as she was moving from table to table in our area. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. The kids in the group were able to run around in the grassy area off to the side. I had the James the Brewer pizza.. it's my go-to. Always the perfect balance of buffalo chicken and pickle Someone else in the group ordered the "throwing heaters" and said it was great. The place was packed. I anticipated exceptional food. The menu looks interesting with so many good options. The service was good. They're hustling. But that's about where the goodness ended. Given the other reviews, I'm thinking we went on an off day. My sangria was awful. My husband tried it and described it as wine with grandma's perfume dumped into it. He's not wrong. It had an odd, musky flavor. My salad was fine. But it wasn't a $9 salad. It had arugula and some shaved fennel, some candied pecans and with a couple pieces of orange in a bowl. I ordered smoked pork shoulder, and it tasted like it had been cooked previously and reheated. It did not taste fresh. The smoked wings were rubbery and looked overcooked. The pizzas were okay, but I wouldn't ever order pizza there again. I did have a redeeming mule. That was decent. Obviously a lot of people like this place. There were tons of families dining when we were there. So they have to be doing something right. I'm just thinking today wasn't their day. read more

We stopped by Spoonwood for Sunday Brunch and we did not leave disappointed! The brunch menu had several different options including breakfast style food but also a burger if you wanted more lunch style. I got the smoked hot brown which I thought was going to be a sandwich but as you can see in the pictures - it was a hot skillet. The flavor was great and it was really tasty but it just wasn't what I expected. The country fried chicken and waffles were the best choice and a pretty large portion size. Lots of other patrons were getting breakfast pizzas that are cooked in their wood fired stone oven - YUM! I'll have to try that next time. Their beer menu was just fantastic! I loved the coffee blonde and the strawberry shortcake beer was just unlike anything I've had before. The atmosphere is casual and cute but practical. There is an outside fenced in grassy area that I thought was kind of like a dog park but much to my surprise, everyone had their kids out there running around! Overall, cute spot for just a beer or a beer and good food. Can't wait to go back on my next trip to Pittsburgh! read more

The beer is good but the food might be even better. If you're in the mood for some great BBQ, come here! I had the pulled pork nachos tonight and they mean it when they say "shareable". The order is huge and full of toppings & meat. Spoonwood has a classic bbq menu and sides as well as some amazing looking pizzas and other items like salads and sandwiches. I love the sampler pours to try a variety of beers, often new because don't I venture this far into the south hills too often. This place was AMAZING!!! From the service we were seated right away even though it was very busy. Our waitress was very attentive and cheerful. We made flights with the sample size pours which were amazing!! We ordered a PGH Salad and a Tomato Vodka Sauce Margarita Pizza which came out piping hot . The sauce was savory with a touch of sweet the crust was AMAZINGLY CRISP AND SOFT . The salad was amazingly fresh and crisp with a house made garlic ranch. I have two different ratings for this place, one for beer and one for food. Let me start by saying I LOVE Smoke and Oats. If you like smoked beers, this is one of the best. But, I have not been super impressed with their other beers. Their beers lack flavor for me and taste almost watered down. Not my style personally. I give their beers 3 out of 5 overall (smoke and oats is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there). Now for food, they get a 4 out of 5 from me. They have a great selection and if you like smoked meats, this is your place! I got a mezza platter and the lamb gyro and both were really solid. Also pro tip, dip the homemade kettle chips into the bbq sauces they have on the table..... yummmmmm. While the food is good, just be warned it is pricey. The service is good and the space has a cool vibe, especially in the summer. Overall, I give this place a 3.5 out of 5 but want to round up. With some pretty good pizza..... now, this place is an awesome restaurant and has awesome beer. I couldn't believe it when I stopped in this week, their menu had totally changed (for the best) tons of vegetarian options, fresh local meats, even a nice salmon dish. I was blown away! Our beer was great, and they have a ton to choose from. I was extremely happy with the food I ordered (salmon) it was probably some of the best salmon I've ever had. This place gets packed on the weekends, and there is even outside seating! (Band stage too, for weekends) No dogs are allowed on the patio right now but I heard that may change in the summer. read more
